How To Change Boot Sequence in Win 10 onDell Inspiron 15 Gaming 7567

0
0

I recently (June 2017) bought a Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming 7567computer, with Windows 10 installed. I have created a backup image of the OS and also burned a bootable disk so that I can reinstall Windows 10 at a future date.

My old computer (which uses Windows 7) permits me to change the boot order sequence by using the F12 key during the startup process to access the BIOS and then edit the boot order sequence so that the machine boots from a DVD or USB drive. This makes it possible to restore a backup image from a previous date or even to use a different OS, e.g. Linux.

My problem is that the F12 key does not work on the new machine and I do not know how to create a boot order sequence that will permit me to boot from a DVD or USB drive instead of the hard drive. So at this point, I cannot use the bootable recovery disk that I prepared. I understand that there is now UEFI technology that controls booting.

Question: How can I make make the new computer boot from a DVD or USB drive?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Richard

Dell Latitude E7470 TouchPad/Point Stick Issue

Hi,

I newly got a Dell Latitude E7470 laptop, It was perfect until I discovered this weird issue.

Issue:

The cursor is moving slowly.when I finger oh the touchpad / pointstick had moved to the position I desired, the I need to wait for cursor to move. Sometimes I can see he laggingf shadow with my cursor. The issue only happens when Laptop wakes from Sleep with Battery(not plug in AC) or startup with Battery(not plug in AC).

Troubleshoot:

  1. I had switched with all 4 battery mode(Dell,Balance, high performance, Power Saver)
  2. The battery level is regardless, I had tested with 100%, 65% 35%,7%.
  3. Full shutdown and reboot doesn't help.
  4. I had the latest drivers for input devices installed as well.
  5. The machine was newly restored with system image.(not related to OS)
  6. No hardware upgrades.

Workaround: Connect External Mouse or Simply plug in AC. The most weird part is I don't even have to keep AC plugged in, I could plug in for 1 sec and then unplug, the cursor will be fine until I turn off the lid.

What do I want?

This is definitely how laptop suppose to work, and I don't have external mouse to carry with me. Can some advise what is might be the issue?

Thank you for in advance.

Zeke

Dell TB16 and Latitude 7370

Is anyone else having performance issues with the Dell TB16 and Latitude 7370's:

Slow keyboard and mouse response, delayed typing, garbled audio with Windows sounds \ Skype calls, slow application response with ALT+TAB, accessing network resources \ shares is extremely slow and just flat out overall poor performance.

I am having this issue with several of these docks and I have done the Dell OSD Driver CAB version A08 for the Latitude 7370, installed the TB16 drivers manually and even tried the Dell Command Update Utility to no avail.

At the time of this poor performance if we unplug the TB16 everything goes back to expected performance, also worth noting if we work with only 1 monitor connected to the TB16 there are no performance issues.

I am on Windows 10 1607 Current Branch for Business.

Astonished on the issues and the customer service My Alienware 15 gives me

Hello,

I am absolutely disgusted by how Alienware and Dell have treated me. So, I first bought this laptop at the end of 2015. It was all cool and nice. Then, as time went on it gave me issues. I tried everything to fix them and researced every possible way to fix them. This laptop has had an issue of overheating. I tried to clean the fan, but that didn't work. Then one day I accidentally cracked the screen so I had to send it into Dell to get fixed. I wrote on the paper that I was having issues with it overheating. This was at the end on 2k16. I was in college and needed this laptop to get work done. I am a gamer and I am not going to invest into getting another laptop for my class work, so I had to use my laptop. So, I sent it in to Alienware. It took them 3 weeks to just fix the screen and return it. Yeah, they just fixed the screen, not look into the overheating issue at all. I told customer service I had these issues with the heating and they said they would look into it. So, I had to lose all my school work for three weeks straight waiting for them to send in a laptop that they only fixed the screen to. I believe they did not fix my heating issue because they knew my warranty was going to end soon and they just wanted to get more money, so they let my laptop suffer and I would have to buy a new battery for it. Plus, they took so long shipping it back to me, I just thought maybe Dell thought my laptop was normal. You all know what's happening now?

