What's the difference between Dell Home UEFI BIOS and Dell Business UEFI BIOS?

I can't find any article that explains the difference between the two BIOS designs. What I'm thinking is that Home UEFI BIOS's target are Notebook PCs designed for regular users, while the Business UEFI BIOS are for PCs designed for professionals/business people.

Inspiron not turning on

Hello,

I have a Dell inspiron 1545 laptop. I used it last night, and then again this morning with no problems, and this evening it will not turn on. The charging adapter has a blue light indicating that it is plugged into the wall, and it stays lit even after I connect the computer. No lights come on in the computer to indicate that it is charging. I googled and have done the release of power (removed the battery, held the power button for 60 seconds, plugged it in without the battery and again with the battery) a few times but nothing has changed. There are no fans or any sounds indicating it's even trying to start up, however, a few times I am positive the screen has very quickly flashed when I push the power. I don't have another charger to try, but I have switched outlets and it remained the same. Any suggestions on things I could try, or is it just somehow dead?

Thanks

i just bought a new dell xps 9350. after received it there was written 'recertified' near the laptop serial number on the shipment box. i found in dell records that this computer was sold on December 2015.  the retailer claims that the computer never used by the end user. is there really any way to know if it was used before? how can i know why this computer was brought back to dell for re-certifying?

Laptop 'Plugged in, not charging' problem

Hi I have recently started having trouble with my laptop being plugged in but not charging most of the time. I receive an alert when I start up the laptop saying that the Ac Power Adapter Wattage cannot be determined, however the charger used to (and still on occasions) work fine, but slowly this has seemed to start happening more and more frequently over time. Usually however after I have the computer plugged in for a while it will start randomly charging, but sometimes this can happen in minutes sometimes it can take several hours. I have tried using the laptop without the battery and the same thing happens so I know it is not that. Is there a way I can find out what is causing the problem? I believe it is most likely wither the adapter or the power jack but I am not sure to to tell which one.

Laptop is a Dell Latitude E5410 if that is needed.

Hi All,

I am unable to start my laptop.

It starts on AC adapter without battery, but if I put the battery, it just blinks the lights on the right after power button is pressed and goes off.

I purchased a new battery but in vain. Any help on this is much appreciated.

POWER CORD NOT CHARGING BATTERY

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5559. Brand new. Purchased from an authorised Dell reseller.

The battery is completely drained and cannot charge. It is plugged in with the power cord and works but the second the power cord comes out the battery dies. When I restart I get ...

Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.

I have seen other solutions recommending updating the BIOS driver to fix the problem. The catch is TO UPDATE THE BIOS DRIVER I NEED AT LEAST 10% BATTERY POWER which I obviously don't have because I cannot charge the battery.

Can someone please help?

Thanks.

E5470 "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued"

I hope someone can help, I'm pulling my hair out over this.

I have 16 new latitude E5470 laptops in a classroom that intermittently freeze and hang up, and there are a lot of "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued", Source iaStorA, Event ID 129 events in the system event log.
They all have the same Windows 7 SP1 64bit image.
It's random and intermittent.
They were originally configured with the BIOS SATA config set to RAID; I changed it to AHCI but that didn't help.
I've run Dell System Detect so they all have the most recent drivers and BIOS updates from Dell.
I've set the PCI Express Link State Power Management to "OFF".
I've seen the verified solution in this thread: en.community.dell.com/.../19658497, but those registry entries are not present in these laptops.
I've disabled the Intel SpeedStep in the BIOS

It's really annoying because I can make a change that I hope will help, and they seem to work fine when I check them during the day, but by the next morning most of them have frozen again.

Thanks in advance for any help

Pre-Sales Question - Dell XPS Laptops Dedicated Graphics

Hello,

I'm looking at buying one of the Dell XPS Laptops with Dedicated Nvidia Graphics.

Can I ask if the Intel Graphics are automatically disabled in Hardware or does this use the Optimus Technology via the Nvidia Control Panel to choose which Graphics card to use?

I asked the Pre-Sales chat and was told the intel graphics were disabled, but I looked at the user manual and it says Optimus is used.

Could you confirm which is the case?

Thanks

Dell lattitude Screen

I do not know enough about pc. I have a dell E6420 laptop. My neice was trying to load adobe reader. She came and told me the screen was flickering and the color was blue and pink art work. I restarted it and remove from the download folder adobe.

The screen is now pink, until you enter the password, then it becomes blue and pink swirl artwork.

I perform SFC scannow, CHKDSK on the command line, and perform tests by pressing F12; in all cases no defect was found. I also perform diagnostic test in safe mood.

i think she may have dropped and did not tell me.[note]

I plugged an external monitor and the display is okay. Question: do I have a driver problem or defective screen, board or cable. Thank you for any help.

Registered mail - adress?

Hi all,

I'm having a terrible, very frustrating experience with my local Dell support team, and I would like to be heard by someone inside Dell who could maybe do something about it.

I'd like to send a registered mail, but don't know to whom or to what adress, does someone know?

Thanks.

Here's the content of the mail I'd like to send :

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to complain about the worst customer experience I have ever had, and this with your so-called "premium service" I was supposed to get when buying a 1800euro laptop.

My name is XXX. I am a 2X XXXX computer science graduate. I had the XPS 13 9550 for a year and decided to give it to my father to get the 15" version since my laptop is my work tool and my eyes were getting tired too fast with the smaller 13" screen. I also had to leave XXXX to go to Quebec. My mistake was to order before leaving.

