Tried to replace Dell Inspiron N4110 hard drive, now computer doesn't boot

Title says it all... The computer had successfully booted, but while I was moving my data to the new drive (booted via USB stick), it just shut off.

Now, upon trying to boot, I'll see several of the indicators in the top-right turn on, but then the system will abruptly turn off before anything shows up on the screen. I have tried holding the power button for 10 seconds, and it still doesn't work.

There are no beeps, but if I remove the RAM, then I get two beeps, so I don't think it's the motherboard (at least, I hope not...). I've triple-checked all the ribbons and connections, and they're all secure.

This really ***... :O

I just noticed that the track pad on my Dell XPS 15 9560 has a noticeable height difference between left and right side. Could this be start of a swollen battery?

I use the laptop for work every day and have not noticed this before.

Edit:

Noticed the top edge on the right side is also has a noticeable edge now. But still not as bad as the pictures i have seen online.

Need earlier bios version for Latitude E4310

I am trying to update the BIOS on my Latitude E4310 from version 04.   The only BIOS file listed on the downloads page is version 14.  But when I try to install that file, I get an error message that I must install version 07 first.  How do I find earlier BIOS versions for this laptop?  Obviously I want to get the BIOS to a newer version than 04.

Dell xps 13 9360 issues

Hi there,

I've recently purchased a dell xps 13 9360

I have had a few issues such as screen flicker every so often, maybe twice a day, however it doesn't affect me too much.

There was also slight coil whine, especially when using skype and intensive task, however I managed to remove that by turning off turbo boost in bios.

Just then the blue screen "your pc has run into a problem and needs to restart" and a very loud noise occured.  I have attached the event log for when this occured, not sure if it helps.

I've only had the laptop for just less than a month and I really need it now so I can't and don't plan on returning it. Just wondering if anyone could suggest to me what to do, i.e. could I send it for maintenance in a few weeks time and they could thoroughly test the system?

Dell Laptop Drinks Coffee

Actually the maltese dog wanted affection, jumped up on desk knocking a fresh cup of delicious coffee (no sugar, no creamer, just black coffee) over into the laptop.

Laptop Inspiron 17-5000.

The laptop boots fine but the keyboard and mouse seem lazy.   BUT, when it comes up to the login screen, I hit the first letter of the password and the first letter goes repeatedly across the box for the password.

Example: b turns into bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb...

The unit was thoroughly dried out.    Should I take it apart, I do know how, and clean it with alcohol?   Or does expert experience show that it is a lost cause?   I have recovered the data on the hard drive.  No problem there.

Or should I re-install the O/S?  Which I should try before trashing.

Thanks,  Darryl

E7450 no kb or touchpad when in docking station

This just started today, I have an E7450 that disables the embedded keyboard and mouse when in the docking station.

The only change is that the old docking station stopped working and i put a different one on the desk and plugged it all in.  Currently the station only has KB, Mouse, power and DVI cables in it.  I'd rather just use the keyboard on the laptop though.

I take it out of the docking station, touchpad and KB work fine, i put it on, touchpad and KB are disabled.

I opened the touchpad settings and they all appear to be correct (touchpad is set to on (|) but does not respond when touched. )

Is there somewhere in windows that might have a setting to disable KB and TP when in docking station?  I did both an internet search and a search of the laptop forums here and found nothing.

Inspiron 15-7559, hinge issue

Dear Dell,

If we all are having the same issue of the hinges (mostly left) of a particular laptop model than how does it mean we are using it the wrong way. Nearly all of us had owned a laptop before and we are not children. So don't give us any "you are using it wrong" *** and admit your fault.

Thank you,

E7270 Windows 10 Black screen, power light issue, other user.

I work in a corporate environment and we order hundreds of machines from Dell.
We ordered the E7270 last year and loaded Windows 10 PRO on them and have had nothing but problems.
I opened a case with Microsoft and contacted Intel, but they said to contact Dell. We only have hardware support, not software support.
Issue at hand is that we have version 1607 Build 14939.1198, I know this is not the latest, but we can not upgrade to the latest until testing is done. Looking over the other versions , I don't see anything that would be related to resolving my issue.
The machines are on a domain, and the end user logs onto the computer and it should populate the name and log in. Every few days it comes up with Other User and spins, and can spin for hours. Unless they click CTRl/AL/DEL and it will log in.
Microsoft tells me that that they see a 20 seconds delay on a file that was traced back to Intel.Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Utility. This is has to do with handling the thermal on the CPU, fan etc. They can replicate this only when they shut down, Windows 10 says it is shutting down, but the power light stays on for 2 minutes and the screen is black. Then when they boot up they have the same issue. We also have the issue on E5250 models as well. At first, yes we had the motherboard replaced on one of the models but the issue came back so it is not hardware. I'm thinking this Intel software is the culprit, but since it is packaged by Dell, Intel won't help me.

