XPS 15 9550 - BIOS 1.2.29 makes WD15 unusable

Hi!

Today I've upgraded my BIOS to the latest recommended version by SupportAssist that is to 1.2.29. Also today's update comes with new version of ASMedia USB Extended Host Controller Driver.

Once I installed them I've got unwanted results:
- My peripheral devices connected to WD15 aren't responsive, it looks like a connection with them is broken occasionally.
- BIOS doesn't recognize USB-C Charger (180W), and it claims that either it has 60W or aaaW, it warns that charging is disabled.

Solution what works for me was to downgrade BIOS to 1.2.25 version from: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/DriversDetails?productCode=xps-15-9550-laptop&driverId=3W30W

@Dell Support: Please let me (us) know if this is known issue for 9550 (I've seen so far that there's a problem with 9360 after BIOS bump).

Cheers,
Piotr

DELL E7480 BIOS update 1.5.2 causes SERIOUS PROBLEMS to Thunderbolt (USB-C) Docking

This update caused me:

1) Lagging of mouse cursor and wireless keyboard connected via docking stand DS1000

2) Popping/crackling sound from Dell soundbar AC511 connected via DS1000

3) Random interruptions of Ethernet via DS1000

I tried to update or change related drivers, change DS1000 for another HW without any success.

BIOS DOWNGRADE to previous 1.4.6 FIXED all above.

1.5.2 should be fixed immediately since it contains serious bugs.

XPS 15 9560 Freezes During Mid-Game (DOTA2) and Charging. What can be the issue?

Hi all,

Excuse me but I'm not the most computer literate person either.

XPS Model : i5-7300HQ, 8GB 2400MHz, 256GB, GTX 1050

Game running: DOTA 2 at standard video/setting.

I got this laptop a couple weeks ago (2.5 maybe now?) and I've been playing DOTA 2 and using it for normal stuff like web browsing, spotify, youtube, etc. Not much issues besides this one I encountered last night. I did freeze once when I was using spotify/web browsing but I took that up as an update or something going on in the background.

Note: I do know that the XPS15 is not a gaming laptop and it will drain the battery rather quickly if I choose to play games on it.

My concern is that when I'm charging the XPS15 while playing DOTA 2, it does get rather hot and the fan gets pretty loud. The problem that arose yesterday is that I was in the middle of a game and midway through when there's a lot of action going on in the screen the screen would freeze for a couple seconds.

Is this a hardware issue? Is it the usage spiking up to 100%? Is it overheating?

Just wondering if anyone have any suggestion as to what the issue might be because DOTA 2 is not the most graphic intensive game. Plus, I don't think I received a XPS15 lemon from Dell and have already put my skin and stuff on it so I don't want to even have imagine having to return it due to quality control.

Thanks,
SC

Battery Discharges While Gaming

Hi there, I've got an Alienware 15 R2 that I bought 2 years ago. Everything worked fine until about 6 months ago when the battery began disconnecting and rapidly discharging (about 2hrs from full to shutdown) whenever I open any games.

I've searched everywhere for a solution. Diagnostics show battery health to be fine, I've tried different charging cables (mine is currently 240w and was the cable I received with the laptop) and I've attempted to reduce all processes to the bare minimum.

My fiance and I bought a matching pair of laptops and the other seems to work without issue. The only notable difference we've found was my BIOS having been updated recently while the other is an older version.

Alienware 15 R3 - Heat Analysis - Urgent Help

Hi Guys,

I desperately need your help. After months of thinking, 2 days ago I have bought Dell Alienware 15 R3, i7 7700HQ, GTX 1070, 32 GB Ram and 15.6 FHD.

I found it quite hot when playing games so I suspected it has some heating issues, so I took some stress tests and played game for a while and below are the results.
I would highly appreciate if you go through below screenshots and give your expert opinion as I have only 7 days before I can go to shop for exchange or to fix this one.