I get this. I told them to look into my battery also, and they did nothing to fix it. It started on June 1st. Alienware told me to get a new battery, but they have none in stock. I look on Amazon to see they are expensive for me as I am broke at the moment. You guys fooled me. I am not the best computer tech or anything. I told them my issues and Dell did not fix it. So, now I have to suffer.
Thanks Dell.

Dell XPS L521x intermittent power issues

Hi there

I have an XPS L521x that will often just turn itself off.  Its very intermittent, nothing shows up in the windows event viewer other than "the system has rebooted after a power failure" error.  Nothing that shows up driver issues.  I have run countless tests on the RAM, leaving the laptop running for days doing an x86+ memtest, no issues returned.  I also ran the prime95 program overnight and there were no issues.

When i try to power on, sometimes i press the button and hte keyboard backlight lights up, but nothing comes up, theres no cd-rom noise and nothing on the screen.  Ill often have to try this a dozen times or so before it finally starts working.  Sometimes it hangs on BIOS, but thats pretty rare.  Its such an odd thing, because often if i use it sitting on a table it works fine for days, sometimes weeks.  then BAM.  Can anyone give me some pointers?  I was thinking it might be a short maybe?  I have no idea though really, hence the question on here.

Extreme battery drain -sleep mode- Dell Latitude 5289

We have two new Latitude 5289's and when in sleep mode the battery is drained abnormal. It happens for both of these new laptops.

The battery seems to be drained even faster than when you are using the laptop.

Does anybody have the same experience or a fix?

Cheers

INSPIRON 1545 - ERROR CODE 0146 - PLEASE HELP!

My Dell Inspiron 1545 does not start up completely, it gets to my login screen (the screen where i enter my password for my account) but the only thing thats not loading up are the 2 accounts that are on the computer so i cant get past that screen cuz i cant login anywhere. The laptop turns on and runs the exact same way as it was when it was working, its not taking long to power on or anything like that, the only thing is that my accounts dont show up so i dont know how to fix that

I ran the diagnostics and the only thing that popped up was the message saying the error code 0146, I continued running the test after seeing that message and everything passed.

My laptop was restarted back to factory reset like 2 months ago, i didnt have any cd's to reset the computer with but so after the factory reset the laptop was going slow so i was trying to change the settings to run faster and for programs not to run in the background and i found the settings to change which programs and stuff will automatically run when the computers starting up and i turned them all off,

Did i turn off the settings to get my accounts to load on the login screen when i first turn the computer on?

How can i get the accounts to load on the login screen?

How can i fix the error code 0146?

I tried to reset it again but it doesnt work, i tried resetting the startup setting back to default and it didnt work, i dont know how to get into safe mode cuz i push F8 at the right time and nothing happens

How can i get my computer to work again? I had just reset the computer back to factory reset so i dont have anything on the computer so resetting it again is not a problem, i just cant get it to reset

Flickering lines through Dell splash screen on startup Inspiron 7537

I get moving white dots/lines through the Dell splash screen when the laptop starts up.

I still have a few months left of warranty left on my inspiron 7537. Does anyone have an idea of what the issue might be? I only get it on startup and have no other graphical issues once I start up windows.

My laptop won't let me log in.

I have Windows 10. As soon as I start up my laptop, I get a message saying that my battery has failed and it needs to be replaced. That's a problem, yes, but I can just keep it on the charger for now. Anyway, it gives 2 options. I can either press f1 to continue, or press f2 to run the utility setup. I've tried both, but I had no clue what to do in the utility setup (which I hope can be explained here if it may offer a solution). When I press f1, it takes about a century to load, all while saying "Preparing Automatic Repair," and then gives me a blue screen telling me to choose my keyboard layout. After choosing US, it gives me two options: Troubleshoot, or turn off my PC. When I click troubleshoot, I'm granted with two more options: Reset this PC, and Advanced Options. If I click Reset this PC, surprise surprise, I'm greeted with 2 more options: Keep my Files or Remove Everything. If I click Keep my Files, it tells me that the drive where Windows is installed is locked. If I click Remove Everything, it says, "There was a problem resetting your PC." If I go back to the other page and click Advanced Options, I'm greeted with 6 different choices: System Restore, Command Prompt, System Image Recovery, UEFI Firmware Settings, Startup Repair, and Go back to the previous build. System Restore tells me to specify which Windows installation I want to restore and tells me to restart and select which one (I'm not quite sure how to do that). Command Prompt opens the command prompt. I'm sure this is where my solution will probably come from, but I don't know what to type. System Image Recovery "cannot find the file specified" despite me never specifying a file. Startup Repair attempts to diagnose my laptop, and then says it couldn't repair my PC. It gives me the option to shut down or access advanced options. When I click the latter, it sends me right back to the Troubleshoot/Turn off my PC page. Go back to the previous build runs into a problem it refuses to explain before telling me to try resetting my current build instead. Lastly, UEFI Firmware Settings tells me to restart to change UEFI Firmware Settings. When I do so, my computer restarts as promised and then it just starts the Setup Utility. What should I do?