So for months, I have all these machines that I can not deploy and orders are hold until we get it resolved.

I personally have a Dell E7270 with Windows from the factory. I use to have an issue where the machine wanted to go to sleep , the screen would go black, and I could not wake it up. I see other people report that issue with other models.

Boot to usb

Dell Inspiron 15-5578: So far am quite happy with my choice of this laptop. However; some day I may wish to duel boot to Linux mint. I am unable to boot to USB; even a Windows 10 iso. I hesitate to disable secure boot because I read where another poster couldn't boot to W10 after diealeing and re-enabling. So can anyone here on the forum advise me on the correct procedure to enable a USB boot.

Another ? unrelated. Can I dispose of all these extra partitions; re-install W10 and go from there? I have my own ways (Acronis True Image) of restoring the system.

XPS 14 takes 6 minutes from power on to boot screen

I have an XPS 14 with 8gb memory and an Intel i7-3517U @ 1.90Ghz 2.40Ghz processor running W10 64bit fully patched and updated ( but not to creators edition ). It has a 250Gb drive which has 50Gb free.

From pressing the power on button it takes 6 minutes to reach the boot screen then a further 2 minutes to reach the login prompt.

After pressing the power button the keyboard lights up and the screen is dark grey with a white underline cursor in the top left hand corner. It stays like this for the 6 minutes before the Dell logo appears.

It originally had W7 which I upgraded to W10.

Why is there such a long delay ?

Dell 7370 Black Screen, no BIOS

$

I bought a Dell 7370, after installing Windows, Bios Update and driver (latest was graphic drivers) the laptop went into black screen. So when Iam starting it only power LED, charging LED and Keyboard light is working and I can here some coil whine.

I chatted with Dell Support an das long I have no working Service Tag they cannot help me with physical Support.

I already tried some things, like almost total disassembling the notebook.

Further I tried forced ePSA and the bios recovery. In both cases the display doesnt show anything. In case of the bios recovery with USB Stick (Formated with FAT32 and containing the renamed Bios file) I can see that the USB is working (Usb led is lighting). With a normal start up its not lighting. But I dont know what to press to maybe start the recovery, maybe someone can tell me how to trigger the recovery without seeing anything on the display.

The only thing that works i tried today is starting with pressing „D“, so in this case the Display works fine and shows the colors.

Maybe somebody has an idea what I could try here or can help me with the Bios recovery.

P.S.

I bought the Notebook in Germany for a cheap price and it was working well at the beginning (it has an english keyboard). Inside the Notebook I can read a lot of stickers with rev. 0.1 and (08.2015) and the Bios at the beginning was 99.1.4. And under the keyboard is says Latitude E7370 instead of Latitude 7370. Could it be that this is some pre model or something ? In Germany they tried out to find the Service tag with the serial numbers from the charging cable and the battery, but they said these parts were bought seperately. It just seems theres something weird about the notebook…

XPS15 9550 crash when connecting TB16 dock after updating bios to 1.2.25

$

Hi,

I had my setup working perfectly on Arch Linux before updating my bios. The dock could be plugged and unplogged at will without crashing. After updating to the latest bios (To get the Intel ME vulnerability patch) it doesn't work anymore.

Connected on the dock:

One 1080P screen (HDMI)

Another 1080P screen (Display port)

USB mouse and keyboard

Ethernet cable

3.5mm jack to sound system

Setup that worked

Bios: 1.2.18

Kernel: 4.10.6-1-ARCH

Setup that crashes

Bios: 1.2.25

Kernel: 4.10.6-1-ARCH

Kernel: 4.10.13-1-ARCH

Expected behavior

Connecting the dock when the laptop is powered works.

Connecting the dock when the laptop is turned off and booted works

Actual behavior

Connecting the dock when the laptop is powered crashes the system

Connecting the dock when the laptop is truned off works, but mouse and keyboard don't work.

Anyone has pointers on how I could resolve this issue?

Thank you very much.
