SD Card Reader not working on Latitude E6420
I bought a refurbished Dell Latitude E6420. I had not tried the sd card reader till recently so I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I am part of the insider build community where I get new updates before they are released to the public. I am currently running Build16278.rs3
_release.170825-1441. So I tried my SD card for the first time. and it did not work. The sd card shows up under disk drives in the device manager and I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them with no change. The sd card reader also shows up in the device manager and I did the same with those drivers, so all of the drivers are the newest. When I insert the sd, it shows up as removable drive E and I get a message that it is unreadable and that it needs to be formatted. I put the sd card into another laptop and backed everything up and then tried to format it on the E6420 but it failed. The sd card shows up in disk management as well and I am not able to format it there either. I cannot rollback to a stable build, and am not sure this is even the reason I am having this problem.
Any thought's out there? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
P.S. - i posted in a Microsoft forum first but when i told them the SD card reader was internal they suggested I contact the manufacturer. Here is a link to that thread if you want to see the steps I have taken so far.

Inspiron i5548 laptop pops open at the right side joint while closing
Hi Team,
I bought the Dell Inspiron 15 i5548-1670SLV Signature Edition Laptop as of 07/15/2017 and recently I started noticing cracking sound coming from right hand side. Later of in regular operation process the laptop popped open from the right hand side when I was shutting the lid of the laptop.
This was a dedicated home only laptop - which was never being moved and was always sitting on a desk opened up per need basis. I was really astonished to see this happen with a DELL in just 2 years of purchase. I was searching around the net and then I cam to notice below link on the same site - based on which I could inferr this is a known problem and design flaw with this laptop itself - not sure why Dell has not called off a recall for this. That my laptop warranty is over - if they will cover this and rectify for a design defect or I have to pay for the same. I will raise a case with Dell Support.
Possibly - DELL-Terry B, from their Team could help who have acknowledged this problem!!

130 watt adaptor needed for Laptop L520X

Dell updates crashing new laptop Inspiron 15 3000
This thing is only 2 months old. Every time a Dell update has been installed something important has gone wrong, like losing internet access, or the on light staying on after full shutdown. The last 3 times saying yes to an update has frozen all pages and programs and then the whole computer hangs up and can only be turned off with power button. Three days ago this all happened even though I'd decided to ignore the update notification--after the 3rd time delaying it the same freeze everything event happened. It took almost 2 hours after all the shutdown drama to get it rebooted and functioning normally. So this morning when update notice appeared yet again, I clicked Install and everything froze--finally got Task Manager to close things and chose the Install Updates and Shut Down choice and though it seemed installation was done, perpetual white circle and would not shut down yet again. This is driving me crazy and using huge amounts of time. Back when I first got this thing there was some option offered for updates to be installed at night while computer off but I don't know how to find that again. (Of course this would make me wonder every time I reboot what may have gone wrong now.) These updates seem lethal--if I can't ignore them, what do I do??? Please don't suggest anything in registry edit, I can't deal with that level of tech anymore. Thanks!

Inspiron 15 5555 - Why No Beep Codes?
After having some recent problems with my Dell Inspiron 15 5555 laptop, it occurred to me that there are no beep codes, which may have been helpful given that the laptop would not turn on after hitting the power button. This model lacks in so many ways..there is no light on the power button, no backlit keys, and the one & only LED on the left front of the laptop, is only lit while charging (white) and amber when battery is low. When you power off the laptop, I just watch the dark LED area until there is one quick flash, which indicates it has shut down.
I have tried looking for any information which either states that there are or are not any beep codes. Everything I find refers to other specific models or there is the general Dell info which touts its diagnostic helpers...beep codes or LEDs. Wonder if anyone here can shed any light on this.
Incidentally, I have a Dell Inspiron Desktop (2015) which I realized that it too does not have any beep codes. I just find this odd, as the 10 year old Dell PC it replaced, had beep codes. Again, it was something that I didn't really notice until I had to troubleshoot...

