Has anyone with an xps 13 2-in-1 ever tried to use the connect app of microsoft to cast some content from another device to this machine?
Mine says "This device doesn't support receiving Miracast..."
Anyone an idea how to solve it or circumvent this problem with software? almost any old PC is capable of receiving Miracast, why not this new machine?

We have an Inspiron 7586 2-in-1. the hard drive failed and I installed a 160GB Intel SSD with a sysprepped image on it that we use for most laptop and desktop installs. I reset the bios to load legacy hardware as usual and for the first time the image fails to boot and I get the an error saying the drive needs to be repaired. I image a second SSD, this time a Samsung 120GB - same result, I get the windows with the circle of balls going around, I even do a reboot that's when the error stating I need to repair the drive appears.
I try to boot the laptop from a windows 10 install flash drive to repair the OS install and it blue screens with an error : Memory Management.
I swap out the memory module for a known good one and try the flash drive boot again - same error.
I attach an external DVD/RW and put my windows 10 install DVD in it - same error.
I take the drive out of a Latitude E5540 and clone it, but the clone will not boot until I run BOOTREC /Rebuildbcd, but again I cannot get the install DVD or Flash drive to not blue screen.
Since the original drive is toast, I cant seem to find a way to boot this laptop, neither the set-up image nor the install dvd/flash drive will boot.
Any ideas?
I did successfully install Ubuntu 16.04 LTS FWIW, but I need Windows 10 on this Laptop.
Hi all, I recently purchased a Inspiron 17 - 7773 2in1 laptop. I got the one with 512gb SSD drive. I assumed it was coming with a M2 PCIe drive, as the model below comes with 256gb SSD and 1tb drive, and I believe the unit only fits one SATA 2.5 drive, and one M2 PCIe drive. But when checking the BIOS, its a 512gb SSD drive 2.5 SATA. So the m2 PCIE slot isn't being used.
My question is, when I need more storage, will I just be able to get a m2 drive, and install and use as a secondary? I'm not too knoweldgabe on this, so any help would be appreciated. I dont want to open the unit to look. Thanks.
I absolutely loath "tap to click". Before I installed SSD, I was able to find a setting to turn it off. After installing SSD and then clean install of Windows 10, I can no longer find the option. Dell drive page has no "touchpad driver".... There must be some way... :(

My keyboard is plugged into an external monitor in the day, so I'd like to fold the screen away. But when I fold the screen back it says "Touchpad has been disabled"... this is not helpful as it disables the keyboard, I want the keyboard to work!! How do I stop this happening? Thanks
I have a one year old (but rarely used) XPS 15 9550 (it is a spare that lives in the office in case anyone needs one). Well I needed it today but can't make it work. It was last used a couple of weeks ago.
When I press the power button, the power light comes on but nothing else happens. If I wait about a minute fifteen seconds the power light goes off.
If I press a key while the power light is on, then the keyboard backlight comes on.
Other than that absolutely nothing - the screen remains black and I hear no sounds.
If I press the power key, release it and then hold the power key down for a couple of seconds, I hear the fan come on then about 2 seconds later the fan stops and the power light goes off.

I was using on my laptop this morning and for the first time I noticed what looks like a burned in rectangular blob on the screen. I have never encountered a screen issue before on a laptop though and so I don't really know what to make of this or what to do. The laptop has never gotten wet or come into contact with water, and I don't know really know how the screen issue occurred, or if I'm just missing something obvious.
Hopefully others can see what I am talking about from the photo posted below. I went over the screen with a microfiber clothe to see if was just dirty, but nothing changed.
Any help regarding the issue or any insights would be much appreciated.

This is by far the worst experience with computers I have had. I work in IT section and I have quite decent knowledge of hardware and software but this problem has had me thinking if I am stupid or dont have no knowledge.
My problem is that i have brand new Dell Inspiron 7567 4K edition.
i7-7700HQ(HD 630), GTX 1050Ti, 8GB DDR4, SSD 128 and 1TB HDD, Windows 10.
* Thing is that when I browse web(chrome, opera, IE, Edge) the scrolling is laggy/choppy.
* Moving explorer windows fast.
* Scroll in Spotify for example.
* Right click menu for example on desktop takes second or two to show up without the usual animation. Just pops up with delay.
The list goes on and on...
Playing games so far is fine. I get what I expected for this money and graphics chip (GTX 1050Ti).
My problem here is that all the drivers from dell and even from Intel wont fix the problem when im using the native 4K resolution on desktop... which is weird because the google is full of these kind of problems that people are having with the same exact model (7567 4K edition).
Is there a Dell representative here that could tell me what can I do because clearly it does not seem to be a hardware issue. How long do I have to wait for new drivers to come out which could fix the problem here?
When I change the resolution to 1080p ... its fine. Scrolling and moving windows are butter smooth but the 4K resolution is god awful.
I think Dell would have tested their laptop before the released it to the public and retailers.
Please Dell help me because I have had this laptop for 2 weeks and nothing has changed after endless testing new drivers and settings.
I have changed from Dell drivers to Intel own drivers, nothing... I have no CPU overheating or throttling... battery settings is set to high performance... i disabled the indexing for SSD... disabled search service aswell...

