Studio 1558 - restore ISO for Windows 7 needed

$

Hi,

I need to do a full OS reinstall for my Studio 1558 to Windows 7, but have lost the CDs that came with it. Looking at the Dell support pages, that ISO is no longer available. Is there any way that I can get hold of them? I have the licence key (it's on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop), so don't need to worry about that.

Thanks,

Anna.

I have Inspiron 17 N7010: upgraded memory from 6GB to 8GB. Now I keep getting Microsoft warning LOW MEMORY, close programs. Never got that warning before upgrade. I've tried the virtual memory increase but that didn.t  help. What gives????? Can anyone HELP?? The computer screen turns black & the hard drive light on front of laptop goes to solid then starts to blink. You Can hear that it working or as they say restoring memory. But usually when this happens I only have (1) one program open. It goes black even before I have time to close any programs if they were open. I've done all sorts of diagnostics & tried to get Dell tech. to help, but they were NO HELP without MONEY. Yes, out of warranty. Don't know what else to do!! Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!

UPGRADED TO MORE MEMORY PER DELL SUGGESTION / NOW DON'T HAVE ENOUGH!!!

Dell XPS 15 9550 Battery Bloat Issue

Hi everyone

My XPS 15 9550, which has been out of warranty for a few months, recently got the dreaded bloated battery/raised trackpad. I've done my research and saw that this is a common issue that Dell still has not chosen to recall or do anything about. It feels like these batteries were made to mess up just after warranty ends.

How successful have people been when trying to get a replacement from Dell out of warranty? It seems very difficult to find an email for tech support. I'd rather not spend $100 to buy a new battery because there were some corners cut with the battery manufacturer.

Hi all,

Please help me... since I bought my DELL Inspiron 1545 laptop I never had a problem with it and today it didn't want to start. I ran the advised checks on it that I found in the forum and this is what I got:

Error Code 0142

Error code 2000-0142

Hard drive 0 self test unsuccessful

Status 79

I'm devastated as I have a lot of work on this laptop. Could anyone tell me if the hard drive failure means that I lost everything, all the data, all my work and all my files, pictures stored on the laptop?

What do I have to do now? Is there any more info I should give so that someone could help me?

Thanks for any help.

Precision M6600 laptop shuts down a few secs after turning on

$

Hi all,

My M6600 running Win10 recently showed a blue screen of death with the stopcode "Page fault in nonpaged area". The laptop rebooted and ran a couple more times, each time giving the BSOD and the same fault code. Now the laptop turns itself off a few seconds after the power button is pressed. All I get in those few seconds is the HDD, WiFi and NUM lock lights, the fans running and DVD and HDD spins before it turns off. The display doesn't come on before the PC shuts off.

I haven't installed any new software or hardware before this fault occurred.

I have tried turning on with and without the battery, and with and without the AC adapter connected. Also unplugged and reseated both memory modules, tried modules individually, unplugged DVD and HDD drives, reconnected them. None of these things has helped.

Does anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks in advance

Inspiron 7559 Hard Drive not recognized at boot, but seen in Bios/Passes Dell Diagnostics and Other H/D tests?

HI,

My Inspiron 7559 won't boot, giving the message that hard drive not present/not found. This happened just after I received the laptop back from Dell. I had sent it to Dell without the hard drive for an ethernet card replacement. When I re-installed the drive, it would not boot. It was fine before I sent it.

However, BIOS identifies it as a Seagate Sata drive while Dell Diagnostics declares that all laptop components, including the hard drive are fine.

I first got the PXE-E61:Media test failure, check cable error. I soon learnt that this merely meant Bios could not find an internal hard drive and was searching for a network boot. Once I turned off networking in BIOS I went to a simple, no hard drive found error, which is where I am now.

The hard drive may or may not have failed. I've run six hard drive testing programs on the drive in an external dock. The results are ambiguous. Three (Macrorit, EaseUS Partition Master and Western Digital Drive Tester) all give the drive a clean bill of health. Three others (HD Sentinel, HDD Scan and  Crystal Disk Info), however, all reports various degrees of ill-health. Copies of the results of these tests are attached in a PDF file.

Anyway, I can read and navigate the drive with Windows Explorer in an external dock.

I don't want to abandon the drive as I have a lot of software loaded that I can't easily or plain can't reload.

I Googled this boot problem with mixed results. I've tried various changes to Bios with no luck.So I am writing here to ask the following:

  1. Can anyone tell me what the factory Bios settings should be for the Inspiron 7559? How can I restore the defaults and should I?
  2. What are the recommended Bios settings for an Inspiron 7559 running Windows 10 Home. (I think my copy of Home had been updated to the latest version of Creator. I can't swear to this, but it has certainly been updating.to whatever the latest update to Windows 10 Home is)
  3. What various Bios settings I might try to get it to boot.
  4. Any trick I can try to get it to boot (hold the power button down for twenty seconds etc., let it warm up, do several boots in succession and so forth)
  5. Anything else I might try.

It could be that the boot files themselves or the Windows operating system has become corrupted. In which case I will have to re-install Windows. However, I would like to see if I have any other options before taking this drastic step. I find it odd that the laptop stopped booting after I removed the hard drive and sent it to Dell. I wonder if Dell Technicians inadvertently reset some boot settings external to the hard drive. Is this possible?

Also, does anyone know of any ways or software with which I could  repair corrupted boot files or corrupted Windows files?

I thank everyone in advance for whatever suggestions and advice they can give.

