Hello there!

I have been having problems all week with my laptop overheating so today I decided to clean out my heat sink and fan. I was able to disassemble the laptop without a problem and removed a decent amount of dust from the inside of the laptop. After putting everything back together, I booted up the computer only to find that the keyboard is not working. I have disassembled and reassembled the laptop several times to make sure that everything is plugged in and connected and still cannot get the keyboard to work. Please help!!

I just bought this laptop a few days ago, replaced the HDD with an SSD, and reinstalled Windows 7 Professional x86. A few things about devices on my laptop confused me...

I've gotten notifications from Notification Center that I need to install a fingerprint driver. My M6500, from what it looks like, does not have one.

My Bluetooth light is on, but I do not see anything in Device Manager about it or Devices and Printers.

My space bar squeaks whenever pressed (unlike any other key). It's driving me insane. Without replacing the entire keyboard, what can I do about it?

Addition: I would like to install a second HDD in the laptop. It comes with the caddy, but no screws or adapter. By adapter, I cannot plug the hard drive straight into the PC, like the first HDD bay.

What is the fiscal number of a laptop? I think it is my tax ID but I'm not sure. In what format should I write it?

I'm looking to upgrade the ram on the newly released inspiron 11 3137. The laptop has one dimm slot that is also user accessible. It is currently only shipping with 2gb of ram. I realize the manual states it can support up to 4gb of ram, but has anyone tried adding a single 8gb stick?

It comes with win8 64 bit, and packs a recently released 4th gen haswell celeron. I'm thinking it may support an 8gb stick, but don't want to order without confirmation that someone has gotten it to work.

My problem is

I click START >Shutdown and have to wait and wait forever (3-5minutes) for the final prompt to either restart/shutdown/log off.Its is real annoying.

I am using a 2007(bios) Latitude Dell 520 laptop (purchased second hand).  I've had this problem from day one (the laptop was actually on when the seller handed the laptop to me).

Wondering why its so slow between shutdown and the next step (final prompt to either restart/shutdown/log off). What is the problem and how to solve it?

Got our new XPS-15, 9530 Base model last night, and the WFIF will not stay on.

over 2 hours on the phone with Tech Support, and they are sending out a Tech to replace the WIFI card. I'm not even sure it is the WIFI card as he gave up trouble shooting it when he couldn't stay on Remote Access.

the worst of it was the two hours on the phone, it was pure hell, and I told the Techs supervisor about it afterwards.

Anyone else havering WIFI issues with this new model?

I hope this isn't the future of this computer, as a new non functioning computer is not a good start.

This is really pushing me towards an Apple MacBook Pro.

Hello

My trackpad isn't working well. I tried Restore and installing the latest driver - no luck.

I keep getting a different design on the cursor something that looks like this <I>.

The normal horizontal line disapears, and I get two arrows either side.

Can anyone tell me what this is for, or why it is there.

How can I get rid of it?

Any other reason my trackpad is behaving badly, its a vostro 1540.

Hello folks,

            I am having 3 years old Inspiron N5010 Dell series laptop with 4 GB RAM, i3 2.27 GHz processor, 500 GB HDD, 1 GB Graphics from ATI and 64 bit Windows Home basic.

I am facing problem with graphics driver(not sure) . While working on laptop sometimes random color bars appear on screen, laptop hangs for some time get error as " Graphics driver stopped working and now recover successfully. " and sometimes get error regarding blue-screen and Dumping physical memory. After dumping physical memory completes to 100% laptop restart automatically.  When system boots again it shows random bars(black and white) on screen. Laptop start normal in Safe Mode. I tried to update graphics driver , it shows "Latest drivers installed" message. I also asked Dell regarding this, they suggest to go for motherboard replacement. But i think its not worth solution.

Please, help me.

Hello!

I'm new here, and after some googling I've been unable to solve this problem. My old battery started to die on me, so I bought a new one. I took out the old one, held the power button for about twenty seconds, stuck in the new one and let it charge for maybe three hours. To my delight I continued to receive annoying pop ups saying that I needed to replace my battery!

I googled a bit, found an old thread, and followed its tips of leaving the battery out for three hours, holding the power button for twenty seconds, and then charging it over night; updating my BIOS; and resetting my BIOS defaults.

I have a Dell Latitude E6420 and she's about two and a half years old. I'm using the same AC charger that she came with, but I have another newer one that I use just as much. She charges fine.

I did all this within the past two busy days, and haven't been able to use my laptop much. I'm currently unaware of how long she'll hold out unplugged. She used to go for six or seven hours! 

Any help will be appreciated!

I have a laptop Dell N5110 and the left/right  mouse button suddenly stopped working.  I tried reinstalling the drivers with no successful results.  Everything else on the touchpad seems to be working as well as all buttons on the USB mouse

I got a popup and an attempt to install an exe file when i browsed a site with my virus software on.  It then went to priviledge escalation mode, and at that point I hard powered down the computer.  WHen I attempted to restart, i got the post 7 beep.  Removed the cmos backup battery, replaced, tried again, same beep.  I have the hard drive on an USB harness on my lab server and the partitions show up fine.  Haven't run a virus scan yet.  All of the answers I see for the same problem indicate a failed processor, but would this happen concurrently with an attempt to install a trojan?  Windows 7 btw. no new hardware installed prior to the error.

my Inspiron 15 3521 uses Insyde H2O bios, and there appears to be no setting to disable network boot.  alternately, i would like to change the boot order so i can boot from HD (win 8 UEFI) before network boot.

the symptom is:  when i have a network cable connected when i power up, network boot comes up and takes forever to time out before booting from my HD.

