Dell 17r 5737 can't sleep or shut down

Hello,

I have serious problems with my laptop. Sometimes when i close the lid it goes to sleep. But most of the times it doesn't. The fan and the hard drives are still working or sometimes i hear the hard drives spinning even louder.

I've checked my advanced power settings and i can't understand what's wrong.

I should mention that i've replaced my cd-rom with a 2nd hdd caddy. The fact that it doesn't always recognize the 2nd hard drive could be connected with the other problems?

Please help!!!!

New XPS 15 9560 keeps getting BSODs

3 Days ago my brand new dell XPS 15 9560 arrived. Everything started great, it worked smoothly (as expected) and I'm very happy with my purchase. The only thing that's bothering me is the fact that chrome keeps freezing the OS (which is really annoying).

Yesterday I started getting random BSOD's, the most error codes were POWER_STATE_FAILURE. After receiving this several times I started updating the driver (the one listed on the dell site) during these downloads I frequently received a DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error or a DRIVER_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR. But this still did not help, i kept frequently getting BSOD's.

Today I did a factory recovery, the only thing I installed was chrome and during the update of the NVIDEA drivers (which was the first thing I did after installing chrome) I got yet another BSOD DRIVER_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR. I'm not really sure what I am doing wrong, am i not allowed to update the drivers eventhough on the right bottom of my screen I get a warning of nvidea to update my drivers? Should I contact customers service and return this laptop?
I'm sure that all the drivers that I installed are the correct ones.

As I was writing this, my pc had another POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD, and I kept getting it while restarting my pc. This again occured while I was trying to reinstall the nvidea drivers. Each time after I logged in to my windows account my mouse pointer dissapeared and after a while I'd get the same BSOD... I found out when starting pc without plugging in the power my mouse pointer actually appeared.

Thanks in advance for the help.

This is trash.

Vostro 3700 fan / power issue

Hi. Hope somebody can shed some light on an interesting problem on my laptop.

Spec

I7, 17.3", 8Gb ram, 120 SSD, out of warranty of course.

History

I dis-assemble this workstation once a year to clean the air ducts on the fan. They tend to get clogged up and there is no effective way apart from dis-assembly to clean them. I take a lot of car and with 30 years in the IT industry I think I am expert enough not to cause any damage and to know what I am doing.

The issue

On the last clean the workstation worked perfectly before being taken appart, apart from getting very hot of course. I took the necessary precautions, cleaned it up and put it back together again. But now something interesting happened. When I switch the power on it starts and boots into os etc, but the fan does not come on. Eventually it switches off because of high temperature. Before anyone asks, I did check the fan power cable. I repeated the assembly process about 10 times in the last two days to see if I missed something.

I tested the fan on a different power supply and it works fine. I checked the voltages on the board with the fan plugged in and it seems the fan positive voltage does not exceed 3.1v. I tested all the input voltages from the power supply to the motherboard and they all test fine. There is no visible damage anywhere and all plugs are connected.

Now comes the really weird part. There is a strip connected under the keyboard to the left top. approx. 12 mm wide. It connects the indicator lights, volume buttons and power switch to the motherboard. If I disconnect that cable and the it switches on automatically the fan comes on and the workstation runs fine. If I use that strip to power on the laptop and then disconnect it as soon as the operating system starts, the system runs fine. The moment I re-connect that strip the fan stops working.

I have never seen something likes this before and there is not bios settings to mess around with the fan. Any tips would be appreciated. See below photo of the strip.

Scrolling Doesn't Work?

So I bought a new Inspiron 15 5578 2-in-1 laptop and noticed I can only scroll using 2-fingers.

I want to be able to scroll with one finger but there are no settings to do this.

I want to be able to linearly scroll (up and down) without having to use 2 fingers.

When I attach a USB mouse, the scroll works but I want to be able to do that without a mouse.

I have also toggled the scroll lock using the on-screen keyboard but still nothing.

Inspiron 15R 5537 - LAN Ethernet Driver doesn't work

Hello Colleagues!

As you can see, I have an Inspiron 15R 5537, which I used to use to run Windows 8.1. Recently I've updated for Windows 10 HOME 64bits. Everything is running fine, except the cable ethernet driver. I've tried Realtek 8105/8106E LAN driver (recommended in Dell support website for my computer), without success. Then, reading some foruns, tried a couple of different drivers, no success at all.

The computer doesn't recognize the cable connection when put it inside. Seems like the driver is dead... The thing is it was running fine in Windows 8.1.

Do you have any recommendations for fixing this issue?

Thank you in advance!

Driver Needed for Clean Installing Windows 10?

Laptop:  XPS 13, 9360.  I am upgrading the stock SSD, (San Disk 128 GB), with a Samsung 960 Pro 512 GB.  Want to do a clean install of Windows 10 off a USB drive.  The install process begins but I am quickly prompted to install the missing driver:  "No signed device drivers were found.  Make sure the installation media contains the correct drivers. . ."
If I'm not mistaken that driver is the Intel Rapid Storage Driver, no?  If so, I have it installed on the thumb drive but it isn't showing up during the install process.  What am I doing wrong?

Hi, I've left my laptop on a train last night and not been able to trace it. I have spoken to the train station but it's not been handed in. I have the service tag, invoice, receipt etc.  I have reported it lost/stolen on the DELL website. I'm not sure what to do! Is there a way of tracing the laptop to find its location? Is the laptop covered in the Warranty? Thanks Mike

Dell DataSafe pop up

I've had my Dell laptop for a few years now and don't recall this ever popping up before. I have a pop up in the lower right hand corner from Dell DataSafe tht asks me to create a system recovery media. I don't know if it's something I'm supposed to do or if it's malware or something disguised as something from Dell. I don't recall ever seeing it before nor did I ever sign up and pay for it. Is this something normal that needs to be done? Like I said I've had this laptop for 3 or 4 years and never recall it popping up before. There is no "X" to close it, I have to choose now or later to get it off my screen.

Hi,

i have some issues with my Dell XPS 13 (9350) and Dell TB16. I connected a 4K Monitor on the MiniDP Port and another 1080P Monitor on the HDMI Connector. I get constant dropout of my 4K Monitor, like every 1-2h min. the screen goes black and after a few moment the video comes back. Updating everything to latest BIOS, TB Firmware, Video Drivers does not working. I tried to disable TB security in BIOS but this doesnt help either.

I tested my TB16 with another device, this time it is my company Lenovo P50. Everything works great with this device, no video dropouts, i tested this several ours.

So what is wrong with the Dell XPS13 and Thunderbolt?
