Hi,

I purchased a Dell Laptop Inspiron 14R 5421 (Windows 8) in 2013. I used it for 4  years without any issue only until last month i had a problem of the laptop not starting (only DELL logo appearing). I ran the F12 diagnostics & it found a problem in Hard ware. I took it to a local service center (not authorised) in India & they formatted the hard drive. Post which, they installed a temporary windows 8 software & asked me NOT TO UPDATE. Now my laptop does not have the normal factory configuration & i have lost all dell diagnostics support & windows apps which were factory installed. I need to install a clean version of Windows 7 or 8. Can anyone guide me how to do this? I understand that the product key is encrypted by Dell in BIOS for all machines after 2012 or something.

It has following no. printed on the sticker,

DP/N 04YRJH

• Is it original?
• Its wear level is 0.8% in 1 week. Is it normal?
• Is Sanyo is original Dell battery manufacturer?

I hope someone will answer as early as possible.

Hello,

I bought an xps 15 9560 ( used one ) , and i am surprised that checking system property its showing ASUS instead of DELL . But when check dxdiag command output it show the right manufacturer DELL and the right model XPS 9560 , also when i connect to dell support website and try "Detect product" option it shows the right model with the right service Tag and Express service code .

Also after the first update i did for windows , now windows showing that it will expire end of Month.

Kindly have a look at the belox screen shot.

your help is appreciated

I have so far:

1. I have attempted to install Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS CD on the Inspiron 5565 but freezes after a minute or so.
2. validated the md5 hash of the contents of the CD matches that of the Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS iso image and that matches themd5 hash on the official Ubuntu site for the iso. See help.ubuntu.com/.../HowToMD5SUM and help.ubuntu.com/.../UbuntuHashes
3. Tried running ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS from the CD (i.e. live, but not installed on local disk) successfully on another computer (PC).
4. Tried running ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS from the CD (i.e. live, but not installed on local disk) UNsuccessfully on the Inspiron 5565. Still freezing on load sequence after 1 minute or so (progress bar stops as well)
5. Tried to run the 'validate disk' function from the boot menu of the Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS and seemed to progress for 5 mins or so then froze up also.
6. I noticed the following error message very briefly display just before loading the progress screen: [   6.480915] amdgpu 0000:00:01.0: SMC Failed to send Message.

Maybe, just maybe this is an error highlighting a root cause of the installation freezing up.

I'll do some searching around in the meantime and see if I can find anything around updating amd gpu firmware for example in the meantime as well as this error in particular.

Hello ! I need help for my Dell Laptop.

When I want to use the laptop the laptop doesn't boot and stuck at the DELL LOGO. I have done several attempt to fix this

1.Enter BIOS by pressing F2. But the screen only showed me "Preparing to Enter Setup"

2.Enter Boot Menu to run Dell Diagnostics by pressing F12. But the screen onlu showed me "Preparing for one time boot menu"

3.Press FN key to enter Dell ePSA, but the screen obly showed me "Diagnostic boot selected"

Please someone help me, because I need this laptop for my work.

Recently our XPS 18 tablet will not recognize the bluetooth keyboard/mouse, USB keyboard/mouse, or onscreen versions either. It will not read a USB attached DVD reader with system restore disk. Even booting to diagnostics will not accept input from any device.

Hi everyone,

I recently acquired a Latitude 7275, everything was working fine, but when I updated to BIOS XPS_9250_Latitude_7275_1.1.29 released on the 9/5/17 it broke my TPM 2.0 implementation.

I had suspended Bitlocker before the update but on reboot, it kept asking me for the Bitlocker recovery key, I  then had to disable Bitlocker completely.

After that i could not enable it back again, it kept saying "internal error", I was using DellTpm2.0_Fw1.3.2.8_V1_64

I then noticed that the latest BIOS was removed from the support page.

I reset windows 10 to no avail. I then decided to downgrade the TPM, I read this page  http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/enterprise-client/w/wiki/11850.how-to-change-tpm-modes-1-2-2-0 checked the Manufacturer ID and it is the same.

I updated the TPM to DellTpm1.2_Fw5.81.2.1_V3_64, and as soon I rebooted the system I was able to enable the 1.2 TPM and enable Bitlocker.

I then decided to suspend the Bitlocker and update back to TPM 2.0, but on reboot it sows and error: "Failure due to FW update policy"

I then downgrade to BIOS XPS_9250_Latitude_7275_1.1.27 and tried the TPM upgrade again, but still no luck.

Can someone shed some light on the issue please, I am at a loss.