Here is the timeline:

26/03 - order is placed at my home in France for a XPS 9560, 1800 euros paid
01/04 - I arrive in Montreal
03/04 - laptop arrives in XXXX
(14/04 - my uncle, a pilot who we learn is about to do the XXX Montreal route accepts to carry the laptop with him in the cabin to avoid us the costly postal fees)
24/04 - laptop is switched on, my father simply creates an account for me in order for it to go through customs as a used laptop. Immediately switched off.
28/04 - my uncle arrives in Montreal
28/04 - evening in Montreal, I switch it on, log, install a few of my favorite software (Spotify, Dropbox, Steam), perform a Dell update as requested, and I get the windows blue screen.

In my first 5 minutes of use the laptop failed. It has been unrecoverable ever since. Brief description of the failure: it won't get past the Dell logo at startup, anything else will result in failure either from Windows or the bootable devices. I have spent a lot of time trying to fix it. Here's the timeline from then:

29/04 - try to boot with Ubuntu USB keys, with Window 10 keys, nothing works, I get error messages. Run the BIOS tests, which return successful.
30/04 - try to boot the same keys with different BIOS settings
01/04 - I call support - uncomprehension on both sides, they tell me to call the French support team. By now the French support is closed, so I have to wait till the morning
02/04 - French support team tells me that they can't do anything, it needs to be taken care of by the Canadian team. Which I call and who tells me that I need to register my adress change - a move that is going to take a week to get through to them before they can take care of me.
03/04 - Registered my adress change on the website, called again to beg for a quick treatment since it was critical for me to have a laptop for work

By now the 30 first days of "use" are passed, so the simple exchange of laptop is not in order and I have to send it to a repair center. But I am unaware of this at this point.

05/04 - Dell acknowledges the change of adress. I am now being taken care of.
10/04 - Dell technician comes home, I have to take a day off since I can't know when he's going to be there. He changes the SSD, but it doesn't work.
11/04 - day after, I call Dell, for the 9th time in 10 days. I am told that I will need to send by laptop to a repair center since the 30 days have elapsed
15/04 - send the computer to the repair center
22/04 - I get a mail saying the part needed for the repair is missing and it will take a few weeks to get it

This has truly been a painful experience. I do not know who to turn to as support dismisses my calls to be heard by their supervisors and otherwise either send me in a loop through their services or simply won't do anything. At this point I would like to formally ask either for a refund or for a better treatment (new laptop as soon as possible, at least).

Regards,

Theo

Which CPU Fans can be used with the Latitude E6430 ?

Hi.

I need to do a CPU fan replacement on an E6430.

What other CPU fans will work with the E6430 other than the one that specifically came with it?

The reason I'm asking is that I need to get one IMMEDIATELY, and all of the ones I'm finding will take too long to get. So, I'm wondering if it's possible to use one from a different model of laptop.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.   :-)

XPS 13 9350 Not Turning On - Flea Power?

$

Hey Community -

Today, my laptop wasn't booting up at all. I tried with AC connected and no AC connected. I am on a Dell XPS 13 9350, I've had it only around 8 months.

When I press the power button, the white LED on the power button would light up for maybe 5-8 seconds and then shut off. I would never see the "DELL" boot logo or anything. It never started up. The battery was 100% charged (I confirmed with the battery indicator button on the side of the laptop). I used the laptop last night with no problems, it was fully charged, shut it down like regular...and then this happened this morning.

I did some reading and heard that it could be "Flea Power." From my understanding, its static electricity that is caught in the computer?

I didn't have the screwdrivers needed to get the back open, nor do I have experience taking out battery, etc. So I took it to a PC Repair store, and he opened it up, disconnected the Battery, BIOS Battery, took out the SSD, grounded the computer, and held the Power button down for 30 seconds and let the Computer sit for 10 mins. This was to "drain the power." We tried to boot it up after that without the SSD, and it didn't work. We popped the SSD in and then booted and it booted up!! PHEW!

He said this is probably going to keep happening. Why is this happening? I paid $1400 for this machine and its less than a year old. I got off the phone with Dell tech support and since the PC boots now, they aren't willing to help. My warranty is only good until July of this year. I want to make sure this gets fixed while under warranty. I've had multiple issues with this machine since I got it - USB Type C issue, laptop not going to sleep issue, and now this. The other issues I just found workarounds and small tweaks online since I never wanted to send it in for a few weeks. But this issue I'm concerned about. I don't want to fry the motherboard.

Can someone please help me?

CPU usage goes up when connecting USB device to Dell Latitude E6530

Hi!

I have a Latitude E6530 running Windows 7 with updated with all drivers just a few days ago and this problem still persists:

When I connect a USB device to any of the super speed ports, the CPU usage goes up. Looking in the task manager, I can see that the items Interrupts and System are both consuming ~10 CPU. As this is a multi core machine, this essentially means that 100% of 2 threads are completely blocked.

This problem started a few years back when I did a complete driver update (I had a replacement BT card that didn't work and I thought that updating the drivers would help, unfortunately the BT card was broken and the update gave me broken USB drivers instead :(

If I hibernate the computer, the problem goes away after it wakes up again, but as soon as I connect a USB device to any of the USB3 ports, the problem comes back.

Any thoughts on what this is and what I can do to fix it?

Best regards,

Stefan Burstrom