Below are the test results of stress using Prime95, OCCT, Intel Stress Test and 3 games:

Higher Capacity SSD for Inspiron 15 5577

I recently (a week ago) received a new Inspiron 15, 5577 with a 256 GB SSD - a Sandisk X400 M2 type.  Question is, will this accept a standard SATA SSD, such as a Samsung EVO 850?   As its still "new" I'm not going to open it to find out.  The Dell documentation shows both the M2 and a standard hard drive.  But, is the hardware (SATA connectors) there for a "standard size" SSD?  Maybe I need to upgrade the M2 drive to higher capacity? but I'd rather use a Samsung EVO 850.

I plan on using this in my recording studio and 256GB is not enough.

Thanks/Jack

Power conservation issue with i5-5300u in Latitude E7450

$

Prior to re-installing Windows 10 on my E7450 last week, my processor (i5-5300u) would automatically clock down to 499 MHz at 0.6 watts, while idling.  After re-installing the OS and applying the same drivers from Dell Support that I was running prior to the reload, the processor will not go below 798 MHz or 1.5 - 1.8 watts, which means it now consumes roughly 3x more power at idle.  This change in behavior is complemented by a marked decrease in overall battery life (estimated as well as actual).

Prior to the OS reload, with CPU usage limited to 20%, clock speed limited to 500 MHz, and display brightness at the lowest level, the system would estimate up to 12 hours of idle time on a full battery.  Afterward, the most it estimates is roughly 8 hours.  Actual usage times are far less, dropping from around 10 hours prior to the reload to 6 or so hours after the reload.  No changes to the hardware configuration or BIOS have been made, and the battery's capacity/health has remained at 98.6%.

Oddly, when set to a power profile in which the processor power is more limited when the system is running on battery power, immediately after unplugging the AC adapter, the clock speed momentarily drops to 499 MHz, then increases to 798 MHz, where it remains.  Additionally, when running Ubuntu 17.04 from the same SSD, the system estimates over 13 hours of runtime while idling, indicating the loss in power conservation capability is related to my installation of Windows, and not the BIOS or hardware.  I've tried both the drivers from Dell, as well as those provided automatically by Windows Update.

I'm doubtful that anyone will have any definitive answers, as I've thoroughly searched both Intel's and Dell's support communities as well as the internet in general with no luck, but I'm optimistic someone will at least have some ideas for me to pursue or information to consider.

Feel free to share any thoughts you have or observations you've made related to your own system's power conservation/consumption, as long as it involves an Intel processor.  Thanks!

After too many hour of searching please help. I have the Inspiron 15 7559 with mother board model 0H0CC0 revision A00. It has an "M" keyed slot with an "M" and "B" slotted SSD (SanDisk Z400s M.2 2280 128GB). I purchased a Samsung 960 Evo NVME drive at the suggestion of a local retailer. Will it work? Or does this slot only support SATA3? Thank you in advance for your help.

Inspiron17R SE 7200

I have an Inspiron 17R SE 7200

As you know it has 2 drive bays.

I have long ago upgraded the secondary drive bay to SSD, which I use as the primary boot drive. (Drive C)

I was wondering, can I use the primary drive (1TB regular drive) with msata 32gb cache still (Drive D) ?

How would I configure that?

I have windows 10

don't have the original DVDs that came with the laptop

I also have a USB 3 mechanical drive (G), I was wondering if I could also configure the cache for both D and G ? it is especially super slow when I access G after I haven't accessed it in some time. (warm up time is slow)

Dell Inspiron 11 3148 usb port failure

I upgraded my dell inspiron 11 3148 hdd to an ssd. This laptop has 2 usb ports on its left and 1 on the right. So i am assuming the single port on the right is USB 3.0. Point to be noted is that the hdd caddy is right beside the usb 3.0 port. All was fine when the hard drive was being used.

