Dell XPS13 9360 Synaptics VFS7552 Touch Fingerprint Sensor issue

Hi everyone,

Windows 10 updated itself to the Creators Update this week and I notice that my Fingerprint Senor will not work after sleep mode.

When I check the Device Manager it disappeared from device manager and if I choose the show hidden device it says the Synaptics VFS7552 Touch Fingerprint Sensor is disconnected.

I have updated the latest driver from Dell webpage and problem is persists. The only way to "fix" it is to reboot the Laptop and the Fingerprint Sensor will work but when it goes to sleep it will disconnect itself again.

Do anyone know how to fix this issue?

Thanks.

Regards,

Derek Tang

Dell, where did this TB16 come from?

I happened to look out on my front entrance way and saw a package laying there. I brought it in and noticed it was from Dell. Well I had not ordered anything from Dell. I opened the box and saw it was a TB16. I do not know why I was sent this but here is my guess. I had ordered a TB15 over a year ago. After all the issues I had with it as well as others have had with it, I returned it before the 30 day return deadline. Now unannounced and over a year later, this TB16 shows up. Is Dell sending these out to people who returned the TB15's?

I don't know if I want it. People are still having issues even with this newer version. Whether this dock or any dock will work with the XPS 15 9550 is another question. It seems that even with the latest firmware/drivers installed, people are still having problems with the new version. I have my eye on another dock (Plugable Thunderbolt 3 Dock). It does not have all the bells and whistles of the TB16 but it has enough for me. Its release has been delayed for over a year. They won't release it until they know it works which is what Dell should have done.

So Dell what is going on here?

Thanks,

  JohnD

Rolling back to Windows 8.1

I had upgraded to the Windows 10 when it cam out. I'm having issues now and want to go back to the 8.1. I have searched the Microsoft support and have found nothing. The support does say I can't rollback after 30 days. Is there an option when I can re-install the Windows 8.1

Hyper-V Discrete Device Assignment support for Precision 7xxx laptop?

I recently received my precision 7720 laptop, and everything work like a charm except the DDA support for Hyper-V is not available.

Hyper-v Discrete Device Assignment support, which is to say exposing ACS(Access control service) control from BIOS to OS so that users can assign PCI-E device to Hyper-V Virtual Machines, assign GPU to VM for CUDA computation, in my case.

Does dell have plan to support Hyper-V DDA for precision 7xxx laptop? Any information would be helpful.

XPS 15 (9550) - Nothing but problems

Dear Dell,

I have to say, I'm disappointed. I wished my Dell XPS 15 (9550) worked better. It's a powerful computer, but it feels like I'm just having problems, after problems, after problems...

I bought the computer at the start of 2016, just over a year ago, for over $2,500 (23.000 SEK). Since then I've had the "coil whine" problem, and the "hot bag" problem for several months. The computer would wake up by itself in my bag and get so hot that I couldn't even touch it! I've had the motherboard replaced TWICE.

I travel constantly and I work on my computer at least 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. My livelihood depends on it, and it's probably the most important thing that I own. Now, I'm half way across the world in Tokyo and I have problems again. This causes so much stress. Every day I think to myself, will my laptop stop working today.

When I charge my laptop the trackpad stops working. The battery swells and pushes against the trackpad (thanks to the reddit community for point this out). So, I called my Dell support back home and they said they can't do anything since I'm abroad. They gave me a local number to call. I call it and of course no one speaks English.

Honestly, it's crazy that a product that costs over $2,500 USD can't seem to offer a lifespan of more than a year. A one year warranty feels RIDICULOUS considering the amount of problems I've had. Plus, it seems like getting support internationally is out of the question.

I've used PCs my entire life, but honestly I'm considering changing to a different "brand" that seems to be able to offer high build quality and, if nothing else, offer support that's available worldwide. I just want a tool that works and gets the job done.

Honestly, what should I do? Please tell me. I'm traveling to a new country in 2 weeks.

PS: I have also emailed my local Dell support this same message and asked for further assistance.

Dell XPS 9560 Massive CPU Speed Drops

When playing games, namely company of heroes, the CPU speed on my Dell XPS 9560 drops as low as 0.8 GHz. I've done some research and used XTU to undervolt the CPU a little, this improved thermals. However from my testing, as seen in the image, it doesnt seem to be a thermal issue. This is making games unplayable and is very annoying/disturbing.

Dell Vostro 5468 wont detect SSD in spare HDD bay

Hi there,

My Vostro 14 5468 has a empty bay for a 2.5" HDD drive, I've tried multiple SSD's and the OS just won't detect that anything is connected? If I plug in a standard HDD it shows up without any issues.

Am I missing something? Is this slot really just limited to traditional HDD's?

Thank you

Latitude E7470 with Windows 7 x64 - BSOD

We are deploying Latitude E7470's via KACE (2000) deployment appliance.  As such it is using the Driver Feed, which grabs the latest Dell CAB for these units.

