For the Dell Latitude E5430 there are two BIOS choices.

I don't know which one to choose.

They show up even though I entered the Service Tag number for my laptop.

7359 2-in-1 Touchpad woes

The touchpad buttons on my 7359 have been getting worse and worse to properly press.  System is out of warranty.  Anyone have any success in getting the buttons to operate consistently?  Mine usually either fail to register or repeat constantly when the button is pressed down.  For selection it's not a big deal since I can just double tap, but dragging is almost impossible in the present state.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 laptop which is about 6 months old.  In using MS Office, I can't seem to use the normal control-home and control-end to go to the beginning and end of an Excel spreadsheet respectively.  Those entries merely shift a couple of cells left or right.  Can anybody suggest what I'm doing wrong?

WD15 Dock not outputing video signal

Hardware being used:
- WD15 USB-C docking station
- Latitude 7280 or Latitude 7480

Issue:
When laptop is connected to the WD15 docking station, it will consistently not output video to an external monitor. It's trying to simulate end user's taking their laptop to a meeting and coming back and docking back up with the lid closed. Our laptops are configured to "Do Nothing" when the lid is closed. I've reduced this down to just a laptop, docking station and a monitor connected either by VGA or Mini-DP or HDMI. When attempting to dock, it does not consistently output video to the external monitor. Sometimes I'll have to disconnect/reconnect the docking cable multiple times before video will output on the external monitor.

And thrown in the mix is sometimes it will kill ALL USB ports on the docking and on the laptop. The only way to restore USB port functionality is to shutdown the laptop and turn it back on again. We experienced this USB issue 6 months ago and found it was due to a bad Realtek USB 2.0 driver for the docking station. Installing an older version of that driver fixed the issue at that time. Since it's resurfaced with this, we've tried the driver fix, and it no longer resolves it.

I've tried reaching out to Dell support, but their only solution is to keep replacing the WD15 docks, but it doesnt resolve anything as issue occurs on replacement docks they send. This happens on multiple of our 7280 & 7480 laptops that have been deployed to users. With all the troubleshooting I've done, my team and I feel that this HAS To be on an hardware level that Dell is not coming forward about.

Here are ALL the troubleshooting steps I've performed, ALL of which have failed.
- Update BIOS
- Update WD15 Dock Firmware
- Update ALL Dell Drivers via Dell Command Update
- In BIOS \ Dell Type-C Dock Configuration, Enabled "Always Allow Dell Docks"
- Reverted "Realtek USB 2.0 Audio" driver back to 6.3.9600.50 which previously resolved USB issue 6 months ago
- Tried with single monitor connected directly to VGA
- Tried with single monitor connected directly to Mini-DP
- Tried with single monitor connected directly to HDMI
- Swapped w/known good monitor
- Changed Power Scheme to "High Performance" in Power Options
- Changed "USB Selective Suspend Setting" to disabled in Power Options
- Adjusted resolution (higher & lower settings)
- Adjusted monitor frequency (60Hz & 48 Hz)
- Swapped w/known good docking station
- Tried w/replacement docking station from Dell
- Reimaged w/non-altered Windows 10 w/base drivers
***This image was downloaded direct from Microsoft to eliminate our custom Company OS image
- Downloaded Intel 650 Graphics Driver from Intel site

Anyone have any other Troubleshooting steps I've overlooked???
Dell Forum Techs, I'd LOVE to hear your input regarding this issue.

E6510 issues: keyboard backlight, HD, Bios update

For anyone having trouble sleeping, this ones for you.  Several weeks ago the keyboard backlight function on my Latitude E6510 (it's a recond unit from Dell Direct w/Core i3 M370, 4 GB RAM, running Win7 Pro/32-bit) stopped working. I've had the unit for over 3 years.

