Broken wifi and Pro Support

Hello folks.

After much head scratching I have discovered that the wifi 6300 card by intel featuring tri band connectors is no longer supported by them and broken in windows 10 creators update.

The symptoms are identical on two laptops.

  • When attempting to connect to a netowork you are prompted for a password
  • Once entered it thinks for a while then says could not connect
  • Now it says there is no wifi networks found. Restarting the pc and they are seen again but only for the same problems to occur.

Intel have confirmed these tri band cards are 'end of life', which is somewhat frustrating as this was the last card made in the tri band configuration, there is no replacement.

I have inserted a wifi 7260 card which only has two antenna in one of the machines and sure enough I get wifi again, however the bluetooth then misbehaves, saying that dell bluetooth module could not load error 10.

This is all very frustrating:

  • Windows 10 offers the latest software and security updates is fast and much nicer to use than 8 and quicker than 7. Its inevitable that end users will upgrade.
  • Windows 10 forces updates on users, there is not really a way to stop them
  • I have two perfectly functional i5 and i7 laptops here which function as modern fast hardware in all other aspects
  • decisions by large corps means that one of the most important aspects, wireless connectivity is no longer supported and no longer works
  • There is no other option, no other hardware, so far as I can ascertain.
  • Apparently devices barely 5 years old are considered trash now presumably.

However I have pro support on one of these laptops until 2018. So whats the process here then? Does pro support cover operating systems that were not part of the original machine? I shall contact dell regarding this but really don't want a long conversation with someone who wont understand the issue.

Simply swapping the card out is not going to help. I wonder how pro support could help in this scenario?

Dell UEFI implementation does not support Linux Kernel EFISTUB boot ?

Hello,

I have a Dell XPS 15 9550 with a Windows/Arch Linux dual boot. I am able to boot Arch Linux using rEFInd but all my attempts to boot it using EFISTUB failed with a kernel panic.

According to this post, the issue is that kernel parameters are not passed by the UEFI implementation at all. Can someone confirm this? Does Dell intend to fix it?

Thanks!

Hi,

I received my Dock WD15 and AC Adapter 130W and install all driver available on Dell Support for my Precision 3520 with real serial tag and followed the recommandation here : en.community.dell.com/.../19985641

But, when i connected everything and trying to start for the Dock, i have this error message:

You have attached an undersized 95W power adapter to your system, which is less than the recommended 130W power adapter

After that, I choose F1 to start Windows (on laptop), and everything wokrs (LCD, mouse, keyboard and charing battery to full...)

And when i enter into the bios, i see 95W on AC Adapter, but i have a new 130W.

When i try starting from a 240W from my 3510 friend, it works fine.

How to stop laptop fans from getting too loud while gaming?

Hi!

I have a gaming laptop (dell xps 7567 with a 1050ti and i7 770hq) which occasionally I wish to play games on while staying quiet. Now to be clear, this is NOT a problem with fans constantly running, and NOT a problem with laptop overheating, the laptop works great in both those regards, but I'm just looking for software that would tell the laptop something like: "under-clock yourself as much as needed to keep the fan noise low". Any idea? Thanks!

So this laptop had a faulty hard drive back in October,  upgraded to a 240 GB SSD  when replacing said bad drive. Today my friend brought it back in, doesn't boot just goes to Dell SupportAssist  with "hard drive not installed" error. I pull the drive out and plug it into my desktop & run crystaldiskinfo on it....claims the drive is healthy, no issues. Put drive back into laptop- it booted into Windows ....I shut it down & made sure all connections were tight & put the bottom panel back on. I hit the power button & it went to Dell Support assist again "no drive installed" . The warranty run out in March of this year, 6 months later a hard drive failed, then less than 2 months later another problem.  I got on chat with Dell & they were NO help at all. I can replace anything in this laptop but I have no idea as to what has went bad....is the motherboard faulty on this thing?? Any help would be appreciated! TIA

I have an Inspiron 5720 laptop that I'd like to work off of 2 external monitors instead of the laptop screen. I've read posts that this can be done by using the HDMI and VGA connections, and then you need to disable the laptop screen. I've searched and cannot find a post with instructions on how to disable the laptop screen.

Boot up sequence failing before display on laptop

Hi, I have been using my XPS 15 L502X laptop for a few years and let my power problems get worse over time. After replacing a dead battery a year overdue, I've had startup issues get worse slowly over time. When I turn on my laptop, the buttons and keyboard light up but the boot sequence screen fails to show up 99% of the time. Instead the fan runs at a rapid pace and stays that way until powered down. The 1% of the time it does power on, everything works fine until it is powered off or hibernates. Standby is okay.

I suspect its an electrical problem in the pre-boot sequence but I can't pinpoint where. I tried replacing the monitor, manipulating the RAM, replacing the coin slot battery, and projecting to an alternate display. If possible, I'll try to run an ePSA if it turns on again. Any help would be appreciated.

Making Beep sound 4 times repeatedly, when I press power button and it wont Start

My laptop is Dell Inspiron 15 5547.

  • 4GB Memory
  • 1TB Hard Drive
  • Intel Core I7 (Dont know what generation).

It happens when i open the laptop and fix the wire problem in WLAN. So I detached the parts in order...

  1. Battery
  2. Hard Drive
  3. 2x 2GB Memory Card
  4. Fan
  5. Keyboard
  6. Monitor

The reason i detached the parts because the wire of WLAN runs thru the monitor and i cant get thru to fix it unless i remove the monitor. Now when i put all the parts back in the descending order, i just got a beep and i got no display it just blank, I listen very carefully and got 4 beeps fading. Can you help me? Don't know what to do.

Enabling bitlocker with Group Policy - startup script requires elevation

Hi,

I have  the  issue with Windows 1709 - 1703  - 1511  and Dell Computers (5580 5540) with tpm 2.0 UEFI BIOS, the same issue with tpm 1.2 on Latitude 5580

We try to update the bios and tpm but they d'ont resolve the problem

Since a long time, we use a startup script to enforce bitlocker encryption to all corporate computers (300)

we always get an error code 2147943714 (Converted 0×80070522 -> A required privilege is not held by the client) when wanting to add TPM protector.

It happens with WMI

$ProtectionState = Get-WmiObject -Namespace ROOT\CIMV2\Security\Microsoftvolumeencryption -Class Win32_encryptablevolume -Filter "DriveLetter = '$DriveLetter'"

$ProtectorKeyWithTPM = $protectionState.ProtectKeyWithTPM("ProtectWithTPM")

and Manage-bde

$p = Start-Process manage-bde -ArgumentList "-protectors -add C: -TPM" -wait -NoNewWindow -PassThru

The powershell script works when executed by local administrator.

For me,  the, localsystem account don't have necessary privilege to add TPM protector....

Could you explicitlly list all privileges needs to add TPM protector to be sure that localsystem account have them.

Sorry for my bad english

Thanks for your help.
