Right side Hinge pulled free of screws and inserts on the keyboard side.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 5545. From the first day I lifted the screen of the laptop, there was a click from the right side where the hinge of the screen meets the base of the laptop. I just assumed this was something internally that kept the screen in the open position because there are so many other items click when you open them. However, over the past few weeks a gap started to appear that has become increasingly larger between what appears to be the bottom of the case and the top in that same place where the right hinge is.

C'mon Dell.  It is a design flaw and should be fixed as such.

Dell D3100 Dock BSOD Problem?

Been getting random & frequent BSOD (Critical Process Died). Called tech support, they uninstalled & reinstalled several drivers including the dock driver. They also installed this click 2 fix app. The problem remains. I've already notified them about it. Hope to hear back from them tomorrow.

One thing I noticed: I don't get any BSOD when not plugged into the dock. I've already ordered a replacement in case this one is defective. Is there anything I should be looking for?? Would have I been better off choosing the thunderbolt dock instead??

Any advice is certainly appreciated.

Refund

This is probably posted in the wrong forum but here goes..

I ordered an alienware 17 laptop and waited a few days for the order confirmation. My bank account was charged immediately however, no surprise there. Then I decided to call customer support, they told me that my order was declined because dell didn't have the parts for the laptop and they also said that my bank account was NOT charged. I told them that I can see the money has gone out. Then they offered me some other configuration and I declined and asked to cancel everything and that I want my money back. They said that if an order is declined you will be refunded within 48 hours.

It's been a lot longer than 48 hours and still no refund.

I have seen other forums (not on dell Community) saying that the refund process takes as long as 3 weeks?

If thats the case that is going to cause some me some difficulties as my main laptop is broken and I was hoping to get a new one within two weeks since I will be going abroad.

I have found another laptop on ebay but of course I cant pay for it since dell is holding my money.

P.S I don't understand why you can configure a laptop that dell doesn't even have.

Alienware 17 R3 - Ideal Battery Replacement

$

I have a Alienware 17 R3-3758 that I had bought 'bout 2 years ago. Until recently it's told me: "Your batter can no longer provide sufficient power to your system and needs to be replaced."

The SupportAssist program that comes w/Alienware stated that my batter is:

PABAS0241231 (COMPAL | Li-I - Lithum Ion)

I was hoping someone could link me to a site that is legit. I don't know if DELL themselves sell the batteries anymore. Also, is replacing a battery for my PC hard? I've only opened it once to reset my BIOS since it crashed. There is an update to the BIOS (1.3.10) however it won't let me update unless the battery is charged up to 10%; which is why I'm assuming I need to change my battery.

Thanks for you time for reading my problem!

How to turn OFF Backlit Keyboard on Inspiron 15-5559?

$

Hi all,

Just got an Inspiron 15-5559 Signature edition from the Microsoft store and I can't figure out how to turn off the keyboard backlight. I want to turn it off to save battery when it's not connected to AC.

I've tried pressing Fn+F10 as well as just F10 when FN is locked. I've installed Quickset and the backlight slider doesn't change the backlight levels at all. I've also went into BIOS and the backlight stays on even if I choose "Disabled".

Any ideas on how to turn it off? Thanks

Unable to turn off keyboard backlight on 15-5559

Hi All,

I recently got an Inspiron 15-5559 Signature edition from the Microsoft Store. I've been trying to turn off the backlight on the keyboard but none of the methods allowed me to do so.

I've tried pressing Fn+F10, as well as just F10 while the Fn key is locked.

I have also installed Quickset but that isn't working either. The slider in Windows Mobility Center moves but it doesn't change the backlight brightness at all.

Lastly, changing the keyboard illumination settings in BIOS doesn't change the backlit levels either.

Any ideas on how to get it to disable? Thanks

9550 XPS 15 backlit keyboard issue.

I've recently purchased a 9550 XPS 15 from the Dell outlet and I received it earlier today. I'm very happy with it, and it's come in perfect condition.

However, I can't seem to get the keyboards backlight to work.
It was definitely listed as coming with the backlit keyboard.

I've tried all sorts to try and get it to work. FN + F10 does not work.

I've tried looking in bios to see if it had been disabled in there. Which it hasn't, as far as I can tell.

I've been doing research online, I don't see any option in the mobility center for any additional Dell options.

I do have the icon etched in to the F10 key to change brightness on the backlight, which would lead me to believe it is the correct keyboard installed.

