Need help with hardware upgrade on Vostro 1450

Apparently I've set up an egpu for my Vostro 1450, now I'm trying to give this thing more ram but I've found some interesting thing on the Internet:

First thing is, The i7-2670QM can support 1600MHz bus speed. I know this notebook was originally sold with the i3-2330M but I've installed a 2670QM a long time ago, and it's running perfectly fine.

Second thing is, I've seen people saying that some system will work just fine even with the Ram exceeding manufacturer's limitation. The Dell page told me the limit for this system is 8GB, but I believe both the HM67 chipset and the i7-2670QM supports more than that.

So my question is, if I'm upgrading this notebook, can I go 2x8GB with 1600 bus? Or I'll have to stick with the 8GB/1 limitation?

Dell Desktop Mode Battery Utility for Alienware 13

Hi there,

I have turned on the desktop mode in the dell battery utility which holds the battery charge at around 50% to 80% level. However, after resetting the system I lost this software and somehow the desktop mode is still on and I have no way to turn it off (so I can't charge my battery to full).

I guess if I could reinstall Desktop Battery Utility this would be solved, but I couldn't find it anyway (not even on the drivers/apps support page). Is there anyone who knows where I can download the software for Alienware 13 or other ways to turn off the desktop mode?

Cheers

Bluetooth Driver Missing After Disabling (Dell Latitude E5470)

Hi,

Recently, I disabled the Bluetooth icon in Network Connections. After that I could not enable it back as the icon is missing. I tried to search in Device Manager but there is no Bluetooth Radio item.

I tried to use C:\Windows\System32\fsquirt.exe to receive files but got an error message "The file could not be sent because the connection could not be established. Check to make sure the Bluetooth radio is plugged in."

In Services, I can see the following:

Bluetooth Device Monitor, Bluetooth Media Service, Bluetooth OBEX Service, bthserv.

How do I install back the Bluetooth Radio in Device Manager?

Any help is appreciated.

I just bought a Dell XPS 13 9350 5 days ago

Battery cant charging.

1. I have update to latest BIOS 1.4.18

2. I make sure using the Dell Baterry comes within the same box when I bought, it's written 45W

What should I do or diagnose ?

It's a new laptop anyway.

It's very unpleasant, to buy a new laptop, with AC adapter that cannot charging

Finding advice for new Dell 7000 owner - search? index/categories?

I know that many others must have asked this over many years but can't see an easy way to find what I need.

Later this week I will have a brand new Dell 7000 with a 256GB SSD to tailor - in particular how to ensure I can use as much as possible of the SSD in a structured manner so the backups to a v.large external USB device can be well managed - ideally using (MR) Macrium Reflect (purchased but Home Ed.).

From initial research it appears that the partition structure on arrival will be the usual EFI "stuff" (2p?) followed by Windows and then at least one 'Factory Reset' partition.

My instincts are to try to boot from a UEFI MR USB stick and backup all of the SSD before I run the MS intro' script / prompts / set-up. Is that worth it?

Either way I will get to the point where I *do* have a MR image backup of the whole SSD inc. the Recovery partition(s). I then plan to delete the Recovery partition(s) as they will only be useful in the case a disk crash and the external backup is therefore the only place they ARE useful.

I then plan to shrink the C drive to 80-100GB and create a D drive for my (user) Data which has v.different backup requirements to the C drive. I *may* also the block-size 16 or even 32kB as v.few files are smaller than even 8kB.

I haven't used Dell equipment for 20+ years so I am *hoping* nothing above is a surprise or difficult but I would seriously appreciate any feedback from real users...

Many thanks in advance for any input and especially pointers to posts which might cover the topics raised by my thoughts above and maybe some I haven't even thought of or be aware that I need to.

Cheers, BrianR.

I have a dell Inspirion n5050 with a Intel Core i3-2330M processor wondering if a Intel Core i5-2540M (PGA) here is data I found to support compatibility

Below is a complete set of Intel Core i3-2330M (PGA) and i5-2540M (PGA) benchmarks from our CPU benchmark database. Both microprocessors were tested on Supermicro X9SCV-Q motherboard with 2 GB dual-channel Crucial CT2KIT12864BC1339 DDR3-1333 SODIMM memory, and Integrated on-chip Intel Sandy Bridge graphics.

All tests were performed at default frequency and voltage, using manufacturer's stock fan/heatsink. None of the components were overclocked. Motherboard BIOS options were left at default settings.

The results of all benchmarks are broken into four categories: multi-threaded, single-threaded, memory intensive and graphics / gaming.

