Laptop Inspiron - No boot device found - problem started after Windows 10 Creators Update

Dear Dell,

Yesterday my laptop Inspiron 14- 5459 was automatically updated with Windows 10- creators update. After successful updating and restart, I was working for some time on the laptop.  Then I tried restarting the laptop. The laptop didn't restart properly. It kept on showing the black screen post dell logo display. I tried repairing the windows using the windows 10 Home edition 64 bit recovery medium and even after installing it, no boot device message is displayed. Previously before repairing the window, when epsa diagnosis was run, no hard ware issue were found.

Can you please let me know how resolve this. My service tag has technical support in warranty. Can someone call. And clarify.

Thanks in advance.

Dual booting Windows 10 and Ubuntu 17.04 on NVMe SSD - Dell Inspiron 7567

Hi All,

I received my Inspiron 7567 Laptop yesterday. It has 512 GB Toshiba NVMe SSD. Windows 10 is preloaded on the laptop. SATA is set to RAID 0 in the BIOS.

I downloaded and created a bootable usb drive for Ubuntu 17.04 using Rufus. Tried installing Ubuntu from usb. Laptop didn't detect the usb. Disabled the secure boot and changed the SATA to ACHI in the Bios. After this, I was able to install Ubuntu 17.04 along with Windows 10 in the free space of 30 GB which was created by shrinking the C drive.

But after ubuntu installation was completed, I was able to login into Ubuntu when as SATA is set to ACHI. But Windows 10 failed with error "no bootable device found". I changed the SATA to RAID 0, then Ubuntu 17.04 doesn't load.

I restored the laptop to factory setting. Still the Ubuntu Grub remains in the system. Currently I have changed the boot order to 'Windows boot manager' in boot sequence. I am able to login into Windows 10 successfully.

I would like guidance on setting up Windows 10 and Ubuntu 17.04 in dual boot mode. I already have a working Inspiron 5520 laptop which has Windows 10 and Ubuntu 17.04 in dual boot mode. But it has HDD.

I never knew I will run into issues (dual boot) while ordering NVMe SSD. Any help/guidance in this matter is highly appreciated.

Regards,

Joseph M

Dell Inspiron 14-5447 Not Getting Through Startup

I've been trying for the past couple days to get fix my younger brother's Inspiron 14-5447 laptop.  It currently runs Windows 10 and shipped with Windows 8.1.  It currently will not get through startup. After sitting a the initial Dell splash screen for a long time it will finally BSOD with a Driver Power State Failure code.  It will then try to go into recovery mode but will sit at the loading screen and not actually reach the recovery options screen. The unit has been on Windows 10 since it was free to update for Windows 7 and 8 users to do so and has been fine for the past 2 years.

The unit has been on Windows 10 since it was free to update for Windows 7 and 8 users to do so and has been fine for the past 2 years.  I can only assume that the drivers are up to date, or are only updated when they make their way into a Windows update at the very least.

What makes the problem truly annoying is that the keyboard on the unit and all keyboards, wired or wireless, that I have tried to use are not recognized by the device,  There is no way to force the unit to enter the BIOS or UEFI options.  The caps lock key on the keyboard in the laptop itself will blink when most keys on the keyboard are pressed, but that is the very limit of reaction from the device from the keyboard.

I took the unit apart and found that the battery the CMOS battery all appear to be in working order.  The CMOS battery read the correct amperage and voltage when I put a voltmeter to it, and there is no visual damage to the battery or its connectors.  I did try to replace the HDD, but all I got from the unit was a Check Media Failure and still no way into the BIOS.

So now I'm not at a loss.  The unit is well out of warranty, but it is a great computer when it works.  It's also the only computer my brother has so I'd like to fix it if I can.  If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful.

Laptop won't start

Hi guys,

I'm an owner of a Dell laptop model Inspiron 15-5559, i5 6200 (service tag id 5KX8GC2). It was directly bought online via the Dell site and it is still on warranty.

I wanted to turn on the laptop today, and it won't start. It is plugged in but the the power light is not on. I tried to disconnect the AC adapter and took off the battery, hold the start button for 30 secs, the laptop is still dead.

The laptop is used for business purposes so it is essential to be fixed as soon as possible.

Thank you,

ilias

Initial booting takes a lot of time on Dell Inspiron 15R

Hello experts,

I had replaced the stock DVD drive on the Dell Inspiron 15R with an internal HDD and the system has been working very well.

However, after the replacement, it takes a lot of time for the computer to move past the initial Dell logo screen while the internal drive's LED is lit up.

Quite sure that something can be changed in the BIOS to make sure that the internal drive doesn't get read when the computer boots up everytime.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time in advance.

