Hi, I recently had an issue with my precision 5510 motherboard (installed BIOS 1.16), dell replaced the motherboard but strangely the technician loaded BIOS version 1.02 and since then I have tried number of time to update the BIOS to latest version. The issue happens once the BIOS is updated, but at boot up SSD is not recognized.I have send so many emails to dell technicians but no result, if any one can suggest on this, I will really appreciate.

Dell Precision M4500 overheating when attached to 32" monitor running at native 2560x1440 resolution

I'm posting this more as an observation of things I discovered than as a question, but would welcome feedback from others experiencing a similar problem.

At the Black Friday sales I bought a very nice 32" Asus VA32A 2560x1440 WQHD monitor to use with my Dell Precision M4500 i7 laptop. I was replacing a smaller very old Dell monitor that had a considerably lower maximum resolution.

Almost immediately I started experiencing events daily where the screen would turn a nice shade of mauve in pixelated pattern and freeze, requiring a hard reboot. This had happened on very rare occasions before, but not often enough to investigate. Now it was a constant problem and everything I read online told me it was an overheating issue and not to ignore it as it could destroy the computer.

First recommendation was to clean the dust out of the fan area. Being an old computer there was a lot. I took out the fan/heat sinks cleaned the input and output screens as well as the fan itself meticulously and put it all back together. No benefit; still overheating.

I figured maybe I had accidentally removed come of the thermal grease so took it apart again and replaced the grease where it was previously. Same result - still overheating.

I then bought a cooling fan for under the laptop and made sure that the laptop's own monitor was turned off when the case was closed (I use an external wireless keyboard for this setup. It seemed to make a difference and SpeedFan and RealTemp appeared to reflect an improvement but the darn thing crashed again, though not so frequently.

Then I read online that the problem might not be with the size of the monitor but rather the resolution. So reluctantly I stepped down from its optimal resolution (the reason I bought it in the first place) and ran it at 1920x1080. It has not crashed since (touch wood).

Even if it does crash again, I now know that the problem is indeed a result of overheating and that it is attributable to an external monitor placing too much demand on the built-in Nvidia QuadroFX 1800M GPU. Since I cannot replace that, I either have to get used to using my monitor at less than optimal settings or sell the monitor and go back to a lower resolution one. Neither solution is particularly appealing.

Any comments/thoughts?

Inspiron 3050 Micro Desktop, new ssd and dell w10 row(DL) iso install issue.

Hi

I got a bigger m.2 ssd for my 3050 pc and instead of duplicating old ssd into new one I decided to reinstall windows from downloaded recovery iso image. No matter what I do I couldn't get pc to boot up. It would go through the process, but eventually wouldn't boot up. Tried it in legacy and UEFI mode. Original ssd size is 32gb with about 12gb free with windows installed. SO I assume the windows 10 from Dell is shrunken somehow.

I was finally able to install it from downloaded full version of windows 10 iso from microsoft by changing bios to ATA and legacy setting. Then after 1st boot change the registry entry to achi, boot into safe mode to reinstall achi driver. At least now I have it in achi mode.

Q1. What is the ROW mean in W10x64ROW_core_compact.iso recovery file that I can download from Dell?

Q2. What would be missing in compact version from Dell in comparison to MS downloaded iso file?

Q3. What am I doing wrong?

I would prefer to install dell original recovery image so I would have it in GPT UEFI. Just FYI ssd capacity is different.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Inspiron 3452 - can't install Windows 7 x64 on eMMC

Hello everyone!

I have Inspiron 14-3452, Service Tag: 3WZ2F82 with Internal EMMC "hynix hbg4e 599236FE (32.0 GB)" as BIOS states. There are three usb ports, no cd/dvd. There was Windows 10 x64 and I want to install Windows 7 x64, so I've done the following:

1) I've upgraded BIOS up to 4.0.13 (latest) using <<www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=5XHH2>>

2) BIOS - Boot - Fast boot=disabled, Secure Boot=disabled, Boot List Option=Legacy

3) Made 4gb bootable (not UEFI) usb stick with Windows 7 x64 SP1, booted it, it failed with the error "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing..."

4) I've integrated USB3.0 driver <<www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails using that manual <<tinyapps.org/.../201608210700_device_driver_is_missing.html>> into my installation package. That helps.

For now, I can boot from usb but the list with storage devices is empty, there's no my emmc drive. I believe that's because there're no such drivers in my windows 7 installation package and I need to add them on the usb stick and load at that point. There're also threads <<en.community.dell.com/.../19987483>>, <<en.community.dell.com/.../19679469>>, <<en.community.dell.com/.../19666150>> which say that it's necessary to have SP1 and Intel RST driver <<downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25165/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver>>. So I've unpacked f6flpy-x64.zip from there to my usb stick, booted up with it and tried to search for the driver during installation. That didn't help because all the drivers listed on that installation step (when you need to chose the partition and able to load and search drivers) are in the list of uncompatible drivers.

So I need to have my eMMC drive appeared in the list somehow. I'm still have working windows 10 so I can provide some more information (AIDA64 for ex.). I've tried to search for "hynix hbg4e driver" or smth like that but that didn't help.

