Inspiron 15 5547 Fan Issue

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series laptop, model number 5547. A couple of days ago I noticed that the fan is not spinning by looking at the back of the laptop. So I opened up the case and cleaned the fan. There was a lot of dust stuck there which I cleaned it out and also used a blower to dish out the dust stuck within.

After putting everything back, the fan still isn't spinning. I read a lot of forums about this. Most suggest that the fan is gone and I should replace it. While in some forums I read that it can be a software (Windows) issue as well.

I did the Diagnostic test at bootup (F12), the test said everything is alright and passed. I installed SpeedFan and a few other tools. Most of them show the Fan Speed at 0 RPM.

What should I do? Should I replace the fan or is there any Windows related thing that I should be doing?

Thanks.

Dell Latitude E5420

Hello! Help me to understand.

A laptop DELL Latitude E5420. Motherboard 0H5TG2. RAM 1x2GB 1333MHz 1.5V

I would like to increase the RAM to 8GB. On the official website DELL I offered 2x4GB 1600MHz 1.35V

The question arises as to the compatibility of the new module to the motherboard. Does the motherboard such a memory? You can download somewhere on the motherboard manual?

I also wish to change the HDD to the SSD. SSD 512GB can I install? Do I understand that to do that I need to buy a SSD form factor 2.5"?

Thank you in advance...

Precision 7510 Touch Screen Laptop - Shouldn't operating system be on the SSD?

I just bought a refurbished Precision 7510 Touch Screen Laptop.  It was marketed as having a 256G SSD and a 500G SATA 7200rpm HD with an onsite warranty until November 2019.

The Disk Management does not indicate there is a difference in type between the two drives.

Further, the operating system is on the 500G Drive which I presume is a SATA Drive and is designated as the C: Drive.

I believe the operating system should be on the faster SSD drive. Further the SSD. is designated as the D: Drive

1) What is the fast way to confirm the 256G is the SSD and the 500G is the SATA drive?

2) Please tell me there is a quick, easy way to transfer the operating system to the 256G SSD & designate it the boot drive C:

3) And 3, designate the 500G SATA as the Non-Boot D: Drive.

I recently retuned a Precision 3500 because it failed on first boot up, ran hot, bogged down and ran slower that my 5yr old Dell Latitude E6500.

This unit is running slower than the Precision 3500 I returned & obviously I spent a lot more money to make sure these issues would not recur.

I really just want to have this system be a turnkey upgrade as I fully installed and then had to uninstall all of my programs and data from the system I returned.

Please advise.

Can you have both an SSD and a cached HDD on Inspiron 7720?

Hi,

I think I already know the answer for this but I'd like to confirm.

I was having some issues with my laptop (Inspiron 7720 aka 17R special edition with 3D) so I ended upgrading to a 250 GB SSD with Windows 10 installed on it and using the 1 TB HDD for storage.

I still have the 32 GB mSATA SSD that came with the laptop that was used for caching the HDD. I'm wondering if I can do something useful with it such as enabling intel rapid storage for the 1 TB HDD. If yes, how would I do that? The PC won't boot if I place the mSATA SSD and I tried playing around with the BIOS settings to get it to boot with no luck.

Thanks

Computer Stays Awake

My computer will restart when going into sleep mode and even after shutting down. I need this to stop because it is wasting my battery. I changed the sleep mode settings in power options and changed reboot properties in Task Scheduler for the computer not to restart automatically.

System crashes after adding 2nd SSD to Precision 5510

I have a Dell Precision 5510 that came preinstalled with a 1TB PCIe nvm hard drive.  I added a second SSD to the empty SATA drive bay.

All kinds of problems ensued.  Initially, I had two major issues: (1) All windows updates failed after I added the drive, and (2) the SSD drive would periodically disappear, always after large data transfers but if used for small data transfers it would not seem to have any issues.  Disabling the SATA drive in BOS did not fix the first issue (Windows Updates/Reset failing).

I tried every windows update repair trick I know, and even tried resetting the windows install and reinstalling from the Windows Media Update download, but all fixes failed with no error message.  Restting, and reinstalling even failed!

Eventually, I decided to to a bare metal Windows 10 installation.  This too failed!?  I found a Dell tech note online related to a desktop unit, which stated that there was an incompatibility between the NVMe driver and the SATA driver, and suggested that installation would be successful if I disabled the SATA drive temporarily for the install, and then re-enable it after install is complete.  This seems to have worked.

However, while the bare metal install worked to allow a reinstallation (only after deleting my factory installed Windows), and it seems to have fixed the windows update problem, I still have the problem with the drive disappearing (the SATA drive) when there are large data transfers (50-100GB seems to be the magic number).  In addition, there is now a new problem - when the SATA drive disappears, the system crashes with a BOD (error messages are not consistent, I have seem a "memory" issue as well as "unknown" exception).

It seems like there is some incompatibility, but not sure where to look to fix this.  Ideas?

Dell xps 15 bought but not being able to use

I bought del xps a few month ago.

So far Ivery only used it for a day.  The rest of the time was spent fixing issues and trying different things to get it to work.  =(

First the laptop came with a screen defect where it would flicker, making it unusable.

After trying different things with support a new screen and motherboard was replaced.

Now the screen filker is fixed I was able to use it.

But after only surfing the net for 30min the computer crashed with a blue screen.

Thinking it might be once off I restarted and continued only to get it again and again after 15min~1hr. Even with just chrome wen browser running and surfing the news.

Contacted support again and had to run a series of diagnosis on the computer and also reset to factory settings.  But it didn't fix the constant blue screens that just crash the computer. So in the end contacted support and they got the hard drive replaced.

