D830 bios A04 update?

$

Looks like I haven't been on here since 2009.  I have learned I know much less than I did then.

Is there a chance that I can learn what effect updating the bios of my Latitude D830 with A04 would be?

XPS 13 high-pitch beeping & 3 repair attempts

$

I got a XPS 13 2 in 1 that I received on Feb 13th of this year.
I noticed immediately a high pitch beep going out of the right side. I did some research and found nothing about it online. It happened rarely and wasn't all that loud so I didn't think much of it. Over time it became more and more loud and frequent to the point that I stopped using the laptop completely because the random high pitch half second beeps would scare the *** out of me (I would literally jump out of my seat and swear. I wouldn't be surprised if it was near 100 decibels at this point since my girlfriend heard it on the opposite side of the house 4 rooms away).

I exhausted everything I knew to try and by this point I noticed some forum posts about this issue so I contacted support on April 3rd thinking it was now a known defect and not something that a new driver or firmware update would fix (my reason for waiting, I did buy the laptop the 1st day it came out). They gave me a list of things to try (stuff I already tried, I've worked in IT for nearly 20 years). I ship the laptop out to Dell for the 1st time. I tell them it's likely a hardware issue under the enter/backspace key. I hear it even with the speakers at 0%.

I get it back and all they did was reinstalled the OS for some reason.

The issue was still there (because it's a hardware defect) so I sent it in again.

I got the laptop back the 2nd time with the motherboard replaced. The issue was still there along with a dead pixel on the screen that wasn't there previously. I talked with support many times and sent pictures of the deal pixel and eventually they said they would replace the screen as well. I shipped out the laptop for the 3rd time and put all this in the work order.

I got the laptop back a couple days ago for the 3rd time and they stated that they replaced the plastics and the hard drive. The beeping was now much quieter although still audible. It's about as loud as a spinner drive. The beeping was quieter when I first got the laptop as well, this was my reason for not reporting this issue within the first 30 days. They didn't replace the screen because the dead pixel was still there along with many more dead pixels. I counted 9+ deal pixels and sent pictures of each. The L in the DELL logo on the top of the laptop was missing. The bottom of the laptop is all scraped up in the center and around the screws from being worked on.

I emailed Dell with many images of all my issues. After a couple days of no response I called Dell but was transferred between tech support and refunds department that couldn't do anything to help me besides more repairs that will inevitably fail or put more wear and tear on the laptop that I have barely used. They could keep doing this until my warranty runs out and I'm screwed so I did some research.

I believe this should be covered under the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act a.k.a. Lemon Law but no one at Dell seems to understand California state law nor do they have the authority to issue refunds past the first 30 days.

Besides the loud beeping, dead pixels, and overheating causing throttling the laptop has been awesome but at this point I'm sick of looking at. I'm sick of shipping it out and reinstalling my apps. I haven't used the laptop in nearly 2 months due to these issues meaning the laptop has been unused more than I've used it. Dell doesn't seem to think my time is worth anything. I got the laptop for travel but I went on vacation and didn't have my laptop.

I'm not sure what to do at this point. Hopefully posting this to a public forum will make this issue more visible. Here is that forum post with others having the same problem, this is clearly a hardware defect and some people there are having similar problems with it not being resolved.

Fan Error Code M1001

Hi.  I have a E4310 laptop that has recently been giving me an boot error of M1001 saying there is a fan malfunction.  Looking in the BIOS I see several instances in the thermal section saying that Fan 1 has stopped.  When I get the error code on boot, I am able to hit F1 to continue the boot.  The CPU fan seems to be working ok (eg I hear it running and hot air is coming out of the vent).  The BIOS is current.

I presume the CPU fan is about to give it up and will need to be replaced but am leaving this post just in case I'm missing something else.

Thanks!

Bluetooth instability

Dell Inspiron 3148 laptop running Windows 10 Creators update (1703).

In Device Manager,  the Bluetooth (BT) speaker was uninstalled. These items remain: Dell Wireless 1708 BT 4.0 LE Device, Microsoft BT Enumerator and Microsoft BT LE Enumerator.   (Windows will redetect them if they are removed.)  Windows and Dell BT troubleshooters were run.

A BT speaker was turned on, and it connected -once.  Thereafter, as the speaker reports "device pair successful"  Windows crashes.

Next the recommended Dell (Broadcom) 7348_Network_Driver_Y0PT8_WN32_12.0.1.716_A02.EXE software was installed.  (Version A03 was also tested.)

It appears to add many features, under the heading Bluetooth Virtual Devices in Device Manager.  No crashes, and the connection occasionally succeeds, sometimes even detecting the BT speaker automatically.  But often it fails.  In Windows Action Center the BT speaker lists "driver error" or "that didn't work,  make sure your BT device is still discoverable, then try again."

Also tested the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 Bluetooth Application shown in the Dell 3148 drivers list.  No joy.  The remaining BT item in the Dell list, Intel PROSet/Wireless 7265 Buletooth (sic) Driver,  won't install.

How can this corruption and grief be overcome?

XPS 13 2IN1 9365 Thunderbolt 3 Issue

I just bought a new XPS 13 2IN1 9365 laptop. I have a Thunderbolt 3 external graphic card. I connect the XPS to the external graphic card via its Thunderbolt port. But the XPS's thunderbolt is not working. It cannot find the external display card. I called for technical service and the technical guy has changed the BIOS and even the whole main board. But the issue still cannot be fixed. Its thunderbolt port still cannot find the external display card when the card is plugged in. Is it Hardware or BIOS issue? Anyone can help?

