XPS 9560 warranty

I received my XPS 9560 last week and am more than happy, however, I noticed some thermal throttling when pushing the CPU or GPU. I am accustomed to replacing thermal paste on laptops and are considering this for the 9560 as well, but only if it doesn't void the warranty. Is there any way to get confirmation that this does notvoid the warranty? On Reddit there are a lot of claims that replacing the thermal paste has no influence on the warranty, but nothing official unfortunately.

Dell Laptop Inspiron 5520 battery charging issue

I have had my Dell Inspiron 5520 Laptop since late 2012. It has been a great computer, and although I have recently upgraded to a new Dell laptop, I still use my 5520 for writing and entertainment purposes. The only reason I upgraded at all was because I had a hard drive go bad and didn't realize that it was only the hard drive at the time. I restored the computer with a different version of Windows 7 after I replaced the drive and everything is working great - except the battery charging. It is sporadic. What happens is I plug in the charging cord at times, the computer detects it for a second or two, and then it no longer charges. I ran a complete PC health check and it showed everything is working properly and the battery is healthy, but it did not detect it being plugged in even when it was. I also flashed the BIOS, and it had no real affect on the charging issue. WHAT DID WORK was shutting down the computer, removing the battery, and pressing the power button for 30 seconds and reinstalling the battery. After I do that, it does detect the charging cord is connected and the battery charges properly - but only for a week or two, and then I usually have to do it all over again. Any thoughts? Is my battery going? Charging cord? Any other thoughts? It's not a HUGE deal that this is happening. I love this computer. If I can correct the problem, I will. Thanks!

PS - The original dell software had a feature that I could set that ran the battery up and down even while plugged in to preserve battery life. After I reinstalled everything available from the Dell website, this feature was no longer detected on the computer. Just wanted to put that out there so all the information I have is offered.

Dell Inspiron 1564 no Dell starting screen and no boot

I was just watching a movie on my Dell Inspiron 1564 which I have been using for the last 7 years. I know it's a bit old but has worked perfectly for me until today.

I close the lid so that I move my laptop to the balcony. When I opened it I saw a black screen, the power led was on and no hdd activity was shown on the respective led. So after waiting a while I manually switched it off through the on/off button.

After that I switch it on again. The power led is on. From the led showing the hdd activity I can see that the system tries to boot the hard drive but fails. However there is no Dell starting screen, boot options or anything. At the moment when this occurred I was logged in an Ubuntu 14.04. I have a dual boot Dell with windows 7 and Ubuntu 14.04.

I am aware that probably this is not something I can personally fix. However I am really stressed about my hard drive because I am at the end of my thesis and although I have backed up many things I had not for the last 2 weeks when a lot of serious work was done. Could someone try to narrow down to the possible reasons for this incident?

Dell Inspiron 17 7000 series 2in1

I am not happy with this product. I have submitted a second trouble ticket today. The first was for a hard drive issue and the second is probably a motherboard as the customer support alluded to. Less than 6 months and now twice I am going to be without my laptop for an extended period of time. The first time was a for a week. For the second issue, I will have to send my laptop into the service center and even though they said they would expedite it, it will probably take at least two weeks for just shipping back and forth.

I was thinking of getting something similar for my daughter, but after my experience with how inconsistent the laptop has been and how fixing the current laptop I have will take awhile, I can't see buying another Dell laptop. I was thinking of starting on my Master's next year, but obviously I may have to think about purchasing a second laptop to ensure that I have a trustworthy device to use for my school work.

Honestly, right now, I feel that with every new Facebook post that Dell has about new products, I would like to tell my story on each and every post to ensure everyone thinks twice about buying a Dell computer. Just looking through the posts in the forums, it doesn't seem like many people are getting the support that they should be getting for spending a good chunk of money on these computers. The last time I had this much trouble with a computer was with E-Machine and their service was terrible. Is Dell going the way of E-Machine and I have made a mistake in purchasing a Dell laptop?