Every single unit, suffers from BSOD - specifying NTOKERNEL as the root cause.

It occurs in the following pattern:

1) User logs in past windows - BSOD immediately.

2) User wakes Laptop from Sleep - BSOD.

It is not an image, as we use this same 64bit image on multiple machine of different hardware.  Anyone seeing similar issues?

Locked Unit Blue Screen Error

Hello,

Totally new here but have had an Inspiron 3000 for about 15 months.  So had no problem at all until about 4 days ago, when the unit wouldn't turn on.  Instead there is a blue error screen with the message 'Your PC needs to be repaired.  A required device isn't connected or can be accessed. Error code Oxc000000f.  You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media.  If you don't have any media (which I don't) contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer'.  I tried contacting Dell (I'm in the UK) but to no avail.  No answer to the telephone number and I've emailed a couple of times but no response.  It looks like I'll have to write the unit off and buy a replacement unit, given it's not possible to get in touch with Dell, but I thought I'd post first here in the hope of a fix.

I tried to reset to factory settings but F8 just took me to some sort of test environment.  Now nothing gets past the blue screen it would seem.

Thanks

Inspiron 11 - 3168 & Win7 Pro

$

Recently acquired a 3168 w 4GB memory and 500GB HD.  It came loaded with Win10 but I really need to load Win7 Pro since the business application I'll be using on this unit does not yet support Win10.

I have a bootable USB with Win7 Pro Setup and an available license key, so I have tried to use that to install Win7 Pro on this unit.

Here's the current issue:  The USB boots fine, and I can select 'Install Now', however the setup stops and asks for driver(s) not found.  It doesn't indicate which specific driver(s), it just gives the option to browse other media/locations for these so called missing drivers.  The browse option shows the bootable USB and the 500GB HD so I know that setup found the correct drivers for the HD where I want to install Win7.

If I'm not mistaken, there was a time when these units were shipped with win7??  If so, is there a Win7 Pro image available for download?

I have used DISM and added a ton of Win7 driver packages to the setup image on the USB, but apparently there are still 1 or more drivers not found for this unit and setup won't continue without them.  How do I identify exactly which driver is holding up the install/setup?

Any guidance here would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks in advance for any help here!!

My Dell Inspiron 3437 ( Core i5, 4th Gen) screen suddenly stopped work couple of days ago, now it just worked for external monitor. What I done for the issue ( I did all works by an external monitor)

1. Taking a Diagnostics for all hardware no problem.

2. Using function key but no help.

3. Flashing new bios ( A10), the computer display worked!  but the screen did not display again when I restarted the computer.

4. I tried re-flash bios, but the bios program won't let me to flash same bios version.

5. I tested the screen on another laptop, it worked perfect.

So I guessed the computer BIOS chip corrupt.

Anybody can help?

[XPS 9360 BIOS regression] Battery drain in non connected standby since BIOS 1.2.3

$

I've found a fully and very easily reproductible battery drain issue (+2.5W consumption!) when not using "Connected Standby" sleep in windows 10.

Here is the detail :

- First, I don't use "Connected Standby" anymore as I've had many occurrences of the computer not going to sleep when closing the lid in "Connected standby" mode. To disable "Connected Standby", you've to put "CsEnabled" to 0 (instead of 1)  in \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Power.

- I use BatteryBar v3.6.6 to monitor power consumption in realtime (it works really well)

- The problem is the following : on my 9360 QHD+ with backling at 15%, when doing vitually nothing on Windows 10, the power consumption is between 3000 and 4000 mW when I cold start Windows 10. Then, if I close the lid for a few seconds (to put the computer to sleep) and open it up again, the consumption is then between 5500 and 6500 mW. No matter the number of times I re-close/re-open the lid, I then never can have between 3000 and 4000 mW again. The overconsumption is about 2500 mW compared to the normal initial power consumption

- This problem never happened with BIOS 1.0.7, I tried it dozens of time on different units of 9360

- The problem appeared with BIOS 1.2.3 and is now still present in 1.3.2

- The problem is clearly linked to the Thunderbird BIOS update that occured in BIOS 1.2.3. If I disable the Thunderbird port in BIOS 1.3.2, I have no battery drain issue anymore ! (this is the workaround I currently use)

Please, can you check this issue and try to fix the regression in the next BIOS ?

If you need any further detail, I can provide you with as many additional information as you want, even a video showing clearly this major issue.

This issue is critital as you loose a lot of battery life with this permanent 2500 mW overconsumption.

XPS13 Swollen battery

I have a XPS13 that's about 14 months old. Over the last few months the left side of the keyboard (near z key) has been swelling up. The battery life has also dropped significantly; it be barely last 2 hours whereas it used to last 5-7hrs easily.

I checked online but looks like the battery is not covered after 1 year. Seems like other people had similar issues with Dell laptops as well, how did you end up solving this problem?
