No Boot Device Found
Hello,
I have a dell Inspiron 3521 that I purchased in December 2013. A couple of days ago upon starting up the computer, after the dell logo, the computer displayed, "Check Media: Fail" twice and then the following message: "NO Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine". I restarted the computer, pressed the F2 button to see if the hard drive was detected as as you can see on the pic below the "Fixed HDD" reads "St500LT012-1DG142 (4GB).
Then I ran the ePSA Pre-boot System Assessment and as you can see in the second pic below next to the hard drive is a blue circle with the letters "NA" even though this diagnostic tool runs to completion and states that "All tests passed".
So, what should I do? Reseat the hard drive? Buy a new hard drive?

My XPS13 9365 always restart when locked
Hello
I have a problem with my new Dell XPS13 9365.
Every time I lock Windows 10, after a few minutes my computer restarts itself.
All applications are abruptly closed and data is lost.
Interestingly, these restarts only occur when my machine is in charge.
If I am on battery, it does not restart.
Does anyone know where this may come from?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Inspiron 13-7378 ambient light sensor?
Hi,
I bought an Inspiron 13-7378. I'm generally happy with it, but the backlight doesn't adjust automatically and the keyboard backlight also doesn't come on automatically. Does the 7378 have an ambient light sensor? Am I missing a driver?
Thanks,
Stefan
Video Editing: Dell XPS 15 / Precision 5000 Series / OR (APPARENTLY) A GAMING LAPTOP?!
Hello! and Help!
My MacBook Pro has finally died, and I am leaving Apple for good. I've spent the past week trying desperately to understand all of the options within options of PC laptops. My situation is this: I edit video and I want a powerful machine; I want smooth editing and professional finished products.
XPS and Precision are very similar and I am wondering if there is any benefit to shelling out for the Precision. After poking around on this website, I'm also newly concerned about a flickering screen issue that the XPS models seem to have. But I'm in love with them; they're beautiful.
Visiting Best Buy today, I was sure I had myself narrowed down to those two Dell computers. Then an employee suggested I consider an MSI Gaming Laptop (GS63VR STEALTH-252) on account of its GeForce GTX 1060 GPU (6GB), against the XPS' Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 (2GB).
The Stealth's hardware is pretty awful, and I don't think I'd be able to get past it, but it's troubling to know that there are options other than the XPS or Precision with more supportive GPUs.
So:
Any word on the Precision vs. the XPS 15'?
Is the screen flickering issue something to be worried about?
Are there other laptop options that will handle video better?
Bios password
I have a Dell laptop bought from a pawn shop and I need to get in the bios to change boot up settings to boot from a external cd.

Can a Bamboo Ink Smart Stylus work on a Dell Inspiron 13-5378 Signature Edition?
The stylus was able to connect to the laptop via wi-fi but was unable to function with the laptop. Whenever I pressed the top button of the stylus (to open up a drawing software), the stylus would just reconnect to the laptop. I also cannot draw anything with the stylus either.
Inspiron 15(7559) Completely Freezes, cannot turn off
While I was playing an online game, the keyboard suddenly stopped responding while the game was still otherwise running perfectly with mouse still responding. I closed the game and tried to turn the laptop off. However, even though the screen was off, the fans still continue running at high speed. I tried to press the power button to force shut down but had no effect. The laptop is still buzzing right now and it has been over 40 minutes. I guess I will have to wait until the battery is dead.
What is wrong with my laptop and what can I do? I need to do some important work to deal with serious deadlines. Please help me
Dell inspiron n5040 randomly shutting down Kernel Power 41 error
hi everyone,
im looking for clarification on a theory i have. so here is the situation.
i am trouble shooting at inspiron n5040 laptop. The laptop will not stay on longer then 10 mins WITH the power cord plugged in. Nor will it stay on on battery power alone. Now the pc tells me that the battery needs to be replaced, so i bought a new battery for this laptop. Same issue except the only difference is that with the new battery it no longer tells me it needs to be replaced.
Now event viewer is telling me that its a kernel Power 41 error. In my experience trouble shooting this its been the power supply is going bad. but since this is a laptop and it has a battery, im not sure how to go about replacing the "power supply" any thoughts???

