Very happy about how Ubuntu 16.04.2 runs on my Latitude 5580.
One problem: the trackpoint and 3 buttons don't work after resume (they do on fresh boot). I filed a bug against the Ubuntu kernel, but may be someone here found a workaround or fix.
I'm running latest bios (1.4.3)

Yesterday, i turned on this notebook and configured the system. I have installed nothing that could cause such behavior.
That is it, there is no more info and this adds to the absurdity of trusting a company and being turned down.

Hi. Recently I bought new Dell latitude 5480-9187 with OS Ubuntu 16.04.
It new with OS from Dell without any software or drivers, just from box. All work perfect, but if I close lid, after wake up the pointstick dont work. I repeated this a few times, and every time result the same. And one time after open lid, not only pointstick stopped working but and touchpad too. To repair this I must reboot laptop.
I expected that new dell laptop must work without any magic from me.
I cant use laptop that able to stop working ant any time after a close lid!
Is it normal? And how fix it?
I have Dell inspiron series Intel core i3 processor. Till morning my laptop was working fine but after sometime when I checked on the led at it was blinking red indicating failure of battery status. During all this time my charger was connected to my laptop. When I removed my charger my system shut down and when I again plugged my charger and started it it is showing "Your battery has expired permanent failure and needs to be replaced press F1 to continue or something and Press F2 system setup"
I pressed F1 and continued it bt the reed blinking didn't go.
Any suggestions before going to replacement of the battery?

Hi, i was given a Dell Latitude E6520 laptop and i see that it has a smart card slot where i can insert a smart card and login into the laptop. i want to know what card are compatible or what cards can i use because i want to be able to login to the laptop by inserting a card and that is about all i want to be able to do with it. i am planning on purchasing the palmrest with the finger print reader which will also have the contact less reader but i don't plan to use that. what cards can i get to use for this purpose.

On my laptop above, I have just installed a new backlit keyboard to replace the old (non-backlit) keyboard.
The good news is that the backlighting works perfectly.
Once the laptop has been placed on the docking station, one can still type with the new keyboard. However with it on the docking station the backlighting is not working at all. Whatever I do; with it on the docking station there is no backlighting. As soon as I release it from the docking station the backlighting is operational again.
Please does anyone have similar issue with solution or can anyone provide some advice or solution. I would like to be able to use it on the docking station with backlighting operational

I've had a brand new XPS 15 for about 2 months now and have now recieved a Hard drive not installed error. I have had a blue screen of death a couple times now and the stop code was "unexpected store exception". I googled this and a potential error was that the start up drive could have issues with it.
I didn't get a chance to scan the drive as it crashed before that. Is there anything i can try other than sending it of to Dell or getting a replacement?
The model i have has a 512 Gb Toshiba SSD in AHCI mode with a fresh install of windows on it.
I have a DELL Inspiron 15R 5520 laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 installed and recently i'm having a problem regarding Intel Management Engine Interface Driver that has Error Code 10 ( This device cannot start ) along with a yellow mark on IMEI driver in Device Manager. I tried many things including updating IMEI driver to the latest version and also tried reflashing BIOS twice to A14 version which is the latest but nothing worked. Finally, i gave up on looking for a solution to that problem but i noticed that there is no negative impact on my laptop's performance and there are no beeps or error codes while running ePSA diagnostics or DELL Checkup test on the motherboard. Can i continue using my laptop for everyday usage and ignore that IMEI problem permanently? Should i be concerned or worried over this particular issue? Could that problem shorten my laptop's lifetime or cause serious problems on the long term ?
I had a new Latitude E7480 laptop hang during a TPM firmware update today. I have updated several other laptops with the same USB drive created for the process. The update hung at the point where there was text on the screen that the TPM update was in progress and to not power off the computer. The progress meter never advanced past zero percent. I could not warm boot the laptop nor power off the laptop by holding the power button down. After several hours the laptop is still hung at that point. Any suggestions?

Ok I have an Inspiron 14z 5423 and had windows 10 installed on it. Dell never gave me a backup disk and well the drivers disks I did receive were for a latitude not a inspiron. At this point I realized that the 14z 5423 is not meant to have windows 10 on it, and runs sluggish on mine. I would like to find out how to get a windows 7 factor reset. I do think it is ridiculous that even though I have a Windows 7 code that I do not have a windows 7 disk. I paid over $500 for the machine.
It has ran slow since I installed windows 10.I do not think that the laptop officially supports windows 10, however I have no drivers disks for it. I need to know how to reinstall windows 7 with NO DISK. Is there a way to download it? I own a OEM code for it, I jut need toe install disk.

You are facing power issue do one things remove battery from laptop and check properly battery slot is working ok and you can check your battery with other laptop it's working or not. Otherwise your laptop still under warranty so you can replace your laptop battery from company.

I have a Dell Inspiron 14 5459, core i7, 4GB RAM,
The laptop runs Ubuntu GNOME 17.04.
I always used to get random full freezes and I had to do a forced shutdown.
Most of the times the laptop doesn't turn on, the screen is blank and the power indicator flashes like so:
Two times Orange and four times White. This keeps on going until I turn off the laptop.
I had to wait a while (maybe half a hour) only then it will turn on normally.
Recently, when the laptop froze, I couldn't turn it on even after 12 hours (happened at night, tired to turn on in the morning), I waited for 40 minutes - 1 hour but it still didn't turn on, the power indicator kept on flashing.
So I tried to do a hard reset by removing the AC adapter, battery and the button cell and I pressed and hold the power button for 1 minute or so.
After putting back all the things and when I tried to turn it on, the laptop still shows a blank screen, but the fan goes full speed and the power indicator flashes two times orange and four times white. I tried may ways like AC power only or battery powered only but ended up with the same result.
Can someone tell me what the flashing power indicator means? And how to fix it?

With the new models 5580/5480 I have observation that the machine Touchpad /Mouse doesn't work although with external mouse we can make it work during the WINPE mode .
I tried injecting the keyboard/Touchpad drivers to my winPE but still it doesn't recognize unless the OS with the drivers is fully loaded. Your suggestion would be really required here.
6e generation Intel® Core™ i5 (Intel Core i5-6600 ) windows 7 where I am trying Win7 On it.
Nic recognizes the Task sequence well but to select I use "Tab Key" of keyboard but the mouse or touchpad doesn't work unless Full OS and Drivers are installed .
Please suggest which driver is missing as in Dell downloads I couldn't find any relevant file.

My XPS 15 9550 has swollen battery – touchpad is lifted by 2mm and left right click don’t work. I have called technical support and after a while they told me that I can arrange pickup of my laptop to fix it and it will take 15-20 work days. So far so good (well 20 work days is no good but never mind). But trouble is that right now I am working abroad for couple of months, and technical support informed me that there is no way of me sending laptop for them from outside UK. In my opinion they should just send me even to my UK work address new battery and I will be able to switch them, do you think it is an option? To be honest spending 1,8k GBP on laptop and not being able to get any help is bit disturbing. Oh and ofcourse link to international support service from their site doesnt work.
