I am new at this, did one posting but lost it some how. I did clean re-install of windows 8 from a cd that Dell sent me when they first fixed my new computer. The reinstall programed on the compute was no good, so sent it back, they fixed it, but sent me an install only for dell cd for windows 8. Did the install, went to wireless in setup, it showed me the two options for wifi and airplane mode. When I clicked on airplane mode both option disappeared. Unable to find a way to get wifi. They also sent me a dell drives disk, installed the wifi adapter they had, but when I go to device manager there is none. I have three objects with an exclamination point by them.. They are Net Work Controller, PCT Simple Commuications Controller and VSB2.0 CRW. I can't seem to find the model number of my Inspiron but the install CD was for 3521/5521 and or 3721/5721.Right now I have no connection to the internet, unless I try an Ethernet connection. Why would I have this problem using a Dell Install CD. Can you help me get my wifi back so I can add my programs etc ? Let me know how to replay to your answer also as I am new at this.

I bought an XPS 13 9365 just two weeks ago, and had to reinstall windows 10 because of several touchpad issues (pointer lag, two finger scroll and general gestures problems) just after two days of usage. After reinstalling Win10, touchpad problems persist to a point that a mouse is a better option to work with the PC.

Reading online, there seems to be a general problem with Win10 and touchpads from long ago. Tried all types of remedy, adjusted all options under settings> mouse> touchpad and found no real solution. Don't know to really go the synaptics driver replacement route or wait until Dell comes with some advice or driver updates.

On the other hand, from time to time (+10 times now on last 20 days) a loud beep-cracking sound comes out of the speaker no more than a second long. First a beep and then a cracking sound. Very strange because no resource hungry apps were being used, nor music app.

I just moved from apple, hoping that this dell 2-in-1 was the way to go, but to be honest, I am very disappointed. This is an overall very good PC, but I wonder how they managed to have a very good and responsive touchscreen and a lousy touchpad. Having in mind that this is a premium laptop, this kind of problems are not supposed to happen.

I welcome anybody having these problems or found some type of solution to share them with the community.

I tried googling, but couldn't find anything on this topic. I found out that there is a stylus for the Inspiron 7568, but nothing on the 7569.

I need one that works with Photoshop, not the rubber tip one

This is more of a feedback to the Dell engineering team, but also wanted to hear from other XPS 13 9365 owners out there.

I have a hard time opening the lid on this laptop. Unlike MacBooks, there is no indentation or lip to get a grip on. I have resorted to standing the laptop on its rear edge and then using both hands to separate the display from the keyboard.

Has someone found a better way? I am tempted to add a plastic tab to the hand rest to make opening the laptop easier.

SSD Upgrade Question

I have a two week new XPS13 (9360). Planning on upgrading the stock SSD, (128GB SanDisk), with a Samsung 960 Pro 512GB NVMe M.2

Never having done this before I want to be sure it is as straightforward as it seems. With this in mind, some questions:

1) this SSD is compatible with this laptop, yes?
2) can this model fit more than one hard drive internally?
3) assuming the answer to 1 is "Yes", is it simply a matter of removing the old drive and installing the new one, then booting off the thumb drive and installing Windows 10 and the requisite Dell drivers needed for my specific laptop? Or, do I need to do anything with the new drive, such as install a specific driver, format the new drive before using, etc?
4) I'm reading about over-provisioning for SSDs, and finding it thoroughly confusing. Is this something I need to be concerned with?

How can I repair my touch screen it starts to act up at times by constantly opening things as if a ghost is touching my screen all over the place quickly and the only way out is to push the on/off switch. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

First of all, the casing has some kind of rubber coating all over it. It feels really nice and it looks super cool, so I'm worried rubbing alcohol or something might ruin the texture/aesthetic of it. What can I safely wipe the laptop down with to remove fingerprints without fear of deteriorating the material?

Also, I seem to have a couple of crumbs in the top-facing speaker. I don't know how they got there, and I don't know how to get them out.

Hello all, my name is Raven and i own an XPS 15 L502x laptop which i've had for about 6 yrs. I hadn't had any problem out of it until 2016. After deleting a torrented game my laptop crashed and while it starts up 85% regularly, it often freezes 20 mins into operation when i'm trying to open a program, download something, etc. It freezes and then goes to a blue screen. I've ran the built in diagnostics test which says my memory is fine though on occasion i am met with "no hard drive detected".

