Failing Hard Drive on Inspirion 17

Seems to be working OK for now but not for long? Dell Diagnostics telling me (2000-0142) to replace disk soonest. Would very much like to do a 100 percent backup before doing so to make things easier with the new disk. Does my PC (itself) have any back up tools?


XPS 13 9365 not waking up

Laptop is plugged in the whole night, open the lid in the morning and the laptop just doesn't wake up, regardless of whether I press the power button, keys, Ctrl-Alt-Del, etc

Battery is verified charged by pressing the button and AC adaptor is lit.

Eventually after lifting/moving, connecting/disconnecting power, it will wake up.  This is fairly consistent but not all the time.

I wonder if it is because I enable detecting Tablet mode automatically (and it has a problem with that). I will try disabling and reporting back.

Any feedback from Dell Support or other owners out there?

Severe BSOD problem on different Dell models

We have several machines which are getting a bsod. It's only on Dell machines. The systems are running Win7 x86 and others x64. The errors are divers. SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION or ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY or ...

We can't figure out what it could be but we are thinking of false drivers. How to see this? And how to resolve it?

Inspiron M301Z SD card driver

Could anyone help me please. I have upgraded my Dell Inspiron M301Z laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The SD card slot worked with Windows 7 but not with Windows 10. There is no response when the SD card is inserted.

Dell has not upgrade drivers on this model to Windows 10. Can anyone help me to activate in order to use my SD cards?

Hello. I have a dell laptop that is only about 6 months old. For some reason my mail app in the start menu has stopped sending or receiving mail from all of me email accounts. This has been gonf on for over a week now and is very frustrating. Can anyone offer some insight? It would be greatly appreciated.

Does Precision 7710 second PCIe SSD run on SATA bus?

Hi, 

I'm custom configuring a Precision 7710 system and trying to pick a 2nd SSD.  

The boot drive will be the "512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe High Performance Class 50 Solid State."   I believe it's connected directly to the PCIe bus buss via an M.2 connector.  

For the second drive I'm considering the "512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe High Performance Class 50 Solid State Drive with Interposer."   However, I looked up Interposer and it appears to be a SATA adapter. So, does this mean the 2nd drive will be running on the SATA bus?  If so, this high performance PCIe SSD will not be able to live up to it's full potential due to the SATA bottleneck, right?   I would be better off just getting a cheaper SATA drive, no?

Hinge Problem - research

I have a Dell 5200 Inspirion - bought it July 2015 (my third Dell laptop). About four months ago, the plastic mounts in the base (not the display lid) snapped due to pressure from the hinge. Never dropped. Never bumped. A familiar story, it seems.

I really don't have time to mess around and fix this kind of thing - saw various YouTube vids that explain how to do the job - and threw up my hands.

I looked around at other laptops - Toshiba, HP, Lenovo, Acer - they ALL have hinge problems. Apparently, in the rush to make laptops as thin and light as possible, they skimped on the engineering. Looking at the inside of the case, I'm surprised that these machines don't have more problems.

Want a laptop without a hinge problem? Buy a Mac. 

Looks like I'm going to have to buckle down and take this box apart. I'm using gorilla glue. 


Dell XPS 15 9550 not booting

When I turn my XPS on the backlit keyboard and all lights turn on. The display will either flash, basically being black entire time but working. However I cannot boot into BIOS or an operating system. I am unsure of what to do, I was looking at BIOS recovery methods however they are not very clear. Any recommendations?

I purchased a laptop (Dell Latitude) 2 years back and still it is under warranty. It got problem 5 times from septmber. Vendor was SS computers in India.

Problems came fromSeptember (2016) onwards. Sometime it got screen proble, some time it got charging problem, some time it is not starting. The latest one is battery not charging, suddenly that happened. I do not know if the battery can go off suddenly. Your people says battery damaged, I have no idea, I ordered battery. The keyboard and touchpad keys also not working, I do not have any clue if anyone will make these OK.

 
Almost 1 month is over Dell is saying parts are not there! Why are you selling the product in Indian? Did you sell defective product in India?.
 
When I approached to Dell their customer care is raising invoice or asking unnecessary questions etc. they are blaming me for the computer failure!

Is there anybody to listen from Dell?

I am highly dissatisfied with Dell.

 

I hope Dell USA will push Indian customer care.

