Experiencing overheat issues with my XPS 13 9360 since updating to BIOS 1.3.2

I recently updated to the 1.3.2 firmware (based on the Urgent severity) for my 9360. Ever since then I have been seeing messages like this (I do run linux, but that should not have bearing on this issue):

[ 2403.008691] CPU1: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)

[ 2403.008691] CPU3: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
[ 2403.008693] CPU0: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
[ 2403.008693] CPU2: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
[ 2403.008695] CPU3: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
[ 2403.008697] mce: [Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged
[ 2403.008700] CPU1: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
[ 2403.008701] mce: [Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged

Fan activity seems also to be reduced, but that is only my perception, not based on actual measurement. I do not recall getting these messages prior to the bios update.

Would welcome any suggestions as to how to resolve this. Unfortunately I cannot revert to the previous BIOS version as Dell does not seem to offer downloads of the older BIOS versions.

External Keyboard not working in BitLocker screen (E6330)

I installed several E6330 with Win10 Enterprise and BitLocker encryption.

When the laptop is docked in the keyboard stops working at the BitLocker password screen. Before that (BIOS) and after that (Win) the keyboard works.

To top it all the error is inconsistent in it's behavior. Some times the keyboard works for a little while, most of the time it doesn't work from the start. I tried different Fast Boot options but changing those does not help.

Anyone here with similar problems or who even solved this for his systems?

Dell Inspiron 13 does not wake up from sleep after plug in HDMI-VGA connector

I am using Dell Inspiron 13 series 5000 laptop with Windows 10 pre-installed and I have the following problem.  I have an external monitor connected via VGA cable, VGA to HDMI adapter and to HDMI port on laptop. When I put the computer to sleep, disconnect the VGA - HDMI adapter and then connect it back, it is unable to wake the computer up from sleep. The only solution is to disassemble the back cover and unplug and plug again the battery (it is quite annoying, since it is not possible to unplug the battery without disassembling the back cover). The problem persisted if I was testing it with only the adapter (without monitor VGA cable plugged into it). Therefore my question is: Is it hardware or software problem? If it is hardware, which component should be replaced? Battery, motherboard, HDMI connector or something else? Thanks in advance!

Huge battery drain on brand new XPS 9550

I am seeing a huge battery drain on my XPS 9550 within months of purchasing it.  I am using Windows 10 and on the latest patch that came out in Jan 2017.  The battery power goes from 100 to 0 within 1.5 hours of using.  When I look in the 'Battery Usage by App', I see Chrome sucking up 51% of the battery, Acrobat PDF using 23%, Word using 9%, etc. Is anyone else experiencing this? It's a shame if the delivered battery is the cause  of it all.

Alternative Keyboard - Precision M7510?

Hello,

I bought a new Dell Precision M7510 laptop, and I found out that the END and HOME keys moved down (like in home use Laptops).

This is a real problem for professional working (coding etc...) it's a Workstation for hard work

Is there any option to replace the "standard" keyboard (hardware) with some other Dell keyboard? I do not care about the backlit option.

Thanks,

Miki

Alienware 15 R3 makes static/electrical rhythmic buzzing noise

My Alienware is around a week old, and yesterday I noticed a buzzing noise (comes in pulse of three) coming out from the right side of the laptop, it's noticeable in a quiet room. Sound disappears when I unplug the ac adapter though. Is this coil whine? or is it something else?

KeyInclude Fails

Attempting to use the KeyInclude Recovery & Restore program on a Latitude E6530 laptop. After finally getting KeyInclude to work, I can go completely through to the Data Backup section (with successful checks along the way).

At the end of the Data Backup, which is Green Checkmark Successful, I'm also Orange Flagged: One of the tasks performed failed or has been cancelled. Details reports WDC drive info: Cannot get Smart status. The only option is to Restart--which I've done previously.

Thought that maybe this had to do w BIOS. Turned on SMART status in BIOS. No change. Verified that drive reports SMART data through a third party app.

Although I like the idea of KeyInclude for recovery, it's been a failure. There are multiple issues--most of which I've worked through--yet the idea is to Restore. I've now wasted 3+ hours on a not-yet-ready for prime time app.

If somebody has a solution to this, please submit! And NO: I'm NOT a ROBOT.

Slowed down - Inspiron 5559 Laptop, i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHZ 2.40GHz, 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

As usual, when new, this laptop ran so well. I did add some necessary programs and have the usual slow down.

I have three questions,

  1. Is it the processor that governs the over all speed? I had a 1.6GHz that was incredibly slow. The 2.6 was initially fast and made me happy.
  2. Would it be cost effective to change out the processor? Can I change out the processor?
  3. Is there a program that really will 'clean up' the *** that slows down a pc? I use Glary and/or Ccleaner. All they seem to do is eliminate my shortcuts and automatic signin locations.

Thanks to all who strive to assist those of us who are frustrated.

May you be blessed in ways you have not yet imagined.

Tech support tells me to restore Windows 7 image, image cannot be downloaded and now Dell wants to charge me 67 euros for a USB key

Hello

Im very fed up with Dell's service.

I have a Precision 5510 that came with Windows 7 and a 500GB NVMe SSD. Performance was horrible without installing anything so I called up tech support.  Tech support told the usual deal: That I had to reinstall the OS. The USB key that came with the laptop had Windows 10.