I reached out to a local computer shop that said they think it is the hard drive and that i need to replace it but after talking with a geek squad computer technician at best buy i think it might be OS related. He said that given his knowledge and from what i explained that he thinks it's something with my operating system and i might need a reinstall.

While i hope that it is something software related, I've already did a reinstall but it was using the factory image inside my computer not a fresh install from the disc.

I've attached a photo of the blue screen error that i get frequently and would greatly appreciate any feedback, comments and/or questions any of you all have regarding this frustrating issue,

Hello all.

I have an Inspiron 5555 with Windows 8.1 that I recently purchased (used) a few weeks ago. I immediately ran into issues when trying to install Visual Studio (downloaded from the Microsoft website). I tried for two weeks to install it, but it kept hanging on trying to update KB2999226. I tried various things that were suggested in trying to get the update, but it failed. (downloaded the KB directly as a stand-alone for example). So last week I decided to factory reset the computer and start with a clean slate. The reset takes FOREVER, so I end up leaving it to do it's thing, only to come back to my desktop intact.

I've installed the Dell Backup and Recovery, created the recovery disks (10 in all).

I went to the side window on the right, went into Settings>Change PC Settings>Update and recovery>Recovery>ERASE EVERYTHING. That also did not work.

I do not have Windows cds since I purchased it used, but in the past I've purchased a laptop and it did not come with any windows cd.

I am at a loss as to what to do. I'm not a newbie at this, altho I haven not used a windows laptop in several years. I dont ever remember resetting a computer being this difficult. I've lost alot of knowledge in a few years time apparently.

Is there anything anyone can suggest?

I have been experiencing issues with my laptop holding a charge. I tried buying a new battery and it helped in regards to speed but my laptop still does not recongnize my charger. In fact, I tried downloading the BIOS update as suggested and it says it cannot be downloaded until a charger is plugged in, which it was. I'm not sure what else to do to fix this issue.

I have a new Dell Laptop Inspiron 15 5000 that I got for Christmas. It works fine as long as it's on ac power, but the battery does not charge. I can't use it unless it's plugged in.

Latitude E5470 cannot recover from suspend on Ubuntu 16.10 if power cable removed

I recently got a Latitude E5470 and installed Ubuntu 16.10. If I suspend the computer and then remove the power cable at any point while the computer is suspend (even if I plug it back in before starting up), the system reboots when I start up.

I haven't really customized the system in any way. My configuration has:

Intel i5-6440HQ CPU
Intel Graphics 530
1920x1020 non-touch display
500GB Hybrid hard drive
Intel 8260 wifi card
Camera
16 GB (2x8GB) RAM

(I submitted a Launchpad bug report here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1661741 but I thought it made sense to ask here.)

Have other people experienced this problem or have any ideas about how to address. I tried the Ubuntu power diagnostic steps at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend but I, at least, could find anything notable there.

i am using dell xps l502x laptop . My battery was not charging so i got new battery and adaptor directly from dell . I am still facing the same issue . I was suggested to update my bios so I did and the update hardly ran 10 sec and it started rebooting but it is stuck there with blank screen. Is it safe to force shut down the laptop and reboot or should I wait for some time ?

Can you help me finding the the HW spec of the Inspiron 3537 and supported memory modules in particular? It seems that there is Lo-voltage module (this one) is installed by default and notebook refuses to work with 1.5v DDR3. I want the HW spec to tell me if it is ever possible or not.

Hi,

I've had a Studio 1749 since 2010 and I still love it, but the original battery now no longer holds its charge. Dell don't seem to sell suitable batteries any more for this model, so I bought on on eBay, new and supposedly genuine. But before I insert it, how can I check? I've compared photos online and it looks ok, but would like to be more sure. I'm aware that the battery will have been produced years ago, as Dell probably stopped making them a while ago.

Hi All,

I tried installing Windows 10 on my Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop which is now running on Windows 7. Unfortunately, it does not install.

When i contacted microsoft support, they told me that the drivers in system are causing the issue and you may not be able to upgrade it to windows 10.

Has anyone tried upgrading windows7 to windows 10 ? If so, can you please tell me which all drivers you had to install explicitly and where do i get the drivers from ?
