Dell Inspiron 3162 SATA driver for windows 7 reformat

I purchased this variant of the laptop recently.

www.ozbargain.com.au/node/261518

Basically, I can't find the SATA drivers needed for the laptop to recognise my SSD when booting from a windows 7 pro usb drive (laptop came shipped with windows 10 home)

I've been following this guide.

dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows-7/windows-7-installation/

I've followed the instructions to use legacy boot and to turn off secure boot, however I think I need the SATA drivers so it can recognise the 128GB SSD as I've been getting this prompt.

youtu.be/J_uWgOuZM-w?t=1m22s

I can't find the "intel rapid storage SATA pre-os" driver on the dell website, like this guide states here

dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/downloading-preparing-and-loading-sata-drivers/

I am not knowledgable about how the BIOs interacts with windows 7/10, and/or what legacy boot or UEFI does. I'm really just following guides

If then how can i get it installed without any warranty issues. I bought my laptop in India. I did not find any document regarding the limitations of the warranty. Please help.

XPS 15's everlasting coil whine

Dear Dell and community members,

With this post, I would like to express my displeasure about Dell's handling of the XPS 15's coil whine issue. I would like to start a conversation about this persisting problem and I truly hope that Dell will engage in the discussion as well. My goal is to really urge Dell to find a real solution for its customers.

I have bought the new XPS 15 9560 (512GB SSD, 16GB memory, 4K) and I have been using it for some weeks now. I like the machine as the screen is great, the touchpad is really good for a Windows laptop, it is quiet on idle, and most importantly it handles all tasks well. However, I have noticed the common problem that when the AC adapter is plugged in and the battery is fully charged, there is an annoying high pitched noise (coil whine) coming from the upper left area of the keyboard. I found out on the internet that many other people have the same problem and that it even exists for a few years meaning that the issue hasn't been tackled with the introduction of new models.

It also became clear to me that none of the threads I read contained solutions that worked for a majority of the XPS owners who also had the coil whine issue. Therefore, I decided to contact Dell Netherlands (as I bought my laptop there) in the hope that there would still be a solution to the problem. A really nice and friendly guy tried to help me but also he admitted that it is a common problem and that no true solution exists. Some customers decide to replace the motherboards or power plug, however, many times the problem persists. He explained that it is normal in the case of the XPS 15 to hear the coil whine as an "electric signal" is traveling through the motherboard. I would say that the design of the motherboard is therefore deficient as it allows the coil whine to be, in some cases, loud enough for the users to be heard. Replacing the motherboard wouldn't therefore guarantee that the issue would be solved.

I find it hard to accept this conclusion. Of course I realize that this product is mass produced and that therefore some machines might be faulty and that they can be replaced or fixed through warranty. And I also know that complaints on the internet don't necessarily represent the experiences of most users. However, this issue really seems to be caused by a lack of dedication from Dell's side to listen to its customers and actively search for a solution.

As you perhaps know VP General Manager of the XPS Frank Azor frequently replies to tweets from users who have questions or complaints which I really appreciate. Recently, a guy called Mike asked him on Twitter: "Hi Frank, could you please tell me if your guys are really working on the widespread xps coil whine issue as I have been told?" Frank then answered: "Yes, we recognize some systems suffer from this, we will fix and/or replace and new designs are addressing to prevent” (see here: https://twitter.com/AzorFrank/status/832235472067948546). Apparently, the issue is so serious that new designs address the issue which is of course a good thing. While Frank might be really speaking the truth, to me it sounded very familiar. The same issue people experience today was already reported in 2013 by the Dell Community concerning the XPS 9530 (see here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19536279/20581724). In 2014, Patrick Leimbert kept asking Dell on Twitter whether they already fixed the issue as Dell responded every time by saying that the engineering team is looking into it (see here: https://twitter.com/pleimb/status/446253568627326976). Now it is 2017 and it seems that the engineering team hasn’t been very successful as the latest model of the XPS 15 still has the issue.

Therefore, I very much doubt whether there is any truth to the story that there will be new designs that will address the coil whine issue. In fact, it sometimes seems that Dell says things to its customers to try and keep them happy without really searching for a solution. For example, someone said on Reddit: “They're sending an engineer to my house to replace it with "a new design of motherboard that will solve the problem"” (see here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/5styjq/xps_15_9560_high_pitch_noise_coil_whine/), which would be strange as the laptop has only be launched one/ two months ago meaning the engineering team has been working on a new design in the past weeks while it didn’t succeed in finding a solution in 2013, 2014, 2015, or 2016 when the issue was also known.

I merely would like to hear a sincere response from Dell, are you really going to address the issue by making new motherboards or are you still replacing motherboards with the same ones in the hope that it will solve the coil whine issue? What can I expect as a customer? If there are really new motherboards being designed, when can I expect them?

Dell Vostro V131 battery not working - shuts off immediately when unplugged

My 5 year old Dell Vostro V131 battery doesn't seem to work anymore when unplugged. When it's plugged-in and charging, the computer works fine, but the red "low battery' light blinks constantly. The battery meter shows that the battery is 100% charged. But as soon as the power cord is unplugged, the computer immediately shuts off.

What might be the problem? Should I purchase a new battery?

Dear Community,

I am looking for a 13" laptop for light AutoCAD drafting and light Revit modeiling, and the laptop should be able to support 2 monitors. Currently I am using two 23" Apple Cinema HD monitors with 1920 X1200 resolution.

Reason for a small screen is that I can take my work to present to client but work at the office with 2 monitors

I am considering Dell XPS 13-9000 series but welcome any recommendation.

I have recently purchased a new Dell Inspiron 15 5578 2-in-1 Laptop. When I plugin the charger, the battery is only charging upto 60% and after that it says not charging.

