XPS 13 9360 SSD type?

$

Hi all, I just bought a Dell XPS 13 9360 with 128 GB and plan to substitue the stock SSD with a larger one (500GB). I thought it would support M.2 NVMe SSD (it's already 2017!), but to my suprise the stock SSD is a Sandisk X400 M.2 SATA.

As far as I know, NVMe and SATA use different connectors, so can I plug the NVMe SSD into my XPS 13 and get it recognized by the motherboard?

I have no previous experience of M.2 SSD. Sorry if the question looks silly.

AC power drops out when GPU in use

Hi there. I've got an Alienware 15 R2 that has had multiple warranty calls in the past 6 months. Late last year I had to mail it in for repair as the AC adapter seems to stop working intermittently (for a few seconds) whenever the graphics card is in use for games. It flickers back and forth and slowly drains the battery and changes between battery and main power profiles.

I mailed in my laptop (was 2 weeks out of warranty period) and had it "repaired". Now the same issue has returned after only 3 weeks use. Support team believed it was just a faulty AC adapter, but I've tried it with an alternate one before I first sent it in. It doesn't seem to make any difference.

Has anyone seen something like this before? Any hope in fixing it? Or should I try and get a refund or replacement... This would be the 6th fault since I bought the device.

Latitude 5414 (rugged 14)

I believe I saw on a specs page for the 5414 that it supports two drives. The manual states it supports m.2 sata and nvme. My problem is that the externally accessible hd has only the m.2 sata slot and internally I cannot locate an M keyed slot for the nvme drive.  How do I or what do I need to install the nvme drive most importantly, and can I still have the M.2 sata drive as well?

Same issues with the Dell TB16 as with the TB15???

Same issues with the Dell TB16 as with the TB15???

The TB16 is not the fix I was expecting after all the issues with my2016 TB15. Last year which I managed to get a full refund for from Dell. My new TB16 arrived last Thursday, and initially when I plugged it into my XPS15 and everything worked fine (for a little while). Now I cannot get my HDMI and DP screens to work at the same time, it's one or the other, the USB ports are intermittent and its hit and miss whether the TB16 charges my laptop, if I touch the TB16 or lightly brush the Thunderbolt lead, I lose Ethernet, charging or the one screen I've managed to coax into working.

Dell tech support guy logged onto my XPS15 this morning and saw first hand the issues, and they have now agreed to send out a replacement TB16 which should arrive by the end of the week, but to be honest I don't have any faith that the next one is going to be any better than the pile of SH 1 T currently connected to my laptop

I have told Dell technical support that I'll be looking for a refund of the TB16 and my XPS15 if they can't resolve the docking station issues.

My faith in Dell products is rapidly diminishing, and I would strongly advise people to think twice before parting with many $$$ for products that in my view really aren't worth the money, aggregation and frustration.

Sudden black screen on Dell Inspiron 7559

Bought this laptop for Christmas. I have been having this problem since its purchase. The screen randomly turns black and becomes unresponsive. The power button remains on and so does the display's backlighting. The only way to solve this issue is to restart the laptop which is very frustrating when I have unsaved work. This happens multiple times a day. I need this laptop for a project I'm working on, I can't afford to go a week without it, so I can't return it. I've also already upgraded the RAM. When it works this laptop is great though.

Alienware 15 R3 SSD dead in 20 days

Hi!

I get recently (25 of December) brand new Alienware 15 R3 from Amazon, and started using it 29 of December. I spend days, setting up all apps I needed for work. Can you imagine my astonishment, when in less than a month, SSD drive died. Internal testing software says:

Service tag: 7VX4BG2

Error code: 2000-0142

Validation: 104273

Hard Drive 5 - S/N 96MS10E0T18T, Short self test unsuccessful.

If scan QR code, it redirects me to some page which is constantly reloading.

I managed to install system on second HDD, but I'm highly disapointed, that's definitely not the quality, you expecting to get spending 2000 usd on product.

Latitude e5570 slow BIOS boot

Dear all! I have a new Dell Latitude e5570, 8 gigs of ram, and a Hynix Pc300 512GB NVME M.2 Sata drive. Did a clean install of windows 10 pro. Updated drivers, and BIOS. No other programs. No attached perirherials. Computer is working perfectly, but the boot time is not on the snappy side. It takes about 30 seconds to get to Windows login screen from the moment i click the power button.

