The difference between Longevity mode and desktop mode charging..

$

I have inspiron 5520. I find the two options longevity and desktop mode charging confusing.
The little did i know about is that it doesnt let ur battery to charge upto 100% to reduce the charging cycles, i have enabled them both, but the battery still charges upto 100% all the time.

So what good is it?

and is it alright to enable them both?

E6540 LCD Panel POOR refresh rate and edge distortion? Thoughts?

(Please visit the site to view this video)

I have attached a video that basically walks through the issue... I can't use screen recording software because that doesn't capture the issue. Let me repeat, SCREEN CAPTURE software does not record this issue. Nor do screenshots! Therefore, something is happening to the picture outside of the GPU/CPU. Furthermore, my external monitor on my port replicator DOES NOT result in the these symptoms. So the problem lies with the LCD panel.

Here is a description:

When any hard edge, horizontal or vertical, is moved in perpendicular to their planes (horizontal edge moved up and down, and vertical edge moved left and right), a bizarre pixel distortion is observed.

Any ideas what I should do?

I am already running the latest drivers, bios, windows updates, etc. It isn't a software issue.

XPS 12 screen doesnt rotate after upgrading to Windows 8.1+ plus other wobbles

Hello All

I took the plunge and updated to windows 8.1 on my XPS 12 last night, the first problem was the right click options missing from the desktop.
this was remedied by updating the drivers for the cypress touchpad. then I discovered no matter what I did the centrino wireless N 6235 card would not enable. so I removed this from the device manager and re-detected in windows this is currently stable however the Dell Support site recommends updating it, so I have downloaded the driver but when I try to install it I am told this cannot be installed on my system?

more annoying than anything is the auto-rotate function on my flip screen isnt working any more....

Any ideas?

Charging Modes: Desktop and Longevity

Hello! Can anybody give an intelligible explanation what Desktop and Longevity charging modes actually mean and how they work? I switched them both on in the Mobility Center (the button for which by the way still doesn't work with A16 BIOS and updated QuickSet), then pressed "Charge once to 100%"; after that the charging light stayed on through the night with the indicator showing "100% available, charging". This looked kind of suspicious to me, so I pulled the charger out. Somewhere in this forum I read about the desktop mode kicking in after the machine has been plugged in continuously for two weeks. Is that so? Anyway, the absence of any available information from the manufacturer is a bit disappointing. Thank you all.

Hello,
I am trying to fix this computer for my girlfriend, she recently got this computer from her older brother its specs are nice and everything but the problem is when the computer is closed it enters hibernation/sleep mode but it won't wake up. There is a fix for it when the computer is running on vista via hotfix but the computer is running on Win7 currently; is there anything I can do to fix this issue?

Battery Longevity (Desktop mode battery charge)

I have an Inspiron 15r  and I mainly have it plugged in while the battery is attached. I have enabled both Desktop and Longevity modes, does this matter? Could someone explain further these two modes? Is the battery already safe from plugging and unplugging from the power source when these two modes are enabled?

Dell Battery Longevity Mode on XPS 12

Hi guys, I recently purchased a Dell XPS 12 and am a big fan. It prompted me the other day though to enable longevity mode, because I am constantly switching between plugged in and battery. I figured "fair enough seems like a good idea", clicked enable and went back to my business. I'm noticing that over the next couple of days that I've had it, it keeps charging to 100%. Unless I'm wrong, longevity mode should prevent that, and charge it to only 90% or so, correct? I clocked the "Charge Battery to 100% One Time" the first time I did it, and it charged to 100%, and now the option is greyed out. Perhaps it has become stuck in this mode?

Wondering if anyone has come across this problem before (if it even is a problem), and if someone has a fix for it.

Here is a screenshot of my settings for it. Let me know if there is anymore information you need.

XPS 13 Battery Longevity & Desktop Mode.

I just got my xps 13 on march 9, 2013.  Today I received a battery warning:

Warning states:

Frequently connecting and disconnecting your computer to a power source without allowing it to fully discharge may reduce the longevity of your batter. Dell's Longevity mode will protect your battery by moderating the extent to which your battery will charge protecting your battery from frequent charge and discharge states.

I enabled the Longevity Mode as well as the desktop mode. Is there any conflict with either.

Should I ever click the option "Charge battery to 100% one time" under the Longevity Mode Tab.

These options are new to me, and I would like to take the best care to keep my battery long lasting.

I also have Dell Intelligent Display in Battery Mode and Dell Extended Battery Life enabled under the Battery Status Tab

Thank you

have upgraded/flashed the BIOS. Have purchased a brand new battery. Unit runs on the adapter and runs on the battery (now with 63% power as it came just today). Charger icon says battery is not charging. In BIOS under Battery...says....AC Adapter =Unknown.

I got this laptop from a friend so i don't know whether or not the AC adapter is correct or not.  here is the information on it:

PA-21

Dell P/N: XK850

Model Number:  DA65NS4-00

Reference Number:  ADP-65AH B

Input: 100-240V ~1.6A    50-60 Hz

OUtput: 19.5 V   3.34A

Made in China

CN-0xk850-48661-98A-2PNR-A02

DP/N: 0xk850

on boot up after power down adapter, remove battery, and F2...message says:  Please connect a Dell 65W AC Adapter.

