(Alienware 14) dedicated graphics card died after plugging in HDMI cable

This is my first post, and I haven't really done the forum thing in awhile, but it's late here and I'm just reaching out to see if I get any good advice before I have to wake up and deal with Dell phone support tomorrow :/

I have one of the new Alienware 14's, the base model. We had a good relationship for awhile, then recently I started getting some BSODs. Called Dell support, they figure it's the graphics card drivers so I uninstall and go back to the previously released drivers... things are working okay again. Then today I plug in my HDMI cable to play something on my TV and both screens go black... unplugged HDMI cable and now my computer has no dedicated graphics card. Not in the bios or anywhere. If I go to Device Manager, it's not there (unless I click on "Show Hidden Devices", then it comes up, and if you open it it says "Code 45: not currently connected to the computer"). I've tried a lot of different things so far... and I uninstalled everything NVidia on my computer... but I can't reinstall drivers 'cause all the installers says I don't have an NVidia card. So I have no clue what to do but I'm getting pretty frustrated :/

Any advice is welcome, especially if you dealt with this or similar.

I loaned my Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop to my daughter so she could do a report for college. When I got it back and turned it on the screen is black and there was at first one beep, I waited 15 minutes to see if the computer would load and nothing happened so I turned it off by pressing the power button. I waited a couple minutes and turned it back on, now instead of one beep I am getting beep beep a short pause and then one more beep (all beeps are short.) This time I left the computer on almost an hour to see if anything would happen and again after the beeps nothing happened. What does this mean?

So i have an Xps 17 702x and wondering how many Hdd slots there are? Have 2 500Gb Hd's, but need a 2Tb now. Is there a 3rd slot? Or can 1 of those 2 be swapped easily? Couldn't find much through google, so instead of waisting my time thought i'ld ask here... :)

i have recently expierienced alot of problems with my dell xps 17,recently a tech had to come out and do an on site repair to replace my hard drive,there were alot of programs missing and one in paticular that i realy need and use often was microsoft office starter that was preloaded at time of purchase,there is no download anywhere for the office starter program through microsoft as it is a preloaded program

DELL N5110 - 8 pitidos al arrancar

Hola,

Alguien podría ayudarme, desde la semana pasada mi Laptop N5110 cuando inicia me envia 8 pitidos y la pantalla se queda en blanco. Ya he conectado un monitor y me funciona y a la vez hice el test de video y todo bien.


Me pueden ayudar que más puedo probar para poder resolver el problema.

Recently upgraded my pc from Japanese Windows 7 to US Windows 8.1. When I did this my keyboard's 10-key (right-side numeric key pad) stopped working. Does anyone know where I can download the driver for my laptop so that I can get this fixed? Have tried to use the Dell online help but it was of NO HELP since I bought it in Japan and Dell only helps US customers.

N4050 - DELL OS Back Up Utility

Hi. I am trying to back up Windows 7 OS from my Laptop Inspiron N4050 but can't get it done.  Apparently, I deleted the original Dell Utility, which came with the machine.  I did not receive any CDs with the machine.

Windows' built-in BackUp/Recovery Utility has been disabled by OEM.

I have already downloaded the Dell - Backup - Recovery Management file - ver A02.  However it is not compatible with N4050.

I'm stuck.  DO I use third-party software? Or does DELL have a solution?

nVidia Geforce GT 650M NOT DETECTED on Inspiron 17R SE 7720 after BIOS A11 Update

Hi everyone,

A week ago I did some updating on my Inspiron 17R SE 7720 including Bios update to the A11 version. Unfortunately after this update I realized that the nVidia Geforce GT 650M graphics card was gone from my system.

I read other posts and people that have come across this issue suggested that re-installing the bios would fix the problem, however in my case it did not.

Also I have installed the newly released BIOS A12 and A13 versions but non of these have fixed this issue.

Also re-installing windows does not either fix this as suggested by others in other posts.

I have also run the computer diagnostics from the bios and the card does not show up there either, is like if the nVidia Geforce GT 650M graphics card was not installed on the system.

Lastly I have run a version of Ubuntu on my Inspiron 17R SE 7720 and run a system check and neither the card is detected, just the Intel HD Graphics 4000 is detected on windows or linux.

Please someone from dell help us fix this issue, as it is definitely a BIOS PROBLEM.

If you are one of the unlucky ones like me that saw disappeared the nVidia Geforce GT 650M graphics card from your system, please share your experience with me.

After 7 exact months of supplition since I started this discussion Dell has finally done it.

Bios A16 addresses and fixed this isue.

How do I boot from cd?

when I enter the Bios\Boot I see this screen:

Hi, I've just purchased the XPS L502x laptop with the GT540M graphics card. I was just wondering if this card is upgradable or is it built into the motherboard. It would be nice to be able to fit a GTX560m in the future if possible.

Latitude E6530 won't wake up

Hi,

I got a Latitude E6530 with an E-Port II a few weeks ago. In general it's great but I have had one annoying problem a few times:

The laptop is docked with the lid closed, and two external monitors, and an external USB keyboard and mouse connected. It's running Windows 7 Ultimate.

The laptop goes into standby after a few minutes of inactivity.

When I press the power button on the dock to resume from standby, the external monitors stay in standby mode and the mouse and keyboard don't power on (no num lock light or laser on the bottom of the mouse).

If I undock the laptop and open it, the screen stays off and it doesn't respond to keyboard or touchpad input, even after several minutes. However the power light is on and the hard disk light occasionally blinks. The only solution is to power off the laptop by holding the power button for a few seconds.


Note that this doesn't happen every time that the laptop is woken from standby, it's only happened 3-4 times in a month. The Windows logs don't show any errors either.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you solve it?

Inspiron Mini 10v system restore

I'm trying to restore to factory settings because I got a new Dell laptop.  I'm giving 10v to my son and want it wiped. I've done the F8 thing but I don't have the "System Repair" option. I read on a forum to try Alt+tab+F11 and it doesn't work. Can anybody help me with this issue please? I'm not real good at the technical stuff so if you have a solution I'll probably have to have it step by step. sorry

Hi,

I installed Windows 8.1 yesterday and after the installation I noticed that my camera wasn't working. The Skype and Camera apps don't recognize there's a camera. After seeing this I installed the Dell Webcam Centre, but it didn't recognize it as well. I tried uninstalling the drivers and installing them again. The drivers for the Quanta webcam apparently don't recognize Windows 8.1 (I got an error message saying that you must have Windows XP SP2 or above to install them) so I installed them in compatibility mode for Windows 7. Unfortunately that didn't work as well. And now in the Device Manager the integrated camera is missing when it was working before the installation. Any ideas on how to resolve the issue? Is it possible that it's a hardware issue, a loose cable in the camera docking station or it's some kind of incompatibility with Windows 8.1? Thanks for everything in advance.
