Black Screen when power on

$

I have a Dell XPS 15 L502X notebook. When I power on the computer doesn't jumped to the Dell startup screen but instead a black screen with the noise of the computer fan running at full power appeared. I have to power the computer on and off for 10 times before the dell start up screen showed and then windows started to show. Worst still, when windows start for a while before the desktop is loaded the screen went black again and I have to power it on and off for a few more times before it showed the windows launch startup repair or start windows normally screen after which I have to choose the start windows normally screen before I can start windows properly. According to Dell diagnostic all my hardware is working fine. I have also updated all my drivers to the latest version. What is happening?

XPS 15 9550 won't boot - power light turns on (white) no beep or light codes, no POST

Hello,

Was experiencing general issues with my windows profile after windows updates last patch Tuesday so I initiated a system restore and let it run today.  After completion laptop turned off (instead of rebooting?)

  1. Pressing the power button: Power button turns white (on) for ~30 seconds, then laptop turns off (indicated by power button light)
    1. no fans
    2. no screen (back-light or otherwise)
    3. no POST codes - beep codes or light codes.
    4. no other visible activity
  2. During that period nothing else happens, unless I press the power button again. If I do this
    1. The fans spin up momentarily
    2. The system then powers off (as indicated by the white power light)

I've tried:

  • Disconnect power/battery and hold power button (60 seconds)
  • Power system on with just battery
  • Power system on with just wall power
  • Remove mSATA HD and repeat the above
  • Disconnect video connector and repeat above
  • Remove mPCI WiFi module and repeat above
  • Completely disassemble and remove CMOS battery (tested at 3.1 VDC) for 60 seconds, reassemble and repeat above

All with no change in behavior

  • I am able to get a light code 2 Amber / 3 White if I remove the RAM module (as expected)
  • D + PWR diagnostics cycle successfully through a range of colors then nothing

Laptop is 2 months out of warranty.  Any help debugging the issue is appreciated!

XPS 15 9550 September 2016

Other notes:

  • UEFI Secure Boot was enabled
  • HD was bitlocker encrypted in Windows 10
  • HD is currently removed and has not changed behavior

Thanks so much!

Brand New Inspiron 15 3567 Issues

$

I bought a new Inspiron series 3000 15 3567 2 weeks ago (on 18/11/2017).

Official Dell web page link:

My issue here is, on 19/11/2017 I downloaded League of Legends, a not very demanding game.

First game, laptop goes on sleeping mode after 20 minutes. End game, laptop goes to sleep mode again, and that was like 10 minutes after first shut down.

Issue has been present every time I try to play.

I know it is not an overheating issue, because the laptop is never on my lap, nor on a cloth, or a flat surface, I have it ALWAYS on a cooling unit (heavy duty, 3 fans). Also. it is BRAND NEW.

Today (29/11/2017) Dell Tech Support told me:

1.- Inspiron 3567 Core i7, 8GB RAM, AMD Radeon R5 M430 2GB, is a "basic" laptop, and it won't let me play more than 20 minutes (all this via dell chat).

2.- Inspiron 3567 Core i7.... is not able to run ANY games, as it is not  "designed" for playing, and I should buy the Gaming series for ANY game. Also, that my GPU was fried/damaged because I tried to play. They "confirmed" that laptop is just for videos, word, powepoint, and that's it. (Via call to Tech Support).

I need help from the REAL PROS here. I think it might be an issue with the BIOS thinking 20°C is OVERHEAT.

Ohm and another thing, I switched from a REAL basic laptop: Acer Aspire E1 (Core i5 5th Gen, Intel HD Graphics 128MB, 4GB Ram) that I bought 3 YEARS AGO, and it never overheated even after 6-7 hours of playing.

Dell Latitude E6520 & E-Port Plus 2 - Display port issue

As mentioned in the title I have both pieces of hardware.  I also just purchased a third Dell U2414H LCD monitor.  I am trying to connect all 3 via display port.  However it seems that all I can do is 2 monitors?  When I try to daisychain them I got 2 monitors mirroring each other and one through HDMI off the laptop.

