Dell Latitude E6440 - Windows 10 (not from a Dell windows 10 CD but a genuine CD, genuine serial etc.)- SSD etc.

I believe I have "Desktop mode" enabled.. how it happened I have no clues.  But I cant find anywhere to disable it..

My battery meter shows 56% plugged in but not charging. Ran battery diagnostics comes up as fine.

I've been googling for about 4 days now and tried numerous things - but they are all relate to Inspiron, nothing to do with Latitudes.

I've tried checking power options, right clicking on the battery icon on toolbar, checked control panel, tried installing quickset (which wont work on this machine), I've tried everything google has to offer

I have a fresh install of Windows 10 on this laptop fully patched, and installed all apps/drivers I could find on Dell...

Any clues as to what I need to install? or where I can find this shi+ option that nobody would use?

I am having two problems with my dell xps 15 9550. My comprehensive warranty ran out last November 2016,  and being a student, I cannot afford to use dell's out-of-warranty diagnostic which will set me back over 30 euros. 

I have xps 15 with 4k setup bought at launch. 

PROBLEM 1

My touchpad is un-clickable when laptop gets a bit hot. 

The touchpad literally protrudes from the palm rest and both left/right click keys cannot be pressed anymore. It is especially worse on the left side of touchpad. It started happening a month or so ago. At the beginning, I noticed it happened under intensive usage (e.g. gaming), now it is happening any time the system is turned on or in sleep mode. When I completely turn off the system, it goes back to normal state. 

After a quick google-ing and reading the repair manual, it looks like it is the problem with battery. And I feel unsafe using this extremely pricey laptop given the extreme consequences of battery explosions in the news recently.

On a side note, I only have ever gotten like 3 hours of battery life using Chrome on 4k display with minimum brightness since the beginning. 

Can someone please help me with the battery issue as to where I can get replacement, support, etc? 

I have googled and couldn't really find any useful/good site to get a replacement battery in UK and dell's official site do not sell replacement batteries. 

PROBLEM 2

The screen also comes out of the frame while using. This is not as serious problem as potentially explosive battery, but I would have expected a better built quality for £1600 piece of hardware.

I didn't find the WiFi driver for the model Dell Vostro 1014. I had used to search for my service tag. I had installed the driver listed for my Service Tag.

But it is not working. Kindly help me to install WiFi driver. Please find the service tag below:

My XPS 15 9530 that is almost 3 years old has just started playing up today and is not turning on. The battery indication lights on the side are normal and all lit. When I press the power button the light onnit lights up for a few seconds but there's no booting up noise. Nothing happens. Then the light turns off. I don't have the correct tools at the moment to do the battery trick so until I can get my hands on a Torx screwdriver I just want to confirm that the battery trick will most likely work/what the problem is. Thanks.

Hello,

Recently I closed my Dell XPS 13 and set it down on tbe floor. When I tried to turn it on again, the screen remained black. I thought that was weird so I turned off my laptop and restarted it. The power button light came on and the light on the keyboard came on, but my screen remains blank. I performed the power button+D test and I see a bunch of lights, so I think that test was successful.

My warranty ran out and I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Help?

Hi, I just bought the Dell Inspiron 2in1 couple of months back and started having the problem of waving / flickering of screen. This flickering is more towards right side of screen and starts from there, but with time moves on to the whole screen. After restart it disappears for some time.

                         When I checked the graphics setting, the refresh rate is set at 60 pHz by default. When I changed the refresh rate to only other option of 48 pHz, problem is gone for now. Can some suggest what could be the problem, whether it is a software issue or hardware problem. What is the possible fix ? Thanks

Hello,

6th Gen Intel Quad-Core i5-6300HQ Processor up to 3.2GHz
8GB DDR3
256GB SSD
Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M
Windows 10

I have the above mentioned laptop, and I have noticed that it struggles running multiple programs at once. I bought it with the hope that I would be able to stream me playing a game on it, however it can struggle to have a game and a simple internet browser open at the same time. Does anyone have any ideas of how to upgrade this laptop to help it pull the heavy load.

I have purchased a new battery for my dell inspiron 5559 core i7 Laptop. I'm from Sri Lanka and there is no Dell store to buy genuine products. Therefore I have got a battery but it's recognised as a  Dell Battery from "DELL POWER MANAGER LIGHT" Here is screen shot of the application

As u can see there is no battery settings available now. 

Why is that? What can I do to solve this?

I have ordered the carry handles for my FD to use these devices and for the life of me I can't tell how you put them on. looking at the few directions I find online, I'm going to try to put a round peg in a square hole, Help Me what am I missing?

Hello

FOr some reason, my dell inspiron 7548 trackpad driver reverted to a generic driver and I can no longer configure two finger gestures. The website based on the Service Tag points to a Unifying Driver from Logitech that doesn't seem to make sense, and asks for a small usb receiver. Any suggestions?

Brand new Alienware 17 R4 BSOD

Out of the box my new R4 BSODs when accessing live.com email on edge and on Chrome.  It seems to only happen when surfing through my live.com email.  Around 10 mins of surfing will trigger it.  I have already tried uninstalling dell support service and programs from the problems in the R3 and also uninstalling Onedrive but still crashes.

If I don't surf MS live.com it's fine.  I have also run all the diagnostics tests on the Dell support site.

Hi everyone, im asking for help to see if there is a way to start my laptop without lcd display, i already connected a external display through the hmdi cable and unmounted the internal lcd of the laptop but the 8 beeps still present.

Hello all

I have a Dell Inspiron N5050 preloaded with Win7 starter.

Since yesterday it boots the Dell splash screen then rebootsbto the dell splash screen and so forth.

I have performed all the on board diagnostic tests with no error.

I am not able to enter safe mode as it doesn't get that far nor have any changes been made to the system

The hdd doesn't make unusual sounds and when I booted using hiren it accessed the hdd no issues.

Could the windows installation be whacked?

Any ideas?

I have been tasked with rebuilding a handful of old(ish) Dell E6330 laptops. All with the same hardware specs, 7 series/C216 chipset family. I am losing sleep over this and could really use a fresh perspective.

 I am starting from a base Win 7 64 bit OS, provided by Dell. I have been able to update all of the drivers including BIOS except the "Intel 3.0 extensible host controller" whenever i try to install it, it gives me the BSOD just after installation.

 When i go into device manager, it shows installed, but none of the usb 3.0 ports work (which is all of them). However, when i hook the laptop up to a docking station, i can get the 2.0 ports to work, so i have a work around.

 I noticed that after i get the BSOD, under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" in device manager, there is a Unknown Device listed in there. Though there is no yellow exclamation identifying there is something wrong, when i open it, it says "No drivers are installed for this device" when i select update driver it says the best driver software for your device is already installed (Intel R USB 3.0 Root Hub).

 

Any help is appreciated!

When a game is played less than 30 seconds screen dims on laptop, how is this stopped?, tried power adjustments but nothing...thanks in advance.

Hi,

My 7520 will charge until the battery reaches 100 % after that it won't keep it charged and the battery drains until it is dead, even with the charger plugged in. After a while (a day or two) I can plug the charger back in and it will start charging, but only after it died. If I plug in the charger in at say 50% it will not begin to charge.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

First unit received.  SD chip will not go all the way into the slot.  Dell sends a replacement computer.  SD chip will not all the way into the slot.  SD chip can be read on both units.

Many conversations with Dell.  They say this is the way this machine is being made and it is working the way it should.

I have had many Dells and other computers and have never seen another computer like this.  Can't imagine that Dell thinks this is correct.

Sending both back and will buy something else.

Any comments?  Am I off base?
