Replacing my E6500...

$

I plan to get e replacement for my relatively old and slow Latitude E6500... I plan to get another E model because I like using the docking station feature.  I would like to take the "computer" I have and move it to a more capable model (better processor and more RAM)... what is the easiest way to make it happen? I could move the hard drive if that would work but knowing the hard drive is often the first piece to fail I would prefer to image a new machine with that of the old.  Is that possible?  Is there a Latitude model that would work best?

The backlit keyboard on my Inspiron 13-5378 never turn off on AC power

hi everyone!

When my Inspiron 13-5378 is powered by the AC, the backlit keyboard never turn off but the the laptop is on battery only, it work flawlessly.

I tried to play with the backlit settings in the Dell QuickSet BacklitKB.exe app or with the Dell Mobility app without luck.

I checked in the BIOS and there's no setting i can play with to change this behavior.

Any idea?

"Battery not detected" and "plugged in, not charging"

My battery says "1% plugged in, not charging". I ordered a new battery, installed today got msg saying "battery not detected", i shut it down, took battery out, replaced, restarted (several time), same msg. I visited many forums and read many threads on both of these issues. Apparently both of these issues are common with Dell, but the general consensus of the community is that i need to do a Bios update..So i downloaded the driver for the Bios update and attempted to install is, but got a massage that the adapter AND the battery must both be plugged in, in order to do the update..well..how can i "plug the battery in" when my pc is unable to detect the battery??!!!
So i shut it down for like the 10th time this evening..took battery out and replaced it with the old battery..the one with 1% charge, but at least my pc is able to detect this one. I go back to the Bios update download, attempt to run it and get a msg saying battery must be 10% or higher to run the update **sigh** really frustrated now. I have seen people say its a loose connection and i should tap it near the motherboard...this did nothing. I jiggled adapter cord, nothing, i cleaned the connectors on the both batteries, nothing. I ran a diagnostic test thru dell.com on the battery and it came up as PASSED...lol..seriously?? I ran troubleshooting..nothing found.. I am at my wits end...help???

Inspiron 5755 Unable to access touchpad settings

Hello,

I just recently got an Inspron 5755 to use for school and have tried really hard to adjust scrolling preferences, but to no avail. It's set to the two finger scrolling and it's honestly driving me up the wall. I've tried changing it, but when I go to mouse setting and then select the "Dell Touchpad" tab that's where it all ends. When I click on the image of the touchpad, nothing happens. When I click on the "Click to Change DellTouchpad settings" same things occurs. There will be a blue spinning wheel, but nothing opens. I checked in programs and features and Dell Touchpad is installed. Also, I'm using Windows 8.

I just want to scroll with one finger.

Thanks!

High fan utilization when Running Revit on M3800

Okey, so I have this problem with high fan noise when I'm running Autodesk Revit. No problem running AutoCad, illustrator, photoshop etc, but as soon as I start working in Revit the fan gets up to full speed within a few minutes. When running a Workload analysis with Dell Precision Optimizer the result is that CPU, Disk and Graphics have an average utilization of 0% with extremely short peaks around 50% and a memory average of 50%. If this Workload Analysis is accurate or not I don't know but this is the recurring result.

My Hardware is a "new" Dell Precision M3800 with i7-4712HQ 2.30 GHz, 16 gb RAM (2x8), Quadro K1100M Graphics Card, SSD disk.
I'm running Revit 2017 on Windows 10 64-bit. All drivers has been updated to the newest versions including BIOS update. Hardware Acceleration is turned on in Revit.

Do you have any ideas on what the "problem" could be or if there is a solution or not?
Is the hardware not good enough? Can it be a settings or drivers issue?

Is there something I can do or do I have to buy a new computer?

Thanks in advance!

Touchpad exasperating as to right-click behavior

$

My single-surface touchpad is exasperating and I would never buy this model if I knew... Much of the time, a right-click behaves simply as a left click. For instance, a multiple hits Google search page disappears and becomes simply the one selection I'd intended to "open in new tab" from the customary drop-open submenu, which fails to appear upon right-clicking a hit.

Also, right-clicking a highlighted block of text often simply removes the highlighting instead of providing a drop-open submenu for "copy" or "cut" or the like.

I'm trying to get in the habit of substituting two-finger taps for right clicks, but that choice is unreliable and fails rather often.

Dell ought to be all over this, but improved drivers haven't been offered.  Short of resigning myself to using an external mouse on a table top (not exactly why we wanted a laptop with touchpad in the first place), is there anything I can do to improve this temperamental touchpad's performance?  I've done my best with settings; nothing corrects the performance problem described here.