How do I remove the owners name on a Dell laptop?

0

This is a very basic question. I have a new Dell laptop which is working very well but I was going to donate my old Dell laptop to a charity or a centre where older people can use it.

I have deleted all the personal files and programs but the owners name[admin] keeps on coming up.

How do I remove this from the computer? I don't know who will use the computer in the future but it still has some good life in it.

Inspiron 13-7378 ambient light sensor?

Hi,

I bought an Inspiron 13-7378. I'm generally happy with it, but the backlight doesn't adjust automatically and the keyboard backlight also doesn't come on automatically. Does the 7378 have an ambient light sensor? Am I missing a driver?

Thanks,

Stefan

Replacement for Dell XPS 15 9550 battery

I have an XPS 15 9550. The battery needs to be replaced because it seems to be swelling up.

The part I need to replace/fix this issue (which is either a design flaw or  manufacturing flaw and which is obviously a known issue even though Dell denies it) is part no. 1P6KD, a Dell 84 WHr 6-Cell Lithium-ion battery. Dell does not offer this part anymore, apparently. I can't find a replacement of similar oomph, only lesser versions. Anyone have a replacement that would work? Thanks.

Battery plugged in, not charging (Latitude)

I've tried all on the Dell Thread. Temporary fixes from plugging the adaptor in after power up, release charge and remove battery overnight, clean jack and plug and check for recognized signal etc., update BIOS, reinstall drivers, Changing BIOS to ignore charging (which I don't have the option), ran Dell Diagnostics, ran System File Checker (SFC)....

Two things. The Balun on the power cord is typically what goes bad (the cylinder looking thing). It's cheap part when you find out what it is and how it's made). Nuff of that though. F2 to bring up BIOS, selected Express Charging (Power) to Standard Power. I don't have a problem anymore.

Dell XPS 15 9560 unwanted character repeat.

I bought a new XPS 15 a month or so ago, and, ever since it arrived, it's been having ghost press issues. Usually it will be the spacebar that will be double-pressed while typing, but sometimes it's other keys. It happens rather frequently (maybe once in twenty keypresses), and is quite annoying.

The more annoying problem is that, around 10% of the time that I will press capslock+w to exit an app (I have remapped capslock to ctrl), the w key will remain stuck in software (the physical switch rises back up) and the OS will just keep receiving long strings of wwwwwwwww until I press a key (any key, not just the w key).

This happens both in Windows and Ubuntu, which leads me to believe that it's a problem with the laptop. From other people's reports that even changing keyboard didn't resolve this, I believe this is a software issue, similar to the problem the XPS 13 had with its BIOS, and which an update fixed.

Will there be such an update for our firmware? I don't want to send the laptop back and change a bunch of parts just to have it back with the same problem...

XPS 13 9365 Erratic touch pad behavior

Hi all,

My new XPS 13 9365 is suffering from erratic touch pad behavior. Moving the pointer with a single finger works fine.  Using two fingers to scroll up or down does not work with a consistent behavior.

In Edge or Chrome the vertical scrolling will often zoom in the page or cause a link to be clicked on the page, or the pointer can jump around. Trying to scroll in Windows Explorer is very bad.

All drivers and BIOS are up to date from Dell's site.

Some gestures mentioned in the online manual do not work.  For example; Circular Scroll, and One Finger Zoom.

I do not see any touch pad configuration application beyond what is included in the Windows 10 Settings.

This is the second 9365 we have purchased with this issue.

Has anyone else experienced this or have a fix?

Thank you!
