Inspiron 15-3543 broken USB port

I have three USB ports on my Inspiron 15-3543, two on the left side and one on the right side. From what I can see in the service manual for this model that port is part of the I/O Board orr at least that is what it looks like to me. My question is how can I make the repair for this piece of hard ware. I can not find a I/O Board any where for sale. Is it possible to just replace the USB port or do I need to replace the bard. Next question where can I get the replacement part(s) to make this repair? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dell XPS 13 - Trackpad not always registering physical clicks

For the past few days, my XPS 13 trackpad has gotten progressively worse at registering clicks when I physically push the trackpad down to click. All other movements and gestures work perfectly fine, and I can still tap to click, but this new development is still very annoying. In order to get left clicks to register, I have to push down very hard on the trackpad or click as many as four to five times to get it to register.

It does not feel or look like anything is lodged beneath the trackpad, but it is still possible I suppose. The trackpad's tactile feedback is no different now than it ever was, and it is still flush to the surface like it always has been. Has anyone else experienced issues like this? It is very frustrating.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

10016 error after driver upgrade

Hi:

Surprised not seen reports of this kind.  It occurred to me every time I upgraded drivers from Dell.  The reason was the installer did not do a good job to change the owner after installation.  I always needed to do it manually with regedit.  Brieftly,

1. In event viewer, find the culprit which crashed my machine.  It's always DCOM.

2. Use regedit to find the record with the corresponding key.

3. Change the owner to "administrator".  The installer always left "TrustedInstaller" there, which was the problem.

4. Give "administrator" "full-control" and make it inheritable.

5. There should be two keys.  Both of them need to be changed.

Hopefully Dell will fix this in the future driver release.

Touch screen not working

My touch screen for my Inspiron 3558 stopped working today and I don't know why but I want it back. I tried running diagnostics for the touch screen in the product support section but it said it was "unable to find the selected device" and suggested I go to the drivers and downloads page to install the latest drivers, but when I did, it said that "no driver updates were found" so now I have absolutely no idea what to do. Can someone please help me? Thank you!

Advice on budget laptop config

Hi,

I need a laptop for

* streaming video (NetFlix, Sky Go, Amazon video ) via HDMI cable to my 22 inch 1080p LCD TV

* LogMeIn to my work desktop

* general web browsing

I have a budget of around £400 - £500.

Would a 6th Generation Core i3 with 8GB RAM be good enough or do I need Core i5 or 7th Generation?

Thanks for your help and advice

Hi everyone,

I experience some issues with my I7559.

Basically, when i launch my computer, i have the dell logo, and just after a blackscreen. No windows 10, Nothing, just a black screen.

Nothing happen during hours, if i don't close the computer manualy.

So, i reboot in safe mode, disable the GTX960, relaunch the computer : no blackscreen.

Hardware problem ? Driver ?

All the material test from dell are ok ( yes make an F12 too) -

No change with a clean reinstall ( iso from the dell website by usb )  and driver install from dell website one by one in order and flash bios.

No change with a clean reinstall ( iso from dell ) , driver from dell,  all windows update, windows drivers update, nvidia driver update, everything upadte ...

Everything is ok if i use only my intel card , but not realy a great solution.

Do you have some kind of advice to fix it ?

Thanks

Latitude E6400 External Mouse and Keyboard won't connect

I received a Dell Latitude E6400 for christmas and I would like to use a mouse and keyboard with it but when I plug them into the USB ports, there isn't a notification of it being configured or anything. I know the mouse and keyboard work because I used them with my other laptop. I've tried letting them sit plugged in for awhile, uninstalling the USB root hub and reinstalling them, I've tried rebooting the laptop with them plugged in. When I plug in the keyboard, the lights turn on for about 2 seconds then shut off and nothing happens after that. WIth my mouse, the light stays on but doesn't work. Please Help!

Thanks, Alex

Press F12 to clear the TPM message

Hello, recently I got a TPM lockout, probably from restarting the laptop too often/quickly and logging in via the Windows 10 PIN option.

