Hello all,

I have an XPS M1530 I purchased off eBay with the intend of restoring it as much as I can.

I have acquired everything I need and started to build it the other day. After powering it up for the first time I was greeted with the wonderful "power adapter type cannot be determined" error. The BIOS also cannot determine the adapter.

I'm using a genuine Dell PA-10 series adapter, so it's definitely a genuine Dell charger. I've also tried it with a PA-12 series adapter and it had the same problem.

I should point out that the PA-10 works fine on a Latitude E5500. So it's not the charger.

I'm also using a third-party... yes, third-party... battery. Not genuine Dell, the battery is unable to be determined and won't charge. I know that Dell laptops are very selective with what batteries it will work with. The BIOS for some reason says the battery is fully charged, even though it isn't.

Is the ID chip for detecting Dell chargers on that small removable board with the power jack on it? Or is it further along somewhere on the motherboard? If so... then that's a problem.

I have another M1530 on it's way to me, albeit with a failed GPU. I'm planning to use the battery from that XPS as well as the power board to see if those make a difference.

Until that happens, can anyone let me know if indeed the charger ID chip is located on the power board, so I know if replacing it could make a difference.

If it's a motherboard replacement, that would make all the effort I put into restoring it a waste, but oh well...

My computer is being evaluated at a "geek" facility.  Is it normal for the above machine to have hard drive failure>>>???? feeling disappointed.

I got the inspiron 7447 i7 and apparently it only comes with 1366 resolution. I would like to know if i could upgrade the screen to 1080p, since I know that in most countries it comes with full HD.

I just received an Inspiron 5000 5368 last Tuesday (Jan. 10, 2017) and everything works except the hard drive activity light doesn't work. When the power adapter is plugged in to the computer, the light does work, but any hard drive activity does not show (It should blink with activity). When the power adapter is unplugged, the activity light does not work at all. I've applied all the firmware updates at the Dell support site for my machine but no joy.

I did find in these forums a key-combination (Fn + H) that does activate the hard disk activity light, but it only works when invoked at the Windows 10 desktop and only for that session. If I restart the computer, the hard disk activity light no longer works, but once I'm at the Windows desktop, I can enter Fn+H and it works again. It seems to be someone forgot to put the command for hard drive activity light in the boot loader code. It's a hassle to do the key combination all the time.

Is there any way I can get this fixed remotely? Or can I get a new machine with this fixed?

I called Dell tech support but the line went dead after a few minutes speaking with a tech support person.

I just got a new XPS15, and no matter what USB keyboard or mouse I use, there is lag from both units, and the keyboard will double-type letters or sequences of letters. I've tried installing device specific drivers and managers, but that hasn't changed anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 15inch 7520 with A11 version of BIOS, latest from dell.com. I decided to reinstall Windows 10 from USB stick which is formatted to FAT32 and is bootable. The issue is that I am unable to choose USB boot from the menu when pressing F12. I tried under both UEFI secure:on and Legacy boots, but it does not want to boot windows at all. When the usb stivk is plugged in it stalls at the dell logo. When it is not it nornally runs my already installed windows 10. Under UEFI boot settings there is only 1 option - the windows itself. Under legacy boot options theres only HDD and Network (when switched to legacy boot option). I have both tried Microsoft media creation tool and Rufus to create the flash bootable. It is the same with both - pc stuck at logo screen unable to boot the installation. Please help.

Hi I have dell m4600,  it happens that I have some problem with bluetooh drivers and audio at same time. 
I downloaded and upgraded all drivers I could( Win 7 64 bit), so in that case drivers from Boardcomm and Dell 350 device however I am unable to connect with any audio bluetooth device ( I tried speaker and headset. )  And there are two problems.

One in device manager I have listed unknown bluetooth device ( except Dell 350 and Boadrcomm device). Second problem is when I am trying to connect  with speakers or headset, computer pairs with them but it doesn't play any music.  In playback devices my stuff is listed as disconnected. 

This unknown Bluetooth periferial device is listed under following HArdware ID

fter this I press F2 and change the date and time then save it. I can access windows with no problem. After I turn the laptop off again and turn it on after some time this turns up again and I have to change the time again from 12:01 8/20/2009 to the actual time. 

What do you think is the problem?

  A couple of weeks ago I downloaded the Dell Wireless 1830 Update that has a Release Date of December 22nd, 2016 (although the "View Details" indicates that it was released on January 16th, 2017). Assuming that this was an update, I tried to apply this to my XPS 15 9550 but the update failed. The generated log really did not tell me much but when I investigated what driver version I currently have, I realized that I already had the v12.0.1.750 driver installed with a driver date of 9/23/2015. It apparently was installed as part of the Anniversary Update last August. However looking at the Programs and Features list, the "WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software" entry shows the version of 12.0.1.730 which was the original installation date back in December 2015. I suspect the Anniversary Update changed the driver without updating the underlying software indicator. Below is the pertinent part of the log. I would appreciate if Dell could comment on this.

