Remapping Ctrl to Caps Lock keyboard problems
Hi there. I'm an owner of a 2016 Dell XPS 13. It's a wonderful machine except for some issues I'm running into remapping the Caps Lock with Ctrl.
I'm a developer and I by far use Ctrl way more than Caps Lock, so over the years I have grown used to remapping the key. Right now I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 and through Gnome Tweaks > Typing there's a few ways to remap or swap the Caps Lock key.
For the most part, it works just fine. However I have run into some weird issues.
* Certain key combinations just aren't registered. Such as Shift-Ctrl-2, Shift-Ctrl-W, Shift-Ctrl-S, and Shift-Ctrl-X (using the physical Caps Lock remapped key). I noticed this when some keyboard mappings weren't recognized. They work just fine with the original Shift-Ctrl-key but when I remap Ctrl, nothing is happens. I can also test this out in Ubuntu's console by running the `xev` command.
* Sometimes Ctrl-whateverkey sticks and repeats indefinitely, even when I pull my fingers from the keyboard. One example I randomly run into is Ctrl-S which I do throughout the day to save a document.
I've searched the internet, and I've made sure my BIOS is fully updated through the Windows partition and the dell update utilities, but I haven't found any fixes to this.

Dell XPS 13 9350 Touchpad Right and Left Click not working
The right and left click of my XPS 13 9350 touchpad stopped working. The taps still work however
I don't think it's a driver issue. Is there any solution for this? Thank you

Dell Inspiron 15 5547 right side hinge issues
A friend and I purchased Dell Inspiron 15 5547 in August 2015 together. Within 5 months my friend's laptop's hinge got broken. Since it was in warranty Dell replaced it in 2 weeks. I didn't face any issue then. But since past few months I noticed a click sound when opening or closing the laptop. It didn't take time to figure out the right hinge of the laptop was defective and because of that the area near power button started popping out. I read several posts on similar issues with this laptop and was wondering if Dell will replace and fix it because of the manufacturing defect. The laptop is about 2 years old now. I'm currently using a paper clip to keep the things in place and not break it.

Latitude 5480 and M.2 PCIe SSD size
Dell Latitude 5480 Owner's Manual - Storage Specifications states: SSD M.2 SATA / PCIe - Up to 512 GB.
Is 512 GB a real technical limitation? Would it mean that Samsung 960 EVO 1 TB NVMe would not be recognized by BIOS, but Samsung 960 EVO 500 GB NVMe would?

I have a win 7 Cd here ? No good for this.

I was wishing to fix this up for my 88 year old mom to see things on ..in her care facility. She and other elderly people there would benefit greatly from this laptop in so many ways. It's hard with the distance and only seeing checking on her via phone calls -this laptop might be the solution to making sure she's ok and taken care of.
Can someone be a hero and help me?

Problems with screen and can't run diagnostic test- can't install dell system detect
Hi there, I had my XPS 13' since 2013 and have been experiencing problems with my screen for probably over a year now and the problem appears more often these days.
All of a sudden the screen looks like on the attached image (full of lines, changed colours, can't read text, shaking) and often times the only way to get rid of it is a restart.
I tried to figure out what could I do, but I can't run diagnostic tests because I can't install the Dell System Detect. I get the following message: There was a problem with the diagnostics application. Please restart your computer and try again or reinstall the latest version of the application.
And to top all this, I've been also having the 'windows not turning off' issue a few days ago. Got that one miraculously solved, but why is all this c...p happening?
I am not an IT geek and figuring out what is happening, could be the issue seems to be taking up serious amount of my time, so any help would be very welcome!