I cannot find anything at Dell about this adapter so i am wondering if it is a counterfiet or just the wrong one.

thank you for any information you can provide at your earliest convenience

System Restore Disc

I am setting up a new i660. While viewing some programs, a window popped up and suggested that I make a recovery disk using either a CD or a USB stick. I decided to use a CD and was unsuccessful, maybe because the disc was not properly formatted, or something. Anyway I would like to do this, but I don't know where to go to bring up the recovery option again. Since I did not request it in the first place, I wonder whether it is a one shot deal, with no second chance. I remember something like that when I got my XP computer. Windows gave you one chance to copy to CD. If it did not work out, there was no second chance. It would be nice to have a recovery boot disc, just in case. Any comments? Thanks

Driver Update for Dell Inspiron 7520 Release Date?

$

Hi everyone. I'm the newcomer of this community, and this is the first time I post my question here. Hope someone will help me soon. Thanks at first!

My problem is:

I have bought my Dell Inspiron 7520 (normal version) for over a year. At first, it came with Linux Ubuntu preinstalled, and I did something to have a fresh installation of Windows 7 (Re-Formatted HDD, Re-Partitioned). I downloaded the drivers from Dell Support Center, installed on my Dell and it worked almost perfectly. Although there still some errors existed, but they're acceptable. However, few days ago, I decided to upgrade my laptop to the lastest version of Windows: 8.1. As usual, I downloaded drivers from Dell Support Center and installed, but then I realized that some big problems came:

1. Elantech TouchPad driver works, but the notification light does not function. It is always on. Therefore, I have to uninstall the driver for Windows 8.1 and install the one for Windows 8 instead. It works perfectly again, but the driver version doesn't satisfy me.

2. Dell QuickSet seems to have problem with Intel Bluetooth driver. Whenever I run the app, it comes with an error notification, which someones has asked in this forum. All I have done to solve this problems is to download and install the lastest Bluetooth driver from Intel Download Center.

3. Desktop mode battery charge works, (battery stops being charged at 91%), but the notification light doesn't. I think it's problem of BIOS. When I bought this laptop, my BIOS version is A02, then I updated to A09, everything still worked fine. Windows showed that at 91%, battery was still being charged, but the notification light automatically turned off (I believe this is the useful function of Desktop mode battery charge). However, when I updated my BIOS again to version A10, the notification light just turned off when battery was fully charged.

And my question is:

1. When will the newest version of drivers for Dell Inspiron 7520 be released out, including BIOS? I can't wait because I don't want to reinstall Windows 7 or 8 anymore.

2. How to enable the Longevity mode battery charge? I saw this was one option beside Desktop mode battery charge, but I couldn't make change to it, and it was removed when I installed Windows 8 and newer.

3. How to keep the drivers updated? I mean Dell should provide a live update application for all Dell products. My brother has an ASUS laptop, and when he installs ASUS Live Update application on it so that he will be notified when a new version of his drivers comes out.

P/s: When my father suggested me buying a laptop for studying, I chose Dell immediately because this manufacturer is famous for the stability and the durability of their products. I think that all drivers has to be tested carefully before being released out.

P/s 2: To all the users who has problem with Video drivers of this laptop.

Firstly, open Charm Bar, click on PC info, then Advanced System Settings, go to tab Hardware, and click on Device Installation Settings, choose No, let me ... and then choose Never ... OK.

Secondly, go to Device Manager (use Run command, type devmgmt.msc, then Enter), expand the display adapters, right-click on each driver and uninstall it (AMD first, then Intel HD). Restart Windows.

Thirdly, go to Intel Download Center, download the lastest driver for 3rd Gen Intel Core i, Intel HD 4000 (10.18.10.3345), install it, restart Windows.

Finally, go to Dell Support Center, download the driver for AMD Radeon HD 7670M/7730M for Windows 8.1 64bit (13.151.0), install it, restart Windows, and you are done.

P/s 3: I suggest not downloading driver for AMD from AMD Website (13-12_mobility_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe). Althought it works (can be installed, can recognized Intel HD 4000), but it takes much longer time to recognize Intel HD 4000 than the one from Dell Support Center because it has no modification of Dell.

Is it ok to keep my laptop plugged in all the time? How about leaving it plugged while it's off? Also what about leaving the AC power plugged to the power source without the laptop? Machine: Dell XPS 15z (L511z)

I've got an Inspiron 1525.  Whenever I open it, the display remains black until I push the Fn button, then it turns on like normal.

If I close the lid and re-open, it is again black until I push Fn again.

Whats up with this thing??

Dell Laptop XPS 3d l702x power button problem

Hi All,

I have a  power button problem with my Dell Laptop XPS  3d l702x and I do not know what is the problem, for it, Could anybody help me?

I tell you that the problem is the following:

First and when the XPS has its battery, I pressed the power button and the power button light start for a few seconds(but the keyboard light(no light) and I turn off the Laptop and  took out its battery and then I pressed the power light button and both(button light and the keyboard turn on) but the hard drive light turn off.

After that, I keep pressed the button light for a few times and the hard drive light start and the Windows System start again and I could work fine with my Laptop and then I tum off the machine.

The next day I turn on the Laptop and I had the same problem and I had to repeat the same steps for the machine start.

After that I ran the Dell system detect test  complete and it was successfully(hardware and software)

To be honest with you, I am confusing myself, I guess maybe the problem is the button power but I am not sure since that if the problem was other PC component the machine would not work after I got open the Windows operative system and the Laptop work fine, for it, Could you help me with that?

Thanks for your time

Best Regards

Alejandro