Am I missing anything using TPM 1.2 or will it be incompatible with future BIOS versions?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hello Every one, I just received my second Dell Xps 15 9560 after returning a previous model for various quality control issues, i.e. miss aligned finger print scanner, bloated battery, the screen not shutting properly, and one side of the screen being consistently dimmer than the other. With my second one, which I just received, now has the same issues with the finger print scanner being misaligned, but now with the power button also being misaligned both with a significant slope. My new one does shut properly without a gap in between the screen and the base of the chassis when closed, but now I have been experiencing the notorious coil whine... off the charger and solely on battery I have experienced coil whine along with being on power with the charger and this is just annoying. I have also been experiencing my screen blacking out randomly for a millisecond and then returning to normal. The fact that this is the second one I have received but still has the same problems if not more is just flat out outrageous. The fact that this is a $2000+ laptop the way mine is specked ( 32gb ram, 1tb ssd, 4k display) is not okay. There is obviously a problem with quality control which should not be present with such a laptop that is supposed to be for intensive use. Don't get me wrong this is a great product, but these small issues just take away from the experience immensely. If there is any way to get all this fixed it be great. Also is there any way to change my warranty to an at-home service instead of the mail in service? And also has there been any acknowledgement with any of these issues on the dell XPS 15?

After the computer started to slow down following a Windows update, I attempted to date it back to previous update (which was successful), but when starting computer, network adapters would not work. Got the message that The dependency service or group failed to start. Tried downloading new drives, even found the original resource DVD, but was unable to correct the problem. After all kinds of different attempts to follow advise on different forums etc, I decided to re-install WINDOWS from original DVD. All went according to program until the final completion of install, the I got the message that windows could not be installed on the current hardware. I think I experienced this a few years ago and had to take it to a Computer Repair PLace to get it fixed.

Any suggestions?

I have an Inspiron 15 that has had power issues since we purchased it 2 years ago.. It was purchased as a refurbished machine... The battery shows "fully charged" the battery utility in the boot menu shows the battery at only 65%, so I figured it was time to replace the battery. Here's where it gets weird, The service tag, express service code, and the system detect all reflect an inspiron 15 3542, while the inner model label and, in fact, the actual parts (processor, memory, touch screen etc) say that the laptop is a 3878..  Is this possible? the batteries do differ in both wattage and volts also number of cells... the original battery is type XCMRD, .. i need to get a new battery, I need it to be affordable, so its going to have to be purchased after market, And I'm a bit confused as to which to buy.

I've just upgraded my XPS 9550's BIOS to 1.2.25.

Imagine my surprise when after the reboot I've received a notification error explaining my power adapter was undersized and I needed to consider switching to a proper one. The thing is that I've been using the original power adapter shipped with my XPS and never used any other one!

Is this a bug in the new BIOS or actually the power requirements of XPS 9550 have suddenly increased?

So I got the TB16 to use with my Windows 10 Precision 7510. I've had issues with the USB devices dropping out randomly but I seem to have got that under control (for now). I'm having another issue of sorts. Updated the BIOS then went into the BIOS changed restart/shutdown to "thorough" and checked "thunderbolt adapter boot support" and "thunderbolt adapter pre boot modules" as I wanted to boot from a USB DVD drive that was connected to the TB16. But when I tried to boot the laptop got stuck on the Dell logo and wouldn't go into POST. I tried diagnostic boot and got the same result. Couldn't get far enough to press F2 or F12. When I disconnected the TB16 and powered on the laptop it booted up fine. I could then connect the TB16 and it would work fine. But if I tried to restart with the TB16 connected I had the same issue. I eventually unchecked "thunderbolt adapter boot support" and "thunderbolt adapter pre boot modules" just so I could restart without having to disconnect the TB16 (I don't know which of the two options is causing the booting issue though). I can get by without booting from the TB16 but I got it partly for that reason so would to get it working if I can. Any ideas?

I have an Inspiron 1545 but it can not detect the camera. how do I get the camera to work? do I have to re-instal? do I have to have a disk? at first I had the photo booth app installed but since I rebooted it, the app is not on my laptop anymore.

As stated in the title, the buttons do not work for a while after pressing a key on my keyboard, however i can still move the cursor and scroll. I tried youtube videos and they said i have to go to additional mouse settings in mouse and touch pad (Windows 10), after that, i couldn't go into device settings to fix the problem because it isn't there at all.

I have a brand new Inspiron 7579, I bought it two days ago. I have not downloaded/added anything. I tried to use tent mode this morning to stream a video, but the screen does not rotate so the video is upside down. How do I fix this?

First of all really thankful for Dell Community for  my last query,  Most satisfactory technical support. we (sloxsoft) looking forwards for further assistant. in our office we had more 200 desktop and 100 laptom of Dell. They are working properly but on timely basis we need to boost the performance of system.

First off Dell really needs a computer general room since my question doesn't really have a room to ask. . I have this laptop Dell Inspiron 3162 model . It comes with 32gb eMMC drive . What's the point in having a recovery partition if it doesn't serve its purpose ? And When one does a factory reset it bring the computer back to windows 10 first ever edition, the problem with this is every time one does such one has to update windows to the latest version of 10 which afterwards one doesn't have much space left on the drive 2 or 3 gb .... Why instead doesn't Dell provide the latest edition of 10 for the recovery option, this way one can have the latest without having to update it with the original version and save a lot of space on the hard drive ...

 I have a dell e6230 with new install of windows 7 professional 64x on it. I want to install the fingerprint reader, but i was unable to install Control Vault and biometric device which i get from Dell Support site . And also Dell Data Protection manager, i dont know which one to install first. Now I have though 2 unknown devices in device manager. Can someone please help.