Hi all,

I have a brand new Latitude E6530 with Dell Wireless 5630 (EDVO-HSPA) Mobile Broadband Mini-Card.  I know for a fact this device was working when I received the Laptop.  I have rebuilt the Laptop using Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit, and updated all the devices in Device Manager using a CAB file downloaded from the Dell Website.  There are no exclamation marks by any device, which would suggest everything, including the Mobile Broadband Mini-Card are functioning. However, when I install the Dell Mobile Broadband Utility, it show "No device detected", and refuses to work.

(Note, I get the exact same thing with Windows 7 Pro 32-Bit and Windows 8 Pro 64-bit).

I have tried uninstalling the Dell Wireless 5630 drivers and re-installing them with several different versions of drivers, all from Dell Downloads, but nothing will seem to get the device detected in the Dell Mobile Broadband Utility.

Does anyone know of any other utilities or diagnostics I can run on my Laptop to try and determine what's going wrong?  This device is going to prove highly useful in my line of work, so it's a massive shame I can't get it functioning.

Hi,

Had a new laptop delivered yesterday, including AMD Radion GPU.... but don't seem to be able to use it?!

The Device Manager shows both the onboard Intel HD and AMD Radion...and seems apps and game are using Intel... the only reason I bought the laptop with AMD Radion was to be able to use the AMD GPU all the time....

How can I select to use the AMD all the time?

Yesterday,2 out of 3 USB's ports were not working and there is also some noise comes after sometimes in regular intervals below the CD drive side.
Then I go to Dell Online Diagnosis shop and check my system there.
After checking my USB start working properly and noise issue also resolved.
But when i shutdown my system,it completes all process till shutdown screen goes off but the power buttonwas stll on there!!!
So i manually turn off my system.
Aftersome time, I start my laptop and work for 2-3 hours..when i try to shut down ,same problem had to face and I manually Suht it down.
Today when I Start my system,It powers on but a slight movement of Laptop position moved it towards instant power off
I try again and it is not even Booting up now,,,and from that time i tried it several times,,Laptop is not even power on !!

Hi folks, My XPS L501X laptop shuts off completely and without warning. What happens is the cursor freezes. The computer does not respond to anything. After about 15 to 60 seconds, the screen goes black and it completely powers down in an instant. It does not restart on its own.

After it shuts down I can re-boot, but sometimes is shuts off during re-boot. Other times it runs for 5 minutes or so. Usually it acts this way for a day or two, then it's "OK" for a week or so before it starts acting up again.

I have run Dell diagnostics and found no problems. I have taken it to the local computer shop. They ran diagnostics and found nothing wrong and were not able to get it to shut down. Yet when I brought it home, it shut down on me within the first hour of use. It seems to run longer in safe mode, but I did have it shut off unexpectedly today while it was in safe mode.

I suspected there might be a problem with my video card as it seemed to be worse when I had an external monitor hooked up to it. Then I ran it for several weeks without the external monitor and it seemed to be OK. Until today when it started shutting down again with no external monitor attached.

This has been an excellent computer until this started happening about 6 months ago. I"m on the verge of giving up and buying a desktop (another laptop like this one is just too expensive).

My laptop is out of warranty. Does anyone know if this is a known issue with this computer and if there is a reliable fix for it?

I have a Dell N5040 that shut down on me a year ago. Local tech guys checked it said no viruses just corrupted windows. Reinstalled windows 7 ran for 6 months and same issues reoccurred. Ran boot diagnostics Memory discrepancy test on the 4G RAM. tested both slots both failed. Bought a new 4G memory stick and diagnostics won't recognize it. I cant reboot from the windows disk with the new RAM it goes blue screen and bad pool header error message. If I run the disk on the old RAM it reaches about 11% on the windows reinstall and fails error code refers back to memory issue. What can I do to get the new RAM to be recognized? On a scale of 1 to 10 Im a level 4 computer illiterate. I can enter the diagnostics and setup screen but I need a little hand holding for anything that's extremely technical. Thank for any help you can give me. I don't have any files that have to be saved so I can reformat or write over the old windows if needed. I just need to know why the new RAM that was guaranteed compatible with the N5040 doesn't seem to be working. Thanx again

Hello all,

I just received my new Inspiron 15 (Model 3521, non touch) and the mouse click sound is loud (unlike any Dell laptop I have ever owned).  It is loud enough that I could not use this computer in a meeting, classroom or other quiet setting without being noticed.  I contacted support and was told by the representative that it sounded like I have a faulty palm rest and that the part should be replaced.  Obviously, I wondered why this machine made it through the quality control process and even shipped to me.  The part is being shipped and an on-site technician will service the machine.

After initiating this service visit, I saw this issue mentioned as a negative in connection with a couple of reviews of the laptop, so I am beginning to think that the machine itself does not have a defect that can be corrected by the technician, but instead  has a design defect.  The sound is a physical sound which occurs even when the computer is turned off.  It sounds like a hollow, cheap plastic click/thunk and occurs when pressing either mouse button.

Anyone have experience with this or similar model and can tell me if this is the "norm"?  If so, I'd just as soon begin the return process and begin shopping for a replacement.  If this is part of the design (why on earth would Dell allow this to be???) I hate to waste time  with on-site repair, only to discover that I have a machine with a design flaw, one which is not acceptable to me, since I will be unable to use my laptop in situations in which I need to use it.
