Washed out screen

0
0

I have a Dell Inspiron that has a faded and or washed out display. i have tried all the fixes and to no avail. I found a post suggesting putting a remote display onto the laptop and see if the issue transfers over to it. In my case it does not. The laptop screen stays faded and the remote screen look perfect. I'm interested in knowing if this suggests a bad display or  video chip or video module or a possible inverter board.  Any takers?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dell Inspiron N5110 is pretty bad - $200 for Repair? That is so bad

Hello,

We bought a Dell Laptop and it stopped working.  They charged $190 for the service, which I paid as the Laptop was $700. I am pretty upset with the poor Dell Customer Support.

I would no longer buy any Dell laptop.

Thanks,

Gerald

Failue to power on when plugged into AC adapter?

0
0

I am running Windows 8 on an Inspiron 5537. I have two different AC power adapters that both seem to work fine on other computers, so I'm pretty confident those aren't the problem.

My laptop does not power up if it has been plugged in tyo the AC adapter for a certain amount of time (the period of time depends on the charge of the battery before. I imagine this only happens when the battery is fully charged, and it is plugged in. Pressing the power button does absolutely nothing, and the laptop cannot be powered on until I unplug the adapter from the computer.

The computer will also power off if it stays asleep for awhile, and then fail to power on as if it was turned off and behaves as described above.

The strange thing about this problem is that unplugging the AC power adapter from the power outlet on the wall, or turning off the extension cord the adapter is plugged into, does not solve the problem. In order to turn the computer back on, the adapter end that is plugged in to the computer must be unplugged.

Due to the odd nature of this problem I assumed it was a power port or battery problem, which is probably something than cannot be solved remotely. If I needed to send my laptop in to Dell, how would I go about arranging that?

Thanks for the help. I hope this post disproves the Dell stereotype of bad customer service.

Dell XPS 15 (L521x)

Hi all,

I have a XPS 15 (L521x) model laptop with the Qualcomm Atheros Killer Wireless-N adapter 1202. On the support.dell.com website there is an updated driver version of the software that was originally present when I purchased the system. I have downloaded the software and attempted to install it per instructions, but when I try to uninstall the Qualcomm Atheros Killer Network Manager (Which is the first step according to the installer) it gives me the following error message:

Installation not supported on non Dell platforms

*SysMfg: Dell Inc.

*Mfg: Dell Inc.

*RegID:P23F

*SysID:0x0000054F

Not sure why this message keeps coming up, but until I can get past it I'm unable to update the driver version for my Killer wireless....Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dell 15R 5520 New HDD Not Recognised by BIOS

Two weeks outside the warranty period my laptop HDD failed (ePSA Error 2000:0148). I purchased an identical HDD (Seagate 500GB 5400rpm etc). However when this drive is in the machine I get a series of continuous beeps (30) then the Dell logo appears - allowing me to hit F2 to access the Insyde20 settings screen. This shows the new HDD is not detected. IF I put the failed HDD back in the machine. The Insyde20 settings screen shows th HDD has been detected. What can I do to get the machine to recognise the new HDD ?

Dell XPS L321X not charging

when i plug the charger in it gives me a ERROR message saying that charger has not been recognized and therefore pc will be connected to electricity, but battery will not be chargeed.

dell online pc check service (my dell) said that pc is working fine as well as software and battery.

i bought from dell a new original dell battery charger thinking that the older one might be messed up. Unfortunately i get the same message error even with the new charger plugged in.

Almost new Dell Precision M4800 Laptop won't turn on nor charge

This laptop isn't even one month old.. this is sincerely frustrating as i have alot of important work saved on here...

  • When I plug in the charger.. the battery light turns on for a second then the battery light turns back off.
  • When I try to turn on the laptop with the charger plugged in.. nothing happens at all.
  • When I try to turn on the laptop with just the battery without being plugged in.. the power button will light up for a second then go back off.

i've tried:

  • taking out the battery and holding down the power light for 1 minute.. waited 30 seconds tried turning it on with the power chord with no prevail.
  • holding Fn and turning it on and nothing

some signs i've been seeing:

  • only bad signs i've seen was before it just didn't boot anymore.. maybe twice out of the 6 last time i've booted.. as soon as i typed my password to get into windows it would just shut off.  i'd jus reboot and it worked fine.
  • when it stopped turning on.. after messing with plugging it in or not (i didn't know if the battery was dead) i was able to make it past the windows sign on screen.. was going to email myself all my work before it suddenly shut off on me again.......
  • the battery had maybe 1/3rd life before it died

note:

  • i MIGHT have interchanged battery chargers with another older dell model laptop.. but i think only a few times at most.. it mostly sits at work on a docking station at work.  i have a feeling i never did though.  from what i've read it seems like the battery chargers are all compatible as long as it's dell.

sigh so do i have to send this back to Dell?  any help would be sincerely appreciated

XPS 17 boot problems

I have a Dell XPS 17 with a boot problem.

If I press the power button it flashes on and then off.  The machine does not even begin to power up - no fans, nothing on the screen, etc.  This occurs on both battery and charger.  This problem originally started out as happening once in a while, and has progressed to the point where the machine will not boot at all.