Is this a physical limitation of the replicator?  Is there a firmware update somewhere?

Not genuine message & now no boot device found

Help!  One of my youth has been using a Dell E6420 i5 8G CPU 2.60 GHz.  This computer was donated by a company in the USA where they were replacing their computers.  They handled wiping and reloading Win 7 Pro.  The computer has a Win 7 Pro product Key and had been working great since I received it in January 2017.  About 1 wk ago when the youth turned on the computer he got a message in the bottom right hand corner saying:

Windows 7
Build 7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine

He indicated that he could still use the computer to view study files, etc, however it was very slow.

I have the computer now to try to solve the issue.  Currently when I turn on the computer the message I get is:

PXE-E62: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent

No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine.

I have powered it off and when restarting it I pressed F8 to try to get into Safe Mode.  Regardless of whether I go into Safe Mode or Safe Mode with networking it loads a bunch of lines such as:

Loaded: \windowns\System32\drivers\.....   BUT then it stops and at the bottom it says:

Please wait...      and doesn't seem to do anything after this.

I don't know what is going on and what to do.  Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Janet

Hello everyone,

I am not big on computers and gadgets and that's why I need your help.

Recently I've bought a label writer and I have issues with installing it on my computer.

I know that the device works perfectly, because on my friends computer it works perfectly. But on mine it does not.

My computer is this one: Dell XPS 13 Touch (2016 Rose Gold Edition)

The device I'm using is this one: Dymo LabelWriter 450

If anyone could help me that would be great. The issue is that my computer won't even recognise the device when I plug it in.

Thanks,

DELL XPS 13 2017 model battery draining while laptop ASLEEP

My DELL XPS 13 2017 model battery getting drained for no reason while laptop is asleep. I have XPS 13 2017 model i7 16GB 512SSD.

Any solution to this problem?

I have updated all the drivers, firmwares, removed all wake up PC power options, and there's no wake up timer, this is depressing, and gravely disappointing.

I thought this laptop can last 7 hours with standard usage, but even sleep mode wouldn't last me 7 hours -_-

WIth bios version 1.5.1 installed you cannot restart windows 10 when a device is attached to USB-C port.

The computer will start with dell diagnostic screen and give error hardrive not installed. When you enter the bios, no harddisk is listed. Turn off/on device, no issues.  Only on a reboot.

When removing thunderbolt device (tried both TB16 docking and LAN adapter) no issues.

Went back to bios 1.4.0 issue solved.

W10 enterprise. Bitlocker active. Secureboot on. Sata mode AHCI. TB set to no security level. ThunderboltAdapter Boot Support disabled.

Also option "Enable Attempts legacy Boot" is grayed out and enabled. Cannot disable it.

WARNING: dell chrome book 11 3189 burning and smoke safety concern

Has this happened to anyone else- daughter put chrome book on charge fortunately she was still at the desk when she noticed smoke coming from one corner.

As you can see from the photo it looks like a component was burning inside melting the outer casing.

It's only two months old and when initially we called Dell they claimed it wasn't under warranty. Husband called again and they are sending a courier to collect it to fix it.

I called Dell today to raise my concerns as daughter's school advises all pupils to use the same model and I was concerned this could happen to someone else.

I was told there have been no other problems with this model - let's hope this is a one-off.

Had daughter not been there I dread to think what might have happened, just wanted to check no one else has experienced a similar problem.

Thanks

Screen Flickering / Flashing

Hardware / Software

Laptop: Inspiron 15 3555, AMD A8-7410, Radeon R5 2.20 GHz, RAM 6.00 GB (4.93 GB usable), Dell Specifications

Manufacturer's Warranty Status: Expired September 8, 2017

Operating System (OS): Windows 10, version 1709, build 16299.64, 64-bit OS

Issue

I keep experiencing my screen flickering / flashing with horizontal lines, the UI being distorted like broken glass, where the horizontal lines are the cracks. The lines tend to be a variety of colours, but are solid all the way across. They are often no wider than a few pixels each and the screen UI jumps around between the cracks. It starts and stops at irregular intervals.

