System: Dell Inspiron 5557

Bios: from 1.2.4 to 1.2.5

Everything went fine when updating BIOS. After, no video (dell splash screen), no video on entering BIOS. But If I turn on the machine and let it boot, after windows loads, video start working.

No lucky on ctrl+esc or entering the bios (I cant see anything at all). All bios strategies not working. I tried to downgrade bios inside windows 10, but it still persists on 1.2.5.

Help me please!

[Dell 14R 5437] Right-Click and Double-Tap to Right Click on Touchpad Not Working

Can anyone please help me figure out the solution to this? My Dell 14R 5437's touchpad isn't properly working lately. It's right-click button and double-tap to right click function isn't working as intended; the left-click button and single-tap to left click function is working ok. When plugging an external mouse, however, I can right click as normal.

I tried reinstalling the driver from the Dell website and it's still not working properly. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

lattitude e7470 freezes or worse when program has hardware acceleration turned on

My lattitude e7470 recently had the mother board replaced under warranty due to a BSOD problem. That fixed the BSOD, but now it freezes for a few seconds every few minutes or the screen goes haywire (looks all jaggy and unreadable) if I run a program without adjusting the program's settings to disable hardware acceleration.

Specifically MS office 13 freezes for a few seconds roughly every 5-10 minutes unless I go into the MS Office settings and turn off hardware acceleration. Google Chrome offers a combination of similar brief freezes and less frequent incidents where the screen suddenly becomes unreadable. Interestingly when the screen goes haywire, it only affects the webpage part of the window, the tabs at the top of the window and any portion of the Windows desktop in the background look fine. Again, delving into the settings for chrome and turning off hardware acceleration solves the problem.

While turning off hardware acceleration in the programs settings seems to be a fix, I have a number of critical programs that don't have this setting and therefore continue to be plagued by freezing.

For the record this is windows 10 and the machine has intel integrated graphics.

I have updated all my drivers repeatedly based on the automated suggestions fro the Dell website, run the ePSA diagnostics and the diagnostics on the dell support website (all passed), and tried various other things.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Could this be a hardware problem? Should I be getting drivers from somewhere else? Is there a way to turn off hardware acceleration for all programs by default (couldn't find one by googling).

Thanks!

Inspiron 15 5547 Hinge problem

I didn't quite find an answer, so I'm asking here. Has Dell compensated anyone for the design flaw with the Inspiron 15 5547 regarding the hinges? I opened my laptop this morning, and lo and behold, my palm rest is cracked. This will be the fourth one that has cracked. Three replaced by Dell under warranty, and the last by myself as my warranty expired.

At this point, I see no reason to replace the palm rest again, as it's just going to break again. At what point do you stop dumping money into this thing?

Recovery OS Tools Update

Dell Update is telling me there's an update ready every time I turn on my computer. If I click install now, it says SupportAssist OS Recovery was installed (having seemingly done nothing, though) and then it will ask me again the very next time I turn on my computer. It's just going in circles.

Inspiron 5552 will not start up - 7 beeps - still under warrant per Dell site

I did some general googling and it appears as though it is processor related.  I tried removing the battery and power cord, holding power for 30 seconds and then plugging back in but no changes.  7 beeps over and over again with no change.  This should be covered by warranty, correct?

dell inspiron 15 gaming 7567 non-stop fan noise coming from bottom right vent of computer

I got a new dell gaming laptop less than 2 months ago. Yesterday I turned on my computer and noticed that even when the actual fans were making almost no noise, there was still a fairly loud and irritating sound coming from the right side of my computer. After listening to it to see where it was coming from, it seems like the source is the right bottom vent, but I'm not 100% sure. Also, I'm running windows 10 and just now updated the BIOS.

Alienware 15R2 Battery Failure

Hi there,

I was on my laptop earlier with everything working fine and realised that my battery wasn't charging above 51%.

It says it is plugged in but "not charging".

So i played around "Desktop mode battery change" to see if this solved the problem and as soon as i removed the power cord my laptop switched straight off. I plugged the power cord back in and was met with the message saying that my battery had a permanent failure and needed replacing.

Ive read other posts about this and people suggest updating the bios is this an option to fix it?

My warranty ran out last month so not sure what i can do?

Any idea

Thanks

Dell Inspiron 7567 Battery Not Charging

Hi all,

I purchased a Dell inspiron 7567 laptop in mid to late January of this year. After a couple months, I had an issue with the battery not charging. I contacted support and searched different solutions, and all of them said to remove the battery and restart the laptop, then reinstall the battery. This worked temporarily. I had the problem again not long after, but again the solution worked. Recently, however, the problem has resurfaced. I've tested every solution I can find, I've contacted support and tried their solution, and nothing has worked. When I boot up the system and look at the bios, the AC adapter is recognized and working. When I look at the battery in the Dell Power Manager, it is confirmed to be a Dell battery. The health of the battery states unknown, and I've read that this could mean that the battery itself is bad, but since this problem has occurred before saying the same thing and then later been resolved and since the system is only 6 months old, I have a difficult time believing that the battery is bad. There is a BIOS update I can download, but with the system at 0% there is no way to install it without risk to the laptop. Dell support has told me I will need to send it in for repairs and pay for any parts needed, but I require the laptop for classwork and such, and sending my laptop away for 2 weeks would only be detrimental. My question is is this a common problem with this system, and if so is there a solution I haven't found yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

My XPS 15 crushed (Motherboard? )

Hi all, 9 days ago my XPS 15 crushed after 10 months of usage with no obvious  reason (probably mothrbord as per Dell customers service).

I have been waiting 9 days so far to get the approval to send it to a depot ( Tomorrow it will be sent).

I am a bit surprised that it happened so early to this high-end machine , in terms of my work this failure is a serious set back.

I guess my questions are:

Is this a common problem with this laptop?

Where I can report what happened so others will know?

What are the chances that it will happen again?

Should I expect any warrrnty for this specific issue?

How long will the process of sending to a depot, fixing and getting it back will take (I live in Vancouver)?

Thanks

Dell 5748 Won't Boot up properly

$

I have an Inspiron 5748, and recently I've been having multiple issues. When I don't use the laptop for a couple of hours, and try to bring it out of sleep mode, I only get a black screen, nothing responds. No buttons work, other than holding down the power, til I hear the little beep indicating hard shut down. And this is where things get really interesting.

Sometimes, when I try to power up, I get nothing but 8 loud beeps.  Sometimes, I get the Dell screen, then I get the  Windows screen, and then it goes black. Once in awhile, it flashes a kind of whitish color, and stops there.  When it doesn't boot up all the way, it just sits on this screen, either black or greyish white, and never boots further. I can hard reset, and sometimes it comes up, sometimes it doesn't. It usually takes several hard reboots before I can get it to boot up all the way.

It usually boots fine into safe mode.

I've run all the system tests, from the boot screen, to the ones in the control panel. Everything passes, nothing gives me any errors. Hard drive, memory, display, processors, everything passes.

I've did a system restore (twice), and it's still doing the same thing. Right now, it's about as fresh as Windows can be, I've only installed antivirus and Dropbox, everything else is as it is after a factory reset, other than Windows updates and  updates from the Dell site, which I've done.

I've researched, and the 8 beeps seems to indicate LCD failure, but as it boots into safe mode, and, at this moment, it's working in normal mode, this doesn't seem to be the problem.

I'm running out of ideas of what to try, is it time to scrap my laptop?