No Partition/unallocated space

Vertical Docking for a laptop
Hi there.
I have a Latitude E5440 and a PRO3X docking station. both take a hefty amount of desktop space but rise only few centimeters above the desk. I was thinking of setting both in an upright position and clear up desk. just to clarify, I do not intend to use the laptop's built in monitor/keyboard etc. but use it as a "desktop PC" with a set of peripherals (monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers...).
I have not found any documentation to such a setup, and any help would be appreciated.
My questions are:
1. Is there a good way to mount the docking station to a wall/cabinet? I could not locate mounting slots for screws.
2. Is there a good way to secure the laptop once it's docked vertically?
My initial thought is the fasten the docking station so it'll sit below the laptop, supporting it in the vertical with it's locking mechanism.
Thanks in advance to whoever responds.
How To Remove Write Protection From A USB Pen Drive And Memory Card
Sometimes, you will come across a USB pen drive or an SD Card that simply does not let you write any new content onto it. Windows will tell you that the storage device is write protected even though you have not done anything to make it so. There is a switch that does make a drive write protected and for those who didn’t know about this, this is what you need to do.
The Switch
The switch as we’ve mentioned locks the drive such that one cannot carry out any write actions on it. You can still read the files on the drive however. This switch when set to locked, will keep the files on the drive safe from deletion and an accidental format. At times, you might be able to hit the delete operation, but the next time you check, the files will still be there. In some cases, the storage device might be actually broken physically or corrupted and in those cases, nothing can be done, however, in any other case, there are ways around the problem.
Regedit.exe is the executable software you will need for this and it runs on any version of Windows XP or later. Just type regedit in the search bar of the start menu and it should appear right at the top as the first option. It looks a lot like the File Explorer and therefore, you can use the left pane and navigate to “Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies “. Once there, double click on the WriteProtect value. Now, you can change the value from 1 to 0. Once the changes are saved, close the application and restart your machine. When re-connected, the storage device should be working normally.
StorageDevicePolicies
If for some reason, you are unable to find StorageDevicePolicies , you will need to create it by a right-click on the white space in the Control folder and choose New -> Key and entering the name StorageDevicePolicies. Now double-click on the new key that will show up as a folder , right click in the white space once again and choose New -> DWORD. Set this value to 0 and name it WriteProtect . Close the application and restart your machine. If this step still doesn’t resolve the problem, there is one more thing you can try.
Diskpart
For this step, attach the storage device to your computer and open a command prompt. You might need to open a command prompt with administrator privileges. You can do so, by a right-click on the start menu button. In the command prompt, type the following commands hitting enter after each of them.
"diskpart
list disk
select disk x (where x is the number of your non-working drive – use the capacity to work out which one it is)
attributes disk clear readonly
clean
create partition primary
format fs=fat32 (you can swap fat32 for ntfs if you only need to use the drive with Windows computers)
exit"
If your drive is still having the same problems, we regret to inform you that there is nothing more to be done besides purchasing a new device.

I also updated to the latest BIOS version and am now unable to configure Bitlocker. Has anyone heard when Dell plans to push a fix for this?
Inspirion 15 5000 2-in-1 (5578) camera specs.
Dear,
Does Inspiron 15 5000 Series 2-in-1 (5578) (E-Value-code: CN53802) contain an IR (infrared) camera ?
This model's description (see URL's below) states IR camera is optional, however nowhere in the order process the option can be selected. When system is added to shopping cart, detailed model description doesn't even show (IR) camera presence. Should I presume IR camera is standard ? Is a camera present at all?
Best regards.

XPS 13 9360 Clean Install "FN" function missing
I have successfully done a clean install of Windows 10 Creators Edition. However the "FN" key functions are not working. Does anyone know what specific package on the Support Downloads list enables this function? I don't want to reinstall all the Dell bloatware.