This is pretty close to what it looks like, but instead of what seems like black lines in this video, my experience is a variety of colours: Dell Inspiron 15 laptop screen flickering.

I'll try and capture a screenshot or video next time it happens.

What I Have Tried

Ran a virus scan with Kaspersky just to rule it out

  • I still experienced screen flickering / flashing issue

Performed Inspiron 15 3555 Dell Diagnostics with the following categories selected. The all came back as "passed":

  1. Monitor/Notebook LCD
  2. Notebook LCD Lid
  3. Video card
  4. Bluescreen analyzer

  • I still experienced screen flickering / flashing issue

Updated the graphics driver

  • there was an updated driver
  • I still experienced screen flickering / flashing issue

Windows 10 update (was pushed to me recently, i.e. Microsoft's "forced install")

  • This is the version mentioned previously in the article (did not record previous version)
  • Have not experienced issue yet, but it's too early to tell whether this fixed it

What I Have Not Tried

Changing my screen resolution, refresh rate, power settings, etc.

  • These types of "fixes" are some that I've come across which I highly doubt is the issue

Checking display cable (condition / connection)

  • Comfortable with doing this, haven't yet as use this personal laptop for work

Replacing laptop display

  • Comfortable with doing this, but hoping there is a free fix I can do myself

Buenas a toda la comunidad, tengo un problema, hace un día en SO Windows 10 traté de restaurar mi lapto Dell Inspiron 5548 a la versión de fabricante y seguí los pasos tal como dice la página de Windows.

\Driver\WUDFRd failed and ASF2 force off

Hi,

So my first xps 13 had ASF2 force off issues so I returned it and wanted to give another try, hoping this time I'll be lucky enough to get a properly working unit this time. However,

Since 4 days my laptop reboot 3 times, ASF2 force off error in power logs every time. And The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ACPI\INT3400\2&daba3ff&0 error in event viewer. (Also attached. ) Also whenever this problem occurs, "The speed of processor 1 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 30 seconds since the last report." warning is also given afterwards.

edit: All of them happened while on battery

Help and suggestions are welcomed. I will send this unit back and stay away from dell If i can not solve this again.

Dell support showing wrong computer model

This is not a huge problem but is actually pretty annoying.

I am using a Vostro 5460 LAPTOP but the "support for Vostro 5460" page shows a picture of a desktop PC. When I check out the "Manuals & documents", for example, it turns out Dell Support identified the laptop as a "Dell Vostro 24 - 5460" (a desktop model I guess?).

For your information, the service tag and express service code shown in Dell Support is correct for my laptop. Not sure why it shows as a desktop. PLEASE FIX.

Dell Inspiron 5535, plugged in not charging.

. My Dell Inspiron 5535 is charging only up to 66% and stops.

. I now have Windows 10, upgraded from Win 8.1 over a year ago.  It had been correctly recharging until about a few weeks ago, when it charged to 86%, and then to 68%, and now 66%.

. I have tried:  removing AC cord, re-booting, also removing battery and reseating.  I have uninstalled the Microsoft AC adapter file and the ACPI file, and they reinstalled when i powered on again.  My cords all appear in good condition.

.  computer starts and operates successfullly without the battery.

.  I tried to update the drivers, but the response was the drivers available are current.

I am "assuming" the battery is bad, but purchasing a new one might not fix this problem.

Any ideas or help please?  Thanks.

Erasing HDD password via admin/bios password

$

Hi there,

I have a machine that was protected with a HDD password and, as any IT manager's nightmare, right after setting it the following first trial have failed to let us use the hard drive.

We also set the bios admin password (the one which is required to make changes in bios) and this one is working accordingly.

On the HDD password bios page you can read that you can use the admin/master password to remove the HDD password (supposedly without losing data), but I wasn't able to find how could that be done, can someone tell me how?

Best outcome: Use the admin password to disable HDD password.
Unacceptable but still possible solution: Erase the whole hard disk altogether with the password.

The system is a Dell Inspiron 7560 (S/Tag

<Service tag removed>

) and we have about 60 more machines to set BIOS/HDD passwords, any help is much appreciated.
