Hi all,

I recently bought a personal dell laptop which came with a 130W charger.

Coincidentally, my work laptop is also a Dell, but uses a 65W charger.

As I planning to travel (and bringing both laptops), would there be any problems with me just bringing a 65W charger to charge both laptops?

I did get a Dell warning on my personal laptop when I used the 65W charger saying it detected that it is not plugged into a 130W charger and that charging may be slower.

I am fine with slower charging, but I want to ensure using a lower wattage charger will negatively affect my personal laptop long term because I used the wrong charger. Thank you for your insights

Hello,

 I have a dell xps 15 9560 and have had it since march. The last 2 months I have not been able to pair any bluetooth devices to computer. They show up in the add bluetooth device menu but when I click connect, it does not connect. I know it isn't my bluetooth headphones (bose QC 35) as I can connect them to other devices and have tried connecting other bluetooth devices to the computer and have had the same results. 

   What could be going wrong here and how can I fix it?

I have an XPS 9550. Over the past few months, my computer has been randomly overheating when turned off. There was a distinct burning smell and I was burnt touching the metal case. I contacted Dell support multiple times. They insisted it was a software issue. During this same time, my trackpad was slowly losing click functionality. 

Today my computer overheated AGAIN and my trackpad lost all clicking functionality. It also started popping out of the computer. Looking this up online, it seems that this is all related to a known safety and functionality issue with the battery for XPS 15 9550s. 

Calling support tonight they immediately agreed to fix the battery free of charge but insisted I give up my computer for 2 weeks. There is a known safety issue and I was not informed as a consumer... yet I still have to go without a computer for 2 weeks? Has anyone figured out a way to get it repaired without going without a laptop for 2 weeks?

My XPS 15 9550 laptop received a Dell update notification to install BIOS 1.5 about 3 days ago.  I did the update and it initially appeared to succeed.  Today I rebooted the laptop for the first time since updating, and it failed to restart.  It does not POST or show the BIOS screen.  The power light illuminates when pressed, and goes out when pressed again (after a short delay). The keyboard illumination comes on while the power button is lit. Other than that, there is no sign of life. If I power on with the 'D' key pressed, the screen does show the color-flashing LCD test.

The symptoms are exactly as described in this thread from May: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/20013272, exactly.  I did all the same diagnostic steps listed there, and got absolutely identical results at each step. The BIOS recovery proposed there also failed identically for me.

The final message in that thread seemed to state that it was a motherboard failure.  It's just too much of a stretch that my motherboard would fail in the exact same manner, immediately following a BIOS update (unless you classify a corrupt BIOS as a motherboard failure?).

What other steps can I take to clear and reload my BIOS, if the USB stick with BIOS_IMG.rcv and Ctrl-Esc-PowerPlug recovery method never succeeds?

When I bought a Dell XPS 13 9350 last year, I had the choice between a non-touch anti-glare FHD screen and a reflective QHD touchscreen. I wanted the touchscreen and I'm happy I did cause I use it alot when sitting with my laptop in a couch, however the reflective touchscreen is annoying when sitting near a window or lights inside in the evening.

Does anybody know if Dell (or a competitor) already have XPS models with an anti-glare touchscreen?

As far as applying an anti-glare screen protector, I read lots of negative reviews on Amazon. Difficult to apply without getting air under it, reduces screen sharpness and makes swiping on the touch screen less fluid as far as I read.

This afternoon I had a message popping out which basically tells me my about the battery failing and it needed to be plugged into the AC for it to turn on. I got so scared. I've checked many posts about battery life and it says batteries are consumables and can just be replaced but I've checked the Dell Store completely and they don't sell this model's battery? I've only just seen power banks for laptops! I'm not pretty sure. This is my first time handling this type of problem since this is my first laptop so I'm pretty shaken. 

I don't really have anything on here, just a few offline games, movies, and pictures. But I did always make sure I didn't overcharge it. I don't even know where the battery is located! 

Any help would be great!

Like the title suggests I'm having an issue where a large amount of my systems RAM is hardware reserved, making performance noticeably worse.

A quick google of the issue suggests some bios options which I simply can't see and unchecking a box in msconfig, something that was already done. All drivers + bios are up to date and windows is updated aswell as being freshly installed about 1 week ago, the issue turning up two night ago

The specs, if relevant, I'll include below

Dell XPS 15 9550

• i7 6700HQL
• 32GB DDR4 (2333Mhz iirc)
• GTX 960m 2gb
• iTB M.2 SSD (Liteon branded)
• 64bit windows 10

Dell Inspiron 15-3531 . It has A Intel celeron(R) CPU N2830 @ 2.16 GHz  2.16 GHz

I have been running an external monitor on my Inspiron 15-5577. Suddenly I get an error on the monitor "input not supported". It was working fine 24 hours ago. Now, after some updates, the laptop wont detect it as a second monitor?

