My Dell laptop won't charge more than 50%. When  it gets to 50% it will display battery full 100%, while after some seconds it will go back to 49% and start charging again, after getting to 50% the same happens,. Why is that?

Dell Inspiron 5000 series extremely slow

One week back, I Bought inspiron 500 series , I7, 8 GB , 1 TB HDD TOSHIBA, 4 GB Radeon graphics, running on Windows 10.

from day 1 , start up from complete shut off takes up to 4 minutes 17 seconds, with active anti virus that was pre-installed, and 3 minutes 21 seconds when temporarily deactivating antivirus. Starting any software after restarting the computer takes up to 40 seconds, closing that software and restarting it takes few seconds only. that applies to all and any software that was installed.

Stopping all background startup softwares except WiFi and system's didn't help much.

Run Diagnostic tool provided by Dell, revealed no hardware fault.

Replacing SSD / RAM

0
0

I've got an xps 15 9560 arriving next week.

I've chosen the one with a PCIe SSD and the small battery as I have a relatively new 1tb SATA SSD that I want to install.

Do I void my warranty by installing the SSD?

I'd also probably upgrade the ram at some point, would this also void my warranty?

My laptop comes with

Would this cover a Dell engineer coming to my house to install an SSD or RAM. If so will there be any extra cost?

Does it matter that the SSD is used and already has data on it?

thanks

Dell Inspirion 15 3542 won't turn on (5 code beep) and keyboard replacement

Hi everyone,

I have a Dell Inspirion 15 3542 laptop. Bought it 2years ago in Macedonia, it was malfunctioning from week1, but because of my circumstances (student in France), i coudnt replace it nor repair it using the warranty.

I have two problems.

First problem is when I turn on the laptop I get 5 beeps, which I already know is the cmos battery.
I opened the laptop and noticed that the slot holding the battery is quite loose and the battery doesnt click on its place.

So, my question is, could I secure the battery with electricans tape?

Second question, I spilled micellar water (product for cleaning face) on my keyboard few months ago, but ignored  it (I'm dumb yeah) because the laptop was working fine the 2 days after this event. The third day, however, certain keys malfunctioned, like 't' and 'v' both give 'tv' and a lot of other keys give two characters instead one on screen.

Is there a way to repair/remplace the individual keys that dont work?

If not, I'd buy a new keyboard, but my question is, is there a way to find if the problem is in the keyboard or on motherboard and avoid spending money for a new keyboard that wont work cause the problem is in the mother board.

Thanks for you help :)

Inspiron 7110: Plugged in not charging

I've replaced the ac adapter 3 times and a new battery came today but the error persists.

I've just reinstalled the bios and run every diagnostic test recommend by Dell, no errors reported.

Aside from turning it into a frisky is there anything else I can try?

DELL Inspiron 15- 5548 Upper Palm is Cracked, is this a known issue?

Hello Guys,

I Have bought the Dell Insipron Before last year for my birthday , the model is DELL Inspiron 15 -5548, The Laptop works pretty fine when the software is concerned.

But when it comes to hard ware i could see many flaws, from 3 months there was a hinge issue and it is opening up automatically, and im just pressing slowly in order to keep it safe.

And on the other hand the Upper Palm ,the right had side beside the power button,Due to opening/closing of laptop, it started slightly cracking from the side and after some days, when i observed the crack is becoming bigger than usual day by day.

Some of my friends who are using the same laptop said that this is the manufacturing issue for this model as due to the wrongly placed power button, the pressure is on that part which makes a plastic break while opening/closing is it so?

Does any body has seen the same problem with their laptop? I tried contacting dell and they are not even accepting that it is a manufacturing issues and as the warranty is expired they are asking me $160 for the replacement.

Can Anyone suggest, how can i get rid of this problem? im feeling sick while opening and closing and unable to use comfortably.

Any Help/Suggestions are Appreciated.

Thanks!

Laptop Degradation

So I have a 3 year old XPS 15, and as with all things (especially bloated hardware) time has not been friendly. Typically i dont do a lot of gaming on this rig but I've noticed a distinct decline in machines ability to hold it's FPS in the tolerable range.

I've been looking into CCleaner and scraping away the grit and grime of programs and things, but usually with a desktop by this point i find it easier to scrap everything and begin anew with a fresh install. I'm not really all that familiar with Laptop windows reinstalls.

Would anyone recommend this or should I maybe look into just replacing the old gpu?

My Dell XPS 15(just bought) shows me weird effects when objects move in the video and the graphics isnt showing real HD

Hey guys,

I just bought my Dell XPS 2 weeks ago and i started using it this week. I tried to go on youtube and when i watch a video when objects/people or anything moves it shows a really weird effect (i have no idea how to describe it) its like when a person walks in the video or a object moves its like you notice that its shows a blurry when things move and its starting to anoy me. also on my last laptop the asus n56V i dont have this and its showing the video as it should on hd and on my dell xps 15 its not. I also notice that im not getting really sharp quality as i was expecting. My Galaxy S7 phone shows way better graphics quality. The quality im getting now from my dell xps is like 720p but barely. Anyone know how i can fix this or what this problem is?

