Precision M3800 Won't Power-UP

0
0

For the past week my M3800 has not been powering-up consistently.  I noticed that the USB port that the Logitec mouse transmitter was plugged into was dead and the touch screen was not working.  The power-on button would light and the back-lit keyboard would light but the screen remained black.  I Googled this problem and found a disturbing number of users had similar issues.  I spent an hour and 20 minutes on the phone to Dell Tech Support and the conclusion was that a replacement motherboard was the only solution.  The quote from DELL CBS Team was $2,906.20 to replace the motherboard which had a 90 day warranty.  Are they kidding...

There were many posts on the DELL forums where users had had their motherboads replaced 2 or 3 times which would suggest that the replacement motherboards were also faulty.   As the machine is out of warranty I can't risk spending almost $3,000 on a replacement motherboard and have the same problem a few months later after the warranty has expired.

THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH DELL!!

Which screwdriver should be used for removing chassis of Dell Inspiron 3542 for replacing the ram?

Delivery fail *before* it left the depot - customer shouldn't take the hit?

 Hi all,

Had Dell Outlet recommended to me, found an Alienware 15 with the specs I wanted at a good price (and I'm not so worried about either refurbed machines, or 'scratch and dent' as it will mainly be house-bound and I'm more bothered about performance) so went ahead and bought it.

I tracked it Syncreon, saw it processed and set for delivery on the 15th March, nothing received for 6 days - no complaint there as they said it could be 5-10 days - but then had the status updated to "NOT REC'D/INCOMPLETE IN DEPOT" (?!?) on the 21st March.

Reached out to Dell support, heard back next day that they would look for it in the dept - allow 24/48 hours. If not found - they would put a tracer on it.

Chased 36 hours later - tracer now implemented - need another 48 hours. Not feeling confident...

Two questions:

1) Has anyone experienced this and can share previous outcomes?

2) As this is an internal processing error - why can't Dell simply replace with an outlet machine of equal spec? There is one available with product code. Or just refund / credit so I can buy another?

I am now stuck in limbo, whilst an internal error runs on and on. Good customer service would be to either refund the original purchase so I can buy a different machine, or send me a similar spec machine no?

I asked this of the support person yesterday, still to receive feedback.

Thanks for reading if you get this far.

Best,

DM

15th March - Tracked it in Syncreon, saw it scanned and dispatched from hub:

21st March - still no news, then received this update on status:

XPS 13 9360 and TBS16 Network Stopped working after March 22 2017 updpate

Hi,

I had my XPS 13 working fine on the TBS16 docking station, until the Dell update yesterday.

Now the network connection through the docking station is no longer working. In fact it does not even register the network adapter in device manager.

I have downloaded all the latest drivers for both TB16 and XPS 13, as well as the bios for the XPS 13 laptop, but no luck.

Dell Inspiron 5547 replacement DC jack looks different to original

I need to replace a faulty DC/power jack on a Dell Inspiron 5547. However, all of the replacements look different to the DC jack that is already in the laptop.

Please see the below images; the existing jack seems to have 4 outside pins with two middle ones, whereas the replacement is cylindrical with a hole in the middle. Apologies for the low-light.

The replacement:

My question is, despite the difference, will the replacement part (p/n: M03W3) fit with no issues?

Thanks in advance.

Dell Precision 5520 laptop questions

I just picked up a Precision 5520 for work and I have a few questions.

1) Is it normal that the fan is always running? Even when I lock the Windows 10 session and close the lid, the fan still runs.

2) I also have the Thunderbolt Dock but I've noticed that I lock the session and close the lid. When I come back the next day and login to the sessions and resume, the mouse (which is plugged into the dock) doesn't work until I quit Virtual Box.

3) It installed a bunch of Dell software that basically gives the browser access to my laptop, which I assume lets their website and ultimately their staff access my machine. Did anyone NOT install this software and enable this? This freaks me out as I don't know what these applications and the website is collecting from my machine.

Thanks

Hi Dell, you seem to be ignoring my other topic of the same subject

This needs fixing before it starts taking out the fans or blowing the motherboard fan controller, ie motherboard replacements.

