E Port Plus serial port

$

Hi I have a Dell Latitude 3570 laptop running WIndows 7, plugged into an E-Port Plus dock. I need to use the serial port on the dock, but I can't find any instructions for how to access it. Does the port automatically get associated with a COM port, or do I have to do something manually? Device Manager says this regarding COM ports:

I assume it's COM1, because that port only shows up in Device Manager when the laptop is plugged into the dock. I can send data without errors to COM1 but it does not appear to come out the other end of the serial cable. Do I have to do anything to enable or configure the port? Thanks in advance!

Hi!

Vostro 3450 comes with Windows 7, on support pages drivers are only for Windows 8 and I know, that this machine does not support Windows 10. But I know from searching Google, that Windows 10 works fine on Vostro 3450. Have you got any tips I should know before installation? Thanks a lot! :)

Best regards,

Mateusz.

Dell Latitude E6400 thermal throttling?

$

Until recently the laptop worked fine, but now it experiences something that resembles thermal throttling.

Initially, everything is OK, but after 10-15 min of heavy use (and by heavy use I mean a 1080p youtube video), it starts to really chunk the responses. You would think is because is overheating, but the temps never gets really high.

[check attachment for higher resolution]

As you can see, the highest temp was presumably 77C, and the current one is 50C, while the On-Demand Clock Modulation is 50%, but it feels way worse. Once the ODCM kicks in it's very slow.

I'll give it a good clean inside and a new thermal compound this weekend, but I doubt that's the issue, it looks clean already.

Any thoughts on why is ODCM kicking in ?

Hi I've Alienware 15 2015 model with warranty extension. I've been facing issues with my wifi connectivity and Bluescreen, I've been contacting dell technical support india for sincea month for my problem, but they are not attending me properly. They give me software solutions which are not solving problem, instead they are making me go round and round in their vicious software update circle. I've been updated with all the software they suggest me , still my problem is not solved. And they are not attending my problem as well. This is very bad support I expected from Dell Alienware Department of India

Reset or Re-flashing BIOS Dell latitude E6230 - BIOS Corrupted will not POST

I am look for a last ditch help on fixing the BIOS/POST problem on a perfectly fine E6230

I was attempting to make a powered eSATA cable work when I enabled the SATA 4 and SATA 5 button in the BIOS.

After reboot... nothing..

I have been told it is a motherboard failure but this is too co-incidental!

I have tried a reset of the BIOS by disconnecting all power even the BIOS Coin battery .... nothing - no POST - although the LED shows that laptop is detecting lack of memory and HDD

A search shows that for INSPIRON laptops the BIOS can be unpacked and re-FLASHED to reset.

Does anyone know how to achieve this with the DELL Latitude Laptop or another way to reset the BIOS setting please?

Many thanks for any help or advice

I am having Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series i7 7th gen with 8GB ram, 2TB hard disk last month. But I found my laptop is working very slowly. If I open a Word or PDF it will take 10-15 seconds to load. Every application which I open has the same problem, (i:e) When the function is pressed it will take 5 seconds to pop up. Why is this happening? Can you give me a suggestion?

Slowness and CPU Issues with Latitude 7389 2 in 1

We have been having slowness with our latitude 7389s (more than 10 of them) The fan starts spinning really fast, underneath the laptop gets really hot and the CPU usage goes up to 80-90% (each time its a different process) and the computer gets really sluggish and unusable

We have the latest bios/drivers on those laptops. and Hardware diagnostics are not finding any issues.

Anyone else having the similar issue?

Thanks

Laptop shuts down

I recently "clean installed" Windows 10 Version 1709 on my 16 month old Dell Inspiron 3552 laptop.  After about 20 minutes of operation, it dies and reboots itself for no apparent reason. This particularly happens as I press the CTRL key, but not always. The Event Viewer tells me I experienced a critical kernel-power error 41.  There was no apparent power interruption, and besides, the battery is installed and healthy.

I have run SFC /scannow.

I checked drivers on the Dell support site and got an update to BIOS.

I ran all the Dell hardware diagnostics:  All OK.

I ran the Intel utility to check for any updates:  None available.

I swapped keyboards with a similar Dell laptop: Same issue.

I preformed a Windows RESET of windows 10:  Same issue.

Next steps?  Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thx,

XPS13 (9343, Early 2015) Wireless issues after Windows Creator Update (Build 1709)

Hi:

After upgrading my XPS13 to last Creator Update (Build 1709) I face a lot of wireless issues.