When I use yahoo mail if I check a box using the touch pad I can’t uncheck it and instead have to refresh the page. This is in Chrome and Firefox, the OS is Windows 10 anniversary.

Also if the cursor is left over a link it sometimes engages without me clicking it, this happens in different sites with both browsers.

So i bought a new laptop (dell inspirion 15 5558 i3 5005u, gt 920m, 4gb ram, upgrading from an old latitude) a few days ago and i started to notice 2 things.

1. The main (left) fan has only 3 speeds/stages: a) 0 RPM, b) 2200 RPM, c) 4700 rpm or sometimes 4600.

2. The fan goes to 4700 RPM when CPU/ GPU reaches a relative low temp ( 55 degrees celsius) and it is Very noisy. I really love this laptop, but the fan is very annoying. I dont know if it's just my laptop or not. We should be able to have the rpm along with the temperature, or add another speed to the fan around 3000 - 3500 rpm for a good cooling/ noise ratio. It starts abrupptly to rise from 2200 rpm to 4700, its very distracting, unnecesary, battery consuming, and stays there until you exit the app you're working in. I do not think it's normal having just 3 steps instead of a fluid rpm setting depending on the temperature. It's like trying to cool your tea by blowing in it, or if it's a bit hotter, throwing in some liquid nitrogen. You cool it down but it's unnecesary and messy at those temperatures.  

I wonder if there are any patches to fix this or overcome it somehow. It ruins the experience and it's a shame for such a good laptop, i really love it like each dell product i ever had. I know it is going to be a problem in the summer where it's gonna stay constantly over 60 degrees (the rpm blowing my ears off constantly) and i need to fix it now or return the product. We urgently need a bios update or something to fix it, or at least some answers. Please, do not ignore your customers.

With Win10, I have created a System Repair disk for my laptop and plan to also use the Win10 option to create a full system backup. 

Question: Will this be enough to fully re-image my laptop if that is a catastrophic HD failure?  

On a Win7 Dell laptop,  Dell also provided a System Backup/Recovery capability but I can not find that on my Win10 system?...has it been discontinued or do I now have to order it?

Any advice and guidance would be great.

I bought my dell xps 13 15DEC 2016 so the warranty is still exist of course. 

yesterday my adapter had broken. so i just want to know could i some how use my warranty option?

By the way i live in barcelona now. laptop was bought in US

Hello,

So I have exhausted all my options on trying to fix my laptop and here I am hoping for some insight into my problem and the solution, if any!

To recap, I purchased my 5447 laptop about a year and a half ago. Since then, it has been nothing but trouble and major headaches. First problem was the hinge breaking the assembly around it (mid frame and lower frame)....tried to get Dell to cover it, but they would not...great many thanks Dell....Soooo instead of letting them pull my pants down further I order the mid and bottom frame and installed them myself as I am quite comfortable with working on laptops. 

After this came the various issues with the OS and Windows 10...I was plagued with the boot loop and it rendered my laptop useless. I ended up doing a full restore from bootable ISO USB drive. Upon completion I was almost relieved.....

The problem which currently persists, is the turning on of my laptop by itself, and not being able to be put in sleep mode and wake up. First issue, when turned off, it will turn itself on, not fully....screen will be off, and all lights even off, only the fan is running. Secondly, when put into sleep mode, I am unable to turn it back on. I am required to press the power button multiple times and sometimes hold it down to hard reset it. After reading and troubleshooting I was directed that the issue could be the motherboard. So I did a CMOS reset by unplugging the CMOS battery from the motherboard and then plugging it back in after a while. This actually worked for a short period of time, however the problem recurred. 

Any help would be much appreciated as this laptop has been nothing but trouble since I got it and at this point I am tired by the lack of empathy given by Dell support and might throw her out the window !

Dell Inspiron M731R

When turning on the laptop it has white screen at boot-up. I hooked up an external monitor(hdmi) and when it reaches the window 8.1 splash screen then the external monitor kicks in and everything works fine(laptop lcd is still white with vert and horizontal lines (I can kind of see whats displayed). But when I tried in safe mode the external monitor doesn't display anything. I can barely make out what is displaying on the laptop but when I try to project on to the external monitor I get a message 'your PC can’t project to a second screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card. 

Could it be an inverter for the white screen and driver for not projecting in safe mode? Reinstall the display adapter?

I have the inspiron 7447 i7 model and it originally came with 1366x768 resolution screen.  Can i upgrade the display to full HD? Since i know its sold with 1080p in some countries.