Dell XPS 15 9560 fan noise when charging

$

I noticed a couple of days ago, that the fans take a really long time to turn off after the system returns to Idle (CPU load 0 to 1%).

Usually after I stop playing a game or watching a video, it takes max 2 minutes for the laptop fans to turn off and become completely silent.  Now each time the fans kick in, it takes at least 20 minutes for them to turn off.  This only happens when the laptop is on power (even when at 100% charge).

I didn't make any changes to the system prior to this problem, and was already having the latest BIOS(1.3.3) and driver updates. I already tried changing the System cooling policy to passive when on power but it made no change.

Is this a known problem? Are there any fixes?

PS: I Bought the laptop exactly one month ago!

I can't work in my office because of the embarrassingly high coil whine of my Xps 13 9360. What shoul I do? (Audio inside)

Good afternoon everyone.

I received my Xps 13 9360 last week (bought on april 16), and it came with a tremendous coil whine, especially when using Adobe Premiere Pro or other heavy softwares.

My coworkers blames me for disturbing them, so I can't use my new laptop in my office...

I read that in new motherboards models this issue should be fixed, so I expected to receive one of them, but instead my revision is A00.

What should i do in this case?

Here is a recording of the noise, please listen to it: www.dropbox.com/.../EGF_6605.mp4

XPS 15 9350 will not power on

My system will no longer power on. No power bars from the battery status. The AC Adapter is working and I tried a second adapter and it does not resolve the issue.

Tried disconnecting the battery and holding power button for 30 seconds. The system powers after this procedure but shuts off after 1 second.

The system has latest BIOS and Windows 10.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Greetings & Salutations!

I'm having some problems with my laptop in which the battery icon frequently changes from just the battery to the battery with the AC supply. As a result the monitor keeps flashing from dull to light. I've tried powering down and taking the battery out for about 5 minutes, but the problem persists. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

XPS 13 trackpad not functioning and driving me insane

$

Since the first day after I bought the XPS 13 9360, the trackpad and mouse have been a nightmare.

-The pointer moves on its own and clicks as it likes sometimes.

-The pointer slows down then disappears many times each day.

-The tap to click doesn't work at times.

I tried every solution that I can possibly try given that I use Windows 10 and that I only have access to the drivers that Dell deems suitable for me that do not include any mouse drivers.

What to do? Do I get a refund? I already paid to fix the screen when it fell and broke. I already spent more money than it's worth as I bought it when it first came out. What a nightmare!

I wish I got the X1 Carbon.

Possibly bad "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" driver posted for XPS 15 9550

$

It would appear that the latest "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver and Management Console" driver that was released on May 10th may be defective. What I can say for certain is that with the driver installed I will typically blue screen several times a day. If I roll back to the previously released driver, no more blue screens.

Details:

Problem driver: Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Driver-and-Management_CRRKJ_WIN_15.2.15.1058_A07.EXE
Driver that works: Serial-ATA_Driver_02RN8_WN32_15.2.10.1044_A05.EXE

System affected: Dell XPS 15 9550 with the 1TB Samsung SSD, Service Tag # 235BG72. I have no way of knowing if other configurations may also be affected.

Note: So far the issue really seems like it is with this driver because I have never once been able to bluescreen it yet in my current configuration with the older driver installed. However, if I upgrade to the newer driver then I can pretty much guarantee several blue screens a day. Note too that my drive is bitlocker protected. No idea if this makes any difference, but thought that I would mention it.

Would it be possible for a Dell employee to pass this along to someone who can look into this?

Dell XPS15 9560 charging status LED is blinking orange / white

hello all,

i have a problem with my XPS15 since receiving it. All is well, but sometimes the charging status LED is blinking with the following pattern:

3 orange, 5 white, 3 orange, 3 white

Does anyone knows what it means? I already had a technician who visited and replaced the motherboard and battery, but the problem is still here.

On top of that, my idle temp is not dropping under 45 celsius, and CPU under load goes over 90 celsius. I'm pretty sure that is not normal, and i believe the technician who replaced the motherboard did a poor job repasting the CPU and GPU with thermal compound.

Can you please share what are your temperatures for this model (9560 i7 7700HQ) ?

Dell Inspiron 7359 Dies after 12 months and 3 weeks

Hadn't used Dell products before. One year and 3 weeks to the day after I received my 7359 I turn on and "no bootable drives found".  I run the internal diagnostics and it passes all tests including hard drive test. I ring Dell in Australia where I purchased the laptop and they cannot help as I am currently living in Thailand. I ring Dell Thailand and they advise that it must be a hard drive failure but I have no confidence in that advice as their English is not so good and they can't explain how the hard drive can pass the internal diagnostics and still be defective. They advise they will send me a quite for a new hard drive (SSD 250 GB), which I am currently awaiting. To say I am not happy would be an understatement. 3 weeks out of warranty and the PC dies. Can anyone offer any advice or ideas about how I should or could now proceed? Thanks

Windows 10 Face Recognition failure Alienware 15 R3

$

Just wondering if there is a fix for the "Unable to start camera" issue that the recent big Win10 upgrade has brought on. I liked the facial recognition for login but that has gone. I have searched the web for solutions and found several but none has worked so far. To add insult to injury I could start the camera from the "Camera" section in the windows menu until I updated the driver. Now when I try to start it, it says another app is using it and must be shut down first but no other app is using it as far as I know.

I read the story about how Microsoft came to mess it up but so far the only mention of Microsoft fixing it is maybe in their next major upgrade late this year. Not very impressive consider the estimates of millions of users losing access to their webcams.
