Driver issues with Latitude E5540

I have a Latitude E5540 with:

MS Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.
SupportAssist ver. 2.0.6875.668 (Agent ver. 2.1.1.28)
Dell Command Update v. 2.3.1

1) SupportAssist says that system is updated but Dell Command Update says that the following should be updated?:
a. Dell Digital Delivery Application
b. ST Microelectronics Free Fall Data Protection 4.10.67, A00
c. Dell Command Power Manager

I tried to install above from Dell Command Update - but update does not complete?

2) I cannot optimize my computer from SupportAssist (nothing happens when click on "Go to System optimization")?

3) Dell Command Power Manager v. 2.0.0 is installed but I see only the batteri level. I cannot install later version, is it because windows 64-bit?

4) I cannot join SupportAssist to My account at Dell-login (nothing happens when i click "Administrate my account")?

Service Tag Not Recognized/Found

When I enter my Alienware 15 R2 Service Tag # into "Find Parts by Service Tag", I get "No compatible products found for the requested service tag".

1. My warranty expired in May 2017, but that should be irrelevant to my Service Tag as it's embedded to the laptop...  or is Dell playing "Gotcha, you did not extend your warranty!"

2. I'm using the Dell parts-page as a reference and potential purchase option...  Meaning, if I find a better spec'd part (i.e looking at M.2 SSD and RAM upgrades) with a better price elsewhere, I'm gonna buy it elsewhere, not from Dell.

There is no clear-cut Customer Support agency/option to e-mail this issue/problem to, in order to get it resolved...  Or, is it tied to what I'm saying in #1?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

BIOS Version update problem E6420

Good Day;  I'm trying to update some 6 year old laptops with varying BIOS versions.  One has version A02.  The Dell support web site says I need to update to A05 before I can get to current, A24.  The oldest BIOS I can find is A07.  Is there a site I can go to and get A05 bios?

Thanks for your help.

2nd drive install issues with Dell 9550 (p56f001)

I was hoping someone could provide me with their experience when installing a 2nd hard drive on their laptop.

My laptop came with the NVMe SSD (256GB if that is relevant) and the smaller battery so that there was room for a 2.5" drive.

I am attempting to install a 2.5" SSD.  I have the cage, grommets, and interposer.  The interposer seemed to connect correctly but the SSD isn't being recognized.

I have verified that the SSD works fine (I put it in an external USB enclosure and tested it), so there is no issue there.

I feel like it is one of three issues:

  1. The interposer is bad (or not the correct one).
  2. There is a BIOS setting that needs to be changed (currently set to RAID On, as it was shipped.  Changing it prevents Windows from loading)
  3. There is an issue with the motherboard preventing it from working correctly.

I'm hoping or (2), but would be happy with (1), I just wish there was a way to test it.  There are several options available on Amazon that come with the interposer.  If anyone has a recommendation I'd be happy to take it.

Thanks in advance.

FPS drop and sound stuttering

HI,

I've been using my AW15 R3 for half a year now, it has always been perfect. It handles game like Fallout4, NBA 2k18 and PUBG smoothly. Yesterday, out of nowhere, I started to experience FPS drop in games (i.e. 60 drop to 30 for 2K18, and 70 to 15 for PUBG)that were accompanied with sound stuttering. It happened at various frequency and seems to be more likely when there was intense sound effects.I have tried to re-install audio card and video card drivers and it didn't work. I did just installed the AW BIOS 1.2.0 BIOS update. I tried revert back to 1.1.9, it did not work. I ran Dell's online diagnostics and all my hardware seem to be functioning properly. And all video and sound played online or any where that is not in game seem to be fine. Could you please help me solve this, with this kind of FPS drop happening every several seconds I can't play any game anymore.

Thanks!!!

Fan trouble

Hello all, just bought a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 a few weeks ago. Haven't noticed any problems until just now. It has to do with the fan. If my computer is plugged in, the fan starts up and runs on full, regardless of what I am doing. It sounds like it is running fine but should it be running on full when i'm using a word document? Funny thing is the fan stops completely when it is unplugged. Any suggestions? Is this normal? Thanks

Laptop Screen flickers green and pink

Hi. I own a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series laptop. It's out of warranty. Now the screen is flickering green and pink, even when I turn on the laptop (with the dell logo and everything). When I connect it to an external monitor (in this case, my TV via HDMI), there's nothing wrong with the images shown on the TV but my laptop screen still flickers green and pink. I've also tried removing the battery and putting it back in but to no avail. My graphics driver are up to date. Please advise on what the problem could be. If it's an lcd problem, how much does it usually cost to replace? THanks!

install chipset drivers on service tag 9ry0wm1, W7

I just installed a clean install of Windows 7 on my E6510. This version of windows came with service pack one, and service pack one shows as installed. I have 3 GB of RAM installed.

I am getting errors when trying to install the chipset. I tried to install all of the appropriate dell drivers for my E6510  in the Dell recommended order , but after bios A17 which went fine, I kept getting errors on the chipset drivers. Specifically, the error I get says “this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software.“

In order to perhaps overcome the chipset install errors, I am first doing all of the windows updates that I can.

Several of the windows updates are failing, but I am working through them piece by piece.

Is there any reason that the system would not support Windows 7 64-bit?

I did not get any errors when doing initial W7 install, but now I am starting to ask questions with all the problems I’m having.