Trying to find Windows 7 64 bit drivers for E6420 and E6330 on Dell site

Hello I am trying to find the Windows 7 drivers list for Latitude E6420 and E6330. On the dell site I am able to access the drivers and downloads for both laptops, but the E6420 only has a OS option of Windows XP, and the E6330 only has the OS option for Windows 7 32 bit. If there is a step I am missing or another option to get the Windows 7 64 bit drivers for these laptops I would appreciate the help.

Note: I have tried the Dell detect option but it says that the application is configured imporperly

KB backlight problems with Inspiron 5577 gaming

The Inspirion 5577 gaming keyboard is red on a black background. Unless the keyboard is backlit no one can see the letters -- it's that bad, and it is a usabilty issue.

Of course, there is the backlight function, which works just fine except for one thing. It does not stay on permanently (until the end of the session). And when it goes dark, you can't even find the key turn it on again.  And if you use the wrong Key, Windows' intrusiveness with "how can I help you" nonsense can take it out of you.  One has to use a flashlight...

There is a panel where the intensity of the backlight can be changed but not the duration.

Does anyone know how to change the duration of the backlight?

In addition, this is an issue that handicapped people and I dare say others are/will be afflicted with, and a solution should be found. (sticky keys are one such...)

Need some help repairing my Dell Vostro 1540

So recently I found a Dell Vostro 1540 and it is in perfect working condition. However I noticed that none of the screws are still in and the bottom base is really loose and with enough pressure I can remove it.

Does anybody know what screws this laptop uses on the underside?

Dell has removed Windows 10 driver downloads for Dell Inspiron 7737

Dell 7737 BIOS v14 has a keyboard bug where random keyboard keys stop working till the AC is disconnected and the battery removed or drained.

I have a Dell 7737 laptop and from time to time it develops a firmware glitch where random keys stop working for both BIOS Setup and Operating Systems. After such thing happens neither shutdown (Full shutdown / Fast Boot disabled) nor restart get the keyboard back to a normal state. At this point the only workarround is to disconnect the AC power cord and then either drain the battery or physically remove it.

This laptop's battery cover is not designed for daily removal and it is starting to get loose because of this BIOS bug.

I am running BIOS version A14 but this bug was present since I purchased the laptop with BIOS version A07. Sometimes I cannot even type my password because the random keys that stop working match those it uses.

Please Dell could you provide a BIOS hotfix for this annoying issue?

Please daughter am at a loss and my daughter needs this laptop foe school.

Tell me please, what is the difference between the specifications of the Dell Vostro 5568-7674 and 5568-3003, except for different Linux and Win10? I assume that the difference lies in the fingerprint scanner and the body material.

Latitude E6420: keyboard occasionally loses power

I have a Dell Latitude E6420. For about three years I had no problems with the keyboard. Recently however, the keyboard occasionally stops working. This usually happens after I undock it from the PR03X docking station. To fix it. I power off the computer, remove the battery, hold the power button for 10 seconds, and then restart. This always fixes the problem. However, I'm looking for a permanent fix because this problem occurs every two weeks.
I don't have any other problems. Peripherals works fine.
Thanks!
Chris

Touchpad disabled, but it still works

I have set the switch (in Settings >> Touchpad), rebooted, run diagnostics, confirmed latest drivers, confirmed all the latest Windows updates, ... all the usual suspects.  Any other ideas for how to disable the touchpad?  Really just want it disabled when I have a USB mouse attached, but as you might suspect, that didn't work either....

Device Manager errors

After a fresh W10 1703 fully updated install on a 3148 Inspiron laptop, four OTHER DEVICES appear in Device Manager: PCI Data Aqquisition and Signal Processing Controller and three 'unknown devices.' "Drivers not installed; no compatible driver can be found."

Intel's update utility reports nothing missing. SFC is good and PC operation is normal.
The errant entries are redetected at boot even if disabled, or uninstalled via Safe Mode.

Best I can tell, these are all related to the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework, as suspected.  Earlier, two drivers with that general designation, yet unique, were added after the install.

Problem is, the drivers listed by Dell for the 3148 are tagged W8/8.1, and there are several - different from those Dell had available a few months ago - so it's not clear which, if any, apply to W10.  Perhaps you do.  In reality, more recent drivers may be in force.

