Greetings all. Avid reader this forum - never poster.
After monitoring this great source of info I never had sense enough to post. Now I'm in trouble.
Yesterday after a 'Dell PC Checkup' icon appeared in lower toolbar of my 2011 XPS L702X I ran usual quick scan. After completion scan results showed test failure in two sections:
AA) Targeted Read Test
BB) Smart Short Self Test
Both above listed in section:Samsung HM640 JJ ATA Device.
After digging more into explanation Dell scan site advised (in short) " Hard Drive in Imm danger of total
failure. Backup all files and replace Hard Drive ASAP"
As you may all know by now I am no wizard when it comes to the internals and their illness that lurks within. Appreciate your help and advice:
1-Yes she's an old girl but when ordered in 2011 I specified I7 Intel Highest Nvidia etc. which resulted in very high spirited gaming/3D performer. Last of the great Media Center Editions. I am curious to know in round numbers what I may be looking at dollar wise to re-construct L702X?
2- Should I administer last rites and be thankful for so many years service from this Old Brass Hat?
3- Any ideas on my XPS worth on Ebay as a shell for someone savy in computer internals and repair.
Although quite aged anyon still very much alivee familiar with the status of high performance XPS MCE could have themselves quite a vintage toy for probably not to much $$. Keeping in mind MCE no longer supported and Windows 7/64 one the way out, where would you go from here? I never went the route of windows 10 upgrade (when it was free) because by doing so it automatic removes The Media Center from OS.
Just turned 66 and very much resist change and have fondness of vintage electronics(Pioneer QX-747
Quad, Old HP MCE desktop) Many Thks