Your help will be very appreciated!

Dood I got a Dell. It has a 4k touchscreen, core i7@3.5, GTX 960, 16 GB RAM, 256 SDD M.2 BOOT Drive,

here is the issue,

Windows does not ID the HDD. It,s the 1TB HDD the Laptop came with. I have a samsung EVO SSD and used Data Migration, It works fine, but when I Log into windows, windows does not see the HDD. My BIOS can see the Drive.

Seperate issue, I can't boot on my first try. It just sits in the dell bios screen. when I push the button to turn it off and push the button to turn on, then it loads windows.

ok they are minor and non-critical issues thank you!!!

Battery wont engage after bios update.

Hi,

I recently updated my Inspiron 17R (7720) to the latest bios however as soon as it completed the process the battery stopped working. When I go into the bios there is the following message:
"Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to the operational temperature". The machine has been left off for many hours now and is very cool to the touch however the battery wont engage and the issue persists between multiple battery packs (I have a backup battery too). As far as I can tell it is the bios that has broken my laptop and I am unable to fix it on my own. I have spent many hours trying to fix the issue at this point, following all of the advice that I can find on these forums. I suspect that either the bios has a bug or the laptop has a faulty sensor.
Is anyone able to help?

Trouble upgrading laptop hard drive

I have an Inspiron 11 3000 2-in-1 (model #3157) that came with a 32GB internal SSD. I am trying to replace it with a 500GB hybrid drive.

I used EaseUS Todo Backup Home to create a clone of the existing drive on the new SSHD, and installed the new drive inside the computer. The computer booted up, but the keyboard and trackpad did not function. After 5-10 minutes of operation, the computer would encounter a fatal error and restart itself.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Hello, dear dell community!

Dell vostro 1220 (intel core 2 duo T6670 / 240gb / 4gb / win7 32-bit)

I decided upgrade my laptop, because it began to die.

My plans: change processor from intel core 2 duo T6670 to intel core 2 extreme QX9300.

The first question: will it work?) sockets identical for two processors, but i dont sure, that the it will work.

-different quantity cores, channels and bit systems.

The second, i will change hdd on ssd, but it the easiest)

The third, increase capacity RAM. Question: if i install processor, i need to change a bit systems, right? According to, i can buy Ram more capacity, for example, 2 lath on 8gb?)

4. How change bit-systems from 32 to 64?

5. Need upgrade BIOs whether?

With best wishes, "hi" from Moscow

Alienware M14X r2, GPU missing after thermal compound repaste

I did a repaste for the CPU and GPU for my M14X R2 with Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut.

After reassembling, I noticed the CPU's temperature is alright but the GPU's is still quite high. I disassemble it again, found out the pads I replaced is a bit too thick thus the GPU has no contact with the heat sink. So I repaste GPU (without cleaning the existed compound) and replace the pads with thinner ones.

Then the nVidia GPU is totally gone from the system. Checked the BIOS, the discrete graphic said NOT DETECTED. I tried to disassemble and reassemble it again, but still it's missing.

So I called the Dell Technical Support in Australia, after 1hr the technician told me he believed the GPU is faulty and I'll need to buy a new one. I asked if I could bring my laptop to carry-in services, he said I can't because it's out of warranty, the only thing I could is to get a on-site service. And then he checked with CO team, and told me they don't have the parts needed right now, and suggest me try local market.

I'm lost. I thought you couldn't replace the GPU in M14X R2 because it's soldering on the motherboard?

Could anyone suggest what I should do or try right now?

XPS 15 refund offered - what's the alternative

$

A while back I wrote about constantly having issues with the XPS 15 I have and Dell has agreed to issue me a refund as the issues have not gone away (even as I was typing the keyboard switched to a different language). There is no other 1TB SSD XPS 15 in their stock, I'm guessing they have stopped making them which makes me think that there was an issue with this type of XPS 15 with these specifications. So, I'll get my money back (all of it including VAT) but then what? The reason why I bought the Dell was so that I would have to buy an Apple. And now for the same price I can get the same laptop with half the hard disk. I've been looking around and have not found a computer with similar specifications for the same price (Portability, display quality, battery life, performance...). But again, this one is so unpredictable, I don't want to be banging my head (or the laptop) against the wall the next time it malfunctions.

What to do? Any suggestions? Any other laptops you would recommend....I fear, it's going to have to be an apple...or another dell.

I recently broke the touch screen on my laptop and am wondering what the cost is to replace it is worth the trouble or rather just buying a new laptop.  Also, what is the difference in sending it in vs. using a local repair shop.  Appreciate your thoughts

Genuine Battery?

I have a new battery for my Dell Latitude E6530 because I had began receiving messages on the screen that the original battery was starting to experience decreased life.  The new battery appears nearly identical, but did not come in a Dell box.  I have been trying to search to see if there is a way to determine if this replacement is indeed an authentic Dell battery, but haven't found anything.  Does anyone know how to verify the authenticity before I install this in my laptop?