Dell XPS 15 9550 Kernel Power 41 (task 63)

Hi All,

I love my dell XPS 15 9550, it has a 512GB SSD, 16gb ram and a 960m.

Everything is fine until I play games, 1 out of 2 times it freezes whilst playing, sometimes 10 minutes into a game, sometimes 40 minutes into a game....

I check event viewer afterwards and it is always a Kernel Power problem with the Event ID 41 and task 63..

Has anyone else experienced this and HOW have you solved your problem???

I am thinking it might be a hardware problem maybe????

Thank you.

Inspiron 15 5559 Laptop - 100% disk usage on startup

Hi,

I've had my laptop for about a year now and hardly ever use it. I've installed Google Chrome, CCleaner, AVG on it and that's about it.

Startup takes just over a minute. It's fairly loud (not something i'd expect from a fairly new laptop), I've factory reset it twice, yet disk usage on start-up is always 100% but the programs don't actually appear to be using much MB/s in the task manager window. CPU and Memory are okay and don't use much, but disk usage is a big problem. The disk usage does go down to 0-5% within a few minutes of startup but then once i start opening up programs like Chrome, the disk usage goes back up again and becomes sluggish.

I came across an article on "drivereasy.co.uk" and did everything the article said like: Disable Windows Search, Disable Superfetch service, reset virtual memory, disable antivirus software and windows defender, change the settings in google chrome and skype.

Nothing has worked.

I've also used Seagate Seatools to test the HDD and it has passed every test.

Perhaps this is normal, but I don't think it is because my older Dell Vostro 270 desktop computer works absolutely fine, and can have several programs open at once and disk usage never gets above 20%. Also worth mentioning the Desktop has lower specs than the Laptop.

Any help appreciated.

Factory Image

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R ( i7 Core) With Windows 10 Upgraded. I have tried several times to download Dell Backup and Recovery from Dell's website but every time that I do this, I keep getting a error message and it says as follows

Dell Backup and Recovery cannot be installed because your hard drive does not have a backup copy of your factory image.

My question is, How do I create a (Factory Image) for Windows 10 now installed?

Thanks, Sean

USB ports STOPPED working!!!

Hi, all of my USB ports stopped working. I have a 9mth old Dell Inspiron 5759 with Windows 10 and all updates. In DEVICE MANAGER, it shows all USB drivers as up to date and running correctly. Have though about uninstalling/reinstalling them but were do i get the replacement drivers or will Win10 automatically see they're not there?

If i plug in my MP3 player it is not recognized at all and won't charge/sync. DEVICE MANAGER shows it as an unsupported device and says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). A service installation section in this INF is invalid. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver." To my knowledge, the device does not have a specific driver and Sony does not provide one. I have never needed one previously.

If i plug in my phone I can charge but not sync. In DEVICE MANAGER, it shows as my phone like normal and says "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19).

Online, searching "Code 19" seems to apply to CD/DVD drives and mine will now not play CDs and I cannot see it in Win Media Player but I can see it in File Explorer and click on it but nothing plays. Music on my hard drive plays normally.

Any help anyone can give is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Dell I5555-1428BLK Issue - Shaky Video, Crash

0
0

Got this laptop for a project (automation).  Kicked it off and seemed to run fine.  After a several minutes, the video started shaking, the OS froze, and rebooted.  Tried several different RAM combinations, some worked, some 4 beeped.  Brought it back to as received (6GB DDR3L) and set it on a laptop cooler (basically a ventilated platform with a fan under it).  That seemed to help as I was able to at least take it to the Dell site and run diagnostics and download the latest BIOS (A06 to A12).  All other drivers are up-to-date. The Dell diagnostics only identified a possible battery issue (reaching end of life) but that can't be the problem as the machine is running on the AC adaptor.  After about 40 minutes, while trying to run Windows update, video started shaking and system freezing.  Rebooted and ran update again.  Finally concluded it's a heat issue.  Anyone have anything like this happen?

Inspiron 7352 laptop AC power adapter type cannot be determined

Sometimes the message says connect a Dell 45w adapter or higher. That is what I use. It's the original adapter. I've also received a message to use a 35w adapter. Sometimes it tells me to press F1 if I want to continue anyway.

