is there a master password that can be used to get pass the bios system password? After replacing a failed hard drive, I cannot get beyond a black screen with "Enter System Password", and I have never entered or used a system password on this laptop. I have also replaced the CMOS battery with a new, fresh CR2032 with no success. HELP!

How to buy a Precision M6800

The Precision M6800 Mobile Workstation is available in Italy since September 12, but after more than two months is not yet customizable with all the options as the previous model M6700.

I urgently need to replace my old DELL laptop: can anyone tell me when all the options will appear on the on-line configurator or where to find the list of components available?

Many thanks.

I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING YOU HAVE. WHENEVER MY INSPERON 15 SLEEPS IT GOES DIRECTLY TO A BLUE SCREEN ERROR BAD_POOL_CALLER. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY HELP FROM DELL OR MICROSOFT (WINDOWS 8.1). I HIT A DEAD END END EVERY TIME ON ALL WEB SITES. LOTS OF COMPLAINTS... NO CUSTOMER HELP. I AM FINALY SICK OF THIS. AFTER A MONTH I HAVE NOT HAD ANY CUSTOMER HELP. ONE DELL WEB SITE SUGESTED DISABLE HYPERTHREADING. CAN'T BE DONE ON THIS COMPUTOR. THIER IS NOT ANY OF THE STEPS THAT EXIST. THERE IS NO SELECTION THE WAY IT WAS EXPLAINED IN THE TECH DELL SECTION. THE INSTRUCTIONS ASK YOU TO GO TO PLACES AND ENTER COMMANDS THAT DO NOT EVEN EXIST.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE TO GET MY MONEY BACK? THIS IS REALLY POOR HELP. FURTHER, HOW CAN YOU JUSTIFY SHIPPING COMPUTERS THAT DON'T FUNCTION? THERE IS ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIER IS NO FIX AVAILABLE FROM DELL. THIS IS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I DON'T HAVE ALL DAY TO SIT ON HOLD AND I AM NOT INTERESTED IN BANGING MY HEAD AGAINST THE WALL WITH POOR AND UNUSEABLE ONLINE HELP. VERY POOR. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET RID OF THIS THING.

PLEASE SEND ME THE INFORMATION TO SEND THIS BACK.

Restoresystem.exe error

Hi

I'm going mad here running round in circles on the website trying to contact tech support. I phoned them but they were rude and unhelpful and immediately wanted to charge me for help despite the fact the laptop is under warranty. Grrr.

I want to restore the pc to factory state but when I run Dell Backup and Recovery Manager the PC reboots and I get the error message

"restoresystem.exe was unable to start correctly (0x000007b)"

I only have the Dell Factory Image from when I bought the pc.

It's a vostro 3750 laptop if that makes any difference.

Please help :)

Thanks

John

Can the laptop handle 2 8GB dimms for a total of 16 instead of how it is sold with 8. The laptop would be viable but the memory is holding it back.

Dell V131 cpu upgrade

Hi,

I have a Dell V131 notebook with a Celeron 847 processor and would like to upgrade to a better processor like i5-2410M.

Is there a way I can do that?

Sorry, I have been trying to find some information on google, but wasn't lucky enough. Smile

I already have the processor, hope I don't have to re-sell it and buy a whole motherboard that has a specific processor soldered in, etc.

Thanks

ADMINISTRATOR is unable to login

I have a  Dell Inspiron which is not letting me logon. At first I thought it was not recognising the password but when I entered it incorrectly, it prompted me saying that it is incorrect and I also managed to enter with this password in safe mode. I removed the password. However the problem is still on. It says user profile is unable to log on and does not go any further than this. With safe mode I cannot do a back up or do a new user profile.

Unstable WiFi In Windows 8

I had an unstable wifi connection after loading Windows 8 onto my new Inspiron 15 7537. This is well documented in many other forums and my symptoms were basically the same.Unfortunately none of the solutions worked. Quite a maddening experience because you are blocked from using the internet. Fortunately this model has a cable connection as well so I was able to continue. But the primary internet access will be wifi so this had tp be fixed.

Fortunately the fix was very simple but it took a lot of trial and error (ie a lot of wasted time), and it did not show up anywhere when Googling.

Access the properties of the wifi adapter (right click on network connection/properties/configure/Advanced tab). Find the property HT Mode and set it to disable - that's it!

Note: I'm not sure if this is a standard property on all adapters. In my case the adapter is Intel Dual band N 7260 and it was trying to connect to a TPLink modem/router.

The symptom was that after making a strong connection to the router, the gateway address would somehow be blocked and then the limited or no internet access message would show. It was also a weird behavior. If I made a clean connection, I could ping the gateway address to my heart's content but as soon as I started IE or Chrome, gateway address was blocked and could not be pinged internet access was no longer possible!!

