Precision M4800 laptop: sudden shutdowns and freezes upon movement.

Lately, my Precision M4800 laptop (service tag: CDHXM12), has been suddenly, and unprompted, been shutting down if I move it, like say picking it up a few inches off the table.  A similar problem happens if the Laptop is bumped or moved slightly, such as if my elbow bumps into it, or a turn or push it a inch or so too quickly, the screen will freeze up, with a bunch of randomly blinking rectangular tears appearing all over the screen, not to mention that it crashes at the same time.  Otherwise the Laptop runs like normal, I notice no performance issues or overheating, just that it has become extremely motion sensitive, so that, unless it is on a perfectly flat and stable surface, there is a good chance, even just on my lap, the a small motion will cause it to crash.  The Laptop is still under Warranty.

DELL INSPIRON 15 takes a long time to get to Dell Logo

Hey Folks,

I have a Dell 15 5559 laptop with a 500gb SSD & 8gb ram.

It works fine only for the boot up. It takes about 9 seconds to get to the Dell Logo from the moment I press the power button. After that it boots fine.

Considering the spec of the laptop, this boot time is terrible. When I contacted dell support they just said that they don't guarantee boot times.

From the research I have done, the problem lies with the bios. (I have the most up to date bios)

Has anybody found any fix for this?

thanks in advance

Dell XPS 13 can't keep a charge

Hey all,

My laptop is over a year old now. It's the 9350, running Ubuntu for the last three months. Windows is no longer installed.

Since yesterday, the battery percentage is stuck on 3%. It doesn't go any higher or lower. However, as soon as the power cord is unplugged, it shuts down. It can't even stay on without being plugged in.

I ran diagnostics and it says the battery and power adaptor are in excellent health, but it shows the battery as idle and not getting charged.

Not sure what to do... I am not particularly savvy, but any help is greatly appreciated.

XPS 9550 Swollen battery & touchpad!

For the past two weeks, I couldn't easily click with my touchpad but I didn't really care much cuz I am using a mouse. Meanwhile, my new wifi card, Intel 8265, came in today and while changing the card I noticed that my battery is swallowed! (see https://imgur.com/a/Dt1NS)

When I searched on Reddit I noticed that my touchpad problem is related to the battery and many other users are reporting the same problem that I have.

My laptop is out of the warranty but it is clearly a manufacturing defect. I barely used my laptop on the battery and most of the time my charger was plugged in. I have done the routine battery calibration each month.I had other laptops in the past and usage was extreme on them but the battery stayed good for about 3 years at least. This laptop is only 15 months old and there is no excuse for a battery to be swollen on a regular use.

At least I contacted 5 Dell support guys( by phone and chat) but they are saying this is out-of-warranty and I need to buy it. This is a serious safety issue and Dell should be responsible for it. Users are traveling with these laptops and there is a potential threat to explode in places like planes.

Dell E-Port Replicator Docking Station

It looks like all the new Dell Latitude laptops are not compatible with the E-Port Replicator Docking Stations. Is there any solution to be able to still use them as a docking station on the new Latitudes such as using a usb port instead of the pins?

Attempting to install CentOS on Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop; claims Hardware Error

I have a dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming. I want to replace the windows OS with Linux (CentOS) to be exact.

I have a installation disc I used to install it. I've already used said disc to install CentOS on a ProBook 4540s and the disc worked great. I am using an external optical drive.

Anyhow, the disc is not working for the Inspiron. First the message stating "press any key to enter the menu" comes up, with the options 1) CentOS 6.8 2) Install system with basic video driver 3) rescue. Regardless of what I select I get this:

Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 240x67
fb0: EFI VGA buffer device
APCI: AC Adapter [AC] (on-line)
input: Lid Switch as devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/PNP0C0D:00/input/input0
APCI: LIid Switch [LID0}
...
APCI: Executed 1 blocks of module-level executable AML code
APCI: SSDT 000000007837b718 00651 (v02 PmRef Cpu0Ist 0003000 INTL 20160422)

Then I get repeating messages (repeats once very 30 seconds) such as:

CODE: eb 06 41 89 F4 48 85 ...
Call Trace:
[<ffffffff813163a7>] ? acpi_ns_exec_module_code_list+0xe2/0x143

[<ffffffff813163a7>] ? kernel_init+0x0/0x2f7
[<ffffffff813163a7>] ? child_rip+0x0/0x20

(I can provide the lines in between if requested) And occasionally I get messages at the bottom such as:

[Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged log location
disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint
switching to clocksource tsc

I've tried putting the disc contents on a flashdrive and the same thing happens. I don't understand the hardware error claim; the same disc and optical drive worked for the other machine.

HELP!!!! Laptop REFUSES to turn on, NOTHING WORKS !!!!

Hi, everyone!!! I'm so worried... My Dell Inspiron 15R is refusing to turn on! I tried to reformat after the laptop began to lag... but then it gave me an error message saying that my personal data could not be removed (I've never gotten this message before).

After, I attempted to reformat once again and the laptop told me that it failed to reformat! Then once again I tried to reformat and the error message from before came back, that my personal data could not be removed.

I attempted a manual restart but pushing on the power button and my laptop wouldn't turn on!

Please help!

What I've tried to do so far:

1. holding down the power button without the battery pack/cord to drain its power before trying to turn it on again

2. using different battery AND cord from a similar laptop

3. testing both the battery and cord

4. pressing/holding down function+power button

Please, guys, I'm desperate!

I have work on my laptop I don't know what to do!

