Creaking Left Hinge - Inspiron 17 7779 2-in-1

0
0

I got this system in Nov. 2016.  It is lightly used since I have other systems I use most of the time.

Recently, the left hinge has started creaking when I open the lid.  This makes me think the hinge is binding and may lead to a physical problem with the hinge/case, which Dell does not seem to stand behind.

I do not know if these hinges are lubricated during manufacture but does anyone have any suggestions if a lubricant might help and if so, what type of lubricant should be used?

Thanks...

Clark

Owner Tag???

Not sure if it is an Owner tag or a third party program ran to add it to the boot screen.

When booting and the Dell splash appears there is AMERACAN AIRLINES above it.

We have about 50 of these that we would like to remove.

I recently noticed that two of the case torx screws have fallen out. Where can I find replacements? I believe that the carbon fiber bottom of the case allows the screws to loosen over time.

Hynix PC300 NVMe SSD endurance rating values?

This type of NVMe SSD is shipped in laptops from the Precision line (an possibly others). I could find basic technical details directly from Hynix (link below) and its code name HFS001TD8MND-5510A. However, no information about its endurance rating. Could Dell disclose these values? (at least for the 512GB and 1TB models)

Thanks!

Laptop Stalling/Resetting, losing Wireless Network capabilities--Possibly Network card/driver--Dell Inspiron M531R-5535

Hello, seem to be having a rather serious issue with my laptop lately. It seems to be occasionally going through a sort of crash. First it "stutters", locking up, unable to move the mouse, if audio is playing it will loop. Then it just resets itself, as if crashing. There's been no consistency on to what causes it, or how often. Playing a Youtube video, running a virus scan, trying to reinstall the network driver, or even just trying to open up the network center in control panel. Sometimes it will go ten minutes, sometimes a couple hours before resetting itself. When it comes back, I no longer have any wireless network capabilities, and the network driver is missing. The icon displays a box, rather then a wifi symbol, with a red 'x', and says "No connections available". Resetting it again seems to fix it, but some times it takes a a few tries. And sometimes it seems I lose just my wireless network capabilities, without a crash (something that happened while writing out this post). The icon stays a wifi symbol, but with a red x. No one else in my household is having any issues, and my phone connects just fine. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless driver, but that doesn't seem to work. I reset the modem, of course, but that didn't solve it. I ran a diagnostic with the Dell Support Assist, but it said it passed and detected no issue. Only solution I've found seems to be to restart it, and hope it takes a while before it crashes again. My laptop model is in the subject, the wireless adapter seems to be a Dell wireless 1705, and I'm running Win 10 64. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Inspiron 15R 7537 Screen Replacement

I own an Inspiron 7537 touch version, and love it. About a month ago, black lines started appearing on the top corners, then became big blotches. Now the entire screen is greenish and there are visible lines. In short, the screen is dying and it has become ugly.

In short, the screen is dying and it has become ugly.

My laptop is 2.5 years old and I don't have any warranties. I live in India. Can anyone please help me with what options I may have? I am capable of installing a replacement screen by myself, where I have two very important questions in my mind:

1. What is the best screen replacement option for me

Where do I get after warranty support from dell, and will it be as feasible as just replacing the panel myself? What will be the cost differences and options

2. Can I upgrade my panel to a 1080p while I'm at it?

as far as I know, keeping the screen off and connecting to a 1080p external monitor, I can use the digitizer and it scales well to the whole 1080p external monitor(i am using Ubuntu). Which hints that I may upgrade just the panel and the touchscreen combo will work just fine.

Does anyone have any experience or thought on the matter? Help will be much appreciated!

Do you use Dell Technical Updates subscription and/or Dell Update and/or Dell SupportAssist?

Hi all,

I'm interested in your strategies for getting updates for your Dell laptops.

When I got my XPS 15, I subscribed to the Technical Updates service, to receive emails about updates.

That was before I realised my laptop came with the Dell Update application, which advises me of updates via notifications.

I was a bit uncomfortable having two sources of updates. Am I wasting bandwidth downloading the same update twice? Am I overwriting a newer update from one source with an older update from the other source? etc

And I've recently had the SupportAssist 'plugin' installed. Lo and behold, it's Drivers and Downloads section is also suggesting updates.

Do I need all three of these?

I'm tempted to unsubscribe from the emails, uninstall SupportAssist, and just rely on Dell Update. Am I going to miss any important updates if I do this?

Thanks for your help.

I installed windows 7 Prof 64 bit in this machine. I noticed it is a 32 bit machine.

How is this possible?

What implications would this 64 bit installation have?

Inspiron 5557 no splash screen and BIOS setup access after update BIOS 1.2.6

The same issue from BIOS 1.2.5 is happening with BIOS 1.2.6. After the update, the boot screen remain totally black (no Dell logo) and you cant enter in the BIOS interface (no video at all).

The workaround is to downgrade to BIOS version 1.2.3

The windows boots as usual, and maybe this is the reason that users havent noticed this issue.

The bios upgrade/downgrade is automated. No mouse clicks are needed. Just wait computer to boot and wait some minutes. After this (blind) downgrade (because there is no video), you will see the dell logo once again and everything works as usual.

Hello, I've seen Dell support guys mention Crucial.com before got buying RAM. Is there website safe and secure? They have an 8gb stick for half of the price of the one on Dell.com. Should I use it?

Hi,

It all started with an error during boot that said - hard drive read error occurrred

researched and found out that my HDD has crashed therefore ordered a new one. on installing the new HDD and booting i see now Operating system not found error and sometimes i see PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, check cable

again researching found that i have to disable Integrated NIC so i did and PXE error went off but no clue how to resolve Operating system not found !!

I have bootable windows 10 USB flash drive that i planned to install / repair OS on old/new HDD but that does not work either. It says winload EXE corrupted or not found.

can someone help and note that i have already researched old posts.

Thank you

Good afternoon, I am a distributor of technology here in Colombia and recently entered a product called DELL XPS 13-9050, which comes with processor i5-6200u, solid 128Gb and 4Gb RAM ddr3l.

E6230 keyboard initialization failure alert

I've had this laptop for over a year and has been working fine. A week ago, on starting, I got this screen msg:

Alert! Keyboard initialization failure.

To continue press F1 key. To change setup option press F2 key. To run onboard diagnostics press F5.

I ran the diagnostics, and everything is fine. But this alert hapens almost on every start now, and sometimes when I press the power button, absolutely nothing happens on the screen, tho the light for the HD comes on. And now it can take several minutes of press and re-press on the power key to get it to boot, and then, sometimes, get the above alert, but sometimes not.

Anyone have experience with this problen, or thoughts on what needs to be done to get back to a normal start.

Thanks.

XPS 15 keyboard issue

Hi,

Just got a brand new Dell XPS 15, love it.

Have noticed an irritating keyboard quirk though.

When I type the " or ' character, it doesn't appear on the screen right away, I have to press another button (like space, or another letter) and only then is the " or ' revealed. Its actually happening right now as I type this post. This is rather irritating.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Thx

TKZ

PS. I have check the other characters and they all appear when I press the actual key.

Adjusting the backlight timeout (Inspiron 15 5000 gaming)

I'm trying to either adjust the timeout, or disable it altogether to keep the light on.

I'm running an inspiron 15 5000 gaming series.

There is no option in the windows mobility center, and there is no option in the bios.

Are there drivers/programs that are available anywhere?

Any suggestions?