Yesterday I start downloading the image from Dell's support site at 0800. At 1500 it finished and when using Dell's OS Recovery tool it says it is corrupted. I tried from another location with another internet connection and same thing.

Obviously angered and frustrated at the time I lost, I called up my sales rep and he offered to send me a USB key with Windows 7 for 67 euros.

This is a laptop for business use that has cost the company not only 2000 euros but a lost of productivity because of losing time on downloading the image. Dell should send me the key without any charge because I still dont think reinstalling a factory image on a laptop that from factory came slow is going to resolve anything.

WD15 dock with DELL XPS15 causes static in speakers after using headset

I've got a WD15 hooked up to my XPS15 laptop and it works fine. Latest drivers and chipset/BIOS installed on both Dock and laptop.

I have a pair of external active studio speakers hooked up to the 3.5 mm Speaker out jack on the back of the dock and it works fine.

However if I use Google Hangouts or Skype for business calls and plug in a headset to the front 3.5 mm Headset Jack of the dock the external speakers starts a high pitch static noise. If I then un-plug and replug the 3.5 mm jack for the speakers the noise is gone. The sound and mic of the headset is working fine from start.

The same thing happens when I unplug the headset from the front of the dock, the external speakers starts to "hum" static noise. Again un-plugging the 3.5 mm jack of the speakers and plugging it in again stops the humming static.

If I instead plug the headset into the Laptop there is no problem and the external speakers remains quite.

Why is it doing this and how can I get rid of this annoying behavior?

Battery issue XPS 15 9550

Hello,

I bought a XPS 15 9550 laptop last November, everything was fine until now. I didn't have a big use of the laptop (always staying on the desktop, never fell). I am very careful with it !!

But today a notification from SupportAssist told me that something went wrong with my battery. I first remarked that when I unplugged the AC cable, the laptop switched off. Then the light on the frontside for battery is orange and flickering each time I turn on the computer.

The battery is stuck at 59% and it's written "plugged in, not charging". Of course I did loads of research about that, did all the updates: drivers, BIOS, etc... I even disconnected the battery cable (the one that connects it to the motherboard) and reconnected it ,but nothing changed.

Please answer me and help me repair it, it is very important and I hope to have enough support from Dell.

Thank you a lot,

Herosix

Running most recent BIOS. I've disabled different hardware I have no real use for (webcam, microphone, touch screen) but besides hardware, is there anything in the BIOS that can be safely turned off that can potentially free up some battery?

Thanks!

Driver Installation on Latitude E4300 with Windows 7 Ultimate

$

Hi! I recently bought a second hand Dell Latitude E4300 laptop. It comes with a pre-built Windows 7 Ultimate operating system. Drivers are not yet installed so I manually download the drivers in the Dell website and install them. I used this guide while installing the drivers. I have problems in installing some drivers. Somehow I cannot install Intel Matrix Storage Manager. I skipped this part.

My laptop runs Centrino 2 vPro. According to Wikipedia, Centrino 2 Laptops have WiMAX, I also found a driver in the support page (of my laptop). But then when I tried installing the WiMAX driver, I got an error. It says: "The software package cannot be installed on your system. The setup application will exit".

I also tried installing Embassy Security and its drivers. I tried enrolling my fingerprint. But an error ocurred: "An error ocurred fingerprint enrollment. Please try to re-enroll this fingerprint. If you continue to receive this error, please contact technical support". I tried opening Control Vault WBF and enabling Windows Biometric Framework. But whenever I enable it, it says: "Error: Could not enable WBF Interface".

I installed Latitude ON to my device, it boots up normally. But it doesn't seem to get the email from the Outlook (Outlook 2010 is installed). Also, keyboard is not working when I boot in Latitude ON. However, trackpad and touchpad works perfectly (as well as their buttons).

What should I do? Thanks in advance!

XPS13-9350 Black Screen of death!!

$

Hey all,

I have read many forum posts about this issue and have finally succumbed to it.

My laptop was working fine all of yesterday and when i then went to load it again, i suddenly was greeted with the black screen after the Dell logo upon startup. They keyboard is still working, however when plugging it into a monitor it still does not load or recognize. At the same time, factory and BIOS restarts have not done anything to resolve the issue. Changing from RAID start up also has not helped. It seems no matter what i have tried i still receive the black screen upon start up.

Anyone have any good ideas?

Also note, I have recently moved to Germany upon purchasing this laptop and am not in a position (for at least the next two months) to be able to take it back to where it was purchased from (Australia).

Dell Inspiron 15 7000 gaming (Intel) - 7567

Does anyone know what the symbol means on the S key, it looks like a FAN or propeller?

And how does it function, does it need to be combined with FN key or other key combination?

Any new Precision 3520 owners out there? Opinions?

My current M4700 has been my gp development machine, and other than the sporadic Radeon induced laptop hang, it has served me well. I run it with two solid state drives, and although performance is more than sufficient its getting creaky. Its coming up on 5 years, so I'm shopping for a solid portable workstation.

in looking at the 3510, its widely reported that it was a Windows 10 disaster; I think they've finally worked out all the bugs, but I sure don't want to deal with these issues.

if you have a 3520, and I know they're pretty new, i’d love to hear your initial thoughts.

Thanks