However, with the machine connected to the charger, if I press and hold the D key on the keyboard and then press the power button the machine always powers on, runs the LCD diagnostics, and then drops into the normal boot menu.  Running the hardware diagnostics from the bios shows no errors.

Any ideas as to what the is causing the failure and why the LCD diagnostics appear to always get the machine to work?

Dell XPS 15 L502x 'Wireless Adapter Not Found' & Failed Authentication Test

I've researched the hell out of this and while i'm not the most fluent with computers I have tried everything I can think of. There seems to be countless threads with this identical problem but each vary greatly with the solution.

background on the laptop...Dell XPS 15 L502x, recently reformatted with a fresh copy of Windows 7, I have also updated to BIOS A12.

following the reinstall of windows 7 I used the laptop's 'drivers & utilities' disk to install all my drivers and immediately noticed the intermittent connection with the internet. After that I updated my BIOS to A12 and then updated wireless adapters **I used the intel PROset/wireless tools driver (v16.0.0) from intel's website.

Under the Intel My WIFI adapter Icon displays 'Adapter not found' so I ran the Intel PROset diagnostic tool and failed the Authentication Test. So I researched an installed the Dell Wireless 5540 HSPA Mini Card A12 update, which another thread swears is the solution...no luck

I've tried using wireless plugged in, and on battery power and unchecked the 'save power' options in the driver properties. Some threads claim this is the issue.

my question is has anyone solved this issue on a Dell XPS 15 L502x on BIOS A12? if so can you show me which drivers you have used or how you fixed the problem? thanks!

Can I increase the Dell Inspiron 1011 Mini 10 to 2 gig of RAM for a Win 7 upgrade?

BestBuy Geek Squad thought it would work but when they replaced the 1 gig with a 2 gig chip ... the machine would not boot-up?????  Thanks.

XPS 18 "Ghost Clicking" Problem

0

I just purchased the Dell XPS 18 and right out of the box noticed a very bizarre "Ghost Clicking" issue. When the touchscreen is enabled the computer will randomly "click" various places on the screen with a mind of its own.

Usually it clicks in about the same place because it usually clicks the same bookmark in my browser, but the issue happens in every application.

When I disable the touchscreen the problem goes away and what is very weird is that the issue specifically seems to only happen with the touchscreen enabled when the computer is on the charging stand . . . When I lay it down flat on my desk (not on the charging stand) and use the keyboard and mouse, the issue doesn't seem to happen.

Any ideas Dell engineers? I have already spoken with support. I have updated my drivers, the OS, the BIOS, and even installed a "touch screen patch" that I was very hopeful would solve the problem, but nothing has worked!

Please help!

Dell XPS 15 Windows 8.1 USB Port Problem - DO NOT INSTALL THIS OS!

0

I have just spent all day (a good 10 hours) attempting to install Windows 8.1 on my Dell XPS 15. What an absolute disaster this is proving to be! First, the graphics driver was causing an issue where when I booted up I would see nothing but a black screen and flicking mouse. After eventually finding out how to get to safe mode, I rectified this by removing the graphics drivers before the installation then re-installing afterwards. When I thought it was fixed, some applications wound have a lower resolution than others, I spent more hours of my time finding out why this was and it turns out I had to tick "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" in the compatibility settings of the program concerned. Now I was under the deluded belief everything was fixed until I plugged my external hard drive into one of my USB ports which now seems not to have power (nothing happens when I plug anything into this port). The two other ports work fine. Has anybody had this issue and if so, I don't suppose you have a fix? To all those considering installing Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, DO NOT!

my computer crash when i try to launch games

half year ago, i bought a laptop from dell, inspiron 17r, with windows 8 as a operating system. i installed the game "assassin's creed" on my laptop and it worked perfectly, but a month ago i upgraded my operating system to windows 8.1, and i tried to play the same game, "assassin's creed", but my computer crashed and it showed to my an orange screen and their it wrote that the problem name is "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (igdkmd64.sys)". so i wrote to Microsoft a massage and they told my to upgrade my drivers. so i did it, but the problem is still show up! so i wrote to Microsoft again and they told my to write to dell and to check out if all my drivers are the correct drivers. so if someone can help me to check if all my drivers are the correct drivers it could be realy nice:)

thanks to all the people  that will help:)

Inspiron 15R high pitch noise

Hello

I recently bought an Dell Inspiron 15R (Inspiron 5537) and I have a weird problem with it.  The problem is, that display backlight (or probably its regulation circuit) is making an super annoing high pitched noise that is driving me crazy. Im guessing, it is a backlight because if i turn the screen brightness to full, noise dissapears and notebook is completely silent.

What can i do with it? Should I ask for a warranty ?  Or is there some other way?

Sorry for my bad english

Thank you

Samuel

My experience with Dell XPS, worst laptop ever. Case get closed without being resolved.

One year, 2 XPS L421x, multiple boards and LCDs, hours and hours of phone calls, multiple depot visit, issue still unresolved. Such waste of time.