I have tried to install the Dell Quickset software and changed the settings in battery management software and tried all the ways I found in forums. Still I am having the same issue.

Can anyone had the same issue & solved it.

Please help me to find out the solution for this.

Battery failing

I am having a problem with the battery failing on my new dell laptop. It would run for several days on a full charge 6 months ago when I bought it, now it only last 2 to 3 hours. No battery intensive activity's like videos, just web surfing, Quicken etc. Medium brightness setting,  nothing to cause a battery to run down so quick.

My Dell Latitude E5440 won't boot. Just black screen with power light on. If i pres the power button, the fan running and turns off

I have tried the following:

- Pulled the battery out, connect the charger and turn on

- Removed BIOS battery, connect the charger and turn on

- Swapped RAM

- Removed both RAM, and try 1 RAM

None of these helps. I have tried to remove all RAM and turn on, fan running and turns off. It is out of warranty and I'm lazy to fully disassemble my laptop

XPS 15 9560 USB-C port not working for Ethernet

I received my new XPS 15 earlier this week and am trying to get the USB-C port to work with Ethernet. At first using the TB16 I could not get video or Ethernet to work. I went through all the suggestions I could find and as a result I have updated my bios and my drivers (all downloaded using WIFI). The video through the TB16 is now working, but with either the TB16 or the DA200 adapter the Ethernet does not work properly. It says it is connected but response on my network is deadly slow and I can't connect to the internet at all. It is the same for both devices. It won't finish booting if I have it connected on a reboot/power up. Not being able to connect to the internet makes it difficult to use Support Assist.

One thing I have noticed (which may be the way it is intended) is that in the device manager if I don't have anything connected I don't see the device listed. Once I plug something in it shows up.

I really need some help with this!

Inspiron I7 7000 2-in-1 Hard Drive(s) Confused

I'm confused. Just bought a 2 in 1 notebook as above which is advertised with a 1tb hard drive and a 120g SSD.... went through start up procedure installing Windows etc.

It has installed Windows 10 on the 1tb hard drive - designated as the C:Drive.  And the SSD 120gb -designated as the D: data drive is empty?

I spoke to someone at Dell - who told me that there is only one drive and that it is partitioned.

So how does that work - ? how can one bit be SSD ?  And why is OS not installed on that.

I'm probably being really thick but would welcome explanation thanks

USB-C Network connection not functioning properly

I just received an XPS 15 9560. I have tried using both a DA200 adapter and TB16 docking station. I have video (haven't checked audio), but my network connection is not working right. After several minutes it will finally connect, but it is slow at best and my internet connection is non-existent. If I run with my wifi card all is well.

I have messed with driver and chipset updates, power settings on the computer and wifi card - basically anything I could find and nothing has worked. While I can work on the wifi, it defeats the purpose of having the TB 16 or even the adapter. I assume since the adapter doesn't work right either it must be the port or some setting for it.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Windows 10 facial id login

I have my brand new windows 10 laptop from Dell.  One of the less important reasons I got it was to be able to have facial recognition instead of typing in a password.  Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the Inspiron 3558, even though it had a camera, could not do facial recognition.  At least that's what the message pops up and tells me when I try to install it.

Why not?

I figured this was a windows 10 operating function, not a laptop camera issue?  Can this be overcome?  I appreciate any help I receive on this.

Anyone having issues with their Inspiron 15 7559 touchpad "sleeping"?

I got an Inspiron 15 7559 a few weeks ago and quickly realized that if I leave the computer idle for more than 5 minutes or so (or use a mouse for more than that amount of time), the touchpad will deactivate, i.e., the pointer will be frozen if I try moving my finger on the touchpad. If I click on one of the touchpad buttons (actually press the pad down), it will wake up and the pointer will be active again. I would prefer to shut this off so I don't have to click before the touchpad will work. Any ideas? I have been all through the mouse settings and power settings and didn't see anything.

15min delay before POST

Hi,

I have a Dell Latitude E6510. It worked just fine, but after changing the hdd to an ssd, after pushing the power button, all I have is a blank screen for exactly 15 minutes, after which I get the usual BIOS screens, and the system boots as if nothing has happened. I have also reviewed and changed some BIOS settings.

I have flashed the BIOS, but before that, I had a problem of the BIOS settings resetting to a previous value.

It seems to me, it is some kind of timeout, waiting for some non-existent hardware to be ready. Probably as I replaced the hard drive, a connection got loose?

Please advise me, could this be a faulty BIOS setting? Maybe some security measurement? If it is a missing hardware, the BIOS is waiting for, how could I pinpoint which is it?

If anyone from Dell reads this, could the 15min delay be any clue? Is it a BIOS feature that emerges only in certain situations?

The boot menu "Diagnostics" reports no errors.

The BIOS logs accessed through the BIOS setup menu show no errors.

Things I have tried and did not work:

- use the old hdd -> the 15min delay is still there

- load defaults in BIOS

- disable what I could in BIOS

- re-flashing BIOS

- removing and reconnecting BIOS battery

- booting without the laptop battery

- booting without any hdd

- booting after removing one of the memory modules

- installing windows is possible, after installation it works fine, but after a restart, it cannot boot anymore, dies with a flash of blue screen, then after a while a "startup repair" is loaded, which searches for problems, and but cannot do anything

- ubuntu works all the time

- using different hdds - I have tried 3 hdd-s, all of which worked fine in other machines.

Latitude E7440 - Dual External Displays Without Dock?

$

Hi,

Does anyone know if the Latitude E7440 can support two external displays without a dock? Can you have one plugged in to the mini displayport and one in to HDMI or USB and output just to these displays?

Or is it limited to just the laptop display and one single external display?

Currently I'm using windows 10 operating system.

Thanks!