Dell Inspiron 17R SE Battery Issue? Turns off when only using battery

Hey there,

I've been using my upgraded Inpiron 17R SE happily for a couple of years by now. I've even gone as far as buying an 128GB SSD to futureproof it. This is the only drive - besides the DVD drive - currently present in the laptop. However I've had an issue for quite a while:

Whenever I try to boot the Laptop only using the Battery (even fully charged) it Posts then loads Windows and turns of just before the Login-Screen (I can't see it). When I proceed to turn it back on, it Posts then beeps and says that there is a Real Time Clock Error and gives me the option to proceed booting or to enter Setup.

This however doesn't occur when using the Power-Brick. Moreover it isn't always the case. Sometimes the Laptop boots and works fine just using the battery, but then upon opening a Programm (while under battery-power) it shuts of and gives the same error message again. If it decides to work the battery still lasts for 2-2.5 hours.

I'm really confused to what the problem is. It could be a power delivery problem, but it's still the original battery and laptop with only the HDD changed to a SSD.

I'm aware of it being a rather old machine, but selling it is my only hope for getting a new laptop for college, but I can't sell it in this state.

I'm at a lost and really really sad because of this issue. I'm sorry for any typos or grammar mistakes, I'm a non native english speaker.

Hi

My laptop (Inspiron 15 5567) has currently 4GB RAM. I want to add another 8 GB.

I am not sure which one to buy. The description on Dell Support says

"DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 4GB, 2400, 1RX16, 8G, DDR4, S"

I have no idea how to search for this configuration with 8GB.

Please help.

Thanks and regards

I bought three of these laptops from Costco for my business because the great price and specs.  One of the units is kept at a remote location, and I use TeamViewer to access it.  I disabled all power management features except for turning off the screen.

It repeatedly/consistently goes blank when I'm away, where not only is the screen off but the computer disconnects from the internet and is offline in TeamViewer.  When I physically get to to computer to see what's wrong, the laptop is still powered on but the screen is off.  Nothing will get the screen to come back on, and the only option is to hard reboot the computer by holding in the power button.

I ran Dell's Diagnostic tests, and everything checked out as "good".

Has anyone experienced and corrected this type of problem?

Latitude does not power on

Hi,

I have a Latitude E6430 laptop. It was working perfectly until recently, but started to show some issues with powering on.

After being shut down or on sleep mode for a long time (more than 3-4 hours), the laptop won't power on. When the power button is pressed, it lights up, and after few seconds, the LED turns off and does nothing. Not even the Dell screen splash is shown. I've tried removing the battery & AC power and pressing the power button for 30+ seconds and powering on, removing all drives and powering on, swapping RAM modules, and re-attaching the CMOS battery. None of them worked.

Only thing that worked is removing the main battery and AC power for couple of hours and then powering on. Then the laptop will power on and boot and function properly (until it is powered off or put into sleep mode again).

Now, being an old computer, I understand there can be hardware issues. Any suggestions to resolve this issue is welcome. Thank you in advance!

Battery Issue

So, I bought the Alien ware R2 15 inches from 2016. After about like a 8 months, it shows "Battery is permanently damaged and needs to be replaced. But I can still use it while charging so I use it until I got a new one which was last 2 weeks ago. I bought  the battery from Singapore an official DELL shop and I replaced the batteries. It was charging for 2 hours, then it showed the same thing again. "Battery is permanently damaged and needs to be replaced. So I couldn't use it without the electricity. I am scared this might happen another time if I buy another sets of battery and that I live in Myanmar so buying one is hard. Please give me suggestions on how to handle this. Thank you!

Dell Inspiron 5552 Motherboard failure (again)

Back in November of 2015, I purchased 2 Dell Inspiron 15 5552 laptops for my twin daughters for Christmas.

In July of 2016, one of my daughter's laptops died and would beep 7 times (what the internet likes to call the 7 beeps of death).  After getting in touch with customer service they determined it was a motherboard failure and had me send in the laptop for repair.  The laptop was returned a couple of weeks later with a new motherboard and a new power supply and all has been fine until last week.

Last week, less than a year after the motherboard replacement/repair and of course 6 months after the warranty has expired, the same laptop has once again had a motherboard failure.  I called Dell's out of warranty repair service and they want over $270.00 to repair the laptop which is more than what I actually paid for the thing in the first place!  Not to mention that if i get it repaired, they will only warranty the repair for 90 days!

Now my husband and I have been loyal Dell customers for over 10 years and this is the 6th computer we've purchased from them and I need to be honest, this is the last time I will ever purchase another Dell computer.  In my opinion, this is a design flaw and I just want to make everyone aware that Dell's quality has gone down the drain.