  • Many wireless networks availables do not show on the list of available networks even if are active and I can connect with other devices
  • takes a very long time to connect to wireless networks and shows the yellow triangle and need to try several times until it connects.
  • After sleeping or hibernating the laptop it does not connect to any wireless network. I need to restart and wait for quite a long time (over 5 minutes sometimes) until XPS13 connects again.
  • XPS13 easily disconnects from active wireless networks

Before updating to Windows Creator Update (Build 1709), XPS13 worked like a charm.

  • Already run Dell diagnosys and did not detect anythinh wrong.
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Dell Wireless 1560 802.11 ac

But still facing the wireless issues. It makes working with my XPS13 difficult.

So I would like to know:

  • How could I check what is wrong?
  • Could I uninstall the 1709?
  • if that was not possible: How could I do a fresh install (and do not loose the Windows Pro upgrade I bought some months ago)?

Many thanks!

Low FPS possibly because of charger?

$

I've got a Dell 15 Gaming 7000 laptop and have recently had massive FPS drops. Most notably in League of Legends, Paladins, and Injustice 2. In League, i used to have around 60 fps constantly. Paladins ran fine, and Injustice 2 beta had no problems with FPS.

Recently I bought a Targus Universal Laptop Charger because the wire on my old one that came with the laptop broke. The FPS drops started a bit after that. Now in League, I'm getting FPS drops frequently when doing anything, Paladins is having a lot of skipping audio noises, and Injustice 2 sometimes feels frame by frame (When doing the FPS test, it showed an average of 44 fps). Is it possibly because of the charger being slightly weaker?

Please Help! Dell 14 7000 fail to detect a particular monitor

I have an Asus VS238H-P monitor, a Dell 14 7000 laptop ( windows 10 with Intel HD 620 Graphics), and an HDMI cable.

When connecting through HDMI, the Dell laptop cannot detect the Asus monitor.

(I have tested the laptop/monitor with other monitor/computer and they both worked fine with other monitor/pc)

I have checked the drivers and everything is up to date...

So... do you guys have any idea of what could be wrong?

Vostro 1520 LED Screen Upgrade

$

I have a Dell Vostro 1520 that was a gift from my parents when I first started college.  I love this laptop, and I keep it around because it has sentimental value to me.  I know this is an obsolete laptop, but I am trying to upgrade it as much as possible.

My question is, are there any LED screens for other laptops, either in the Vostro series or elsewhere, that would be cross compatible (without the need for a lot of modification) with the 1520?

My current screen is a 15.4" 1280x800 matte LED.  I know that there is also a 1440x900 available.

Side note, if there are any other upgrades anyone is aware of that I could make, your input would also be appreciated.  I have upgraded the processor to an Intel Core2 T9800 (max the motherboard can handle, I think?), upgraded to 8 gb of ram, upgraded the bluetooth, replaced the fan, and put in an SSD.  I have an external graphics card for any tasks that the integrated one cannot handle.

Windows 10 Creator Update 1709 fails On my Dell XPS L501X laptop

At this point I fear I must surrender to Dell and Microsoft and give up (something I hate to do). I have spent many, many, many hours and attempted every suggestion I could find on the web to make the Windows 10 Creator Update 1709 upgrade work, I have contracted with Microsoft and with Dell to have them make it work and they both tell me the same thing, that my computer will NEVER be able to run the update because it was not designed to.

My 7 year old Dell XPS L501X laptop with an i5 Intel processor and 6 gig of memory has been made useless by the corporations that manage this computer’s ability to stay current and secure with the provided Windows 10 operating system. When I purchased this beast of a laptop I fully expected to have more than 10 years of useful computing from it but apparently the companies have different ideas. It may be a conspiracy, or just inept engineering and programming, I will never know.

I have been told by Dell that I should have never upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 as the computer was not supported by Dell on Windows 10 and the fact that Microsoft encouraged us to move to Windows 10 was not their problem.

I am curious if anyone else has a Dell XPS L501X and what their experiences have been. Please let me know if you have one and how it is going.

Dell Latitude E6430: Tapping on touchpad does not produce click

$

Hi all,

I'm running latest Windows 10 64bit on E6430. Few days before, tapping on the touchpad stopped working - no click is produced. Everything else is working perfectly. The driver is the latest one from Dell.

When I returned to an old driver which does not support multitouch, clicking works, but this way I miss the multitouch...

I guest that this has been broken with the latest Windows updates.

What should I do to get my touchpad fully functional?