My laptop was shipped with out a CDT since it doesn't have a CDT drive and there was no usbs. So had to request it.

Request sent but the office said they don't have it in stock. Not sure when they will have in stock and will contact me as soon as they have it.

So here I am with a empty laptop which doesn't have an operating system and ofcourse not use able. Even after I get the operating system install, I'm not sure if the blue screen will be fixed.

I've had enough of all the time wasted trying to get a product I just bought to work properly. And still not being able to use it.

How do i go about returning the product and just get a refund please?

M4500 Processor Temps, are they normal?

I have a Precision M4500 that I installed a 940XM in and it seems to be running a bit hot. I'm getting peak temps in the 95C range. Should I be worried about this long term or is it ok for this CPU to peak that high? I also notice that the fan seems to run continuously if I am doing work on the laptop. I've read online that this laptop tends to be hot so I'm thinking this is normal but I still don't want the laptop to fail anytime soon. Anyone have any thoughts/ideas on the subject? I'm thinking of re-seating the CPU heatsink or possibly re-mapping the fan speeds to be more aggressive. If anyone knows if it's ok for this CPU to get that hot please post! Thanks.

MST Display and Power at boot cause BIOS Alarm

$

Hi.

I have two Dell XPS 9343. I also have two Dell MST Monitors, and for my other laptop, an MST Splitter hooked up to two monitors. Both BIOSes are running the latest BIOS firmware.

In both setups, if I turn my computer off and perform a cold boot with both the Power Supply and the MST displays plugged in, the machine doesn't boot, but instead sounds some sort of BIOS alarm (loud buzzing sound, short pause, loud buzzing sound, short pause) until I turn it off again.

In the case of this alarm sounding, I also noticed that the battery light flashes orange and white very rapidly.

In the case that this happens, turning off and turning on again after removing the power or the Displayport cable connected to the MST devices causes the laptop to boot correctly. I then plug the removed cable back in after it has passed the DELL screen.

What is it? How can I fix it?

Adapter polarity support for DELL Inspiron 7559

$

I have a Dell Inspiron 7559 and m looking for a replacement adapter from Dell.It needs a 130W adapter.

Dell sent me an adapter of part number VJCH5. This adapter meets all the needs of compatibility except for its

POLARITY. It has a positive polarity!

The adapter which originally came with the laptop had negative polarity, and was of part number WRHKW.

Now my question is should I plug this adapter of reverse polarity to my laptop? Will it cause any damage?

Because as far as my understanding goes and from what I've read on the internet using a reverse polarity charger could ruin the battery circuit.

If you could list out adapters which are compatible with my Dell 7559 that'd be of additional help!

My dell inspiron 5548 (a small variation of 5547) has the right side opened up, The hinge has been exposed because the plastic is open. Surely 50 people posting on this forum and on all online forums is not a coincidence. A defective product has been sold to us by Dell/ I have registered a complaint at bbb.org, an official lawsuit may have to follow since this is a serious case of a recall needed.

Refer to this post for other user complaints as well.

Alienware 13 R2 & Dell Dock (WD15)

Hi,

I'd like to use Dell Dock (WD15) with my new Dell Alienware 13 R2 via Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C).
It is possible, isn't it?

If so, could the laptop be charged via this docking station?

What is the difference between 'WD15 with 130W Adapter' (Dell part 450-AFGM) and 'WD15 with 180W Adapter' (Dell part 450-AEUO)?
Which one to choose for my purposes (external monitor via VGA, network via RJ-45, external USB keyboard, USB headphones, USB Flash Drive)?

Please, advice. Any answer would be appreciated.

Hi all,

My OS is Windows 10

i've loaded the Bios-Upgrade File "E5510A11.EXE" but it decides to exit with the message

"You must upgrade to A10 before flashing to this BIOS"

I think, I need to upgrade the BIOS to Version A10 first, but I can't find a file to do that...

Any ideas?

Latitude E6530 - Keyboard & Touchpad issues

$

Hi,

I'm having many issues with my E6530.  It seems to have a mind of its own.  Sometimes, the keyboard stops working and then other times it starts typing random letters.  The cursor will also click around randomly and windows will open. There's not rhyme or reason.  I've updated the BIOS and drivers, but the issues still occur and it seems to be more frequent now.  I scanned the laptop for viruses and malware and it came out clean.  I'm not sure if reinstalling Windows will fix these issues or if it's hardware based.  Could the motherboard need replacing?  Any help is appreciated.  Thank you.

DELLXPS 9343 does not see bootable usb sticks

So here's my problem:

I own two DELL XPS 13 9343 computers

First one ("the broken one", "the older one") was bought around 04/2015

Second one ("the working one", "the newer one") was bought around 07/2017

Those two laptops are not equal, I mean they are 9343 model but older one has 2.4 GHz CPU and newer one 2.6 GHz.

THE PROBLEM:

Both computers have latest A11 BIOS installed. However, older one does not see at all bootable USB sitcks so, it's impossible for me to reinstall operating system. Also I see few differences comparing to the new one, like TPP management is available under UEFI settings in the newer one and there is no such a thing in older one.

I don't understand why those two computers even though should be equal are not equal.

NOTE: All my USB sticks with Ubuntu or WIndows 10 are correctly setup. THey are working in all my computers including newer version of Dell XPS.

How to get this fixed?

If I leave my computer and it goes into hibernate or sleep mode, and then when I want to shut down my computer, the screen goes blank for about 5 minutes and then restarts.

I have no idea how to fix this.