Measured the drive after Windows booting, ant it gives 1800/800 read/write speed so it is 3X the speed of a regular SSD

After clicking the power button the screen remains black for about 8-9 seconds, then the DELL logo shows up. After which is starts loading windows with those rotating circles.

I also have a 3 year old Hasswell architecture HP notebook, with a not too fast regular Kingston v300 SSD. This config boots until complete desktop in 9 seconds.

What could be causing the long wait before showing the desktop on this dell?

Hello,

I would like the correct procedure to replace a hard drive in a mirrored array in a Dell R200 Server.

Our current drive is creating an amber warning, of predictive drive failure.

I have an identical hard drive to replace the failing drive, but need to know the process.

Current drive with predictive failure is Drive0,

SAS Controller = 6/IR

Firmware Version = 00:25:47:00:06:22:03:00

Driver Version 1.28.03.01

If you would need any additional information, let me know.

Thanks, for your time in this matter

Lousy Dell Warranty

So, my daughter bought a laptop about 8 months ago, and the place you plug it in on the side of the laptop broke inside, so she can no longer plug it in to charge the battery. This was from normal use. When we called Dell, we spoke to three different people who assured me that the warranty only covers defects in the hardware and workmanship (I believe this qualifies!). Basically, from what I understood Ryan #741647 and Carey #678278 to say was, if you don't use your laptop, the hardware and workmanship are covered, but if you use it, welp, no warranty for you, buggaroo. Too bad, so sad. Well, that's pretty shoddy, so I will be warning everyone I know not to buy Dell from now on. Facebook, here I come!

Inspiron 7568, depot repair failure

About a year ago I purchased this device and I worked as expected. It wasn't until recently that I notice problems with the touch screen not working. I contacted Dell via the phone and they took remote access to try and resolve the issue. After not having any luck they told me that I would have to send the device back to get repaired. Still being under the last 70 days of the warranty the repair would be covered under the warranty. When told that I would receive a box to ship the device back, I waited for the box. It wasn't until three weeks later that I contacted Dell due to a box not coming. I told them that a box was supposed to be shipped to my house, they had said over the phone that I would have to supply my own box. Then I received an email from an agent telling me not to contact customer service.I soon received a box and sent the device back. The device was received at their depot to fix the touch screen and a  week later I received the what seemed to be fixed device. Upon turning the device on the keyboard and power indicator came on but the screen didn't come on at all. The device was worse then before. In the box the device came back in had a piece of paper indicating what was fixed. Stated on the paper was "Your device was checked before shipment to make sure your device is working properly." It wasn't it was worse. I was on the phone with Dell that same day to figure out what was wrong. The agent walked me through a few procedures to try and fix the issue. After being on the phone for almost an hour with the agent, he told me that I would have to send the device back to them to be repaired again. Due to this being the second time they were going to expedite the device back to their depot to be fixed again. <solicitations removed>

370 minicard does not broadcast nor view any bluetooth devices

I have uninstalled, installed, ran the dfu files, turned on from bios, used the wireless switch, about everything I could find to do.  The bluetooth icon is in tray.  I can turn on/off.  The add bluetooth is always empty.  Settings show broadcast checked.  Bios has bluetooth checked.  Bluetooth devices are in Control Panel.  Device manager has Bluetooth Radios with Dell Wireless 370 minicard and MS enumerator.  Currently the broadcom driver 6.2.0.9000 from 6/15/2009.  Power management has Allow to turn off unchecked. Under Network devices Bluetooth devices RFCOMM Protocol TDI and PAN device.  All are without error.  E6500 laptop without 370 card added new card Broadcom M980G.  Vista business with service pack 2.  I have never gotten the card to broadcast or to show bluetooth devices.  I have installed from R226750/Win32 but have also used other packages from Widcomm with same result.  I would say the card is not turning on as the condition is the same on or off.  The card is recognized as not present if I remove, settings will fail to update.

