9365 Beep Issue - Resolved - so far

So after logging when the loud beep kept occurring, I think I drilled it down to happening anytime a video was playing on Chrome Browser.  I found a solution to disable flash completely in Chome and so far, I have not heard the dreaded screech from the laptop.

Turned off flash by following the following

You can administer Chrome's built-in components including PPAPI Flash from:
top-right Chrome Menu/three vertical dots ( ⋮ ) > Settings > Show advanced settings > Privacy > Content settings
Inside Content settings, you will see sections for "Flash"

Dell Inspiron 1521 battery question

$

I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop running Windows 10 64 bit which has been fine until a few days ago when I noticed the battery indicator on the taskbar showed 0%. I unplugged the adapter and the laptop powered off like I had a dead battery. I then went to BIOS and got the same 0% indication and on the battery health screen it showed the battery was operating normally. The battery indicator light would light up blue for maybe 20 seconds then go out.

Decided to check the battery voltage and it was correct so I then proceeded to connect a resistor across the battery and the current was at 1.21 amps. I did the test for 15 minutes and the current and voltage didn't drop.

I then proceeded to try the battery again and in BIOS I got up to 3% charge before the battery indicator light went out.

Tonight I loaded the battery for an hour and 15 minutes with a 5 ohm resistor. I didn't monitor the voltage and current, but the resistor was still very warm after that time period.

Tried it again and in Windows got 2 hours and 40 minutes till full charge, but the charge percent indicator would not move off 0%

After around the time it specified it shut off the battery indicator light and the time to full charge jumped up to something like four hours.

When I press the test button on the battery the light farthest from the button flashes twice.

Also even though the battery is fully charged I cannot run the laptop without the power adapter connected.

Any idea what the problem could be?

Hi All,

I am having some trouble with the wifi on my laptop. So most days in the past two weeks, 5-6 times now the wifi turns itself off, and I cannot turn it on again. I need to restart (although i always do a shutdown/start as the laptop sometimes 'hangs' while doing a restart *) the laptop and then everything is fine again.

I am running Windows 10 Pro - 64 bit
Intel(R) Dual BAnd Wireless-AC 7260 version 18.20.0.9

Any ideas as to why this is happening and how to fix it?

Thanks

* hangs while doing a restart  -- last time I did it I waited over 5 min and i was still seeing the 'Restarting' spinner i hold the power button down to shutdown the laptop.

Dell Inspiron 15 7567 gaming tickling when plugged in

Hi everyone!

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7567 gaming laptop, and today I noticed, that my laptop makes very quiet ticking sound when it is plugged in. This is strange, because the sound very similar to a HDD's head movement ticking. The only problem that there's no winchester in this laptop, only SSD-s (1 X M.2 NVMe PCI-E x4, and 1 X SATA3 2,5") working in my laptop. In this series there's no optical drive, so the only mechanical units in this laptop the 2 cooling fans. But strangely the ticking is exactly can be heard, when the fans stop. So when the fans don't spin (0 rpm) the quiet ticking sound can be heard.

The second strange thing, if I unplug the laptop from AC, the ticking slows down. After i plug in it again, the ticking continues faster...

Do somebody sensed the same? The ticking comes from under the keyboard, if I lean forward, I can hear it well. I think, that this ticking might caused by one electical unit, and I worry that my laptop will go wrong, although now there's no other problem, just the sound...

Alienware m17x R3 won't power on

I have an Alienware m17x R3 that has a few issues, had some work done, and won't turn on.

History: I got the laptop through college back in December 2011, it worked flawlessly until 2015 when it suddenly died as the final cinematic of Dragon Age: Inquisition ended (pre DLC, but hey, at least I got to finish the main story) and would not turn on again. I was unable to perform any diagnostics (it wouldn't turn on, so, you know, couldn't even get into the BIOS) so I shelved it until I could afford to send it in somewhere. The only clue given was the blue LED ring on the power cord, it would light up when I plugged the cord into the wall, but would then turn off when I plugged the cord into the laptop. Online searches led me to believe the motherboard had died based on the power cord/LED issue. The battery had also died before this and was unable to hold a charge, I was thus unable to power on the laptop without it being plugged in at any rate. There was also that time a mug of black coffee was spilled on the laptop, no sugar or cream, but that is of small comfort. When the mug was spilled the laptop shut itself off instantly, I opened it up, let it dry and air (I picked it up, tipped it, and watched a mug of coffee pour out of the *** thing), waited 48 hours and turned it on, to my delight it worked, and continued to do so for another 8 months or so. There was a fear that the acidic nature of the coffee would corrode connections and stuff, but there were no performance drops or issues that I noticed between the spill and its ultimate demise.