Trackpad issue on XPS 13 9360 with Linux Mint

Since I got my XPS 13 9360, the trackpad is virtually impossible to use: the pointer jumps everywhere, the text gets selected (and even deleted), some programs quit suddenly because the "ghost" pointer clicked on the terminate cross, etc.

It has become impossible to use except in very dedicated usages (e.g., only using the keyboard without the trackpad)… or installing a separate mouse, which is really stupid for such a computer that could be used anywhere (e.g. on a train) and where the mouse becomes a real hassle. (And, come on, using a mouse is so 1990s.)

I tried numerous solutions, including creating file /etc/modprobe.d/xps13-9360.conf and adding blacklist psmouse (as mentioned here), but nothing seems to work.

I use Linux Mint, but the problem occurred as early as the fresh Ubuntu system I received; in fact, during the very first boot of the computer during the customization of Ubuntu, the pointer got crazy, which made me install rather Linux Mint (where the system unfortunately still shows up).

Note that I realized that the pointer gets crazy mostly when doing "drag and drop". It seems that standard moves and clicks will not produce the bug.

Exact Dell version is XPS 13 i7-8Go-256Go-Ubuntu

The system is Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya xfce.

Command uname -a gives 4.10.0-35-generic #39~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Sep 13 09:02:42 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Discrete Graphics in Latitude?

Can anyone tell me how to find (or provide a link) of Dell Inspiron models which have a dedicated GPU as well as an integrated one?

I currently have an Insprion 17 5000 series which has a 2gb GeForce 940M.

The company I work for requires the laptop I use to have a TPM,

So what I'm looking for is a dell laptop with boosted graphics and a TPM chip...

XPS 15 - Best setup approach

Getting the XPS 15 laptop and I was wondering if it is best to reinstall the OS or just go with the basic Dell load with the trialware?  I would like to ensure my machine doesn't have unnecessary "bloatware" but I also don't want to have to go through the hassle of putting on the OS and drivers if the base load isn't problematic?

I tried to get the sales rep to give me a clean machine like the Signature Edition of the laptop from Microsoft but they said it wasn't possible.  They said just to remove the apps if I wanted.

Thoughts?

Dell XPS M1330 doesn't work properly when battery is inside

hello all,

My dell XPS M1330 doesn't properly work when the battery is inside the computer. I don't know if the battery is faulty. When I remove the battery and turn it on with the adapter it works very fine. But when I try to turn on when the battery is inside and no power adapter then it won't even boot. When I plug the adapter in and the battery is inside it just freezes either during boot or after boots into Windows.

here is the battery I bought on eBay:

Battery charging, but when unplugged, laptop not working (Alienware 13 R2)

Hello,

problem with my Alienware R2 13 - I replaced motherboard (bought refurbished one from parts & people) and now the battery is not working. It is visible, charging (it took her almost 3 weeks to get her to 100%) but when i unplug the charger, laptop turns off automatically.

Bios is updated, battery health - performing normally, AC adapter 130W

I did the DELL test (when you press Fn while turning on laptop), battery health is 96%.

I also run the 60 sec test (powercfg will enable a trace for 60 seconds)..

ManufacturerCOMPAL
Serial Number41167
ChemistryLi-I
Long Term1
Sealed0
Design Capacity51680
Last Full Charge49719

So I really don't get where is the issue... is it the battery or my new board?

Unfortunately i don't have anyone with this kind of laptop to borrow his battery and do diagnosis.. :(

XPS 13 9360 Battery Life After Latest BIOS Release

$

Ever since upgrading the BIOS in my system to the latest 2.3.1, the battery life in my system has gone all to ***. I used to routinely get 8 to 10 hours use out of it, and now, if I'm lucky, I get two hours. Tech support has already done an on-site battery and system board replacement, to no avail. I can sit and watch the battery percentage drop in the ePSA screen. System demand supposedly around 2,000 mA, which should yield 30 hours of runtime with the 60 Wh (brand new) battery, but yet goes down to zero in just over two hours. System is also running hot, I notice. All this in the pre-boot diagnostics, so no OS load on the processor.

Anyone else seeing this issue? Last time I updated the BIOS before this was back in April, 2017, which really improved the battery performance.

Any suggestions?

Inspiron 15 5559 charger not charging battery (manufacturers charger being used)

When I plug the charger in the message on the battery icon on the bottom toolbar reads as "73%, plugged in, not charging". Obviously the laptop is recognising the charger (i.e "plugged in") but it is not allowing the battery to charge.

I have installed every update on the computer and I have recently searched for any outstanding BIOS updates. The system seems to suggest there is a BIOS update to be installed yet when I try to install it the system says that it cannot detect a charger, and won't complete the update, or it won't complete the update without a charger plugged in in the first place. It's a no-win situation. The computer and charger are only 14 months old so this is very unsatisfactory. When I remove the battery the computer operates on AC power only, so again the charger is working, it simply won't charge the battery and therefore once the battery runs down to 0, which it will eventually, I will be limited to using AC power only.

If I restart the laptop with the charger plugged in it diverts me to a warning page saying that the charger is not recognised and I am given the option to go to the BIOS setup, go to diagnostics or to continue. If I choose "continue" it simply returns me to this warning page every time so the only way to power up the laptop is to do so with the AC charger out, and to then plug it in once the system has started so that the battery doesn't drain completely.

Please help.