Anyway, when the backlight stopped working I ran a diagnostic that produced a "warning" about the HD's imminent failure.  Not sure that was related to the keyboard issue, but taking it to heart I replaced the HDD with a SSD (cloning the HDD to the SSD).  When that didn't resolve the issue, I posted to the Forum and someone suggested doing a clean install of Win7 Pro, which I did.

A "new" problem has arisen where I cannot seem to be able to flash the bios from its current A05.  I'm just trying to get to A09 now, and it won't work.  I tried it in Windows, where I get the "BIOS Update Program" message about keeping the AC adapter connected, etc, and then when I click on "OK" I get a popup window saying "E6510A09.EXE has stopped working."  The popup window includes an option to "Check online for a solution and close the program."  When I click on that it appears to be searching for solution for about 10 seconds, and the the popup window just disappears.

I also tried loading DOS boot files onto a USB thumb drive, along with the executable BIOS update file, but that would not work either.  I'd get to the point where the popup window about making sure the battery and the AC are connected, but when I hit "Enter" to proceed nothing happens.

I've read about laptops not being able to update the BIOS if the battery's in poor condition.  I know the battery will have to be replaced eventually, but I'm concerned about dumping any more $$ into this "old but reliable" E6510.  I was just hoping to get my keyboard backlight back.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Inspiron 15 5559 No power, no LED's

Hello All,

I am trying to fix my partners Dell Inspiron 15 5559, 3 days ago she went to turn it on and it was non responsive. She looks after her laptop with extreme care, the has been no drops or spillages, or anything else.

When trying to turn on the laptop the is no response. When plugged in to the AC adapter the is no LED lighting up on the laptop either,
Have tried removing the battery, holding the power button for 3 minutes, reinserting the battery but no progress.
The AC adapter "block" (not sure correct term) does have a green light lit up on it, so I know that is getting power.

Does this model of laptop boot without a battery present normally (trying to rule out if it is a duff battery or not)?
Is the any other steps I should take before slowly taking it apart & seeing if the is a component short?
Lastly as the model is out of warranty, I assume that it would be cheaper to source a replacement part than send to dell for a repair (if it is a part fault)?

N.B. is the a known issue with dell laptops not powering up or is it just bad luck?

Thank you for your time.

On an unrelated note the recaptcha for making this post does not display properly in firefox latest version, had to switch to chrome to post here. Not sure if anyone is aware,

My E5410 is flashing the battery light.  4 orange then 1 blue is the sequence.  I have purchased a new battery and the problem persists.  I have also tried a new AC charger and the problem persists.

Updated BIOS per other online recommendations and still the problem remains.  Is there a fix for this?

Thank You Dell....

I've got to say a big thank you Dell, for not having a whitelist of wifi network cards.

I Inherited an old Dell Inspiron 15 N5050 from my mother when i gave her my old Home Built 3rd Gen i5 desktop, when i built a new Asus ROG 7th gen i7 desktop for myself recently, not being much of a laptop guy, but a build it yourself desktop guy. (dying breed?)

Though I had already added more RAM (Stock 4GB to 8GB) and an 250GB SSD (stock 500GB HDD) a while ago for my mom to use in the laptop for better performance.

But after i got it was tired of the slower wireless N speeds, did some research and found out that, unlike HP and Lenovo and who knows who else only allows certain certified wifi adapters to be placed in the unit. Knew that from work, working with laptop repairs.

Picked up an Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260, popped it in, and both bluetooth and wifi work like a charm, 866 Mbps, that is not bad at all. a huge boost from the old stock Qualcomm N that was in there.

Now if the Sandy Bridge Integrated graphics in the second gen i3 was actually fully compatible with Windows 10, that would have been great. but i'm content with using the generic accelerated Microsoft provides. HD videos still play smooth, and now will play smoother over my network with the new wifi card. I'm guessing that's the reason Dell does not officially support Windows 10 on the N5050.

Thanks Dell, if i ever need to buy a new laptop, id be looking or recommending to others a Dell.