Power-Plan Settings Adjustments & Dell XPS 13 9350/Iris 540 graphics/i7-6560u/QHD+ Touchscreen Question(s) anyone?

I own the Dell XPS 13 9350/2016 model with the iris 540 graphics card, I purchased this laptop in march of this year (2017). So I've only had this thing for about 3 1/2 months now, just short of the 4 month difference between then and now and I've had my ups and downs with this machine already, only until just yesterday did I decide on a clean-install of windows 10 home (I had previously been using the laptop and its OS as it came directly from dell with all of the dell apps/programs/services it came installed with). its working much better now!

my laptops specs:

Dell XPS 13 9350/2016

/Iris 540 Graphics

/i7-6560U

/512GB NVMe SSD(m.2) Toshiba THNSN5512GPUK

/16GB Ram

/QHD+ Touchscreen

/Windows 10 Home (clean-install, no dell software)

/Norton 360

so I am trying to understand how the CPU % and GHz (processor power) works, and what real world usages affect these numbers and how they would apply to me and how I use this specific laptop. I honestly don't use anything too demanding, I only use this device to browse the web, surf net/read articles, YouTubevideos, photo/video storage/sharing, social media, Netflix, some small/minor demanding programs/applications - and absolutely no video-editing, gaming, or anything else processor demanding. I got this laptop from a cousin who bought it band new and ended up needing a desktop instead so sold it to me, and is only 3-almost-4 months old now.

I have had a lot of high-temp readings (compared to what I've read others experience with same laptop) in the past from basic usage (as I stated above, YouTube, web surfing, browsing, social media, few select programs/applications, - no gaming/video-editing etc.) and I've noticed today after watching my CPU usage and GHz in task manager that my processor is pushing like what appears to be into turbo-boosting? 3.0+ GHz when I visit youtube.com and start watching a video, it really jumps around and fluctuates when I start moving the mouse around while watching the video, so I'm trying to understand all of this, so I can adjust it to my specific use/performing needs; I have been adjusting the advanced settings in my power-plan (which is set to balanced) under processor power management + maximum processor state, from 100% on battery/plugged in, and changing it to 75~80% (I tried 30%-40% at first, but wasn't sure if it was affecting my performance-experience over-all by making it slow/hindered based on my usage) - but at 75-80% I managed to lower GHz and CPU %  and now when on YouTube, when I move my cursor around it wont go higher than 1.60~1.70GHz, it looks like it will jump around from like .77GHz and fluctuate up to 1.60GHz depending if I'm just watching the video or moving my cursor/using and moving it w] track-pad - goes higher if I touch trackpad and hover over stuff in circles.

What's a good GHz speed to shoot for if I'm trying to save battery life, keep a great performance level (for what I said I would be using this laptop for/browsing/YouTube/light-use with no video-editing/gaming)? how many GHz you guys think, cause based on that I can tune the settings myself and just find what works for me. also I think its turbo boost kicking in when I'm on YouTube and the processor is pushing 1.6~1.7GHz cause it seems to jump around as I said from .77~1.6GHz when I move the mouse, but for a few seconds at the first it stays steady at 1.6~1.7GHz, which I assume is the turbo-boosting part, it then lowers down and just jumps around.

how is having lower GHz going to affect my laptop and its performance over-all? I could always change the MAX % my processor can use to a higher level later if I wanted right?

and I read somewhere you can also adjust how long the intel turbo-boosting lasts for in some settings, anyone know a thing or two about this as-well?

and one last thing, intel graphics control panel, I was told the Dell XPS 13 9350 out of the box needs tuning for color(maybe color gamma?idk) but its not accurate out of the box, I went into control panel profiles and color management earlier and seen a few diff options, I was testing them, like VIVID colors, normal colors, bright and dark picture/video - but I didn't wanna change anything permanent until I had educated myself a little better on the subject/settings at hand, so if your one of those bad-*** computer-smart users out there reading this, PLEASE do me this (what I consider HUGE) favor and help me understand -> Educate me !!

thank you.