I would appreciate any suggestions regarding the possibility to upgrade my wireless card (Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030) to a faster device.
I have a DELL laptop (Model # PO9E) 17.3" laptop.
My problem is, that it seems this wireless card does not see or connect to my 5G wireless signals, and I am only getting the 2.4G wireless signal.
If possible, can this change be done by me, as when I have upgraded RAM before?
Any suggestions appreciated.

There is a difference between the two kinds of service
centres: Company's own service centres don't think about
profits regarding service, as it is about their brand
value. Authorised service centres always are into profits,
they don't care about the brand's value.
The brands that give the most troubles are the best brands
for them. Dell Vostro doesn't appear to have a company
service centre in Mysore.

I am having a problem with inadvertently deleting messages. It seems like the delete key is on a hair trigger. is there a solution for this problem?
My Dell XPS 13, with Windows 10 Home 64-bit OS, a Samsung PM951 ssd, will not boot past the logo.
I've tried every BIOS set-up possible, and Recovery & Restore does not work. I get the following error message:
"Cannot get SMART status. Short SMART test is not supported. Failed to repair the drives".
Is there any fix? If I have to replace the ssd, will I still have my OS? My Dell warranty has expired...
Recently whenever i attempt to play a game on my laptop (Inspiron 15-7000 7559) it powers off, just like that, instantly (not rebooting). It depends on the game/settings how long it takes but usually around a few minutes and it powers off to black, without a blue screen or whatever notification.
First thing i did was testing different drivers for the gpu, with no result.
So i started searching the internet ofcourse and i found everyone saying it's due to overheating. I have cleaned the laptop of dust, but there really wasn't that much. Then i reapplied thermal paste (arctic silver 5), it lowered temperatures a bit but not drastically (I have no warranty left so it's no problem opening it).
Temperatures of my cpu never go above 89 degrees C. gpu around 65 while gaming. Seems pretty normal to me.
i also reinstalled the bios with the original dell driver, same with the gpu driver. still no result.
The event log wasn't really that helpfull because it never gave any reasons, only that the shutdown was unexpected.
I also used MiniToolBox and that gave me a few errors with more info, if necessary i can post those here as well.
i also tried a full reinstallation of windows with no result.
so yeah i'm desperate by now.
p.s. Minecraft seems to run fine, even on all settings maxxed through the roof.

I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 13 500 series which I'm delighted with its perfect for why need.
I was wondering whether anyone could shed some light on the internal WebCam that's on the version that I have.
I know it's 3D and made by Intel from their RealSense range but I need the specifics as I'm having trouble getting it to work on
some software that I use called KinesicMouse from a company called Excissity.
The camera is all working well with features such as the Microsoft hello login working seamlessly however this other software does not seem to work
so need the exact details before I start bugging the developer.
Not sure if it's an incorrect camera unsuitable or whether it's the Windows 10 media Creator update that has bugger all up.
The camera is a developer product and need a SDK which may be the problem but I won't known and be able to troubleshoot until I know whether the camera is up to mustard.
I have looked in the device manager and properties but it simply refers to as a WebCam 3D.
I cannot see any details on the Dell site I have looked.
I did google and find this article below about the Inspiron range but it's two years out of day so nearly a decade in real years!

I have bought Dell Inspiron 5577 few days ago. I have problem with my touchpad. It's really frustrating.
When I use touchpad pointer moves in same direction as it was moving even after I stop moving my finger. This is really annoying as it's not allowing me to click at my desired place. I need to use finger to get pointer back on desired position.
I have updated drivers, installed synaptics drivers also, installed dell drivers also, every *** thing I did.
Please help, is it driver's problem ?