XPS 15 9550 won't boot

Hello, my xps 15 will boot, it does not even boot into BIOS. It turns on however, and the display will flash on and off, with everything else working. I've tried doing a BIOS recovery with USB method and hold ctrl+esc down, however it doesn't do anything different than it does turning it on normally.

I used Dell Recovery to reset my Inspiron 15 . After the reset, I used dell direct access to download and install the appropriate drivers, but the Dell Wireless 1704 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver will not install. I have no wireless access, I can only get online via Ethernet cable. How do I restore wifi access?

In upgrading the memory on my XPS 9550. I lost some screws to the bottom of the case. They take a T5 Torx screwdriver.

I want the two monitors to work together without making anyporblems. right now One is connected through a display port and the second one is connected through HDMI, and because of that the display

Hello, I have dell xs 13 9360 running debian. Yesterday I have put it in hibernation mode, which was probably unsuccessful. powerbutton is still lighting, as well as keyboard when touched, but I cant restart it or boot up or whatever. Display is dark. Is there some way to unbrick it?


Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 : Problem 7 beeps and not start at all

Hi All,

I am very much frustrating that I have purchased the Dell laptop 15R N5110 three years back. Now the issue is that when we try to start the laptop it start starts beeping of 7 Beeps and then nothing happens after that. The warranty over the laptop has already been expired  and contact to the local laptop repair engineer they told that we need to replace the Motherboard.

Also, In the market there is not the new motherboard available and they provide us the refurbished motherboard which is not trustable to spend the amount of 12000 for this motherboard. Please suggest dell community. What should we need to do.

Error message - Power surge on the USB port

I am getting Power surge on the USB port message.

It says,

Recommendation

Disconnect the device and click reset. If you click "close" the port will not work until you unplug it and restart your PC.

I do not have any device connected to USB so I cannot do resolve this problem. My laptop is only 2 months old.... It is Inspiron 13, 7000 series.

Please help me.....

XPS 13 9333 keeps throwing out my internet connection

My XPS 13 9333 laptop keeps throwing out my internet connection.  I will be working on my laptop at home for a few hours with no internet connection issues, then I will lose internet connection (Wifi signal still strong, 'cannot find server' error message) and all my other devices (iPad, phone etc) also lose their connection.  I have to physically go and unplug the cable from my internet box and reboot my router to get the connection back.  As the day progresses, I seem to have to do this more and more frequently.  This only happens when I am using my XPS.  I have no problem with my internet connection when my XPS is turned off and I am using other devices.  

I recently paid to get my laptop rebuilt with Windows 10 (it had originally had Windows 8 + updates) because I was advised this might solve the problem.  It has not.

Intel Management Engine Firmware is corrupted

Hello all,

I have DELL Inspiron 15R 5520 with freshly installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1 but some annoying issues began to occur after cold booting my laptop :

1- 15 seconds delay between the power up lights turn on and the DELL BIOS logo.

2- A yellow mark appears next to Intel Management Engine Interface Driver with Error Code 10 ( this device could not start ), but this problem disappears when i restart my laptop and comes back after a cold boot.

I tried many things to solve this problem but none of them worked for me :

1- I tried a clean install of Windows and installing all drivers in correct order > didn't work.

2- I tried upgrading to latest BIOS and resetting CMOS Battery > same problem.

3- I tried uninstalling IMEI driver and reinstalling it again after a restart > nothing works.

A friend of mine told me that there may be a problem with Intel Management Firmware and this could probably cause that slow BIOS startup and the problem of IMEI driver in device manager.

So, can anyone suggest an effective way to fix that Intel Management Engine firmware corruption ?

And if its not the firmware...what could cause that BIOS delay ? Could the MB be faulty or something ?

I'm waiting for your replies and thanks in advance.

XPS 15 NVIDIA 1050 G-Sync on External Monitor

Hello,

Can the XPS 15 9560 with NVIDIA GTX1050 run, or be configured to run, an external g-sync monitor in G-sync mode thru the thunderbolt 3 to a Display Port connection ?

A previous question indicated that the pre-2017 XPS-15 9550 could not.  I understand currently HDMI does not support g-sync.  Also, the "Display" menu option that includes the  "Set up G-SYNC"  in the NVIDIA control panel on my XPS15 9560 is not visibly available, along with other options under that category, as is shown in the NVIDIA control panel for my desktop GTX970 unit.
