Using HP P2055d printer with Dell Latitude E5570

Received new laptop but can't get it to connect to old printer. I have limited computer knowledge. Error message says the device can't work properly with USB 3.0.  Is there a cable or something I can get so I can use this printer. Or perhaps some other work around?

New Dell Precision 7510 Lag

$

I am an Art Director and my work just purchased me a new Dell Precision 7510 with the specs below:

- 4K screen

- 32 GB DDR4 RAM

- Xeon E3-1505M

- Nvidia Quadro M2000M

- 512 SSD

My concern is that it seems like the system isn't running smooth. To me it seems like the system is having a hard time running the 4K screen? I'm experiencing a bunch of Windows UI lag and the system just seems glitchy at times. These problems are especially apparent within the Adobe Creative Suite. Are these known problems? Should I RMA?

Thank you!

OTHER DEVICES: VIDEO CONTROLLER PUNT

Recently my OptiPlex 755 with Windows 10 has started acting strangely. From either a fresh boot or return from "hibernate", it begins to boot with all green lights flashing but then stalls to a black screen, but with the green front lights still illuminated. If I hold the power button until it completely shuts down and repress to start, it boots normally. The only error I can find in the Device Manager is a punt in Other Devices for Video Controller with the following description:

Encountered the following problem on my new Inspiron 14 7000 (7437).

Device Manager is showing under Other Devices: PCI Device

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There are no compatible drivers for this device.

PCI bus 1, device 0, function 1

The following values are shown under Details: Property: Hardware IDs:

PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5B72&SUBSYS_0B031002&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5B72&SUBSYS_0B031002
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5B72&CC_038000
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5B72&CC_0380

Under the Event Tab, Information:

Device PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5B72&SUBSYS_0B031002&REV_00\4&df7e780&0&0108 requires further installation.

How do I fix this?

Thanks,

Ken

m3800 not charging if not being shutdown

Hi

I noted a strange behavior with my Dell m3800: if I use it on battery (let it discharge for a while, even for a few hours) and, while still running on battery, I attach the AC, then the battery indicators show fully charged and also the OS reports the fully charged state.

In order to make it effectively charge the battery I have to shut it down, unplug the AC and then plug it again.

Is it a known issue or something to do with the BIOS (which should be updated to the latest version)? Or is it some hidden setting in the BIOS?

thanks in advance

Lorenzo

Touchpad and touchscreen stopped working on dell XPS 13 9360 with ubuntu 16.04. They work on liveUSB

Booting via liveusb they work fine.

Any clues?

Latitude E7470 - Speakers

My external speakers for my E7470 laptop do not output sound unless the green stereo cable is plugged directly into it.  When the audio cable is plugged into the port replicator, it simply won’t output sound... The sound goes through the laptop speakers instead.  The in the Sound settings, the speakers show to be playing but the audio goes through my laptop.  The audio output won’t switch from my laptop port to the port replicator.  Everything was fine before but now it's just not working. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

XPS 13, 9360: Storage Capacity?

$

I'm looking at buying the 9360 model, and I see the purchase options for storage listed as 128 or 256GB PCIe SSD.
My question:  is there room inside for more than one SSD?  I know I would want at a minimum 500GB of storage.  Was thinking of maybe going with the 128GB at purchase, and then adding 500GB in a second slot, assuming I can.

Thank you.

SSD Over Provisioning: Help a Confused Noob

$

This old dinosaur is familiar with and used to working with HDDs.  Of course, that's old school and I see every new laptop comes with an SSD.  Before I buy I'm doing some reading on this and the subject of over-provisioning the SSD seems to be a hot button.  Lots of opinions, facts, fallacies, pros and cons.  So let me throw out a few questions to the braintrust here.  For starters, I'm looking at buying the XPS13, 9360.  I wouldn't want less than 500GBs of storage, so I can either buy the 128GB that is offered with the unit and add a second drive, (if that's possible), or just pull out the OE drive and upgrade to a 500GB or more capacity unit.  With that said. . .

1)  In real world use, (mainly internet, emails, MS Office), will I see any difference OPing vs not?
2)  Do SSDs come from the manufacturer already provisioned?
3)  What percent of the drive should be set aside on, say, a 500GB unit?
4)  Can a drive be provisioned at any time, even after being used and containing data and files, or must it be done on a new drive prior to use?

That's all I can think of for now.  Appreciate any feedback. . .and thanks for dealing with my ignorance on this matter.

L502x Processor Upgrade

I have been working on upgrade my laptop to work with solidworks better and needed a bit of help.

Here are the laptop specs running windows 10

2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor 2.30 GHz

16GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 Memory (upgraded this)

NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525m 1GB graphics

Upgraded to a SSD

What I would like to do is upgrade the two last things which are the graphics card (if even possible) buy getting a new board and the processor.

From what I have researched these processors will work in the same socket as my i5 but which one is better and will there be a big improvement over the i5 that i have??

i7-2860QM
i7-2820QM
i7-2760QM
i7-2720QM
i7-2630QM

from here

en.community.dell.com/.../19476474

Lastly is it possible to upgrade the graphics card to the GT540m 2gb by installing a new motherboard? Will I gain much over the GT525??

thanks!

Inspiron 5558, plugged in not charging

Inspiron 5558, plugged in not charging with orginal dell charger that came with the laptop and 0.48 ghz instead of 2.4. I am 100% sure that the cords are 100% fine. The wierd thing is that it sometimes charges and sometimes it does not. But when is starts charging, it will not stop until I remove charger or battery. I found someone on reddit that had the exact problem with the exact things that happens to him and the exact model. I updated the bios and all other stuff on my pc up to high performance. Sometimes it will charge in 1 hour and sometimes it  automatically charges. Sometimes it take about 2 minutes to start. Once it took up to 5 hours. And Dell of course wants that easy money by not letting people buy cheap good chargers and letting them buy there <profanity> $60 chargers.

Dell Vostro 1510 memory upgrade issues

I used Crucial PC26400-800 2gb & Elpida PC2-6400-666 2gb modules, Vostro 1510, A15 bios

I did the following:

1. Extracted old 1GB RAM from both banks.

2. Inserted new memory to both banks.

3. Turn on computer.

4.  After i rebooted the display was black and Lock leds were blinking. Num Lock fast blinking, Scroll and Caps Lock where solid green.

5. Computer didn't boot up.

6. Tried each new module by itself, tried 1 old module and 1 new module, same result, tried every combination of modules & banks

7. Confirmed with Crucial that the memory module was indeed compatible.  CT2566AC800.M16FM

8. Tried unsuccessfully to contact Dell Tech support to verify the exact parameters for the memory as the Dell Claimed Support of 4GB for this model is in question! [ got the big run around from support ]

9. All Memory works fine in a Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop

"No bootable devices found" - on TWO (count 'em -2!) new XPS 9350s

Just want to know if this has happened with anyone else...

I recently received 2 new XPS 9350s (16gb, 500mb SSD) and installed software on both. As a last step, I went to Dell Support Assist, had it scan the two computers, and installed the recommended 6 driver updates along with the bios update to v1.4.12.

BOTH rebooted to show "No bootable devices found". Lord Almighty!

Have there been ANY reports of something this catastrophic happening to others?

John