I have the Dell XPS 15 / 512 ssd/ 16 gb ram / 1050 gtx nvidia/ the 1080p screen.

i updated the Intel(R) HD graphics 630 driver under display Adapters on device manager already by right clicking it and ''update driver''

Dell Unrecognized USB Device

This isn't specific to my laptop as I get the same message on my desktop, and a second laptop. When I try to connect my Galaxy S6 Active to any of them, they see the connection, but I get the Unrecognized USB Device message. I have tried all of the fixes I've found online. Phone is set to MTP. When I connect the phone to the only HP in the house, it sees it, and I'm able to backup files from my phone onto that system. Has anyone found a fix for this problem yet?

TIA

Michael

e6330 - Touchpad Only Works on Outer Edges

0
0

Hello!

I hope you all can help, I feel like this might be something that's been run into before but my endless Googling has not uncovered it.  I have a touchpad on an e6330 that's giving me a fit.  I bought it missing some parts, installed a hard drive, battery and some memory, Windows 10 Pro.

Here's everything I know and everything I've done....

  • It works on the outer edges of the touchpad in bios and Windows, but not in the center of the touchpad.
  • It will light up the keyboard if you touch the center, but will not move the cursor.
  • The cursor will move in Windows for a very split second from the center only the very first time you touch it after a reboot.
  • The blue dot in the touchpad icon flickers of you touch the center.  Steady if you touch it on the outer edges.
  • I have an identical computer, the drivers are the same in the working one as the non-working one.
  • Gotta be the touchpad, right?  I installed a brand new one, no change.  It came with a new ribbon to the mainboard...ruling out the ribbon too.
  • Device Manager & Dell SuppotAssist say its working.
  • Bios is most current (A19)
  • Joystick and buttons work fine, mouse works if you plug one in.
  • I've deleted the driver and even the touchpad itself and reloaded, no change.
  • Installed/updated drivers from Dell and Windows, no change.
  • Here's the kicker for me.  It works in Linux.  I have Linux Mint on a bootable USB drive, tried it for S&G and it works perfectly.

Thank you in advance!  I appreciate any help.

Cheers!

Questions about the factory restore options

0
0

I understand that you can perform a factory image restore via the recovery partition or a recovery USB.  I read some pages about these and stepped into both processes as far as I dare.  I still have questions:

The recovery options available via the partition and the recovery options available via the USB prepared by the preinstalled Create Recovery Media application appear to be the same.  Except the recovery partition asks for a Windows password and the USB searches for an installed OS.  Why that difference?  Do they both perform the same factory image restore steps and produce the same result?

What does the factory image restore really do, and not do?  Does it just reformat the partition which contains the OS and then reinstall the OS, drivers, and applications that the computer shipped with? Does it leave all other partitions alone?

After a factory image restore, is the OS partition exactly the same as it was when the computer shipped?  Are there any differences that someone should know about?

Can you do a factory image restore after installing more RAM?

Can you do a factory image restore if you have shrunk the OS partition a little bit and created one or more data partitions?

Is it possible to create a Windows + Ubuntu dual-boot system without losing the ability to do a factory image restore of the Windows that came with your Dell?

What if you use Bitlocker on Windows 10, Veracrypt on Windows 7, or a similar combination?  Do you have to decrypt the OS partition before attempting the factory restore?

What if the OS partition is severely damaged or overwritten by a partition wiping program?  That will prevent factory restore from working?

What if you want to replace a hard drive with an SSD or install a larger drive?  There are disk cloning tools which can copy things to the new drive without breaking the recovery environment and factory image restore?

Dell XPS 15 9550 Bluetooth Audio stutter and only for short distance

Just want to ask for help. When I connect my bluetooth headset to XPS 9550, it connects immediately but I notice after a few moment, I encounter the audio stutter. And when I move away from the laptop even at least 1.5 meters, I will no longer hear anything. My system is the XPS 9550 i7/ 16GB RAM / 1TB disk. I have tried downloading the recommended bluetooth driver in Dell page, but I still get the this problem.

I'm also using this headset on the other laptop Dell E5550 but I don't experience any problem at all.

I really appreciate your advise. Thank you.

Vostro 3450 Win7 64 bit Pro Missing Drivers (support assist no help)

Hi,

I have the above laptop and I just reinstalled OS with the OEM disc problem is hat I do not have the driver disc. I have been into my Dell and use the support assist to pick the drivers for my laptop. Problem is that it still shows a lot of drivers and many are not for my machine.

I did call Dell figuring that is I had to I would pay for the support and I was told that my laptop was considered "end of life" and they offered no support free of pad. But they did send me a link on how to use supportt assist to find the drivers whish is useless.

If I go into my device manager and click on the ones I need and open up the hardware info and number could someone direct myself to the correct drivers?

Needed are:

sm bus controller id pciven_8086&dev_1c2&subsys_04c51028&rev_05

unknown device acpi\smc8800

quanticom atheros bluetooth bus  root\btath_bus