Any suggestions?

Dell D3100 USB Dock - Issues with Redocking requiring reboot, doesn't power USB devices

0
0

I've been having issues lately with the Dell D3100.

These issues are all related to docking with the computer on, or from sleep, or with the D3100 powering on after the computer is on.

To resolve all these issues, I need to do a full power-off on the laptop and then power-on, which is obviously annoying and disruptive.

For example:

Have laptop power on fresh with dock attached - all works fine. Put laptop to sleep, unplug USB dock. Use laptop undocked. Then re-plug in the dock (either with laptop in sleep mode again, or not).

The dock usually outputs the displays correctly (though sometimes doesn't). But it ALWAYS does not re-attach the mouse & keyboard that are plugged into its USB ports. So then my USB mouse/keyboard do not work until I do a hard power-off of the laptop - defeating the purpose of live docking.

Also, I've noticed that trying to restart the laptop via software when it gets into this state will cause it to hang on the restart. It will keep saying "Restarting..." until you hard power off.

This is for Windows 10 Home. Maybe some Windows updates over the last couple months have started causing issues?

I expect this dock to work with all the docking scenarios. I should be able to unplug the USB and re-plug it in with audio, video, and USB all working. I should be able to put my laptop to sleep, take it with me and come back and plug the USB dock in and have everything come up working again.

This recent behavior and issues is making the dock more hassle than it's worth.

XPS 15 Laptop Sudden Shutdown Problem

0

I bought a Dell XPS 15 laptop with i7 6770 processor 1 TB SSD hard-drive and 32 GB of RAM a few months ago. I've recently started to have problems where it will suddenly shut down and then begin trying to turn itself back on again unsuccessfully. The power light comes on and I hear the computer 'revving' and then it shuts off and then tries to restart again. To stop this process I have to hold the power button when it is lit until I hear a super-rev and it shuts off. When I then go to restart the computer I am taken through the troubleshoot tests. The laptop passes the hardware test and tells me I have no problems with the hardware. Sometimes the computer then restarts okay. Other times I get to my login screen and the computer crashes again.

When I contacted Dell about the problem that had me reinstall Windows 10 Pro. After that reinstall I didn't encounter the problem for about two weeks (but I was also using the laptop less intensively then). The problem has now returned. I am using the computer at this moment, but I don't know whether it will suddenly shut off.

Does anyone have suggestions on what the issue might be? I read somewhere that it might be an overheating problem, but I'm not sure how to diagnose that issue. I did just adjust my Processor Power Settings and reduced the maximum from 100% to 99%. Time will tell whether that works.

Inspiron 14 3000 Series Hard Drive

I purchased an Inspiron 14 3000 Series along with Microsoft Office 365. I had difficulties loading the Microsoft Office software. After several attempts I took the laptop to a local Computer shop. They told me that there was not enough hard drive to support the software. I ask if they could put a larger hard drive on. They said yes but quickly found out the computer is not upgradeable. Now I want to know if I can trade the computer in for something with more hard drive? Secondly, why did DELL not inform me that the computer would be able to support the software that I purchased from you at the same time? I am very disappointed in DELL!

Differences between the 15.6" Ultrasharp displays offered on the Precision mobile workstations

Does anyone know if there is a difference in the bottom three displays in this image? I want to know if the one labeled "300 nits" is an anti-glare panel the same as the other two only with a camera included.

Dell Latitude 12 (7275) Front Webcam Activity light coming on briefly and intermittently.

As I have said in the title, My webcam front led light flashes randomly for no apparent reason. almost like it is taking quick snapshots of me or something. there is no software using the camera.

I have reimaged 10 to the device and I have disabled access to the cam from all software in the windows 10 settings. but I still randomly have the light flicker on for brief moments occasionally. I have noticed that it often happens when I am getting notifications. and more when I first sign into windows either from sleep or reboot. but I can not figure out what is activating the camera or camera light.

I can safely rule out malware since I re-imaged the device. (that didn't stop me from putting a tiny piece of tape over the lens though! lol)

any help is appreciated.
