Storage Space?

$
0
0

Apologies if this isn't in the right area.

I recently got help from a brilliant guy on this site about reinstalling Windows 10.

Prior to doing this my Laptop seemed to always lack storage space! It has storage of about 30GB which I know isn't a lot, but it seems that 26GBs has already been taken up by god knows what!

And every time I turn on the computer and use it (general browsing) the memory storage gets lower and stops apps from running!

Can anyone give a look in to why? I've used programs to locate large files but it seems I need the files that aren't huge!

Any help?

My warranty begins next year

Hello, I am not sure of what's going on. I was going to contact Dell Tech Support but the page said I was out of warranty. I was confused because I bought my laptop back in March. I know I bought it when it was 1099$ (and I bought it before Dell has corrected the typo in the flyer, that GTX1060 6GB was too good to be true) and it came with a free 1 year in-home warranty. But now that I look on my product support page, I see that my warranty is due to begin next year, March 12. Weird, I thought warranties were supposed to begin with your purchase.

What I think happened is that at checkout, I bought a 2-year warranty extension, also in-home. So someone corrected that recently and revoked the initial warranty. This is fairly, hum, unfair. I'd like to know if somebody at Dell could reactivate my warranty please?

Device: Inspiron 15 7567

Service tag: 7WWLY2F

Also, this was the question I was going to ask: I cleaned the lid of the laptop (where's the Dell logo) with a soft cloth (the kind you use for screens) and parts of the lid came off. I was cleaning it very gently and the device is always being carried in a padded suitcase for 15.6'' laptops. Is this covered by my warranty?

Finally I also wanted to know: Is the M.2 SSD slot PCIe capable? I know some i5-7567 are sold with an NVMe SSD so I'd like to know if I can upgrade that. And can I upgrade my Wireless-AC 3815 to a 8260/8265?

Precision 5510 (Realtek Audio) - Windows 10 - Mouse & Keyboard Stutter

Common problem reported on the internet, when using an external mouse and/or keyboard on my Precision 5510 which uses Realtek Audio and USB drivers, the mouse stutters and the keyboard also stutters in that if I am typing when the issue occurs, the keyboard thinks my last key is still depressed and it looks like "thissssssssssssssss"

This happens every 5 to 20 seconds, and makes the device simply unusable. The problem occurs in all of these scenarios:

  • Blue Tooth Mouse
  • USB wireless mouse/keyboard connected to the laptop's USB port or to a Dell docking station
  • Occurs with both the thunderbolt Dell docking station, and the USB3 model (I use both, one at work, one at home office)
  • Occurs with a wired mouse as well

Laptop is pretty much out of the box, all updated with Dell's recommended software upgrades and patches. Problem got exponentially worse after upgrading to latest bios on 8/1/17.

Searching tech forums suggests a conflict with the Realtek drivers. I was able to temporarily resolve the issue by uninstalling the Realtek USB and Audio drivers, but then my sound does not behave correctly - system won't recognize my headphone jack nor my external speakers connected to either docking station. After a couple of reboots, Windows re-installs the driver again and the issue returns.

Please help, willing to send any diagnostics necessary. The device is effectively useless in this condition unless I use the on-board keyboard and mouse which defeats the purpose of my docking station and external monitors.

Thank you.

Dell XT2 1.6 GZH motherboard--official part number

After eight years the motherboard on my Dell XT2 appears to have died. I have the 1.4 GZH version but since I am replacing it I might as well up-grade to the 1.6 GZH version. However, I am having trouble locating the official part number for that item so I can order the correct part. There appears to be different part numbers depending on whether it is XT, XT2, XT XFR, etc. I am assuming the the two motherboards are interchangable since the only difference is the 1.4 vs 1.6 GZH.

So what is the offical part number for the Dell XT2 1.6 gzh motherboard?

Backlight Keyboard

New Precision 7510 Laptop and the backlit keyboard shuts off and on by itself when not bein used.  Freaking annoying.  It doesn't seem to have a pattern to it or be because of any motion.  I just want it to stay on the entire time I use my computer.  I do not care about battery life.  This computer does not have the Keyboard settings in mobility that others have said try and no other settings in the keyboard menu.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Customer Service call misinformation (Dell XPS 15 9550)

I bought a Dell Xps 15 last year from the Dell Canada website and recently noticed that my trackpad was raised above its original resting point, an issue which has been reported on this forum before.

I called customer support about it but well my warranty ran out a few months ago. When I brought up the issue of the trackpad, the agent said that Dell needed to replace the trackpad. However I had looked online about this issue and found multiple post attributing this issue to the battery swelling. However, the agent told me the battery of the Dell xps model I had was under the keyboard, and would not cause issues with the trackpad. I reiterated what I saw online, also stating that there were answers on the dell forums approved by moderators which stated the issue was battery swelling.