DELL XPS 13 9360 - WiFi problems

Hi,

I received a new DELL XPS 13 9360 with Win 10 for my Sales Dept. Unfortunately when I try to connect to any WiFi network I get a blue screen with this message IRQL_UNEXPECTED_VALUE. All drivers are up to date and there is no additional software installed. When I have it connected on LAN (dock station WD15) I can connect to WiFi but when I unplug laptop from docking station and it switch to WiFi there is the same story with blue screen. Any idea how to fix this issue? Thank you in advance.

Dell XPS 15 9550 + TB16

Hi All - I just got a TB16 to replace my old USB3 dock that had dead USB ports on it. I have followed the information in the TB16 setup guide, the driver installation guide and tried a lot of different things. The TB Controller is enabled and security is disabled in BIOS. I also turned on all the checkbox options in BIOS, and have toggled them on and off to make sure they are actually turned on.

None of the USB ports on the new TB16 work, the sound ports do not work, and the NIC does not work. I am able to get the display ports working (using both right now, connected to USB powered Dual-Link DVI adapters connected to my good old 3007WFPs).

I have tried several "down rev" versions of the USB controller driver that is provided by Dell. I cannot even see any evidence of USB devices when the TB16 is connected with the 240W power adapter connected. However, if I unplug the 240W power adapter from the TB16, I do see some USB devices pop up, but they don't work. I have tried leaving the dock disconnected from everything for 4 days and then connecting the power adapter to it, then connecting the laptop. That did no good either.

I also tried using the recommended "disable WiFi" fix that was posted here in the forums. That made no difference. It makes no difference if the laptop is off and powered up with the lid closed or with the lid open. I also cannot use a USB keyboard connected to the TB16 on the bitlocker prompt screen, regardless what port it is connected to.

I'm starting to think this thing was DOA. Please help.

Dell Latitude E6410 problem with backlit keyboard when using Eport

Dear colleagues

On my laptop above, I have just installed a new backlit keyboard to replace the old (non-backlit) keyboard.

The good news is that the backlighting works perfectly.

Once the laptop has been placed on the docking station, one can still type with the new keyboard. However with it on the docking station the backlighting is not working at all. Whatever I do; with it on the docking station there is no backlighting. As soon as I release it from the docking station the backlighting is operational again.

Please does anyone have similar issue with solution or can anyone provide some advice or solution. I would like to be able to use it on the docking station with backlighting operational

With thanks,

Ian

Display stopped working- HDMI works....BIOS not updating?

$

My 3 year old Inspiron 7537 (Service tag: 56H5812) w/ Windows 8, which until this time had been 100% problem free recently would not turn on. I would press the power button and nothing would happen (even w/ AC adapter plugged in)- even the charging indicator would not turn on. This was the case even when I tried using a friend's charger. I left the system pluggged in for a few hours and it eventually began to charge and has since been turning on reliably w/ either battery or AC adapter power.

The bigger problem is that since this time the LCD does not display any image at any time- not even a very faint one. Interestingly enough, the HDMI output still works fine (currently typing this w/ the laptop plugged into my TV). Also, the touchscreen somehow continues to work flawlessly. I.e when the laptop is plugged into my TV if I touch center of the (blank/dark) laptop screen it shows up on the TV as that part of the screen being touched.

My immediate reaction to these issues was to check for updates. I performed all available Windows updates and then I logged onto the dell website and used System Detect and the "detect drivers" options to find appropriate drivers and updates for my machine. A BIOS update was identified (7537A14.exe, A14).

I have spent hours trying to update the BIOS but keep getting either an "ERROR: Unknown or invalid AC & DC power condition." This happens with the AC adapter plugged in (including when I use my friend's). It persists even when I try to execute the BIOS update from command prompt as an "administraor" using the "-forceit" +/- "-forcetype" modifiers. I have even tried taking out the battery and just running straight off AC adapter (again, trying my friend's as well) but still receive the same message. Does anyone have any other ideas as to how to update the BIOS?

Will either of these updates even even possibly help get the screen to start displaying again? (that's my main goal)? Can anyone offer any other solutions for the problem of my LCD not working (w/ HDMI and touchscreen) working?

Thank you so much and sorry for the long post.

Track stick and Cursor Issues on the E6320

I am having trouble turning off the Track Stick as well as the 3 Track Stick Buttons. I don't use them and want them to remain turned off. Previously I have gotten computer technicians to turn off these features but eventually the Track Stick becomes active again.

Related to this problem is the problem that while I am typing the cursor will move on its own back up into the text creating numerous spelling errors.

Also, when the cursor is on an option it may click automatically without my taking any action.