After the lockout, I made a poor-choice and used the tpm.msc windows application to clear the TPM.  But I never went through with it when prompted to on startup.

Afterwards, I went online and did some more research and realized I do not want to clear the TPM, I simply wanted to clear the lockout, which eventually happened automatically given some time with the laptop plugged in.

However, the following pesky message keeps showing up at startup.  I keep pressing ESC but every bootup, it keeps showing up.

A configuration change was requested to clear this computer's TPM (Trusted Platform Module)

WARNING: Clearing erases information stored on the TPM. You will lose all created keys and access to data encrypted by these keys.

Press F12  to clear the TPM

Press ESC  to reject the change request and continue

How do I remove this message?  I do not wish to clear the TPM and reinstall Windows 10.

I own a Dell Inspiron 7559 which was purchased on November 2016.

Inspiron Mini 1012 Keyboard/Touchpad don't respond after Power Jack Replacement

0
0

I replaced my power jack and am able to get to the login screen. But the resident keyboard and touchpad are now unresponsive. The Mini will respond to the wireless keyboard from my PC on pre-login functions, such as F2 - Setup and F12 - Boot Options, but when the login screen comes up and prompts for a password, the Mini no longer responds to the wireless keyboard, either.

The Mini didn't respond to my wireless mouse under any circumstances.

There were a couple of complications during my reassembly of the Mini, following installation of a new power jack. There is supposed to be a thin plastic locking mechanism that can be opened to release the touchpad ribbon cable from its port and then closed after the ribbon cable has been reconnected, and the plastic piece clamps down on the ribbon cable with a firm click to keep it from disconnecting from the port. This plastic piece must have broken off, but I was never able to find it, and the cable won't stay connected without it, so I tried using electrical tape to keep the cable immobilized once it was connected.

A similar thing happened with the keyboard ribbon cable. There is a thin brown locking piece that works the same way, opening to release the keyboard cable, and then closing over it with a click when it has locked the cable into its port. This plastic piece came loose, and no matter how hard I tried to get it reattached to the port so that it would close over the ribbon cable and lock it down, I was unable to do so. In fact, during the attempt, a small bit of the corner on the top side of the port broke off, so now I'm not sure it is even possible to reattach the plastic lock. I ended up using electrical tape to keep the cable from moving, once I had pushed it as far as it would go into the port.

I finished reassembling the Mini and what I wrote in the first paragraph was the result. The new power jack did its job, but the keyboard and touchpad are dead. I know I "tortured" these two cables a bit in the effort to get them to stay in their ports and may have damaged them in the attempt, before finally taping them down. Either that, or the pins in the cables are not making contact with the pins in the ports with the electrical tape, which they would have done had they been secured by the plastic locking pieces.

I don't know what to do to diagnose this new problem and am not sure it is even possible to do so if the wireless keyboard won't let me log on so I can access the diagnostic tools, etc. I don't know how to get to the O/S code or what to do if I got there. Or if I even COULD get there using the wireless keyboard.

In other words, I'm stumped. Does anyone have any ideas about "next steps" that I could try in order to verify that only the keyboard and touchpad were affected by my "repair?" And if I'd need to replace the board with the touchpad and keyboard ports on it, as well as the keyboard and touchpad themselves?

Thank you for any help you can provide!

Can you please help?

Thanks

Does 9343 Dell 2015 XPS 13 i5-5200U support NVME drive?

Hi,

Read conflicting reports that the Dell XPS 13 supports NVME drives. Considering its a SATA M.2 connection I find that hard to believe. So was wondering which SSD 512GB or greater drives are compatible with the XPS 9343 - 13 laptop ?

Thanks

Hello everyone. I recently just purchased two of the Dell Inspiron 13 5378 laptops. Both are Core i7, 8g ddr4 and 256SSD.

Can a second SSD be added?

Can the fan be upgraded? It seems a bit undepowered and the laptop gets very hot as a result.

thanks