I have dell inspiron 7520 which its original configuration have only 1 hdd and 1 dvd bay and have no m2 ssd bay on the mother so I decided to switch from the 1 tb hdd to an 2.5 inch ssd to accelerate my os and programs but i can not afford an 1 tb ssd so i decided to go for 240 gb ssd and keep my 1 tb hdd and install it in 2nd hdd cuddy in replacement to the dvd bay so by exploring bios settings i found these 3 choices in serial communications tab and i can not decide what would give the best performance and still be compatible and does not affect my computer reliability as I heard that some of these choice would not fit my configuration and my motherboard

Hi everyone. I'm trying to figure out whether or not trickle-charge is enabled in Custom mode in Dell Power Manager Lite; i.e. if a constant charge level is maintained as long as mains power is supplied, once the maximum charge level is reached? I have read the Power Manager documentation but could not find any info about this.

Hello everyone, is the Dell's Latitude 11-5175 micro SD card still limited to 128 GB or has the firmware been updated to accept larger memory sizes??? My 11-5175 is a Windows 10 device.

Hi All,
My dell laptop (Inspiron 15R N5110 - IntelCore i7-3670QM) purchased in 2012 (out-of-warranty) had some hard drive issue, few months back. I tried all the basic trouble shooting from my end, but no luck.

Issue : Switching on the laptop shows the Dell logo; post which it shows a blinking cursor gets displayed on the black screen. Windows wouldn't load up and cursor keeps on blinking.

Troubleshooting: Tried all the below troubleshooting; but no luck.
1. Removed all connected external components from the laptop (USB; Charger etc). Removed and Reinserted the battery. Tried switchin ON & OFF couple of times. No use.
2. Removed the battery and charger. Pressed the power button continously for 30 seconds or more. Connected to the battery or adapter (without battery). Tried swicting ON. No Use.
3. Pressed F2 and changed the BIOS settings to boot from HD. No use.
4. Pressed F12 and ran the Diagnostics. Basic Test was successful. Thorough Test revealed the following
Error Code 2000-0142
Validation 7501
Msg: Hard Drive 0 - S/N 12*******, self test unsuccessful. Status = 7
The given error code and message can be used by Dell Technical Support to help diagnose the problem.
5. Tried reinstalling Windows, using bootable USB recovery drive. This re-installed Windows, but had no luck when trying to login to the laptop. Still same issue.

Conclusion : After all these attempts, I believe my Hard Drive is corrupted and am planning to replace it.

Questions :
1. Is there anything that I am missing in my troubleshooting steps? Or Should I proceed further in buying the new hard drive?
2. I am planning to buy following hard drive (Western Digital 250GB 7200RPM SATA Drive - WD2500LPLX). My laptop came with 500GB 5400RPM SATA Drive (500, S2, 5.4, P11, 2.5, TSHBA-3A), originally. Anyone know any issues with this internal hard drive or would you recommend anything else?
3. What are the available OS that I can buy and install? My laptop came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1. Can I go for Windows 10 OS?

Okay, so, this requires a bit of backstory.

A couple months ago, I was just using my laptop, and bam.

Everything froze. I had to hard shut down and rebooted it to a screen that said: "hard drive not installed."

So after being on tech support, they came to the conclusion it needed a replacement. So I did that.

A month later, a few nights ago, same thing happens. I noticed strange beeping noises coming from the laptop a few hours before, and while working, it froze, I rebooted it, and same screen.

What I know is that something it frying my hard drive. I don't know the why, though. I plan on taking it back in tomorrow, to one again replace the hard drive, and hopefully find the source of the problem. But I don't even know where to begin on why. Any thoughts on why a brand new hard drive, used for barely a month would just commit suicide, out of the blue?

None of the front facing buttons (Rotate, Volume Down, Volume Up, Windows, P1, P2 and P3) are illuminated.  This makes using the tablet very difficult while driving at night (the tablet is mounted in my Jeep).

I cannot find in any of the Dell utilities where I can turn on and off the illumination of these buttons.  How do I do this?

Hi All,

I am trying to create a USB recovery media for my Dell laptop using my ServiceTag (Inspiron 15r N5110). I need this recovery media to reinstall and see if that helps with the laptop boot issue, that I am experiencing currently.

I am experiencing "No OS Images defined for the Product" error for the said Service Tag in Dell OS Recovery Tool.

Any idea on how do i get this resolved? Thanks.

I have a issue with the drivers causing some stuttering and some driver issues when it makes that errr sound...

and then computer crashes and reboots...to recovery screen..however when I used "who crash" utility...i find one day a log file relating ATI error issues..and today no dump files on my PC after the incident...I manually re-installed the dell drivers again and so far no issue....

I also would like to know since i bought this dell gaming machine..is there going to be constant updates for it..?especially drivers and features for the radeon graphics and gpu discrete. like "Hybrid crossfire"and the like.????

Lately I've been having trouble with my Inspiron i7567 laptop. At first, the screen would freeze during boot up on the Dell logo screen. It has now evolved to a complete failure in which the screen turns to a light blue with purple and green pinstripes. This happens almost every time I boot it and anytime I close the laptop or wake it from sleep mode. Any ideas what's going on? Or possible solutions? Thanks.
