Hi everyone. I'm the newcomer of this community, and this is the first time I post my question here. Hope someone will help me soon. Thanks at first!
My problem is:
I have bought my Dell Inspiron 7520 (normal version) for over a year. At first, it came with Linux Ubuntu preinstalled, and I did something to have a fresh installation of Windows 7 (Re-Formatted HDD, Re-Partitioned). I downloaded the drivers from Dell Support Center, installed on my Dell and it worked almost perfectly. Although there still some errors existed, but they're acceptable. However, few days ago, I decided to upgrade my laptop to the lastest version of Windows: 8.1. As usual, I downloaded drivers from Dell Support Center and installed, but then I realized that some big problems came:
1. Elantech TouchPad driver works, but the notification light does not function. It is always on. Therefore, I have to uninstall the driver for Windows 8.1 and install the one for Windows 8 instead. It works perfectly again, but the driver version doesn't satisfy me.
2. Dell QuickSet seems to have problem with Intel Bluetooth driver. Whenever I run the app, it comes with an error notification, which someones has asked in this forum. All I have done to solve this problems is to download and install the lastest Bluetooth driver from Intel Download Center.
3. Desktop mode battery charge works, (battery stops being charged at 91%), but the notification light doesn't. I think it's problem of BIOS. When I bought this laptop, my BIOS version is A02, then I updated to A09, everything still worked fine. Windows showed that at 91%, battery was still being charged, but the notification light automatically turned off (I believe this is the useful function of Desktop mode battery charge). However, when I updated my BIOS again to version A10, the notification light just turned off when battery was fully charged.
And my question is:
1. When will the newest version of drivers for Dell Inspiron 7520 be released out, including BIOS? I can't wait because I don't want to reinstall Windows 7 or 8 anymore.
2. How to enable the Longevity mode battery charge? I saw this was one option beside Desktop mode battery charge, but I couldn't make change to it, and it was removed when I installed Windows 8 and newer.
3. How to keep the drivers updated? I mean Dell should provide a live update application for all Dell products. My brother has an ASUS laptop, and when he installs ASUS Live Update application on it so that he will be notified when a new version of his drivers comes out.
P/s: When my father suggested me buying a laptop for studying, I chose Dell immediately because this manufacturer is famous for the stability and the durability of their products. I think that all drivers has to be tested carefully before being released out.
P/s 2: To all the users who has problem with Video drivers of this laptop.
Firstly, open Charm Bar, click on PC info, then Advanced System Settings, go to tab Hardware, and click on Device Installation Settings, choose No, let me ... and then choose Never ... OK.
Secondly, go to Device Manager (use Run command, type devmgmt.msc, then Enter), expand the display adapters, right-click on each driver and uninstall it (AMD first, then Intel HD). Restart Windows.
Thirdly, go to Intel Download Center, download the lastest driver for 3rd Gen Intel Core i, Intel HD 4000 (10.18.10.3345), install it, restart Windows.
Finally, go to Dell Support Center, download the driver for AMD Radeon HD 7670M/7730M for Windows 8.1 64bit (13.151.0), install it, restart Windows, and you are done.
P/s 3: I suggest not downloading driver for AMD from AMD Website (13-12_mobility_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe). Althought it works (can be installed, can recognized Intel HD 4000), but it takes much longer time to recognize Intel HD 4000 than the one from Dell Support Center because it has no modification of Dell.