9550 second HDD installation: not recognized

Hello, I have an XPS 15 9550 with 256GB SSD. I bought an interposer cable with rubbers and tried to install a 500GB Samsung 850 EVO HDD in the spare slot. Not showing up in disk management,  not in device manager, not even showing up in BIOS. SATA0 and SATA1 are turned on in BIOS. I double checked the interposer connections and everything seems tight on both ends. This should just require partitioning to work, right? So I could just have a DOA 850 EVO. What else could it be? BIOS is set to RAID not AHCI, but that should be OK?

Thank you all

new dell m6600 bios for support new graphic cards?

$

Now if you want to install new GPU you simply can't or you need to install special vbios.

but...

""It's not about vBIOS mod at all. I've deeply investigated into this problem not so long ago and the problem is in extremely bad engineered ACPI table of the system BIOS. Idk why Dell didn't fix it during 16 BIOS updates, but this garbage in ACPI table don't allow us to use any nvidia cards based on Kepler and higher. As for AMD, any cards will work fine, but Embedded controller can't read GPU temps and, due to this, don't control GPU fan. Kepler and newer card are working under Linux with ACPI off (what leads too no power control features - freqs on GPU and CPU stay the same all the time). I see no hope that Dell will fix it any time soon (probably never) and the only thing that might help is to find some smart BIOS engineer and try to solve the problem.

The funniest thing is that my 9 years old Core 2 Duo Acer laptop works without any problems with M2000M and GTX 965m... HP Elitebook workstations have no problem either.""

So will dell fix this, and users be able to upgrade their laptops? Or dell want us to buy WHOLE NEW laptops so their can make more money (planned obsolescence)?

Alienware 15 R2 plugged in, not charging

Short story:

In the morning I was on the battery. Later I saw "35% available (plugged in, not charging)". Unplug the laptop, everything died, power button doesn't work, plug the power back, start the laptop and see this:

Press F2 and check the bios:

Check the "Main" Tab, at the power adapter is recognised, it only says 240W.

Went on Dell's support website, I did a battery test. I passed?!?!  [Photo]

Did a motherboard test. I passed again... [Photo]

I did a full test and everything passes the test.

Help! My laptop doesn't work without the power cord being plugged and the warranty expired 1 month ago...

Here is a battery report created by Windows 10 [Click]

Long Story:

[spoiler]

In the morning I was on the battery working and stuff. After some time the battery light started to flash (low battery under 20%), I went to get the charger, plug it into the wall and plug it into the laptop. And I saw that it is shut down. I was thinking that it went to sleep. Plugged the power cord, start the laptop. back to work.

Later. Went home, plug the power cord into the laptop, power it on, play games (with cooling pad). Exit game, check notifications, see that the battery icon is not full, put the mouse over: "35% available (plugged in, not charging)". Unplug the laptop, to see what the **** is happening, everything died (like cutting a computer power). Press the power button. Nothing. Press again and listen for the hard drive. Nothing. The guy inside of me who spent £1500 on a laptop just died.

Plug the power cord, press the button and I see the first photo (check up) went into the bios, everything looked fine instead of the battery health. I started the laptop and I went on Dell's website, checked my warranty which expired 1 month ago, went to support to make the battery test, motherboard test and after a full test. You can find some photos about these in the short story. But everything went fine with the test.

In the morning the battery was fine, I never had problems with it and I never let the laptop plugged over the night but now is dead without power.

[/spoiler]

Troubleshoot:

If the tests didn't work, I went on google and start to read.

I uninstalled the Microsoft AC Adaptor and Microsoft ACPI from Device Manager and after I scanned the computer for changes to allow the Windows to reinstall these drivers. Nothing changed the situation.

In short time I will open the back of the laptop and unplug the battery, hold the power button to clear all the electricity and plug the battery back.

Inspiron 3542 and PS2 keyboard

My desktop 'died' and now I have to use this laptop. The desktop had a nice keyboard and I would prefer to use that keyboard on the laptop. Here are the keyboard details:

Logitech - Internet Pro keyboard

Model Name: Y-SZ49

P/N: 867449-0403

It is PS/2 . Can I simply add a PS/2 to USB adaptor and use it ? How is the Inspiron 3542 configured to cater for a larger keyboard ?

How do I get rid of this screen problem by myself without repairs?

There is this VERY bad display problem that makes things unnoticable.  It happens when I accidentally touch the screen.  It also usually fixes if I restart the laptop or touch the screen again.  This is different and much worse, instead of distorting the screen....  It's hard to describe but it's kind of like the bars you see on TVs, the color ones.