The day i upgraded to the ssd, the usb 3.0 port has stopped reading anything, it shows Code 43 in the device manager. Now I've tried all possible software solutions avaliable on the internet for fixing a code 43 like bios reinstall etc. I've even done a clean reinstallatin of the OS again but to no avail. When i insert any usb device, it just makes the connected sound, but gives the error ' usb not recognised' and a code 43 in device manager with statements: 'Device Descriptor Request Failed', 'Port Reset Failed' .

Now i read that code 43 also happens because of some power issue. So now i am inclined towards thinking that the ssd is taking more power from the motherboard than the hdd. What do you think is it this or something else?

Please give me your advice. Thanks!

DELL 06X37M A00 Motherboard - RAM Upgrade

I have a DELL Laptop that's running on Intel Core i5 3337U, I feel the system is running slow for the past few days once I try running the VMWare to run Ubuntu. I would prefer to upgrade the RAM, if that helps in better speed and processing. At present I have a 4 GB RAM

Could you please suggest me the maximum RAM supported for DELL 06X37M A00 Motherboard and the MAX frequency that it can clock.

Also suggestions on which brand of RAM to use for the upgrade would also be very helpful.

Note: CPU-Z screenshots attached for more information.

Inspiron 500 series hibernating

I have had this laptop less than a year and it continues to experience problems. It is slow, laggy, and now it has taken to going into hibernation even though it is plugged in and set to never go to sleep if plugged in.

Has anyone else experienced this? I am running Windows 10 that was pre installed.

This is my second and last Dell machine. My 1st machine is over 10 years old, running windows xp and still runs like a charm. This one I have had multiple issues and because the warranty does not cover these issues I can no longer recommend Dell as a stable product.

Dell Inspiron 17 7737 RAM upgrade

Hi! I recently upgraded the RAM in my laptop to 16GB, however it's only showing 12GB. I double-checked the specifications and 16 is the maximum that it can run. I've performed all updates (including the BIOS) but it doesn't increase. I also ran hardware diags and everything passed with no problems. The BIOS only shows 12 available as well. I'm at a loss, does anyone have any suggestions?

Service tag not in system for ThunderBolt Dock 16

I can't update my dock since it gives an error every time I try to update. I tried manual updates but BIOS files never show up, I think the problem lies with my service code not being in the system.

I tried entering the service tag and express service tag but it says it's not a valid product. If I provide the service tag and express service tag on this forum, would it be entered in the system so to speak? I also get critical updates and when I click update, an error occurs so my dock is not in sync with my XPS in terms of drivers. When I try to do manual updates, I'm only given 3 files and can't find bios files anywhere.

Dell inspiron 15R 7520 SSD configuration issue

Hello,

I have Dell inspiron 15R 7520 with the following specifications:

* HDD : Seagate Barracuda 2TB 6Gb/s
* SSD : Samsung mSATA 32GB SSD
* OS   : Windows 10 Enterpriise x64 Creator Update

My problem is that when i install a fresh copy of windows 8.1 or 10, i stuck in configuring my SSD drive to work as a cash drive via Intel Rapid Storage Technology software.

Every time i configure my BIOS - SATA operation : Intel Smart Response Technology and begin to boot to Windows 10 my laptop freezes at the one of the most famous BSOD :

(INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE)

But if i configured my BIOS - SATA operation : AHCI. My laptop boots successfully in normal mode (No Intel Rapid Storage Technology configuration)

Another problem, when i deal with Intel Rapid Storage Technology GUI then tab to (Performance) i found no SSD drive to configure like that :

So what problem i am involved in? to restore my laptop working with Intel Rapid Storage Technology enabled.

Thanks for any effort.

Are there already XPS 13" touchscreen models which are matte?

Can anybody please tell if there are already XPS 13" models that have a touchscreen (QHD or FHD) that is matte, anti-reflective? If so, please post a direct link to it if possible. I can only find touchscreen models which are reflective which is extremely annoying when I sit near a window because of light reflection.

If those don't exist yet, please also let me know so that I know. Thanks in advance.