The wattage and type of the AC adapter cannot be determined

I am getting this error message. My battery is not charging. And it is clocking my cpu speed to 0.5 GHz. I heard that there is a pin in the DC jack that tells a chip on the computer to tell the computer that the AC adapter is not suitable (whether damage or low wattage). I'm wondering if there is a way to disable the chip and just use it at full speed, I don't really need a battery because I'm mainly on AC use anyways.

Touch Screen has stopped working on Dell Inspiron 15R-5537

My touch screen on my Dell laptop has not been working for over a year. I cannot recall if there was a specific update/change which triggered the touch screen to stop working, however it has now been over a year and I have no idea why it isn't working.

I have tried:

1. Restarting laptop

2. Troubleshooting hardware and devices

3. Disabling/enabling HID-Compliant Touch Screen driver (the driver only appears when I show hidden devices. I cannot enable it and  when I try to update it, it says it is already up to date). Also, when I click on properties for the driver , it says "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45) To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer."

4. Uninstalling/reinstalling HID-Compliant Touch Screen driver. This results in the driver being completely deleted and does not return when I restart the computer.

I don't think I can do a restore as it stopped working so long ago, I wouldn't know what date to restore it to.

Tablet PC Settings are also saying that "No pen or touch input is available for this display"

So I am trying to play a game that functions on one of my graphics options, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M, but doesn't work with my HD Graphics 530. I have seen a ton of people who have full on crashes that happen when they turn off their onboard video card but I don't know if this applies to my integrated graphics. I tried having the program use only the GTX but it still crashes upon start up everytime I try it. Does anyone have any idea what this issue is? Is this the kind of thing that will result in me having to apply my warranty or can i fix this myself?

E6530 Sata II or Sata III connector

In regards to previous askers I also need to know what SSD can I connect to my E6530.

1. http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19483938

2. http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19616508

The Dell official specs sheet does not show any SATA III support?

http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/latit/dell_latitude_e6530_spec_sheet.pdf

Therefore let me ask again. Does Dell E6530 support SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) or only SATA II (3.0 Gb/s)?

Thank you  in advance!

Tingling electrical sensation on XPS 13 and some electric shocks.

Hello dear support forums!

I recently got a new XPS 13 laptop, which is amazing!

The only thing that makes me worry is that when it is charging, the entire laptop is tingling with a kind of static electricity feeling, like a tingling all over, even when closed.

The corners of the laptop also give a small electric shock sometimes.

I am using the original adapter that came with the laptop (45w). I tried this in many sockets in various houses, and it's always the same problem.

Any solutions? And is it dangerous for the laptop inner hardware such as HD that could be ruined by this electrical issue? It is worrying.

Thank you.

Hi

I have an Inspiron 15R5520, which runs on 48Wh battery, 8848x. I want to replace it with T54FJ, which is a 60Wh battery and can fit in inspiron, for operating the laptop on battery for longer hours.  Both the batteries give an output of 11.1V

Can  I use T54FJ or should I go with 8848x?

I would like to hear from the users who have done the same.

Thank you

Hello guys,

I'm planning in these upcoming 2 weeks to buy a new laptop. I've been reading about the XPS's and they are awesome! But people are complaining due to that there are a lot of issues in them like freezing, lagging, and audio problems. I've thought about it a lot and I'm starting to re-think whether I should buy an XPS or not. Since you guys are dell users please help me. I'm planning on buying the XPS 15 non-touch 16 GB RAM, Core i7, 512 SSD but I'm having doubts on them.

After receiving 3 different 9560's, I got a working one in April.  Yeah!  However, now the rubber foot on the bottom of laptop is coming out(from the middle).  Dell, in there infinite foolish behavior refuses to send me a new rubber foot.  I have premium support, paid a hefty price for computer, and this is the way they treat their customer.  Astonishing.  I will not pay my DFS account.  The shoe will be on the other foot.

Windows 10 CU, no fingerprint option under Windows Hello; Unable to install DDP due to missing KB3081448

Hi, I'm bit lost and even Dell support is not capable of helping me. Here is the problem:

Windows > Settings > Accounts > Sign-In options > Windows Hello:
there is no option for fingerprint. Only available sign-in option is Face recognition, which works.

I have already tried many things, without any success.

1) Installation of Dell Data Protection tool fails with this error:
---------------------------
Dell Data Protection | Security Tools - InstallShield Wizard
---------------------------
The required Microsoft KB3081448 or equivalent is missing. This is required for software and drivers to work correctly. Please, install this and then retry. Aborting install.

- Windows is up to date
- Dell drivers are up to date (Dell Command Update)
- Attempt to install KB3081448 manually fails with following error:

Windows Update Standalone Installer

The update is not applicable to your computer.

2) Tweak Group policies:
Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components...

    • ... other options left: Not configured
  • Windows Hello for Business
    • Use biometrics: Enabled
    • Use Windows Hello for Business: Enabled

3) Update of TPM driver to version: 1.3.2.8

4) Re-install of Dell Control Vault 2 driver

5) Runnig commands:

  • sfc /ScanNow
  • dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

... without any error.

I can see in Device Manager successfully installed devices:
- Biometric devices/Control Vault w/ Fingerprint Touch Sensor
- ControlVault Device/Dell ControlVault w/ Fingerprint Touch Sensor
- Security devices/Trusted Platform Module 2.0

Device/OS specs:
- Windows 10 Pro (Creators Update) 1703, OS Build: 15063.502, 64 bit