Trackpad issue on Dell XPS 9550

There seems to be quite a few issues related to the 'precision' trackpad on many laptops Dell is producing. I just bought a 15in XPS Laptop which is a beautiful piece of machinery. But shortly after buying it my cursor would float all over the screen. Strangest behavior I've ever seen. When focus is on a program trackpad seems to work fine but when focus is on the desktop you literally have no control over the cursor using the trackpad.

I've contacted support who have done what they can but now want me to send the laptop in for repairs. As this is most certainly a software issue I cannot justify sending the laptop in losing it for a month to some hardware shop unless they can tell me definitely that this is hardware related.

I will be posting a video of this behavior on YouTube. I've done a full reinstall of Windows, updated BIOS, Chipsets, run extensive tests, and still the problem continues. At this point the best solution so far is to disable all gestures and features of the 'precision' trackpad and carry a mouse wherever you go! Such a shame that a fine piece of engineering like the XPS suffers from basic BIOS issues. I mean it's the trackpad on a very expensive laptop.

Latitude E6430 laptop Failed. Now An E6430 Doorstop.

Hello Reader,

I recently bought an E6430 laptop with Windows 10 Pro and had about 3 months of trouble free use out of it until yesterday morning when it completely failed. It is definitely the motherboard, because whenever I connect the (or any other) AC Adapter to the laptop, the green light on it instantly turns off and the computer is still stone dead - no lights, no sound of spinning fans or HDD. Totally useless now.

I tried the recommended 'reset' steps where I removed the battery, AC Adapter, (and later: the HDD and RAM as well) and held the power on button for at least 30 seconds, before reconnectig the battery and trying to turn it on again.. Still dead. Nothing I tried worked, so conceded that I'm just another one of possibly 100's of thousands of similar disappointed 'victims' of this (all too common) fault with many post 2006 laptops (not only Dell). This is the third such experience I've had myself with the same total failure, since 2012!

So, quick solution (so I thought earlier yesterday): I went on ebay and bought a new laptop which I thought was identical, however I've since discovered the (newer) one I just purchased on ebay for $400.00 is not exactly the same as the model that just self-converted into a doorstop.

That was an E6430 14 1 i5 3320M, 2.6GHz

The one I just bought to replace it with is an  E6430 Core i7-3520M 2.9GHz.

The plan is to simply remove the HDD from the doorstop (i5 3320M, 2.6 Hz) and place it into the new laptop I just bought.

I didn't know until it was too late, that the one I'd just bought is a newer and probably a lot different (in terms of MB device  drivers) than my original E64530 i5 3320M, 2.6GHz machine.

Therefore, my question that I really hope someone here can answer is:

Will my newly purchased E6430 Core i7-3520M 2.9GHz work with the HDD from my now failed and slightly older original laptop: E64530 i5 3320M, 2.6GHz?

I have performed the same HDD swap 'trick' in the past and 100% successfully with an older Latitude D610, when it lost its display.. When it died, (with just a bold white bar at the bottom where the Windows task bar used to reside), I just went on ebay and bought another D610 (for about $100.00), which was almost identical - the new one had Bluetooth, whereas the original with the failed display didn't. All I had to do after inserting my failed one's HDD into the $100.00 one was automatically install the Bluetooth driver and presto - I had my same laptop back again in an instant, but with Bluetooth as well. That was about 6 years ago and it lasted until I recently bought the new Doorstop. (And it still works now but its Windows XP).

I fear it may not be as simple as that with my current E6430 'dilemma'.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I.e. "No forget it, it won't work" or, "Yes that should still run ok, but you might need to run a driver update"....

Thanks for reading my (possibly too detailed) post.

XPS 13 9365 2 in 1 touchscreen problem

First one I bought at Best Buy would not power on at all. Exchanged it for a new one.

I almost immediately noticed that after coming out of sleep mode, there is an intermittent, though very frequent input delay. Touch the screen, or the touchpad, or even a Bluetooth mouse, and there is a second or two of delay before anything happens. Rebooting will make this issue completely go away until the next time it comes out of sleep mode.

I tried new drivers from both Dell.com and intel.com. When that didn't fix it, I reinstalled a clean copy of windows. Problem returned. I contacted Dell support and they suggested it might be a hardware issue and I should send it in for repair.

So I returned it to Best Buy for a third computer. This one is doing the exact same thing. I have looked all over the internet for a solution and can find none. Any one?
