Dell Hard drive Replacement

My Dell Inspiron Laptop started running very slow.   Because I thought it was a microsoft issue, I contacted microsoft for help.   They ended up saying I needed to take it to Microsoft store which I did.  They have said that my hard drive needs replacing.   I asked if they can replace it with a Dell Hard Drive.   They said the hard drives in the Dells are not Dell hard drive - that Dell does not make hard drive.    I see Dell hard drive on Amazon so wanted to check this out before I proceed with having them replace it

Blinking Cursor on Black Screen, after Dell Logo - Hard Drive Self Test Unsuccessful.

Hi Friends,

I have an old Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 (purchased in 2012, which is out of warranty). It was working fine until few weeks earlier. Yesterday, when I switched it on, it shows the Dell logo; post which it shows a blinking cursor on a black screen. Though I waited for few mins thinking it would load Windows, it did not.

I had Win7 and recently upgraded to Win10. Also, I do not have a recovery disc; neither was provided with one from Dell during purchase.

Only options available for me are F2 and F12. I tried the following.
1. Removed all connected extenal components to the laptop. Removed and Reinserted the battery. Tried ON & OFF couple of times. No use.
2. Pressed F2 and changed the BIOS settings to boot from HD. No use.
3. Pressed F12 and ran the Diagnostics. Basic Test was successful. Thorough Test revealed the following

Error Code 2000-0142
Validation 7501
Msg: Hard Drive 0 - S/N 12*******, self test unsuccessful. Status = 7
The given error code and message can be used by Dell Technical Support to help diagnose the problem.

Checked in Dell website with above info suggests me to replace the HD.

Is there any other suggestions from the forum for me to try?

Thanks in advance for all your suggestions.

Just wiped a drive and did a clean install of Window 7 on a Latitude E5520. Trying to install the Dell wireless 375 bluetoth driver from the web site and get a box that says Activate Bluetooth using wireless switch and has an option to cancel install.  The wireless switch located at the front of the computer is 'ON'.  I can go no further at this point, where do I find this wireless switch it is referring to?

Alienware and Liquid

I have an Alienware Laptop, I think my 3 Year old Grand-Daughter spilled some water, whatever, into the laptop.  Now, when I try to turn on, the word Alienware below the screen lights up for about a second then turns off.  Thats all it will do.  This morning I stupidly inserted the OS disk 8.1 into the drie.  Now I cannot get it out and there is no pinhole to push in to retrive it.  Hit the F4 button and nothing, still there.  Anyone have any ideas, paid a lot of money for this laptop and warranty is over.  Thanks a lot.  Jake9364

Inspiron 15-3543 Memory Issue

I got a used Inspiron 15-3543 that had a 2gb sodimm in it and worked fine. I tried to install a 4gb sodimm, the machine led would light up, but then I got two beeps - this just keeps repeating.

I went back to reinstall the 2gb sodimm that was in it originally and now the laptop led blinks and I get the two beeps again, like it isn't seeing even the original sodimm that came in it when I got it (it had been working fine!)

Touch screen gone and Dell support tool not working :(

I bought this Inspiron 15-7579 in March - 3-4 months ago. :( Already the touch screen isn't working. I had Geek squad log in remotely to try and fix it and they were unable to repair it. It appears that it never had one! This happened about a month ago after a Dell update.

Also, I am unable to use the Dell Support tool! It says that is "Unauthorized to use on this system" So I uninstalled it and reinstalled a fresh version. And now I get "Error 1603 Fatal Error during installation"

I am very unhappy with this laptop.

DELL XPS 13 9365 Loud Beep Issue

I read several posts that others have experienced the loud beep issue with the Dell XPS 13 9365 computer.   I'm just documenting that I too have had this problem and have been working with Dell on this since March and the issue is still not resolved.  I sent the computer back to Dell for them to fix it.  They reinstalled the operating system but when I got it back, it still continued to make this random annoying beep/screech.    They currently are working on sending me a replacement but I'm concerned the replacement may also have the same problem.   it's annoying that Dell isn't acknowledging this being an issue that they apparently can't fix.

Connecting 3 displays - 2x displayport & 1x hdmi port

Hi,

I just got a new laptop, and I'm having trouble connecting all three external screens as I used on the old machine. On the old computer I connected two screens using the d-ports on my docking station in combination with one display using the hdmi port in my laptop. Now, with my new computer, I can either connect two screens via the d-port's on my docking station, but then the hdmi port does not work, and the display says there is no signal coming out of my computer. When I pull the two d-port cords out, the hdmi port starts working automatically.

- Intel HD Graphics 5500 (same as the old laptop)
- 3x Dell U2415 screens

Is there a way the hdmi port on my laptop can work simultaneously with the d-ports on the docking station while it is docked? (It worked fine on the old one)

XPS 9530 with swollen battery

I have an XPS 15 model 9530 with a swollen battery.  Obviously a defect in material and workmanship. I know that it is out of warranty, but this is just wrong. For what I paid for this laptop, I should not have to be worrying about my touchpad being destroyed by a swollen battery. I read the blogs, this is a common problem and I would like to know what you are going to do about it.  Will you stand behind your product if you are in the wrong?

Inspiron 15 Gaming 7567

Hi,

Have a 2 month old brand new Inspiron 15 gaming 7567 laptop and while playing a game tonight I was tapping on the case(more precisely next to the touch pad) gently, all of a sudden my laptop shut down and now will not turn back on.

When you press the power. Button it lights up for a split second and turns off.. it doesn't even make the usual noises like it wants to boot. The only time I can get a noise is when I hold "d + power button" and that only last half a second.

I have tried other general suggestion such as disconnecting button and holding down power then reconnecting to no end.

Any one have any ideas?

XPS 15 9550 Bluetooth stopped working (Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed)

I was just working happily when my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse just suddenly stopped working.

The Bluetooth settings page says "Bluetooth is turned off" and there are no options on the settings page or the system tray to turn Bluetooth on.

The Device Manager now has "Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed" where it did not before.

Other devices all seem to be working fine - USB devices plugged in are being recognized and work properly. Only BT seems to be broken.

I've tried:

uninstalling the device and rebooting

installing the latest updated chipset drivers from the dell website

windows updates

pretty much all of the advice here: http ://troubleshooter.xyz/wiki/fix-usb-device-not-recognized-device-descriptor-request-failed

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Need help in resetting the BIOS password

Hi All,

I am using Dell Inspiron 5547 laptop and a month back I set BIOS password, which was working fine till last week.

Recently my laptop took automatic updates and during the restart the updates got installed. Ever since these updates my laptop is not accepting the BIOS password.

I am sure, I am using the correct BIOS password, however it is not accepting it.

Is it a know issue in Dell Inspiron 5547? Why I am asking this question is I found quite a few similar complaints against this model.

Can someone help me with this issue?