Dell precision 5510 battery problem
Hi, I've purchased a Dell precision M5510 and it was delivered to me on 23/6/2016 and it's been working well since then .. but lately my trackpad got very stiff and hard to cilck .. I opened it up, found out that the battery has 3 kind of inflamed cells out of 6, when I remove the battery the trackpad clicks fine, put the battery back in, becomes stiff!!
Why did the battery do so? the machine is fairly new and I mainly use the wall power and I don't use the battery much!!
so first, what should I do, I don't think there are Dell maintenance centers in Egypt that can handle this particular model (I bought it from amzon US)
second, what's the best practice for maintaining battery health?
third, I often play games on this machine, and the temperatures of both cpu and gpu average at about 78 C for most of the gaming session, I believe it's reasonable and safe, or isn't it?
Btw, battery health is still good, does about 6~8 hours, also my warranty is over :(
The swelling in the 3 cells looks like some kind of a fluid or gas, that I am resisting the temptation to pop with a needle or something.

New XPS 15 9560 memory or ram failure.
Hi. I've just received yesterday my new xps 15 9560 and it ran perfectly during the first boot. However, today I wanted to turn it on and it won't do it. When I press the power button, it lits up for one second and then turns off. Immediately after this, the battery status light blinks amber two times and white four times. According to dell's service manual, this means memory or ram failure. I do not know what to do. Can you help me?

I am in need of some help please. I just got delivered a new latitude laptop for a new member of staff arriving tomorrow! I tried to set up as and organisation owned laptop, so I typed in my microsfot 365 details as it asked me to, then the name of my employee - now its asking me foe 'other user' email and password - just to get into the laptop, like mine does when it locks after a few minutes. I don't know what email or password to use..... I have tried mine, but that doesn't work. I'm at my wits end and in tears as these simple jobs always turn into loads of hassle! I should have just set it up as owned by her. Can anyone help - can I reset the laptop so it goes back to factory settings and I can start again... :(

Power issue on dell xps l521x
This has been doing my head in for a year now.
My laptop (a14 bios), completely fresh windows 10 pro installation, all drivers correctly installed, refuses to shut down (pressing thebpower button or selecting shutdown in windows). The laptop will start powering down then halt with the hard drive still spinning but screen off. If i select restart in windows ...guess what... it shuts down (does not restart).
I have reinstalled windows, updates drivers, chexked power settings in windows, nothing helps...the only thing running on the laptop is windows 10 pro...
The a16 bios will not correctly install (downloaded from thebsupport section using the service tag).
What next to sort this ?

HID sensor collection: This device cannot start. (Code 10) Failed to initialize sensor from HID collection descriptor.
I have tried a few different windows images, windows troubleshooting feature, and the latest versions of the drivers.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, disabling and re-enabling, re-imaging, updating windows. None have had the effect of actually making it work. I'm running win 10.0.10240, on dell latitude 5285 and 5289. This is affecting the entire Intel Integrated Sensor Solution Driver and all the included sensors, compass, accelerometer, gyroscope GPS and ambient light.

I would like to resolve this so that we can order tablets and have them work right in our org.

Dell Inspiron 15 5566
My laptop got wet a couple of weeks ago and when i took it to geek squad it worked. I got home and a few days after my laptop wouldn't turn on and it made 4 beeps. The screen won't turn on at all, I've tried all the tricks on here. I took out the battery and connected the charger and pressed the "on" button and it did the same thing, just 4 beeps.
any one has an idea what this is? and how much is the average to get this fixed?

Alienware 17" R4 not booting
Hi,
My Alienware R4 is less than 12 months old. I was using it this morning, then went back to open it up and had cpu lights on but no monitor. .
I performed a hard reset . Keyboard and logo lights came on, but none of the four power/processor lights on the top left of the keyboard came on.
It's my work computer - so please help!

Dell laptop hinge bezel cracks on left side
Has anyone else seen this problem. I've had two laptops and nearly 14 months (4 months after warranty expiration), the left hinge plastic bezel has cracked. I suspect this is a universal problem as I've met with other laptop owners who have experienced the same thing at nearly the same time....just after warranty expiration.
I know that in nearly all manufacturers of laptops that this is occurring and oddly nearly all are the left hinge bezel/plastic. HP customers, I believe, have launched a class action lawsuit.
Is there a class action lawsuit against Dell for this same problem? It sounds like all manufacturers are getting their laptop hinge bezels from the same place. This is a problem that Dell needs to address...immediately.