Fast forward to early 2017. I finally brought the laptop into NCIL in Thunder Bay and briefed them on the issues and asked them to diagnose to confirm the motherboard issue and replace it (as well as add some RAM, however in the end I chose to not upgrade my RAM). They confirmed the motherboard was toast and needed repair, and replaced it with a refurbished model. They then called me and told me the video card was also shot and needed replacing, an added cost I could not afford. When I picked up the laptop from the shop I asked if it would power on and work with a secondary monitor, they told me that without the video card (which is still in place) no display would work.

HOWEVER: There is no change from before. The power cord LED ring turns on when I plug it into a wall, and turns off when I plug it into the laptop, still. The laptop will not power on at all. I've tried leaving the laptop plugged in for a time before attempting to power up (with and without the battery), I removed and reseated the video card and RAM sticks, no joy after any attempt.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe they didn't actually do anything and just took my money.

I'm reaching out hoping someone can help me diagnose what's actually wrong, or at least get the laptop functional enough to HDMI out to the TV so I can use that as a monitor. Maybe point me toward an affordable replacement video card. I'm a little cheesed that there appears to have been no improvement, despite me being a few hundred bucks in the hole.

I don't really remember the exact specs and parts list, but I still have the service tag, so if you're able and willing to help out I can provide that so you can see exactly what parts we're dealing with. (I might need some help figuring out what motherboard was installed, if it at all).

Thanks in advance,

Josh (VirulentGunk)

Unable to Image E7270 Laptop using ImageX. “THE SYSTEM CANNOT FIND THE DRIVE SPECIFIED”.

I am unable to capture an image of Windows 7/10 on the bootable UFD

I have done the following:

  1. Inserted the bootable UFD into a USB port on the reference computer.
  2. Turned on the reference computer, and from the list of boot devices, selected the bootable UFD
  3. At the command prompt, I am unable to identify which drive contains Windows 7/10—typically drive D in Windows PE. When I type dir d:, or any other letter and then press ENTER. I get the below message “THE SYSTEM CANNOT FIND THE DRIVE SPECIFIED”.
  4. I doesn’t recognise any USB ports regardless of what USB I use i.e. USB 2.0, USB 3.0.
  5. Even when I try to check the drive which contains Imagex.exe and run dir e:dir f:dir g:, I get the same message.

I think it might have something to do with drivers but any directions or if you have overcome this issue please let me know. Much appreciated.

Dell Inspiron 15 7567 ticking sound issue

$

Hi!

I have bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7567, and yesterday I noticed, that my laptop makes very quiet ticking sound. The sound very similar to HDD's head movement sound, the only problem is, that in my laptop there is no HDD. I use just 2 SSD (1 X M.2 PCI-E x4 [Samsung 960 EVO], and 1 X SATA 3 2.5" [Samsung 850 EVO]). In this model there's no optical drive, so the only mechanical part of this laptop, that coud generate this sound, if it would be mechanical sound, is the fan system. but strangely the ticking sound only hearable when the fans stop spinning.

So I don't think, that the fans would create this sound, because when I can see in AIDA64 that fans speed is 0 RPM, the ticking sound exactly then hearable.

Additionaly strangely, when I unplug the laptop from AC, the ticking sound almost stops (It not stops, but the click sound becomes rare)... After I plug the AC back, the ticking continues...

Do somebody sensed the same? Is it normal? My opinion, that the sound caused by on of the electronical units bad groundings, or something. Although there's no power or other issue with my laptop now, but I don't want to wait until it gets bad...

Thanks!

Hi there,

have E7440 and few months ago it started to freeze when i attach charger to it. If i remove it comes to life again. Screen lights up like normal but i can access cursor or keypad. Have latest BIOS, have latest drivers. There is only one way to solve this, turning off panel refresh in intel video driver. But if turn this feature off i get burn in of my screen as self refresh is turned off, image ghosts.

This is 100% software issue, please address it.

Hello,

I want to change my processor on my laptop running the following specs:

Intel® Pentium® CPU N3710 @ 1.60ghz
8gb
64 bit Operating System x63 based processor

to a faster processor. Is this possible to do and will it invalidate the warranty on the laptop ? estimated costs would be useful too.

thanks,

Habib.

BitLocker Failure - Latitude 7480

Hi All,

We have recently started ordering the Latitude 7480 Business laptops and seem to be having issues with Bitlocker passing the key to the TPM Chip.

We are building with Win 10 Enterprise image so BIOS is set to Legacy Boot rather than UEFI, but TPM is both ON and Enabled.

When we try and enable BitLocker it asks to restart the machine, on next boot in there is an error "BitLocker could not be enabled. The BitLocker encryption key cannot be obtained from the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). C:\ was not enrypted"

Doing some looking online seems there was a forum post on here just recently about the same issue and the issue was resolved by Dell releasing a new Firmware (V 1.3.3) for the devices which corrected the issue in TPM 1.2 - however these devices come with TPM 2.0, I have installed the latest firmware from their site (which is now V 1.4.6 which also includes a security patch for the Intel AMT system) but this still gives the same error.

Any suggestions?