Thanks

Help with my new Inspiron 7520

I need some basics on items on this new laptop that my old laptop did not have. A manual woulds be useful if available but the only manual online is a 'how to' to remove and install inside items. I have done several searches online and cannot find what I am looking for. The quick guide that came with my laptop doesn't identify several objects or markings on the outer body for example. And no instructions on several things I would know if my last laptop had not lasted 13 years. Thanks1

preparaing disk repair stuck

I hello everyone  ,

'm using a Dell Inspiron 15R laptop, operating on the latest update of windows 8.1. When I turned on my laptop today, it was acting fine. When it asked me for the password, after typing it in, my computer froze. I left it alone for a few minutes. When it didn't unfreeze, I decided to manually shut it off using the power button. The power button didn't succeed in turning it off, so I closed my laptop and left it alone for a while. When I opened it up, there was a black screen. I tried turning it on, to no effect; it almost seemed like it froze with the screen off. After a few more attempts of trying to turn it on/off, shutting the laptop, opening it again and repeating the process, it finally turned on. The  Then the Dell symbol popped up again, and beneath it, it said "Preparing Automatic Repair" with a loading symbol. After a few seconds, the screen flashed black, then the Dell symbol popped up again, underneath it there being a loading symbol and the words "Diagnosing your PC." The words then changed again to "Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete." After waiting two hours, I turned it off and on a few more times, hoping that it would fix itself, but to no avail. I really need to fix this as soon as possible, because I need my laptop to do homework. I haven't backed up my computer, so is there still any way to save the stuff I have saved to my computer?I chatted with MS customer care  . he told me to go for full format of my laptop . earlier boot option menu was coming. but I performed once chkdsk\r cmd on command prompt. but not I am not able to get boot option menu :-( please help me L:-( I dont have the boot CD

Dell DataSafe factory image is 'missing or corrupted'

$

About a year ago I installed some Windows updates on my Dell Inspiron 15R SE, running Windows 7 64 bit (I believe SP2). This resulted in a CRYPT32.DLL missing error leaving me unable to boot into Windows. Small problem, so it might appear I just tried to restore it to factory settings using Dell DataSafe as I've done in the past (successfully) –– only to get an error message that said factory image is 'missing or corrupted'. Not having the opportunity to attempt to fiddle with the Dell till today, I'm not sure how it magicked or corrupted itself out of the way.

My question is what options do I have to restore my Dell to factory settings? I have no recovery discs, only a Drivers and Utilities disk, P/N YGVMD Rev. A00. The warranty expired two years ago so I expect I'd have to pay an arm and a leg for tech support. Please help. All good advice appreciated.

Dell XPS 15 9560 Trackpad and Touchscreen Issues

$

Okay, so this just started happening tonight, but my trackpad and touchscreen on my XPS 15 9560 aren't working like they used to. I've had this laptop for about one and a half months and this is only happening now.

Whenever I use my trackpad, be it using one finger to navigate Chrome or to select files, the trackpad randomly registers my one finger navigation as two finger scrolling and scrolls down the page. If I'm actually scrolling with two fingers on my laptop, sometimes the trackpad will register this as two finger zooming and will resize the webpage. Sometimes it will even register my two finger use as a three finger gesture and minimize my open windows. I don't know why this has started happening, and why only now, but it has made my trackpad unusable and I can't seem to do basic navigations anymore.

My touchscreen is also starting to konk out on me. It just plain stops working. I can touch it once, and it will register, but then any more touches won't register. I can't scroll with the touchscreen and it becomes unresponsive.

This is my only laptop and the laptop I will be using for the next four years. I'd really appreciate help in fixing these issues. Thanks.

dell inspiron duo 1090 Power issue

I have a dell inspiron duo mini 1090 that I replaced the battery in and also replaced the power supply.

The PC with ext pwr applied will come up long enough to get into the diagnostics mode and run up to a partial Mem test and then shut down.  Same thing if I boot normally.  Does not seem to see the battery.  The Batt. is plugged into the main board.

This PC needs a 30w PS at 19V.  Any Thoughts!

XPS 15 9550 - BIOS 1.2.29 - unusable USB keyboard and mouse

$

Updated to 1.2.29. Immediately experienced two serious problems with USB keyboard and mouse plugged into TB16 dock:

Keyboard does not deliver all events. For example, "key up" event is not sent, causing a key I pressed and release to repeat. This is true with normal chars, the spacebar, and delete (deleting all text I typed). Pressing keys here and there eventually gets out of this condition, but then it happens again, repeatedly. Makes typing on external keyboard useless.

Mouse frequently freezes up. Sometimes comes back on its own; other times, I have to unplug and replug to get it to restart. NOTE: if I plug into USB on 9550 instead, it seems to work reliably. That might also be true for the keyboard, but did not try.

Attempted to revert to 1.2.25 (the version I had before). Doing so deleted my UEFI boot, and I could not get past diagnostics or boot options. I found a procedure on how to manually create a new UEFI boot (named My Boot) and was able to start Windows 10 again.

It is normal after updating BIOS to have to re-enter the long BitLocker password, since I have that enabled. But after restoring to 1.2.25, it is necessary to re-enter every time I power up. This is a huge annoyance.

Dell Inspiron 7000 won't recognise Dell U2412M Monitor on Windows 10?

$

I have just bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 15.6" Laptop

...and I want to use my Dell u2412M monitor, to extend the screens for my workspace ( or simply use the bigger monitor screen).

To achieve this I am using an HDMI cable with an HDMI to DVI adaptor to plug the cable into the Dell monitor.

I've tested the cable on my old Sony laptop using HDMI to DVI and it recognises the monitor and works (my other laptop was running Windows 7).

However the new laptop won't recognise or see the monitor at all when I plug in the HDMI cable?

I have checked under "manage my devices" and the graphics card driver seems up to date on the laptop.

Is there something I need to download to make the monitor work please as I assumed it would plug and play.

Many thanks!!!