Laptop shuts down immediately after waking from sleep
My laptop is brand new, Dell Inspiron 17 7779. All software and firmware is up to date.
The laptop goes to sleep fine, but when I wake it up, it immediately shuts down. Does anybody know how to fix this?

PXE-E61 media test failure
Hello, can anyone help me?

I have this media test failure and read thru the forums that i will disable NIC. So i did.
Then another error has come up. Reboot system something.
The HDD is detected in the FIXED HDD.
Dont know what to do.

XPS 9560 thinks TB16 is always connected, but dock doesnt work
I have a new XPS 9560 and a TB16 dock. Up until a recent auto-update, both worked fine.
After the update, the ethernet and USB on the TB16 would not be detected. I reinstalled all drivers, but no luck. The new Thunderbolt firmware update listed on the support page also wont install as it says 'needs latest thunderbolt controller' - I have the latest controller.
Looking at Dell Command Update, this is what is says for Thunderbolt, the firmware entry doesn't look right
And this is what the thunderbolt software says:
So ive done a fresh Win10 install, but before i even connect the TB16, Windows starts installing the thunderbolt drivers and constantly says "Base System Device" connected. This even happens if i disable Thunderbolt devices in the BIOS.
So it seems to me like the laptop thinks the dock is permanently connected, even when it's not.
Anyone have any ideas?

Laptop suddenly won't boot Windows anymor
Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 15-3521 running Windows 8.1
All of a sudden (after using it after ca. 1 year) it won't boot the Windows anymore. It says: "Media test failure, check cable" and "No boot device found. Press any key etc"
I actually had a software for checking my hard disk and it once said there was a problem with cables, but I really didn't pay attention to it.
Then I googled the problem and found out there can be something done with Legacy/UEFI booting. So I changed it to the UEFI. First of all "Windows boot manager" doesn't appear in the list and when I turn on the laptop it says twice "checking media [failed]" and tells me to restart the computer.
Can you help me to solve this problem? I have some important data on this hard disk.
P.S I had an unactivated version of Windows. Can this be the reason?

Dell Latitude E6440 has black rectangle on screen when started up
Hi,
I have a latitude E6440 running the latest Win 10. In the last few days, every time I start my laptop from sleep or off, a black block (see pic) appears on screen but otherwise the function of laptop is unaffected (I can click behind it etc).
The block goes away after anything from a few seconds to a few minutes, not seemingly after any particular actions. Occasionally the block has gone grey or to flashing lines.
I updated to latest intel graphics driver but have seen no change.
Any thoughts very welcome.

Moving E6430 Win 7 Hard Drive to another identical laptop. Problems?
Hi all!
Question 1: Owning a E6430 with twin video card, the laptop was damaged.
The person that damaged the laptop will of course refund me, however
I really like that model so I will get another identical lease return.
Can I simply swap the HD to the new one and go?
What happens with the Windows Product Key?
Question 2: Can I go with e E6530 to have a bigger screen with my swapped hard drive?

Any fixes for the Inspiron 15 Gaming Hinge malfunction?
Every time I open the computer, the case pops open a little. It's been doing it since the first week but it's only getting worst so now I'm researching it. It's obviously a design flaw so it needs to be recognized by dell. Hopefully they will contact me about this before escalation.

Upgrading display panel from FHD to QHD possible?
Hello,
I'm new to the community and I just purchased my first alienware laptop (AW 17 R4) with the i7 7700hq, gtx 1070, 256GB SSD, and the standard 1080 FHD display. I hear that the QHD 2k display is worth the extra $250. I already placed my order and it should be here in a couple days by now. Will Dell let me return the laptop to order the same one but with an upgrade to the display or how would that work?

Latitude 7480 wont wake up from sleep mode
hi, im having trouble after putting it down to sleep from the power menu, it doesnt wake up, opening the lid doesnt work, power button neither, keyboard just flashes backlights when touched.
it only responds when pressing for 5 seconds the power button and forcing reboot
all updates are installed up to date.