The agent persisted in saying how they somehow had a different model, but said that Dell could also replace the battery for me if I sent it to them. This operation would cost me around 400-500 CAD (don't remember exact number).

At this point, I was starting to believe him because he is after all a worker for Dell and the xps line should be a flagship line where they have good knowledge of the laptop. He said that if the battery was swelling, the bottom portion of the screen would also swell, which I observed is not the case. As such I thought it was just an issue with the trackpad, and decided to let it go, since I wasn't about to go spend 500$ to repair a still functional trackpad. What had me worried in the first place was battery swelling and exploding.

Today, as I was browsing youtube videos I saw a guide on how to replace the trackpad and when I watched it, the battery on this dell xps 15 model that seems identical to mine is under the trackpad. Somehow along the long conversation with the agent, I had forgotten about the simple fact that there was no way for the battery to be under the keyboard since there are fans there.

Now considerably frustrated at Dell Canada's support, with whom I had bad experiences prior to this too, I've come here to vent it out a litter and ask for some advice. With this being misinformation about something that can potentially be a safety hazard, is there any way for me to get some sort of compensation such as a replacement battery? And if that is not the case, does someone know of a reliable source for a 56whr replacement battery for xps 15 9550 that ships to Canada?

Sorry for the really long post but I'm just really disappointed right now at my experience with a high end product with a high price tag that turned so sour.

(By the way, does Dell record phone conversations with their call centers because that's my only proof for this happening)

Currently laptop, after pressing power button, running for 1-2 seconds and turning off, does not even show up "post" (dell logo

I already earlier used this key sequenction, to do that, but i forgot, so now i searching that again, but i can't find.

It was something like a:

"press tab button, left arrow, left arrow, right arrow, enter, right arrow etc.."

It's looking funny, but it works (I already did it early)

Please help me, thanks

Dell Inspiron N5110 is overheating

Hello, So I have got a Dell inspiron N5110 with an i7 intel core in 2013, and I don't remember opening it, falling from me or even giving it to a child. Yesterday I noticed that it is overheating through a tempreature reader software, I just did this test because I noticed it heated only after ten minutes from opening it; anyways, I noticed that it reaches 81 degrees celcius in just 10 minutes from opening it and this was very dangerous, so I tried to fix it by doing the following:-

1- Decreasing the "Maximum proccesor state".
2- Shutting down the laptop and removing SD cards, USBs, the battery and the charger and pressing the power button for 20 seconds.
3- I scanned for malwares using "Malware bytes 12" and viruses using "ESET NOD32 Antivirus 9" and the laptop was absolutely maleware and virus FREE.
4- I ran the CPU diagnostics and I didn't have any errors.
5- I tried buying a new charger.
6- I tried using the laptop without the battery.

And after all of these attempts, nothing happens, so I want anybody to try and help me out.

Thank You,

When I turn on my 4-year-old laptop from sleep mode, it won't turn on until I pop the battery out and put it back in. Should I replace the battery? I'm having no other problems. I always work with it plugged in to AC.

Has been working with Dell support for the past one month to resolve intermittent SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED - bcmpciedhd63.sys blue screen of death (BSOD)  issue.  So far what we have done:

- re-install Windows 10 twice (tried both; flash from BIOS and USB drive)
- perform CPU, Stress CPU, Graphic, Stress Graphic, Memory, Stress Memory, Motherboard diagnostics test
- Replace motherboard twice
- Replace wireless card once

Anyone has encounter this issue before and how does you manage to resolve it? I have also tried to retrieve the BSOD minidump and send to the support team (hope it will be useful to them):

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.
Arguments:
Arg1: ffffffffc0000005, The exception code that was not handled

Used online chat and 2 x phone calls to tech help. No suggestions from them yet on how to fix the problem on 2 week old new laptop.  USB came from my old Dell Inspiron, came out of port easily and went into new port easily, but cannot be removed.

XPS 15 touchpad scrolling not optimal

I have a new XPS 15 9560 laptop with a precision touchpad (Microsoft drivers) running Windows 10 (1703, 64-bit). The touchpad generally works fine, but with two-finger scrolling sometimes I experience a 0.5 s lag OR the pad interprets the gesture as a pointer move (although I definitely use 2 fingers). The behavior is seemingly random, but it occurs quite often.

I disabled "pinch to zoom" in settings. I also tried increasing the touchpad sensitivity in settings and reducing the APPThreshold in the registry to 0 (Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PrecisionTouchPad), but this didn't help.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Many thanks,
Geert