Anyway it's working well now so I hope this helps someone.

Inspiron N5110 - keypad not working even with new replacement

Inspiron N5110 had multiple problems which includes keypad failure and power button inconsistency.

I replaced the power button sub-assembly and the keypad.  The power button now woks consistently.  However, the new keypad or the old keypad don't work at all.  A Dell USB keyboard connected to the NB works just fine.

What is suggested to "check out" ?

Dell XPS Boot Issues

0

Hi all,

I'm having issues booting up Windows 7 on my XPS and have been searching for a solution for the last few days.  The first thing I've done is to press F12 at startup to run the Diagnostic Test (long version) which I've passed with no issues.

I've tried running Start Up Repair with no luck.  Windows loads the files but it hangs at the "Starting Windows" screen.

Same thing when I run "Last Known Good Configuration", "Enable Boot Logging", "Debugging Mode", and "Disable Automatic Restart."  I get to the "Starting Windows" screen but it hits that wonderful Blue Screen.  I even tried booting in Safe Mode but it hangs at avgidsha.sys and reboots.

I'm not concerned about my data since I have that backed up.  So I even tried booting from my Dell Reinstallation DVD with Windows 7 64 bit.  However every time boot from my DVD, it takes me to "Windows is loading files...", goes on to the "Starting Windows" screen and hangs.  For some reason, I do not get the option of reinstalling Windows.  It's driving me crazy that I can't find a solution.  Any thoughts?

Dell XPS 15 Not Responding After Sleep

0

To Dell online community:

I have a problem with my Dell XPS 15 L501,

It goes to sleep after I put the screen down, and when I lift it back up a half hour or an hour later, nothing works.

I can still click my user icon to go to the desktop, and the mouse cursor still moves, but nothing else works. If I had a tab open in chrome and I tried opening wikipedia or youtube or something it would not load. When I try clicking my documents icon on the taskbar it does not open. The computer's clock still works though. When I click ctrl-alt-del it would not open, and later an error message will appear saying that the task manager will not open. The only way to get the computer operating again would be to force shut it down via the power button and then starting again. The fan was still running, and all the operating lights were still on.

Does anyone have any idea of what is going on and what a possible solution would be?

My laptop is nearly three years old, I have an adequate cooling pad always on which keeps the cpu temperature at below or around 50 degrees celsius on idle or to around 80 degrees celsius on intensive games. I also believe my drivers are up to date. (Dell's website says I do not need to update any drivers.) This problem has first started happening around two months ago, increasing frequency until now where I do not bother to put the laptop to sleep anymore.

I appreciate any help or suggestions! =D

xps l521x slow msata port?

0
0

So other than the obvious wifi and overheating issues with this laptop, I may have another issue and am reaching out to all the xps 15 (l521x) with an msata ssd as their boot os owners.

I purchased an adata xpg sx301 256g msata, its transfer speed should be near the 550MB.
im using it as my os boot location, windows 8 uefi and its runs fine, boot time 4.5s

the issue is, I ran tests and its read speeds are where they should be, however its Sequential write speed is very low compared to where it should be(and all the other write speeds), I emailed adata and they said that it could be a problem with my laptop. Can some of you run crystal mark so I may compare and see if it is indeed a limitation set by the motherboard. (chkdsk comes back without error)

 Dear Elvis,

Thank you for contacting ADATA USA.

The transfer rates vary on the type of data being transferred, also each system configuration will have a different transfer rates.

We recommend using ChkDsk to verify if the drive has any bad sectors which may be causing the slow transfer rates. If the drive does not bad sectors we recommend checking with Dell for troubleshooting, you may have a compatibility issue.

dell inspiron m5030 wont boot, 7 post beeps continuously, no screen, doesn't respond to keyboard after virus attempted to install

0

I got a popup and an attempt to install an exe file when i browsed a site with my virus software on.  It then went to priviledge escalation mode, and at that point I hard powered down the computer.  WHen I attempted to restart, i got the post 7 beep.  Removed the cmos backup battery, replaced, tried again, same beep.  I have the hard drive on an USB harness on my lab server and the partitions show up fine.  Haven't run a virus scan yet.  All of the answers I see for the same problem indicate a failed processor, but would this happen concurrently with an attempt to install a trojan?  Windows 7 btw. no new hardware installed prior to the error.

Dell XPS 15 L502x graphics freezes with charger plugged in

0
0

I am running a GT540M 2GB Graphics Card.

Freezes: When I play games with my laptop plugged in charging it freezes up and I cannot do anything; I have to shut my laptop off by holding the power button.

Runs Fine: However when I play games on the battery it is fine and does not freeze up.

I should also note that I have tried to back date my graphics driver and updating the BIOS, neither have worked.

What could the problem be?

Thanks,

Jonathan