I've sent a support request off to Dell about it, just thought I'd leave a message in here to see if I get a quicker response.

Any suggestions? Cheers.

Dell 14-3452 with eMMC 32gb for C:drive. No Drive Installed

I have a Dell 14-3452 given to me for my 10 year old grandson to use with Win10. It has the embedded eMMC installed with 32gb for C: drive. I was able to update Win10 to 1511. Not enough storage to upgrade to Win10 1607.

I downloaded Win10 from Microsoft using the MCT to a USB stick with the intention of doing a clean install to the eMMC and then using a 64gb SD card for the Apps.

I screwed up and deleted the C: drive partitions, I should have extended them instead.  Win10 install said unable to install on drive.

Found a tip on Dell forum to use Shift +F10 at the WIN10 install screen to get to diskpart. Then, list disk>select disk 1>clean> create primary partition>active> format fs=fat32 quick>convert gpt

Since then Dell 41-3452 says no drive installed.  I’ve reloaded the default using F9 at the setup screen. I can’t remove this embedded C: drive to re-initialize. With the Win10 USB stick installed I select USB at F12 boot up, the PC goes straight to Dell ePSA pre boot assessment diagnostics.

I think I may have killed this PC.  Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

New RAM not working in Dell Inspiron 3558

I recently took my laptop apart to install a new chip of RAM into the extra slot. Everything seemed to have gone well except after I got my laptop pieced back together I tried to restart my laptop and it started making a very loud beeping sound repeatedly. My laptop went to an error message stating something along the lines of "No memory detected on previous boot" and gave me the option to restart, and upon doing so my laptop starts up without the beeping.

The problem is, my laptop still says it only has 4GB of RAM instead of 8GB and my laptop will repeatedly beep very loudly any time I start it up.

How do I get my laptop to register the new RAM I've added and stop beeping every time I start it up?

The model number on the new RAM I inserted is M471B5273DH0-CH9

Any help is much appreciated!

Adobe Premiere Pro performing horribly on Dell XPS 15 9550 (i7, 16 ram, 512 ssd)

I bought this laptop a year ago from the Microsoft Store and recently I've been experiencing some really bad performance issues on Premiere Pro. Anyone else? My workflow never goes smoothly as before. No matter how much I tweak the settings, reset and wipe the laptop, bring it to the Microsoft Store to try to replace the laptop (didn't work because the laptop needed physical damage for the warranty to apply), I couldn't fix this problem. Whenever I play back anything in Premiere, it's almost aways choppy. Even when just previewing a video clip! Just imagine how frustrating it is to edit on this thing now. It does this weird stutter where it continuously goes back to the last frame of the video making the playback really choppy (if that makes any sense). Also overall the performance has just been really bad recently.

(A7) Me FW Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed

I have an Inspiron 7559 that is failing to boot. It displays "(A7) Me FW Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed" just after showing the white Dell logo.

I think my daughter turned it off when an automatic BIOS upgrade was started. The system was reporting the BIOS was at 1.2.0 but it couldn't see any USB drives. I ran BIOS recovery which left me with version 1.1.3 and the ability to see USB drives - still not able to boot into Windows 10.

I downloaded the latest firmware (1.2.1) and created a new bootable USB drive to update my firmware. If I run the Inspiron_7559_1.2.1.EXE from a DOS prompt or from the BIOS Flash Update option after hitting F12 it fails with "Unable to start a Secure Flash session".

Running from DOS:

I get promoted to Start to Flash: Y

Decompress ROM completes.

Get related info.

Uploading the ROM into the BIOS completes.

Uploading the ME Capsule data into the BIOS completes.

Begin to update BIOS from version 1.1.3 to 1.2.1 fails with"Error: Unable to start a Secure Flash session."

I've tried various boot settings of UEFI/Secure, UEFI/NotSecure and Legacy. Also Dell DDDP and Rufus to make bootable DOS USB drives.

I've also tried using the recovery utility (hold esc + control when connecting in the AC power) with a USB and a BIOS_IMG.rcv - I get a black screen and 3 amber flashes followed by 4 while flashes on the LED. Without a USB I will get the recovery screen.

Diagnostics did not report any issues.

Would love to know what I need to do flash this laptop. This security stuff is really annoying.

Thanks!

Hi,

Does anyone have any ideas for laptop stands for an E7470 laptop with its docking stations, the only ones I can find are not wide enough to hold the dock as well.

We have users that want the laptop raised up to be the same eye level and height as the attached monitor.

Thanks