Windows 10 Bitlocker code required every time after BIOS upgrade on XPS 15 9560

I had a lot of issues with the screen blinking/flickering on/off when removing the laptop from the WD-15 dock and read that the new BIOS upgrade would fix this issue so I went ahead and upgraded the BIOS.

I installed "DellDockingStationFwUp_1.0.0.8_20161220_WD15.exe" and "XPS_9550_1.2.21.exe".

I added Bitlocker protection the first thing I did when I got the laptop about a year ago and it has been working fine.

After this upgrade (with or without) the dock attached I get the Bitlocker code prompt at every start of the laptop.

I can't seem to roll back the FW upgrades as the installer tells me I have a newer version installed...

After reading many posts on the issue, I have performed the following: Replaced Ac power adapter and cord, replaced AC DC power jack plug socket, checked the battery, Performed static discharge, and made sure electrical outlet was working.

The laptop when plugged in (with and without battery) will begin to power up. Led power light turns on, fan comes on, and then the laptop will immediately turn it"s self back off. Screen stays black throughout the process.

Inspiron 3521 Upgrade

I am planning to upgrade my Inspiron 15 3521 laptop, and I am planning to do these:

  1. Change HDD to Crucial MX525 SSD
  2. Upgrade RAM to Crucial 16GB DDR3L-1600
  3. Replace CPU

I know that the first two will be easy, but according to this thread, I need to replace my motherboard.

I see that there are multiple models that may be compatible with my current laptop. These are:

  • 3521 (current)
  • 5521
  • 3537
  • 5537

I am planning to buy a 3521 mobo with i7-3537U, but I also wanted to check if I can fit in a 5537 mobo with i7-4500U.

  1. Can I replace my current with the 3521? 5537? not at all?
  2. Also, can I use a DDR3/DDR3L 1866 instead of DDR3/DDR3L 1600? 1866 is cheaper.

My current laptop has the following specs:

  • 300GB HDD
  • 6GB RAM
  • i3-3227U
  • Windows 10

HDD Help

Hey, I'm pretty new to the inner workings of a laptop but I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY 15.6 Inch UHD Touchscreen Laptop with an Intel Core i7 2.6 GHz 6th Generation Processor, 1 TB HDD, 16 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M, Windows 10. (If anybody is wondering, you can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015PZ0EHS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've had it since about mid-march and it's been working okay so far. Today I was installing The Sims 3 with 3 expansion packs (I currently only have banished and Civ V installed) when I received a message that I had run out of disk space. Surely this can't be, I have a 1T hard-drive! I thought.

Now, I'm not as tech-savvy as my mum claims I am, so I didn't know a lot about my disk-drives but I googled how to locate my 1T hard-drive that was seemingly untouched and found that all I had to do was open diskmgmt.msc and locate the drive that isn't being used. Great! Easy. Except it doesn't seem to be there. Next, it tells me to reboot my laptop and press F2 to bring up another screen which should tell me it's there. It isn't, only my SSD.

Is there ANYTHING I'm doing wrong or anything else I could do to triple check it isn't there aside from opening up the back and physically checking? I don't want to send in a complaint or have to send my laptop away for a few weeks if there's something I might be missing!

Thanks for any responses!

TLDR: I ran out of space and can't locate my 1TB HDD on my laptop and I want to make sure I've done everything I can to locate it if it IS in there before I have to become a disgruntled customer

#DellSupport #unfair - #tactics to reduce claims #DellSupport RequestLatitude E7240#BSD#InWarranty#18]

Hi,

It appears that I have been a victim of warranty claim delay tactic to lapse the warranty time frame.

You can look at the claim number in the subject line to see the records.

I claimed that battery has a manufacturing safety defect that caused the battery to expand and be a safety hazard. I sent pictures of the expanding battery.

Initially, the support flatly refused to  look into it, and took the stance that due to standard wear of the battery, it is normal and not covered in the battery. Even though I had send the pictures and clearly indicated it was not the issue of battery capacity.

After a few exchange of emails, somebody from warranty services offered to help Only to tell me that Dell could only help me if I was still under warranty. Guess what, due to Dell support to and fro emails, now the warranty has lapsed. Since its lapsed, Dell cannot help.

What what gives? Is that the expected standard of practice going forward? Just after we though that HP was not worth doing business with, do we need to stop relying on Dell as well?
